Had an epic time at the Myrtle Street Tavern last night! Bartender Todd was a terrific host: friendly, helpful and efficient. He recommended the seafood chowder which was incredible--so packed with seafood that my spoon could stand on end! At 8 pm a band started playing and the bar started rockin'. Myrtle Street checks all the boxes: - great dive bar (check) - great location (check) - fabulous food (triple check) - outstanding/friendly staff (triple check again) - friendly/welcoming patrons (another check) They're known for their seafood chowder and I've got to say, it's the best I've ever had. But ya also have to try the Buffalo Wild Wings! They're crispy/flavorful and cooked to perfection. Wish we were in town longer as we'd go back for sure!! read more

This is my yearly update (not really, but I did a review last year!) of Myrtle Street Tavern. It is a one of the very best dive bars around. We always frequent the tavern when in town for the Blues Festival - most years it is because it is cooler, this year it was dry (rainy/foggy festival). We kind of come and go while we are in town, which is awesome. Bloody Mary's are great, Wayne, once again, loved the Corona Rita. We had a pretty great lunch, shared a chopped salad that was five star and a tuna melt with onion rings. We usually sit at the bar and Chris was attentive, quick, and once he figured out the Corona Rita he was awesome! Couple of minor disconnects - all of the menus say cash after 6pm, and, understandably that also accrues to during a festival, but maybe note it? And, for some reason they think the patio is "grandfathered" to allow smoking (a couple of servers said that to patrons). I know better... looked up the law. All in all still a great dive bar. read more

The bartenders are very nice. The owner, who sort of just wafts in and out of the bar, is unfriendly. I nursed a very large drink over the span of several hours. when I finished the drink, she cut me off. Didnt ask if I wanted food or any of the things she could have upsold. She came out of the kitchen and asked "is there a problem here?" T here was literally no problem or issue, no ruckus that I created. She then pulled the bartender aside, whispered about me, misgendered me and then made her employee tell me that I could no longer be served. I have blood alcohol strips. I was at above the legal limit to drive (I don't even have a car), but not so innebriated that I couldn't behave, walk, be civil. She's either homophobic/transphobic or a shitty business owner. Regardless, I won't be going back. read more

Officer an a Gentleman meets Perfect Storm. We came here on a Wednesday night during Lobsterfest. Packed with sailors from USS Gunston Hall. Friendly bunch trying to get a drink on and telling their stories. Definitely get the Blueberry lemonade. Highly recommend for Mine Blueberry and nutritional value! It's a good choice. Nice blend and "hole in the wall" portion of vodka. Didn't try the food but the bartenders were fast and friendly stays open late! read more

Tell me not to go somewhere, and I can't get there quick enough! Recently while visiting Rockland I stopped in at a local bar, it was empty, so asked the bartender about other places in town and was told to not go here. Soooo off I went! What were they talking about? Myrtle St. Tavern was busy, awesome outside seating decorated with palm trees, lots of cocktails and local brews on special, and the most friendly, eclectic crowd I have ever seen. While there I asked a few customers where else to go in town, and they said this was the best place, always. Hmmm sounds like there may be a bit of jealousy. And the bartender gave me one of their hilarious stickers with the slogan "Not just for sailors & Whores anymore!" Good people, drinks, and atmosphere. read more

Myrtle is hit or miss. Sometimes you go here and it's really fun, others got and especially on a Saturday night you wish you didn't blow $5 for the cover. I will say for the band. Good or bad, they need to tone the noise level down because you need sign language to talk with someone. For this reason that's why I leave early half the time. It's no fun screaming into someone's ear so they can hear you. And then imagine the struggle of hearing that drunk person slurring their words and trying to make something intelligible out of it. So they used to have a paper sign which was probably written in marker that they had a $26 dollar minimum. Which if anyone knows laws the maximum minimum they can charge is $10. Long story short, those signs no longer exist. I get it there are fees but if you hate them then join a lot of places and just be a cash bar. On the other side it probably loses some business too. I may add the male bartender...can't remember his name... (I suck). Is awesome and the best employee they have there. read more

We came here for a beer after the Lobster Festival. The inside was really divey and there was a girl dancing to "back that ass up" with all the moves. It was about 3pm. No big deal. My Mom said "are you sure you want to go here?" Haha. We went outside to sit. The beers were $3 each! I didn't even know it was happy hour. Awesome pricing for pints. I had the Shipyard Summer and it hit the spot. No options for dark beers on tap. People were friendly including the other patrons. The bartender gave us a basket of Chex Mix for outside which was nice of her. I wouldn't hesitate to stop by again when in Rockland! read more

This place was in walking distance from our boat so we hit it up. This place is CHEAP!!! For 3 of us to drink our faces off, the tab was 45.00! They have a pool tables and a pretty awesome Jukebox. Also they have the Wii there!!!!! Who has that? There was some shmuck there that wouldnt leave me alone and before I knew it the bartender, Courtney had himself between me and the drunk dude. He is a great bartender and really good at what he does. He also makes some mean mozzarella sticks! Im only giving 4 stars though cause metal was played all night, and thats not my thing. Can't believe this dive has ANY positive reviews. Walked in and were greeted by a bouncer and a wall of body odor. One pool table, a bunch of toothless wonders shooting me dirty looks and a 50+ drunk woman singing karaoke. Didn't waste a dime on this joint since we couldn't even make it to the bar through the sea of drunks. As we were leaving the bouncer yelled after us "it gets better"! Yeah...well it couldn't have gotten much worse, that's for sure! read more

Ah yes, the quintessential "band bar". The one where the locals gather, smoke heavily on the porch, and jam into the place so tightly that you can barely breathe or move. On the weekend I visited in March, they had a band "all the way up from Jersey". The band was good, it was insanely loud in the small space, so we didn't stay long. But, there was something to be said about this dive bar. I liked it here and if it wasn't quite so crowded, I would have stayed a bit longer. The drink prices were right ($2-$5 for a beer) and there were comfy bar stools. People were friendly, but not overly so. I would definitely come back again. read more

This was an awesome surprise during a weekend trip to Rockland! Looking for a place to sit outside and enjoy a beer, the Myrtle Street Tavern ended up being that and so much more! There is a small patio when you first walk in, with a handful of tables and a few Adirondack chairs. We were greeted by a few regulars, one cheerfully saying "Welcome to America" as we made our way inside. Once inside, we sat down at the bar and waited for the bartender to finish waiting on another group. We first started with a round of draft beers, they had many of the Maine favorites on tap. While drinking our first round, we started reading some of the signage hung up behind the bar. One definitely drew our attention: PUDDING SHOTS.....wha..wha..what?!?! We inquired with the bartender and she informed us she made them herself and started rattling off the recipe. At $1 a piece, there's really no downside (only upside), so we got some. Today, they were serving a mudslide version. It was super boozy, but super fantastic as well. Served in the plastic condiment cups, it was a bigger portion than I was expected and much tastier too. Once we had our second round of beers, we headed outside and enjoyed the remainder of our time on the patio. Later in the evening, a 90's alternative cover band was going to be performing, but unfortunately we did not stick around for that. read more

This might be my favorite place ever. To go to this bar and enjoy yourself you have to have an appreciation for town locals. We stopped in for a drink on the Friday of lobster fest and ended up staying for hours. It happened to be karaoke night and this town LOVES them some karaoke. It was a blast to hang with the locals and watch the karaoke DJ sing backup for everyone. We also got to see a mini fight which is always entertaining, but staff came quick to shut it down and back to singing it was. Hoping to go back again next year! read more

Where I hang my hat the majority of the time for the past 12 years is two blocks up the street from Myrtle Street. I'm an insatiable traveler - North America, British Isles, New Zealand, and Australia road trips extraordinare! However, rarely have I discovered a gem such as this place. Continually, I feel love and natural camaraderie among complete strangers. Advice: go alone, and on Friday karaoke night, any time of the year! See you there! read more

We went this year after lobster fest and had a nice time. It's a cute little joint with AC, good drinks and friendly people. We watched a drunk couple play pool and spent a few hours listening to everyone's pick of music. The Bahama Mama was $8 which seemed a bit pricey for a premade mixed drink but I get it. Tourists have $$ ;) I would recommend! read more
