Huge shout out to Cory who might be the hardest working person I know, and Audrey who always makes us feel so welcome. Wish there was an option for a bonus star.

We walked over from the main strip of downtown and loved the vibe as soon as we arrived. Walking down the stairs to get to the brewery versus the glass blowing shop was so cute. With apples on the ground from the apple trees, it couldn't be more "Maine". When walking in, you order at the bar for both food and drink and then there is a booth/trailer out back where the food comes out. The inside is set up for open mic night and then outside they have a full stage where they host live music. There is plenty of seating outside at the picnic tables as well. We ordered a couple beers, the Margherita pizza, the potato chips, and the Carrot Top salad. I cannot tell you howwwwwwwww amazing the salad was!! I have never had a salad like this and I ate every last bite. The roasted carrots were so good, combined with the crispy onions and the dressing; it was heaven. The chips were incredible and the dip that comes with it just elevates it that much more. I believe it was a pickle dip of some sort? I can't remember specifically, just that I needed a vat of it. Then the pizza?! We couldn't finish it but man did we want to! Add all this tasty food to a beautiful backdrop and we were the happiest little foodies in Maine. Hands down best stop in Ellsworth!

My conception of what was happening at Nervous Nellie's came from the jellies and jams sold in local stores and from the view of the backs of the buildings in the middle of Hardscrabble Hill. Visiting Deer Isle with friends, we finally stopped yesterday for the very first time. I have to say, what Peter Beerits has (and is) created (creating) at Nervous Nellie's Jams and Jellies is nothing short of a wonder! Of course there's the food. The jellies, jams, preserves, and chutneys are simply delicious. There is a small cafe and store where you can sample, buy, and sit and enjoy the tasty treats created on site. But the jellies aren't what visiting Nervous Nellies is all about. It's the brilliance, creativity, and passion in the art of Peter Beerits that will really fill your heart and mind and go with you after you leave. There is a tiny world with buildings and sculptures that beckon you in and beg you to participate in the imaginative elements born of a tremendous artist at work. I LOVED seeing and experiencing it all, but particularly loved the old west inspired buildings. There are several key places to visit. Each building you visit is filled with interesting wood-cut inhabitants, antiques furniture, music, and so much more.

I was on a panel about suspense and the influence of Stephen King, and it was fun to have that event in the heart of Derry/Bangor. The theater was attractive, with a nice stage and a spacious seating area. There were some cool chandeliers that looked like crystal jellyfish. I gather that the theater is a town landmark and important cultural institution, putting on a full roster of shows when it isn't hosting one-off literary events. There was a little bar off to one side of the theater, apparently called The Stage Door. I hung out there with friends and new acquaintances before and after the panel. I got to try two cans of local beer, the Orono Tubular Hazy IPA and the Sacred Profane Dark Lager. Both were delicious beers that I never see at home. I had a lovely time at the Penobscot Theatre Company and am glad I got to visit on my first trip to Maine. I'd recommend it for all your Bangor theater needs, as well as any events about the great Stephen King.

Everything from the online tickets to the ease of getting your seat from the ushers. The Theatre itself is a beautiful old space that makes you feel a bit back in time.
