Wow! My partner needed glasses in 24 hours for an event. Searching for someone who could manage the expectations of a rocket scientist is not easy, but we found the utmost professional in John Bejakian! He made the glasses in 24 hours and they were perfect. I popped into this place while staying in Brookline with my uncle for 2 days. I accidentally left my glasses in California, and was hoping I might be able to get a new pair for the rest of my east coast trip. John was on his way to closing the store for a week, so he could take a well-earned vacation, but if I could find my prescription, he said he could conjure up a pair of glasses for me in 20 minutes. I didn't want to hold him up from his exotic summer break, and I was skeptical that he could deliver what I needed in so little time, but he kindly insisted. Luckily, I was able to find my contact prescription, which was good enough for John. He then became my personal stylist for about 8 minutes, zipping around the store, custom-picking lenses he felt would suit my face. In my entire life of wearing glasses, I've never had such attentive and skillful service given to this part of the process. I could tell that John really knew what he was doing, based on his suggestions. All of them were fabulous. Together we zeroed in on a frame that delivered on style and price, and within 10 minutes, I was walking out with a beautiful new pair of glasses, along with that warm & fuzzy feeling of having been cared for by someone who truly loves what they do. Very disappointing experience. I provided three different insurance plans and not a single one was accepted, which was already frustrating. The first eye exam itself was a terrible experience. I didn't feel like I was being treated by a doctor at all. The communication was rude, and I felt uncomfortable the whole time. Six months later, I came back to ask about getting a second exam for contact lenses, and I was made to feel degraded, like I was bothering them just by asking. The lack of professionalism and basic manners made the whole experience really upsetting. I left feeling bad instead of cared for. read more

While I was waiting for glasses to be made (which wasn't long at all!), John greeted every customer who entered the store by name. Not just an impressive feat of memory, it impressed me as the embodiment of a type of customer service that is increasingly rare. John knew his customers and made sure they knew he appreciated their business. John was caring in serving the person I'd brought to his store who had limited English and who was a first-time glasses wearer and he went above and beyond in making sure this man's glasses were tuned to his reading needs, customizing the lenses to make sure they worked well. While waiting, I started shopping for myself and John was very helpful in helping me selecting frames that were attractive and would meet my needs. He also told me he could refit a pair of older frames with new lenses so that I could have a extra pair particularly suited for computer work and reading in bed. I will be back! I've never been in an eyeglasses store where the owner took an interest in each and every customer and knew everybody that walked in the store by name. John is very knowledgeable, professional, and wonderful at human relationships. With his help we found a terrific pair of frames that needed a prescription. after going to a national eye chain that does a lot of TV commercials and finding nothing I checked out the ice spot. What a great collection of eyeglasses from traditional to a big funky if you like the eyeglasses how you Mandel wears on America's got talent. This is the place to get them, I dealt with John who is extremely helpful and just made it a very present experience. We flew into Boston for a cruise and I ended up without my glasses. We were to leave the next day. We called The Eye Store that said they could see us that day. While waiting, several people came into the store and the staff not only knew each by name but talked them like they were all neighbors. It was an amazing atmosphere. I needed transition, no-line bifocals. Now, I'm not saying they can do this on a daily basis but we left an hour later with my new glasses. I think a lucky situation existed that they had just the right lenses I needed. But, it was amazing service and the glasses have been great. This is a fantastic optical shop. John, the owner, is very personable and he has the training, skill, and machines to cut lenses himself. So he doesn't have to keep your glasses for weeks while they get sent to a lab. Instead, I gave him my eye prescription and he ordered the lens material, then he had me come back a few days later and he cut the lenses while I waited. Even better, when I first went in, he did a quick test and told me to get my prescription checked because it didn't seem right. I did and he was 100% correct. Had I gotten that initial prescription filled, the glasses would have been no good. Finally, his price was very fair, lower by far than I've paid to other shops in the past. Just had cataract surgery and my doc didn't bother to figure out what I would use for the unoperated eye--so walking and working with one lens glasses. Feeling light headed dizzy. Asked my doc's place for contacts appointment and they had an opening--a month away! I called the Eye Store and john said come on down since the optometrist was in. Got there and w/n half an hour they set me up with a contact lens for my one eye. Life saver. John was so generous that he knew I had an appt a month away with the surgeon and needed a replacement after one month wearing my current lens so...brother set me up with a free trial lens to carry over the time period until we decide whether to operate on the other eye. John is amazing! He's the owner and optician. Fantastic customer service, extremely friendly, and great selection of frames. He suggested numerous frames and helped me pick new eyeglasses, sunglasses, and sports glasses. He also turned my current glasses into reading glasses at no charge. John has invested in equipment to prepare the lenses on site. It's obvious that he loves his work and cares about his customers. Bad experience. My glasses had loose screw, I came here did fixed. Turns out the shop couldn't repair my glasses, and still charged me $20. The clerk kept asking me to got a new pair of glasses even he said could give me discount. However I m not going to trust this shop's technology. read more

As a young professional, I appreciate they accept payment via FSA card and helped with necessary documentation. I've seen everyone from Boston College undergrads to glamorous Brookline divorcées walk in to get their glasses minted here. But whether you're a pauper or a pop socialite, they'll help you find the right frames for your face, your budget, and your personality. The magnetic clip-on sunglasses that came with my eyeglasses got badly scratched. I was in a hurry to get a pair of glasses and found this store, which offered same-day service. The worker was nice and I appreciated that he selected various frames for me to try on since there is a large selection. I imagine there are other places that are cheaper but I didn't want to wait 10 days. FYI, he doesn't take insurance plans for glasses but there is an optometrist there on some days. Parking is easy at meters although you have to go to one of the big machines, no individual meters, and the big machine I went to wasn't working so I had to walk to the other side. I like that he tested my vision with the new glasses bc it was some time since I got the prescription and he said he'd change it for free if my prescription changed substantially. He also was able to give me a preview of what the vision would look like before making the glasses. I was able to wait and get the glasses and not have to come back later that day. He also offered to replace the lenses in my existing pair for a lower price. read more

The Harvard Vanguard (aka Atrius/Optum) Optical shops, my go-to for decades, closed recently. When I found the Eye Store on Yelp, I figured, "How could I go wrong with 115 almost unanimous 5 star reviews?" Right, the service is outstanding. John, the owner, is patient, soft-spoken, and well organized. He noticed that the threads on my frame's screws were stripped, so he replaced them. Best of all, the new lenses give me such clear vision, and at a distance I'd never experienced. True, some of the credit goes to the ophthalmologist who wrote the prescription, but John's expertise deserves equal credit. John accepted by health insurance and --BONUS--the lenses cost about 50% less that what I had paid at Harvard Vanguard. read more
