We kept running into insurance not wanting to cover her therapy. So in the meantime, I was buying books and learning everything I could about SM. Then the world shut down due to Covid-19. Thankfully, I kept searching for someone to help us and we were blessed to find Ms. Jen! Most of our therapy with Ms. Jen was done through tele-therapy (zoom). I remember during our first zoom call, that I felt a sense of relief, because what I had learned about SM, Ms. Jen was putting into action. It was a slow process, and took lots of parental involvement but we are making great strides! Ms. Jen was one of the few adults to be able to have conversations with my daughter. My daughter actually does better now without me being present and she also receives help with her articulation delays. She has shown great progress with being able to talk with peers. Ms. Jen helps us to plan exposures and she would do fade-ins with other therapist when she would go in person. We still have work to do, but she will talk to kids she meets on the playground. A striking difference to how much SM affected her during her younger years. My two younger daughters have also received help from Ms. Jen. My youngest at 15 months was showing signs of delayed speech. At her 18 month check up, she wasn't making much progress, so we got her in with Ms. Jen. All was done though tele-therapy, except for the initial evaluation. She made great progress, that we ended up stopping her therapy within a few months. My 3 year old started showing signs of SM at 2 years old. Ms. Jen evaluated her and we got the official diagnosis. All of her sessions have been through zoom. She enjoys therapy with Ms. Jen and would beg to call her on the computer on days we wouldn't have therapy. So that says a lot! While receiving "services" for my children at the facility my wife and I who are both privately insured were billed as if we had not met our deductible for the year, in which we had. They only charged my insurance and billed us for the rest while not communicating so, all the while receiving the bare minimum of rendered services. We decided to seek a more professional environment that tended to the needs of our children. When I advised them they were leaving we were ostracized by the ownership about the bill. I had a conversation with the ownership and her failure to properly train her staff in the insurance billing procedure and she insisted I didn't know what I was talking about all the while being an insurance adjuster (Go figure). There was a form that needed to be submitted on their behalf and was not done so and then she tells me I don't know what I am talking about. She then threatened me with sending the balance that they ran up to an attorney. Please do not use their services because even being double insured you will still get a bill after your deductible.

So why aren't the people who deal with taking appointments (Aubrey) and payments at the front desk wearing them? Seems to me it's just as important (if not more so) to ensure that the parents and guardians of your young clients be protected, too.

Humble Periacetabular Osteotomy surgeon…read more Dr. John R. Faust diagnosed me with hip dysplasia at age 46. He took over an hour explaining every detail of the Periacetabular Osteotomy (PAO) (fellowship trained with Dr. Tim Schrader, Atlanta) surgery. Dr. Faust offered several options in his expert opinion and was transparent about the pros and cons of surgery. Even though I left his office in tears, I knew could trust Dr. Faust and his team for my bilateral PAOs. I returned to running a quarter marathon, a tough mudder in Europe and a triathlon without hip pain. I am grateful Dr. Faust is able to provide this specialty surgery in Louisiana. I have no regrets. I am thankful everyday for my healthy hips.
