We were at the Food Truck Festival in Passaic NJ and Empanada Guy was there. We recognize it on Beat Boby Flay and it looked so good on TV so when we saw it at the festival we were so surprised. Now we had so much food already from the Festival so we only share one to get a taste. They had a whole list of empandas on the menu but we decided to ordered their beef empanada. WARNING: So I don't normally ever do this because I absolutely love to support businesses and help them grow However, I have to share my experience with The empanada guy food truck. So back in the beginning of June I messaged them to see if they were available for my daughters engagement/shower in late September. They replied via email saying yes they were available, and all I had to do was pick my choices and they would send me a contract. that is exactly what I did however, I never heard back from them. I never received a contract after numerous emails and phone calls to the corporate office and to my contact person, John Black. The fact that they never even responded to anything that I sent or called them was terrible, after about my 15th phone call and email to them. I received an email today saying that they are sorry they could not accommodate me as they were booked. I am now left a month from my daughters wedding shower, scrambling to find another food truck. they have the worst customer service and response time. I don't care if they're empanadas or not do not book them and go find somewhere else. Such bad service I don't know how they are still in business just an FYI stay clear away. read more

This truck came to my job during lunch. The choices were pretty limited and pricey. $4 for one empanada! I purchased the 2 for $8 and got one beef and one chicken. The dough was chewy and the filling tasted like something from a can. I wouldn't buy again. read more

My favorite food truck in Jersey other than the Rutgers food truck, which has now closed down and makes me really sad. Hey, but at least I still have the Empanada Man! he accepts credit cards now too which is great because I can buy all the yummy empanadas...my favorite is beef then chicken...but my newest favorite is the chorizo empanadas, so much flavor and the juices just flows out in every Crispy bite. If you look closely, the empanadas have a nice little "EM" Initial for Empanada Man of course, stamped on top of the empanada. nice little touch. Anyways, they sell other things on the menu like yelper Bill said here. But the empanadas is what you go here for. For 3 dollars an empanadas, you can't go wrong! I recently stopped by and saw lobster empanadas as well, it's 6 dollars instead of the usual 3 dollars for the other meats but I'm sure it's just as good. have not tried them yet. read more

Excellent Cubano. This is the best Cubano I've had north of Key West. The bread is a toasted, yet soft, long baguette roll. Delicious melted cheese, ham, roasted pork. The pork was almost falling apart, the sandwich was very well balanced. I could have used another pickle or two in there, but I am absolutely nit picking. I tried The Empanada Guy Truck in Philly at the Taste of 3 Cities Food Truck Festival & Competition (I don't actually know where they are usually located. There was a lot of good food there, but these guys got my vote for best food. We need one of these in Philly on a regular basis. read more

We went to visit the truck one cold night. The sign says it closes at 7pm, I think we were there around 6:30pm. There were a few people waiting already! Basically, you order and wait for your food to be cooked in the fryer. The empanadas need a little TLC once you order them. It takes around 5-10 minutes to cook. The server (I believe Empanada Man himself) was VERY busy on his blue-tooth phone talking to someone about ordering tickets of some sort, so he forgot to put in one our empanadas. He realized the mix up after the first one was done cooking. Thus, Empanada Man put in the new empanada in the fryer...but by this time, standing out in the cold was not amusing. He did throw in a free veggie empanada, but it was from the warmer, and was a bit soggy. The fresh empanadas, chorizo and beef, were nice and crispy on the outside. They are $3 each and pretty big. I would say for lunch I would be perfectly fine with just eating two total. A-OK food, meh service. read more

These empanadas are just ok, trust me I am an empanada expert and I am always on the hunt for a great empanada, I tried 6 different combinations of empanadas from the empanada guy truck and they were all pretty much tasteless. However I am giving 3 stars because of the variety they have to choose from and because there arent too many empanada places around, some other places nearby have horrible empanadas. I love the Empanada Guy truck! Had my first experience in Hoboken at the Pier, and I was so happy to see he was in Old Bridge as well. $3 for a delicious empanada. I usually stick with the Mexican Chorizo - so good! The boyfriend had beef, which he liked, and I had a cheese this past visit, which was also good, but Chorizo is definitely the best. They also have chicken, beef, cheese, apple and I think one more, or you can go big for $6 and get one with crab or lobster. He also has side dishes - fried yuca, sweet plantains, yuca in mojo, and some others. The latter was not my favorite, but those empanadas definitely make up for it. Picked up a quick bite to eat at the truck on Old Bridge Turnpike and was pleasantly surprised. My sister and I wanted something quick, but an alternative to McDonald's or Wendy's. We ordered 3 beef empanadas, 1 cheese empanada, and 2 churros. I underestimated the size of the empanadas, and we were both stuffed by our second one -- that didn't stop us from enjoying our churros! The beef was well seasoned, and all were fried upon ordering. It's nice to know they don't just give you stale ones, or pop them in the microwave. We found the Empanada Guy at Laurita Winery's Food Trucks and Fire Pits event. Last year we had the beef and chicken, which were delicious, but we were dying to try the lobster and crab empanadas. And...we were definitely expecting the lobster empanada to be insanely good, and it was good, but the crab empanadas will blow your mind! The combination of bell peppers, onion, cilantro, herbs, and chunks of lump crab are enough to redefine what you thought you knew about empanadas. The crust is flakey and the filling to crust ratio is spot on. If The Empanada Guy was located in New York, I would definitely consider ordering a case for our next party. I like going to their location in Brick since it's close to where I work. I'm all about their Cuban sandwich and their fried potato ball actually. I'm very grateful that there's something like this in the area. It's a great change of pace from the usual lunch and dinner fare at times. The first time I saw this truck, it was at the food truck festival at the Monmouth Racetrack. Unfortunately then, we were unable to try it due to the outrageously long line. So to our surprise, we spotted it on our way to a doctors appointment in Matawan! We said, if it's still here when we go home, we definitely have to try it out. Luckily, it was still there and we tried $18 worth of empanadas. We ordered 2 beef, 2 chicken, and 2 pulled pork. We both loved the beef the best. The chicken I felt could have had more flavor and the pulled pork was very dry. We would definitely go back for more beef though. I'm drooling just thinking about it. These empanadas are legit and they are great snacks while you're driving. The chicken ones have great seasoning to it. I would definitely recommend that one. The beef one's were a little too "mushy" for me (but I still would eat the crap out of it). I was also not fond of the ham and cheese one. It was too salty for my taste. These empanadas are terrible. You can tell the dough is store bought and tastes like it. The beef and chicken both have no flavor whatsoever. I have gone back a few times because I thought maybe I just got one bad one, but that was not the case. The empanadas were oily and tasted old and way over priced for the quality (or lack of). Went the other day just to compare to another food truck in the area. It was terrible. My sister and I ordered 1 chicken empanada and 1 chorizo empanada. Had to try these since i make my own. After waiting online for 15 mins, I placed my order for a beef & chicken empanada. I had to wait another 10 minutes fir my order. When I finally got them, I was disappointed. Both had no taste! The chicken had reminded me of a flavorless pot pie minus the chicken & veggies. I took a bite & passed it. Onto the beef; again' no taste but what disturbed me most was the texture of the meat. It was so ground up it was almost a paste. Again, passed them. I dont see the hype. Great empanadas! Had to call to confirm directions as my navigation for their address took me to a house. It would be very helpful if on their website they put the name of the establishment that they park in. Either way, we got there and ordered. Even tho the empanadas are in a heated glass enclosure they taste and crunch surprisingly fresh and just out of the fryer. Their menu was small, but most that go are here for the empanadas. Most are $3 with crab or lobster being $6. Rice and beans for $5. I would have liked to see a combo with maybe 2 or 3 empanadas and a side of rice and beans, I don't see me eating a whole order of rice and beans so a smaller side would have been nice. Just heavenly. I had my first go at the Empanada Guy at the Jersey Shore Foodtruck festival and I fell in love. The next week a friend and I stopped at his truck on 516. We both had the beef empanadas and the guava and cheese Empanadas. The beef was slightly spicy and well seasoned. The filling was moist and plentiful. The guava and cheese was really good too. The cheese was just a touch too salty. I think they would be better with a creamier cheese like cream cheese. It was still pretty awesome. Saw Empanda Truck parked on Cranbury Rd and gave it a try. Ordered Beef, Lobster, and Vege. Could not detect much lobster for $6. The Vege just ok more like vege mash. However Beef was totally Best by Far perfect spice and flavor. Get the Beef if not a vegetarian. read more

I have to agree with a number of the reviews. I felt that the empanadas were Doughy and the filling was pasty. I literally hated them so much I chucked it in the garbage and had to rinse my mouth from the aftertaste. Sorry but my wife and salsa Latina in Old bridge make way better empanadas. read more

I didn't eat at this specific truck but I had the pleasure of eating at another during this small festival. I tried the beef and lobster empanadas. The empanadas are cooked quite nice with just the right amount of excess dough where the empanadas are pinched shut. The beef blend was really delicious. Very tasty and hearty. Not a dry space inside either, filling is absolutely packed full which is a huge plus. The lobster roll was out of this world! It tasted like I was eating one of the best bowls of lobster bisque soup I've had! I would get this again and again. REAL LOBSTER too! I would absolutely return and suggest these trucks to anyone! read more
