I had the pleasure of…read moreusing Louisiana Voice & Swallow Solutions to provide mobile FEES services for two of my home health patients. The results of the formal swallow diagnostic allowed the patient, family, Dr & myself know what was safe for the patient & if the patient needed further speech therapy services. For one patient, the results determined that the patient was able to return to eating & drinking & not need the feeding tube any more. For the other patient, who had just been hospitalized for suspected aspiration pneumonia; but they did not get a swallow assessment in the hospital, the FEES results showed the patient was aspirating on thin liquids & needed to be placed on nectar thick liquids to decrease the risk of aspiration Pneumonia. Having the FEES service in the home of each patient allowed for comfort and relaxation for each patient because it was in their own home which is a familiar environment & it was less stress for the family because it didn't required the families to find transportation to get the patient to a facility to have a test done. Due to Covid concerns at that time, having the test done in the home also decreased the risk of exposure to other illnesses. Nicole was able to view each patient consuming a meal which allowed for a more thorough assessment of their swallow function. She came out within 24/48 hours of receiving the Dr's order & had the report submitted shortly after completing the FEES to both her Dr & myself. The patients, families, Dr & myself have been happy with the services provided by Louisiana Voice & Swallow Solutions & I would recommend using Nicole for any Swallowing or Voice assessments.

We kept running into insurance not wanting to cover her therapy. So in the meantime, I was buying books and learning everything I could about SM. Then the world shut down due to Covid-19. Thankfully, I kept searching for someone to help us and we were blessed to find Ms. Jen! Most of our therapy with Ms. Jen was done through tele-therapy (zoom). I remember during our first zoom call, that I felt a sense of relief, because what I had learned about SM, Ms. Jen was putting into action. It was a slow process, and took lots of parental involvement but we are making great strides! Ms. Jen was one of the few adults to be able to have conversations with my daughter. My daughter actually does better now without me being present and she also receives help with her articulation delays. She has shown great progress with being able to talk with peers. Ms. Jen helps us to plan exposures and she would do fade-ins with other therapist when she would go in person. We still have work to do, but she will talk to kids she meets on the playground. A striking difference to how much SM affected her during her younger years. My two younger daughters have also received help from Ms. Jen. My youngest at 15 months was showing signs of delayed speech. At her 18 month check up, she wasn't making much progress, so we got her in with Ms. Jen. All was done though tele-therapy, except for the initial evaluation. She made great progress, that we ended up stopping her therapy within a few months. My 3 year old started showing signs of SM at 2 years old. Ms. Jen evaluated her and we got the official diagnosis. All of her sessions have been through zoom. She enjoys therapy with Ms. Jen and would beg to call her on the computer on days we wouldn't have therapy. So that says a lot! We are still working on overcoming SM for both of my daughters, but we grateful we are getting the help they deserve! Julie Cameron

The facility itself is set up so nicely. The therapy areas are so inviting! It truly looks welcoming to enter. While we only work with Terri, we have had sessions where we are in common areas with other therapists and clients and I have always thought they all do such great jobs. I expect better of a facility that deals with vulnerable children. I will add that all of your therapists wear masks. So why aren't the people who deal with taking appointments (Aubrey) and payments at the front desk wearing them? Seems to me it's just as important (if not more so) to ensure that the parents and guardians of your young clients be protected, too.
