There is a charming little gift shop that recently opened in Crafton. Called "Blue Snail" gift shop…read moreafter a place in France that is known for snails and "blue" because the owner has sons this shop specializes in all US made and quality imported products. I got to interview the owner Jennifer who explained to me that pretty much everything is ordered from a wholesale company and she orders products that are well made. There's much to look at here. From baby gifts, children's and party gifts, pet gifts, scarves made in the UK, bracelets, necklaces in a bottle, cocktail gifts, soaps, bubble bath, candles, greeting cards, prints, soaps, you can practically find most anything you want here. With your purchase, gift wrapping is free. Jennifer is even offering homemade cookies as part of her opening week kickoff. She hopes to expand her business as she gets new ideas but it's a great spot to get something for any occasion or if you wish to indulge yourself. After much deciding I purchased an embroidered bat tea towel and a soap sponge holder to catch my soap bar drippings. The gift shop makes a welcome addition to the Crafton area and is located on E Crafton Ave near Sisters floral and Dancetime studios. Free time limited street parking is available.

From the prints around the edges of the shop to the selection of special books and items from other local merchants, there is something for everyone! I love this shop and will go back again and again!

It's the kind of place that immediately feels special -- warm lighting, thoughtfully curated items, and a vibe that's effortlessly charming. The owner was lovely -- super friendly, helpful without hovering, and so easy to talk to. You can tell she genuinely cares about what she carries and the people who walk through the door. Lots of beautiful pieces, including some unique European labels I haven't seen elsewhere. Whether you're looking for a gift or just a little "treat yourself" moment, this spot is it. Can't wait to go back next time I'm in town!

There are a ton of lovely gifts to get here for others or yourself. Many are imports from France or Italy. I wanted to get multiple candles, but left with one candle, one really nice shoulder bag (this is what drew me here in the first place, as I had seen it in the window and returned when they were open), and a lip balm ahead of the chilly winter weather that has arrived! I will say the prices here are a bit high, but everything here is of very high quality, and in comparison to the manufacturer or brand websites of the items I purchased, the prices were actually very close in comparison. It also always makes me feel good to support local businesses that are creating the flavor of the city we live in.

This is one of the most delightful additions to the neighborhood of Carnegie. The Artsmiths of…read morePittsburgh is a storefront that sells the designs and works of numerous Pittsburgh area artists. Their website says that the "gallery shop is an art exhibit all its own", and I agree 100%. There's a little bit of everything here - stickers, jewelry, ceramics, glassworks, bath and beauty products, illustrations, photography, paintings, woodwork...that's all here, laid out in a way that makes it easy for you to browse through the art medium(s) you wish to explore. With hundreds of artists being displayed here, it's super easy to browse and see what local makers are up to. Previously Artsmiths operated out of Mt. Lebanon, so if the name sounds familiar, it's because they were in another neighborhood for over a decade. A big reason they moved to Carnegie was that they were growing to a point that they wanted a better space to host their classes. Yes, the Artsmiths of Pittsburgh is more than a storefront - they're also an art center. Their classes will introduce you to mosaics, embroidery, and more. (If that sounds interesting to you, their website is the best place to keep up with their in-person classes, workshops, and camps.) With the holidays rolling up on us yet again, this is a business you'll absolutely want to visit; you're practically guaranteed to find the perfect gift for someone/multiple someones. Beware, though - your wallet might take a hit after you fall in love with all of the beautiful art that's for sale. Mine certainly does when I visit!

I may be biased because I love pinball, but this exhibit is really cool (see photos), and you also get to play a real pinball machine ('Game of Thrones') which is set to freeplay, and is part of the exhibit. The artworks incorporate old, recycled, parts and pieces from pinball machines. I thought it was fascinating. And like I said, his place is really awesome for gifts, artworks, and all kinds of nic-nacs, books, stationary, and other fun stuff, most, if not all of it, made locally in the Pittsburgh area, and a lot of it, featuring a Pittsburgh theme. Big Cheers!!!!! P.S. The cafe' is no longer open, but they are looking for someone to run it, so if you are looking for a business opportunity, inquire within
