We (DH…read moreand I) had the Shandy and the amber ale (we can't remember the names) and they were both really good. The bar was busy (it was a Friday night) but well staffed so we didn't have to wait. The food is food hall style where you go to a counter (there are two) and place your order then pick it up when it's prepared. We went to The Mill (pizza, calzones and salads). I had the Italian Chopped Salad and the flavors were spot on; DH had the Greek Salad with chicken and really liked it, too. Be aware, it's a loud, noisy hall; that's the only thing that I'd prefer was different. We will go again when we go thru Junction City.

What I ordered was out of this world and it was called a Bacon Brew Burger (this burger is the dish that this brewery is known for). The burger consisted of cheddar, crispy onion, ale mustard, and what threw me off for a nice surprise was the bacon-onion jam. Ahhhh man so delicious! On the other hand, I got to sample a new brew that they just released (totally forgot what it was called) and the beer was just as tasty as the burger I had. Anyways, the vibes of this restaurant were nice and the layout is open. You definitely feel comfortable and at home being here. The service was absolutely excellent as well - it was as if I was hanging out with friends back at home! If I'm back in the area I know where I'm going to have lunch again :) thank you so much ya'll

Eric R. and I talked about a day trip on a Sunday, but alas, Three Rings is not open on Sundays. Eric R. had the Storm the Castle bike race this past Saturday, so I agreed to join him in McPherson for the weekend so I could specifically go here! I first discovered Three Rings at Manhattan's Brew at the Zoo, which I went to every year until COVID. After that, it moved from August to later in the Fall and I am never here for it. I am not sure exactly when I first tried it, but my notes from the 2019 event show that Three Rings' Wanderlust was a favorite. I purchased cans of Wanderlust ever since, but there was a shortage in the past year and after going to six liquor stores, I had to get it in Lawrence an hour and a half away! I cannot remember when this was, but the owner and his dad came to lead an event at JP's in the K-State Union for beer and food pairings. It was so fun. Finally I get here and Eric R.'s race registration came with a free beer. The very awesome staff said we could do a flight of 5, but we wanted to try 6, and she was still cool with that! So we tried six beers: Fields of Gold (wheat), Yankee Rose (blonde), Wanderlust (red), Vertigo (IPA), Bulldog (oatmeal stout), and Acres Wild (farmhouse ale/saison). We loved talking with everyone at the bar, both next to us and behind the bar. We chatted with the owner/brewer, and another staff member who also has a creative writing background. Numerous people there were Texans like us, and we had a lot of area connections. A food truck outside was closing and brought us free fries, which was an unexpected bonus! We bought 3 6-packs: Wanderlust, Acres Wild, and Broadsword (dark Scotch ale). On the way out was an afternoon farmers market where we bought freshly picked green beans to make for dinner that night. It was a perfect place to hang out and I definitely want to return! Also, we learned there is no "fear" in McPherson and to just call it MacTown!

If not for seeing the governor tweet about this place, I might not have known. What a shame that would've been. Snugged up against the banks of the Neosho, Riverbank Brewing is bringing solid craft beer and a great gathering destination to small town Kansas. A reclaimed building, replete with broken walls outside, houses a small brewing facility and spacious tasting room. Not a beer drinker? No worries, because Riverbank has you covered for craft cocktails, plenty of wine, and non-alcoholic choices. But if you *are* here for the beer, just know that Riverbank is dabbling in the lab and getting it done RIGHT. I sampled a kölsch called 'Thrill Hills' and picked up an IPA for the Mrs. called 'Kenny Gregory's Vertical'. If ya ain't familiar with Kenny Gregory, look him up. The kid had hops, and so does this beer. I also had a pint of the blonde ale 'Yeah Girl', a wheat-y ale with a strawberry kicker, not too fruity and sensational on the back end. The brewmasters of Riverbank clearly know their way around malt, yeast, & hops and their execution in the tasting room has equal game. There are food options, but it's not a full kitchen. Want to bring your doggo? Riverbank Brewing is dog-friendly inside and out! We loved the opportunity to enjoy a beer on a great day in a great place without having to worry about where to put our dog. Patio seating gives shade for warm weather and heat lamps when it's chilly. It's small town Kansas bringing a big city amenity with all the comfort that Midwestern hospitality is known for!

The most popular beer, Life Coach, seems to be making its way farther around the region. It's a super easy drinking beer. Same with the Lager. I prefer more body and stronger flavor, their beer menu rotates but I had the Voodoo, very good. They also have a full bar and food menu. We had a burger, it was very tasty. The people were very kind and funky. And it's definitely a regular spot for locals. The back patio is HUGE and they obviously have future plans for making it a bit of a destination and/or event venue and I hope they succeed, it's beautiful and they've clearly put a lot of work into it. We met some very nice people and had great food and beer. Worth the gravel road. Oh! And yes they used to be in downtown Washington but have moved more into "the country". It's not that far, just go.

We were quite lucky that brewery owners Brad and Donna Portenier were in the house that Friday afternoon when we came in. It was fascinating talking with them and learning the story of how the brewery started, the story behind each of their beers'names, etc. And, they serve food! Great cheeseburgers, pizza, garlic breadsticks even. We had a blast; we enjoyed some great-tasting beer, some tasty cheeseburgers and very pleasant conversation both with the owners AND their conversation. Even if their beer is available at your local liquor retailer, I would still recommend visiting the brewery.
