Ok. I'm not going to lie. When I first looked at the menu I actually headed next door to Margarita's to eat instead. Boy do I regret that decision! We came back the following night for a REAL treat... First of all, Tony was our server. What an absolute sweetheart!! He had nothing but fantastic recommendations for us. He was definitely not your standard "waiter". He spoke to us like we were regulars, which we appreciated, considering we were from Massachusetts. We ordered three of his suggestions: wings, fish and chips and the spicy margarita. Outside of what was recommended we also got the beer cheese and GIANT soft pretzel, bangers and mash and the creme brûlée. First off- this was my first time trying beer cheese, so I was beyond excited. I hate pretzels, however. Guess what?? They were BOTH SOOO GOOD!! The pretzel was the size of my giant head and was so soft & salty. It really paired well with the creamy beer cheese. I'd come back just for this appetizer every time. The wings too, actually! I was a little hesitant because I read the word "dill" on the menu but they really tasted more like Buffalo wings with a note of dill at the very end. I think I might be in love.... On to the main event! The Smithwick's beer battered fish and chips... WOW. It was a little different than I'm used to (which was a great thing in this case). The batter was thick and crispy (I'm used to thinner) and the haddock was super moist. Very fresh! I order this meal wherever I go and this is definitely in my top 3 (out of probably 50 others). I was hoping I could switch out the chips for fries because, well, I've never had traditional chips before! I must say I was pleasantly impressed though! They were the BEST and completed the dish perfectly. My fiancé had the bangers and mashed. He said it was good and very traditional. I did not indulge, so I can't relay that in my review. Last, we ended the meal with a MUST try....the creme brûlée. LEAVE ROOM FOR THIS DESSERT! The top was a hard sugar coating while the rest was truly a creamy dream. Their Bangers & Mash entree was better than expected. And with about 30 different drafts to choose from other than a Guinness, ya can't go wrong at Finn's. The kitchen closes around 8:50pm during the week so keep that in mind. We found out too late in the evening that their jumbo pretzel was sold out. While it's tough to navigate through most every restaurant in the Trenton/Ellsworth/Bar Harbor area without the blitz of seeing t-shirts and beanies for sale, Finn's has their their own Challenge Coin for sale ($8), which was a nice find. read more

This place is quite good. It is mostly geared towards meat eaters, but it actually has a few fish entrees, although there's nothing vegetarian in the Entrees section of the menu. They try to make up for that by having a variety of mac and cheese, but although the base mac and cheese is good, all but one of the interesting variations are meat-based. The only vegetarian mac and cheese variation is the "Classic Tomato Mac" which I found rather disappointing. The tomatoes were not particularly good, kind of watery and bland. I would raise this rating to 5 stars in a heartbeat if they add a couple more interesting vegetarian mac and cheese variations. It would be so easy. What about a caramelized onion and mushroom mac and cheese? A jalapeno popper mac and cheese? Or make that tomato one more interesting by adding some basil pesto or switching the tomato slices for a sundried tomato pesto? So many possibilities! read more

Nice lunch atmosphere. I had a nice Scotch Egg with a beer n water (sidecar shot of Jameson). I was offered the special which was a nice homemade Mac n' cheese with chilli. I opted for the two grilled hotdogs dressed with kraut, chilli and yellow mustard alongside a bowl of the Mac and a pickle spear. Shannon took great care of me! Drinks filled, no waiting for service. Went in today on a whim, hoping to get some authentic Irish grub. My companion had shepherds pie. It had potential, but really failed. If the kitchen had used any seasoning on the ground beef, perhaps it would have been good. The bread was B&M and not buttered when toasted. I had the bangers and beans. The sausage was mild. The beans were meh. Sauerkraut was tasty as were the veggies--they were seasoned and delicious. Our waitress was frazzled, but nice. She made nice conversation. The bar itself was tired and old looking, with lots of steps up and down. Luckily they were only in the entrance, otherwise I would have had a problem navigating. I have been to Finn's many times over the past 10 years and the new owners have done a wonderful job keeping the friendly atmosphere, good beers and comfortable setting. We were greeted quickly and were seated in the bar area as we requested. Service was good at first and then got kind of spotty. The food has always been just OK but at this last visit my blackened fish sandwich didn't make the grade. The fish was fine but the Cajun seasoning was dumped (like a full tablespoon) on top of the already cooked fish. I am not sure the cook understood how a blackened fish sandwich is prepared. Great service and great food! Older reviews said to get the Reuben Sandwich and I picked potato salad as the side dish. Sandwich was perfect and filling as I took home half after have some of their Irish Nachos. Potato salad needed some S&P but that was easily remedied. Do not recommend due to the entitled and very rude manager. I placed an online order via Toast which I was directed to through the restaurant's website. I got an email about 5 minutes later, that the order wasn't confirmed and that I should call the restaurant to confirm. Which I did, talking to the supposed manager. When I told her that the order needs to be confirmed by the restaurant, she said there is no online order in their queue and then she kept saying, that if it didn't go through, there is nothing she can do about it and that I should call Toast to get my money back. That sounded very strange, considering that the restaurant is the one contracted with Toast. She ended up telling me, that they are super busy and "she doesn't have time for this". I was flabbergasted to say the least. Customer service at its best! When I voiced my surprise at this comment, she proceeded to lecture me on how we do and don't talk "here". Mind you all I did was I said "are you serious?" in a slightly raised voice. She later proceeded to hang up the phone on me, twice. Toast confirmed, that it is the restaurant's responsibility to call them if an order doesn't go through. So here I am, spending time on calling Toast, calling the restaurant and being talked to in a very demeaning way, being told that my order doesn't worry them since they are busy, not to mention it is now my problem as to how to get back my money, yet again having to spend time on disputing charges. And still no dinner. I sent this feedback to the restaurant's email address, but never got an answer. Not surprising to be honest. I got a text from Toast that my order was ready, almost an hour later from placing the order. My brother enjoyed his shepherd's pie which arrived in a crock bowl that was filled to the top with a brown gravy. Strange, but he enjoyed it. The beer selection was pretty good...i got a black and blue which was satisfactory...it did say a 20oz but im pretty sure it was 16 oz. Very happy with how fast the food came out. The jumbo pretzel and beer cheese was a good app choice. The nachos weren't my favorite. They made an effort to spruce up the mac and cheese but it def needed some salt. Took us a while to find the hostess stand located at the back of the restaurant if you come in on main street. We met up with some family for a pre-Christmas get together lunch. We had a wonderful meal. Hubby had the meatloaf sandwich which was two slices of meat in a sub roll with mushrooms and onions and gravy. He got the mashed potatoes as a side, since he can never resist a serving of mashed potato! I got the meatloaf dinner which was two slices of meatloaf with gravy and two sides. I chose Brussels sprouts and the house made chips. Everything was done perfectly. Crispy things were crispy and the meatloaf was delicious and hit the comfort food spot! Service was good at first; friends and I were super excited to be in town and meet up for a couple drinks. Bartender was very suspicious of us for no reason (other than we appeared young(we are all 21 and 22)) and after we ordered our drinks, she proceeded to kick us out the restaurant. We had entirely valid federal identification and proof of age, but she continued to ask us to leave. While I understand people being suspicious of underage drinking and the fact that they have the right to deny service, but there was no reason for this. I may only be 5' tall, but I am very disappointed to be asked to leave after being in there for less than 5 minutes--especially when coming from across the country to visit a friend. Finn's has been a staple in the Ellsworth area and for good reason - it's always great. You never have to worry about a bad meal here, you can tell they really care about the quality of their food. Definitely get the Irish nachos for an appetizer, they are so good! For entrees: the Meatloaf sandwich, Reuben, Boiled dinner, Shepherd's pie or Finn's famous mac and cheese are all 5 stars. The Salt and Pepper Haddock was wonderful and my wife liked the fish and chips but would have preferred fries to homemade chips. I also had a rare treat: steamed beets! They were delicious. After ready reviews I should have realized they were old . Thought by how crowded the place was it may be still try. After being seated it took 1 of the 3 girls to finally Greet us .
