Found this little hiding gem by accident. But I'm glad I did. There's not many Indian Restaurants in my neighborhood, So I was happy when I stumbled across this place. It's a carry out style which is okay grab my food and go. The customer service was amazing the cashier explained everything and the degree of spice they offer for each dish. I ordered the Indian pepper wings and butter chicken both medium spiced and some garlic naan and a mango lassi. The food was flavorful and delicious and was a hit with the family. My husband went back the next day the food was so good. I will come back to try other things on the menu soon. But if your looking for something different come try this place out. read more

DO YOURSELF A FAVOR and skip the fast food and give your taste buds what the deserve. First of all, I love Indian food but I usually have to travel farrrrrr out to get quality. I've tried several Indian restaurants in DC and it seemed like it was missing something. I could have cried *literally* tasting this food and getting the authenticity that I've had to travel 40 miles for. And it's in my BACK YARD! So the details .. this is not a sit down restaurant. Take out only. So either enjoy your food in the car, or visit a park nearby and enjoy if you're traveling here. The inside was clean and the automatics from the cooking were to die for. We ordered two types of wings, butter chicken, chicken tiki masala, roti and two types of naan (one recommended by the cashier). The cashier was sweet. We ordered in person and waited. The wait was approximately 20 mins. I wasn't upset, I know quality takes time and I didn't want to rush. The only thing I will say is, I wish I would have tasted my naan in the car while it was piping hot. Everything else was IMPECCABLE. I've traveled around the world for spices and flavors and let me tell you something, I could kiss the cook! THEY GOT IT RIGHT! Flavor, seasoning, savory balance, fresh herbs.... However, when I placed the order, they suddenly decided that they were too busy to fulfill it (even though I placed the order a week ahead of when they had asked me to place it!). We called ahead our order and the food was not ready after the 20 minutes they said it would but I can guarantee you the food was still fresh. We ordered cheese naan which is just cheese stuffed inside the bread and I must say it's OK. We were just giving regular naan and they made fresh cheese naan for us. We've been dying to have an Indian restaurant in this area so I am so glad they are here. We had a tikka masala with chicken, the Saag no protein and tandoori chicken. Pickup only spot with really good and tasty food. Indian food is more than butter chicken. Loved that they had Kerala menu items. Beef dishes are impossible to find at most Indian places and they were so good here. I will make the drive from DC to support this small business. read more

Found this restaurant on Uber Eats and decided to give it a try and I'm so glad I did. The Chicken Tikka Masala and the Sag Curry with Paneer was so flavorful, I couldn't stop eating it. The Semiya Payasam was so good as well! Definitely will be a returning customer! read more

This here is the Shrimp Biryani you can get it mild or spicy and it comes with nuts, but i have a nut allergy so they can do it without nuts as well. Their wings is good as well. The food is good and while I had minimal interaction with the restaurant (ordered online and my order was ready to go as soon as I walked in), the service was also good. The Essence serves up amazing food, even without the dine-in experience. There's no indoor dining--just a small window to place orders, so there's no real ambience to speak of. That said, the woman at the window was kind and welcoming, which made a great impression. I ordered the Channa curry (I think that's what it's called) and the butter chicken--both were absolutely delicious, full of flavor and clearly made with care. I've been trying to find a decent - let alone good - Indian restaurant for years. As anyone living in PG County knows, it's about impossible to find anything around that's not fast food. Today, I just didn't want to go over the bridge to Alexandria. I wanted something quick AND good. Price was not as much of a concern, but if I could get something fairly priced, all the better. Look no further. No, you can't eat here. It's just take out. Yes, the parking situation is dastardly. It's free, but lawd is it cramped. Bring the small car, k? But the people running the restaurant are lovely. The food is quality. The portions are on point. The flavors are really good - well, except for the onion kulcha. That was average at best. But the rest of the food was really good. We ordered A LOT: spinach saag, chana masala, 2 orders of samosas, pakoras, salmon curry, mango wings, manchuri wings and one other (not tandoori, but can't remember name) and 2 orders of onion kulcha. And ALL of THAT came to $99, with tax. You read that right. That's a really good price for really good food from really nice people. So happy the place exists. We'll be regulars now. read more

I was at this location today and saw this restaurant with a lot of tasty looking foodie pics on their exterior window. So I go in and am very surprised that it's a walk up window to place your order. Like a fast food but walk up, but it's actually not fast food. It's prepared while you wait in the foyer area. The lady that waited on me was very nice and friendly. I told her I wanted the chicken sandwich and pointed to the picture on the wall. At first she said they didn't have it but she went to the back and verified. Then she came back and said they do have the chicken burger. I was then confused. I don't want a chicken burger. I said I want this and pointed to what looked like a fried piece of chicken on a brioche bun. She said yes, that's what we have. I believe she was Indian and that's why there was a communication gap. But I ordered it and a piece of chocolate cake. The prices were reasonable and the food was good. It was a typical fried chicken sandwich with lettuce and tomatoes condiments and cheese. The portion size was normal and the food was flavorful. She asked if I wanted it hot, medium or mild. I chose medium but I detected no spiciness. Maybe I should have gone for hot instead. I was pleasantly surprised by the food because I thought perhaps it would have a very Indian flavors rather than what I'm used to. However it was very typical and was not anything different or unusual. I would definitely recommend this place for a reasonable priced meal and good tasting food. The best Curry Chicken, Samosas, garlic naan, Tandoori, Smoothies ( ETC ) JUST WOW! And, there's 5 different curries to choose also choose the level of heat. WHAT!!!! GIVE IT TO ME! I like it hot! Everything was delicious!!!! And, Please note this is without cross country travel. Try it out for yourself!! Trust! The route is to call your order in it takes around 15 min for your order.
