Went in because it had been a long time since I had been in any Exchange location. Friendly staff along with a positive atmosphere. However, the selections they have in the store is a bit of a lackluster, which is unfortunate because I usually find that this place has things that I would personally look for when I could just easily get them off Amazon for a better price. read more

This new incarnation of Dormont's Exchange franchise sits in the Dormont Village Plaza, occupying a much more spacious storefront than it did previously. The shop itself is amply staffed with enthusiastic, chatty, geeky young people who are eager to help you find anything from action figures to vinyl records. To mark our 3rd anniversary together over the weekend, Kay treated me to the latest Deep Purple and Cult CD's, the entire Lord The Rings Trilogy (all used, and a steal at just $12 for the whole set), and herself to Final Fantasy XIII (she even fielded advice on the series to a younger employee). I always feel quite cozy in these stores, and if I were in my low 20's again, I'd likely be working at one. read more

I used to like this place, but ever since they have become so inflexible about rushing to take your CD to the front counter ---- ASAP --- so you won't steal it.... and they stand right there two inches from you as you look at a CD, I mean, I am a 50 year-old adult, I am not looking to steal it like a teenager might, PULLLEEEEAASSE. Oh, and the biggest gripe I have, the manager, a 20 something chick with hipster glasses and blonde hair, she is just uptight and rude. Not a pleasant experience at all. Look up anything in the store online and it will be much cheaper. Most overpriced store in existence. The workers hover around you and won't leave you alone. The company is run by hipsters and it shows. All the employees are hipsters, and the prices are outrageous because they think because it's "retro" it's worth more. It didn't used to be like this. I remember going and getting older retro games for like $1-$2 a piece and the most popular retro games cost no more than $20. Now....FORGET IT. The cheapest, worst games they have are $5 and the aforementioned popular games are now like $50! Used Blu-ray movies cost the same as brand new ones, it's laughable. Every time I have had an issue with an item they have given me a hasstle when returning the item also. I didn't even touch on the trade in prices. Oh boy....worse than Gamestop. In short to sum all this up, they are a total ripoff and will no longer give them my business. If you want to pay outrageous prices and support this BS go right ahead. read more

I love this store! The staff is so friendly and on point that it makes every trip a great experience. I've gone into GameStops and Cash and Culture shops where the staff ignores you, plays on their phones, and sits quickly behind the counter. But I think because it's a smaller chain, the staff and management really care and constantly look to attend to your needs. The selection amount is also quite impressive. I have an extensive music taste and used to pay way more at other stores and iTunes, but I have saved so much since I have started shopping here. I also really love the new location and store. I love this place. The employees are always very welcoming and helpful. 9/10 they have what you are looking for. If they do not have it, they will order a transfer or look in stock. They are so inexpensive on their used CDs, DVDs, vinyl and even some play systems and accessories, there is no reason to ever buy new. Just be patient and wait a bit and then check this place out for what you want, it may surprise you. They also have new system accessories as well. They also offer buying CDs, DVDs, vinyls, and play systems off you, just as long as they are in good condition. The place can be confusing and overwhelming, because they have so much, but asking for help is easy and they always find what I'm looking for in a snap. I love Dormont exchange:) read more

Pretty good all around place to get retro games. Yes they are a little pricey, but its worth it if i don't want to wait a week+ on ebay sellers...the staff do kind of hover about you while you browse, but i get the feeling its more to try and be helpful if you have a question than anything. Not bad, i think 4/5 stars is still deserved. read more

I'm glad this one reopened in a larger location with off-street parking. The staff is nicely geeky and helpful. I picked up used copies of Finaly Fantasy XIII and the whole Lord of the Rings trilogy here for peanuts last weekend and got Darren some anniversary gifts. The new location is fantastic, the parking lot sits right next to other convenient shops. Waiting for a pizza at little caesar's? check out the exchange. Are your kids getting a haircut? check out the exchange. There is so much to look at that you can honestly never get bored with a great selection of movies, games, cd's, comics, posters, action figures, collectables, and more. The meters stop charging at 4 and are also free saturday and sunday. I always love going in to see what stuff they have anytime i drive by. As for the staff, they are beyond friendly and helpful. Any question I ask, they try to answer as quickly as possible. There is always one staff member who knows the answer to a question I'm asking. They also will always try to get the best deals for you, and find the least expensive copies of products. They even will tell you about deals going on for video games that arent associated with their store, such as free games on Xbox Live or Playstation Network. I love to hear from a place that isnt trying to always get you the best bargains. If they dont have a product at their location, theyll usually be able to get it delivered from another location in about a weeks time. Then theyll call me or send me an email when my shipment arrives. Ive done a few trades there and from what I can tell, they try giving you a very fair and honest amount. They dont give flat rate amounts like Gamestop and other companies, and actually judge the value of the piece. Its nice to know that theyre trying to give me as much as they can. I love this place and Im glad to have it so close to home, give them a try if youre looking for a cozy and relaxing store to shop at. read more

The staff and especially the manager with the pink hair, whose name I did not get, are so so helpful. I was looking for fun, not well known action movies for my boyfriend. She took the time to help me when it was very chaotic. I ended buying 5 movies thanks to the wonderful customer service. I will certainly be back. read more

Can't say enough about the Dormont Exchange, or the entire chain, for that matter. The staff always greets you (even an old guy like me) when you come in the door. It is a great place to browse for CD's, DVD's, action figures, and even vinyl, and the selection changes with every visit. If they don't have what your looking for, they will search their other stores' inventory and have it shipped over. Never will I pay full price for a new CD or DVD again. Nice selection and helpful staff. My only criticism is that they won't take orders over the phone to bring a selection to their store from one of their other stores. You have to order it in person, which requires two trips, one to order and one to pick up. If they're concerned about someone ordering and not purchasing, then require a credit card number. read more

Seemed to have a large inventory. However, everything is locked up and they gladly open the case for you and then hover over you the entire time. I asked if there was a reason that they were hovering over me and they said it is store policy. I am over 50 years old and left immediately after being highly insulted that I was being treated like a thief. read more
