Staff were friendly. I got there about 20 minutes before my appointment time and the lobby was full. But they run like a well oiled machine. I went for my yearly eye exam. It's time to consider cataract surgery. My doctor believes I will see better once I have the cataracts removed and new lenses inserted. I am leaning towards having the surgery. I scheduled a pre-op appointment to measure my eyes and hear why it is beneficial to have the surgery. I have used The Eye Center for years. The Eye Center is okay. Thankfully I had an early appointment, so I didn't have to endure the 3+ hour waits others complain about. Pros: Physicians and staff seem competent There's wifi if you have to endure the wait everyone mentions Clean exam rooms Cons: Parking isn't fun, though there is a lot The lady who took my payment was ACTIVELY hostile and unfriendly The doctor seemed nice enough, but it was a very rushed (maybe 2 minute?) visit--I'm used to a more thorough exam They absolutely FLOODED my eyeballs with that yellow drop stuff and it's annoying I have eye problems so I need to see an actual physician, if you just want an eye exam look elsewhere. read more

My 1st and last time in the same day.Never going to let dr. hubickey look after my eyes ever AGAIN. He told me that something bad is going on with my eye and say it's not nothing to worry about right now I will like to see you back in 6 months and proceed to open the door and walk out I had to call him back before he escaped and asked him questions, one being so what are going to about this? Why would anyone want to wait till their eyes get worse? The Doctor is supposed to make sure nothing bad happens Now and later on. Hubickey needs to be fired. I had to go get a second opinion because hes not trustworthy with his opinions not facts. read more

Weeks after I got exam and bought my glasses, I received a bill for additional money. Do not trust these people. They do not care about you and only want more money. They tried to tell me is was for and insurance deductible. They had my insurance information before my initial appointment and did not come up with additional charges until weeks later. Dr. Malone is good, but is always in a rush. Self-pay patients are asked to pay $75 up front, then another payment at the end of the appointment. Apparently that charge at the end of the appointment wasn't sufficient, as I later received another bill in the mail. I tried to call numerous times to inquire about the bill, but nobody answers the phone. If you ask me, this business is being operated a little too much like a medical procedure in a hospital these days. They can't tell you how much something costs up front, because they need to find out how much they need to make that month. read more

I have been going here for 12 years and never had to wait longer than 30 minutes and that was just one time. My doctor is a nice guy and all the technicians and or nurses are also extremely nice and ask questions on how you feel and about your recent exams at your physicians office. During a visit to Huntsville, I experienced a sudden change in vision. Dr. Malone at the Eye Center saw me the day I called. This was on a Friday so it was not the best day to seek emergency medical care. Despite a Friday afternoon emergency visit, he was extremely kind and so were all the staff. I have my vision today because of him. He immediately referred me to the Retina Specialists in the same building and I had a laser procedure that same day. My Mom's primary care doctor referred her to The Eye Center recently. Wait times were very long. As I was checking her out they informed me they were not filing her insurance company at that time. We then went into Old Towne Optical (their optical shop) to order a pair of glasses. I was told they also did not file with her insurance company and we would have to pay for her glasses out of pocket. Due to her needing them badly we had no choice but to do so. She became ill 2 days later and passed away 4 days after that. I called Old Town Optical to inform them I would not be picking up the glasses and was told they would credit my credit card since she had passed away. That was 3 weeks ago and they have not done that. You know it's pretty crappy to charge a dead women for a pair of glasses she will never wear. read more

Disappointed! I scheduled an appointment for an eye exam. My appointment was scheduled for 10:15 am. At a 11am, I still was waiting to be called back for appointment. When I asked the receptionist how much longer until I would be called back. She said there were still three patients ahead of me and didn't know how long the wait would be. No apologies for my wait. Basically, it was not a big deal. That almost an hour past my appointment time and I had not seen the doctor. While I can understand a long wait like that at an urgent care or ER because it is on a walk in basis. This practice is not. You schedule your appointments. When I went to reschedule my appointment, I asked if the wait to get seen is typically an hour past appointment time. The answer was, yes it is always an hour wait time. That is a huge problem. This practice does not appreciate patients time. This was my first day off in 9 days and instead of spending it with my family. I sat in a waiting room, with an unknown wait time and a staff that was like oh well. This was my first time at this Doctors office, and while I was waiting I overheard several established patients discussing the wait times and stating "its always a long wait" and that "it will start picking up soon because its almost lunch time and they start getting faster before the break". Keep in mind I'm talking about an hour to be called back not simply an hour to see the Doctor. read more

The pediatric part of the eye center... Let me preface this by saying I not only waited 3 months for these appointments I also had my other daughter seen. I have twin girls. One of my daughters had an asthma attack (her first one EVER), I had to call an ambulance to my home the night before my other daughters' eye appt. Well, needless to say my husband, my daughter, and I were in the er that night until 3:00am. My appointment with my other daughter was at 7:45 am. needless to say we did not wake up in time. I called the eye center a few hours after the scheduled time when we had woken up and the receptionist said "oh I'll have to ask the doctor if we can reschedule". Mind you on their paperwork it states if you have unforeseen circumstance that cause you to not show up/miss your appointmen, they will work with you..... Well, needless to say they did not call me back for a whole week. I tried to call back multiple times and it was like no one could answer the phone. When I finally got someone on the phone I asked about the appointment and was met with rudeness. Two days go by and I get a phone call. Guess who? The eye center. They proceed to tell me "we can't reschedule your appointment and will not see your daughter at all". Ummm what??? They are twins. I already had to do separate appointments because they told me they couldn't be seen together but yet another mom (she was super nice btw) had twin boys and had them together...?? This place I will never come back to. I will make sure I tell everyone to not come here. Ridiculous. read more

In terms of eye care/exam, this group does a great job. You can get in to see a doctor/technician (you'll spend less than five minutes actually seeing a doctor who checks your eye health. The exams have been relegated to a technician, albeit a very good one! I have no issue with that part of the exam) with little fuss or effort; however, returning to pick up a set of contacts after the exam is painful at best. They said they'd call when the contacts were in but .... no call (I paid up front, maybe I should have waited - they'll call when they want your money)! If you call to check on status, you'll be handed off, by way of a menu-driven system, to call waiting. The call waiting systematically updates you on how many callers are ahead of you in the queue and politely asks you to stay on the line. It even tells you the number of people ahead of you! When your turn comes up, after a long wait period, you will be greeted with, "please leave a message after the tone and we will get back with you!" So why did I spend all that time on the phone being told I had two customers in front of me and to remain on the line, etc? The post-exam customer service from the Eye Center gets a failing grade. They promised to call when my contacts arrived - no call. I've used Costco before for eye exam and glasses/contacts. Costco is quick, thorough, cost effective, and they will call you when your contacts/glasses have arrived, imagine that! I'll be going back to Costco next year. Their eye doctor is just as good (for routine care) and their customer service is great! read more

I was referred to this group by a former employee of The Eye Center. I find that a positive review from a former employee is usually spot on. I previously had surgery for cataracts and multi-focal lens replacements. After I moved to Huntsville, I did not have an ophthalmologist for two years. I was having difficulty with my vision and made the first available appointment after the reopening of the office since COVID-19. I had an appointment with Dr. Derivaux. What a gem! His bedside manner was amazing and I was instantly put at ease. He identified my vision issue and advised it was a simple office procedure with a laser. He was concerned about how diminished my vision was that he had his assistant squeeze me in for two days later. When I showed up to my appointment, I was advised Dr. Derivaux was not available for a personal matter that came up prior to my appointment. The staff member told me I could rebook an appointment with Dr. Derivaux or the staff would try to find another doctor to fit me into his schedule right then. Since I was going out of town for an extended period of time the next week, I opted for another doctor. In walks Dr. Hubickey! Oh my goodness! His bedside manner was equal to Dr. Derivaux! He instantly put me at ease as I thanked him for squeezing me in. Dr. Hubickey was patient, kind and amazing (not to mention VERY skilled!). He even explained the reason for my vision issues as he completed the procedure! I left the office being able to see. I also left with a complete trust in this group. The entire staff was friendly and efficient. My initial appointment was at the Madison office and my procedure was at the Huntsville office. Staff members at both locations deserve my gratitude! read more
