We were looking for breakfast while in Wyomissing this morning and chose The Farmhouse Kitchen after reading their description and some reviews. To find a healthy alternative to the diners that use seed oils and commercial eggs, was what we were looking for and found! The staff were so friendly and helpful with a tasty offering in place of meat with our breakfast. The service was quick and the food was delicious- a shoutout to the chef who prepared it and also came out to speak with us. It may have cost a little more than diner prices, but for the meal we received and knowing that it costs more for quality ingredients, we felt it was worth it and hope to return soon! read more

My husband and I hit up the Farmhouse Kitchen for breakfast and we were so happy we chose this place. Very homey inside. You go up to the counter and order and they bring it to you. I ordered the farmhouse breakfast which was lovely. Perfectly diced home fries. Delicious scrambled eggs that indeed looked far fresh . I got it with ham. My husband got an omelette which he said was delicious. Service was fast and friendly. I would definitely go back if I was in the area. read more

Where do I start!? What a cute little place! Random stop for lunch on a Saturday. Place is on the tiny side but we had a choice of tables. The food was absolutely delicious. I had a special off the board. It came with this carrot dressing that was phenomenal! I will be craving that for sure now! I hope this place is still open! My family and I were in town in Dec 2023 for a funeral and my daughter looked this place up and said let's go! Well, not only was the food absolutely amazing, and truly farm to table fresh, the staff were all nice and working hard to bring that rural PA hospitality quality cuisine. The decorations were a definite conversation starter and keeper. We chatted about all the nostalgia. And even the tiny restroom warranted a photo op. It's a tiny tight space of an eatery, but well worth the squeeze. Just like the fresh squeezed orange juice and health shots! Loved it. Hope they're still in business. The lattes and cute decor were the only redeeming features of this establishment. We were highly disappointed after having this on our list of want to visit places. Here are some of the reasons for our disappointment: 1. Hospitality is significantly lacking! There is little to no warmth of personality in the workers. No smiles no guidance for taking orders of someone who professes it's their first time visiting. No one followed up to see if we wanted to or needed anything else after our food was received. They didn't even bother asking if everything was okay. Customer service has no personality nor a dedication to excellence. 2. To order/pay/ attain a menu, you must navigate and stand in line on steps which will be difficult for customers who may have disabilities or mobility difficulties. 3. High chairs are stored in the bathroom along with the toilet and other items for storage. This is quite disgusting as when toilets are flushed, particles are sprayed into the air and then will come to rest on the high chairs where patrons put their children to eats. Gross. 4. I specifically asked during the placement of my order if the sausage was spicy/peppery and was told "no", so I ordered it, only to have both myself and the other person in our party agree that it was spicy/had a kick. No syrup was provided either. 5. The toast was so hard it was like a rock and I never was provided with the jam that is clearly indicated on our receipt, and I was charged an additional fee for- nor did anyone come over to check on us or offer to bring it. Again poor service! 6. The floors and displays were dusty and boasted cobwebs. Observing staff clearing plates from tables I noticed that tables and chairs were not wiped/sanitized between customers. There are additional concerns we had about our first visit here, but I'm sure you get the idea. It is extremely rare that I leave poor reviews, but this one stood out and can't be overlooked. Just highly disappointed and I would never recommend this place, except for maybe a coffee to go, but nothing more. Save your time and money and visit elsewhere to avoid wasting it and leaving in a state of disappointment. read more

We just enjoyed a great breakfast here. It's not cheap, but you get what you pay for. I got a pesto grilled cheese (added bacon) which looks really small, but loaded with flavor and made with the best ingredients. It came with a side. I chose hummus with veggies- yum. My guy got the oatmeal. we also got 3 drinks; Latte, cortado, and an energy smooth. We also tried the lemon blueberry muffin thus all equaled $65. Well worth it. Excellent, tiny gem serving lots of gluten free and vegetarian options with friendly service. You order at the register, get a number and your food is brought out to you. One note would be that there is no accessible way to order as a step is required. Parking is on the street but we were able to find a spot within a block or so. Had a chance to dine here recently and had a lovely breakfast. I got something light: avo toast with egg with a traditional macchiato (they know how to make them here) and a sugar donut muffin for dessert. Afer further research/hindsight, I realize this place is a 'healthy' restaurant but they don't both post any general nutrition or even basic caloric estimates? I can only judge this place on taste otherwise. The hollandaise sauce was sour and not rich or creamy. There was too little sauce too. The eggs were slightly overcooked/not runny enough. The biggest problem was that the chorizo was bland and tasted like boiled beef. Even with minimal/no oil, you could still at least get some crisp and season it well. Home fries were underseasoned but acceptable. All of this was a premium price too. read more

Passing through the area and decided to try this place on a Sunday late morning. It caught us a little off guard that it was so small and the order at the counter process was interesting. It all seemed to flow well though. There are like 7 tables in the whole place but they seem to turn pretty quickly. Food was excellent. Eggs were obviously farm fresh with those beautiful dark yolks. We stopped here on our ride through PA and we are happy we did. While I loaded my cart with bill kitchen essentials, my husband ordered a few subs which were the best subs I've tasted in a really long time. Stopped in for a late lunch/brunch. There is a large parking lot nearby, you just need to cross a busty traffic area. That wasn't a problem though. We got seated quickly, I think it was good to go at an off time. None of us got drinks other then water. I think they gave us really small water glasses to encourage us to buy drinks! I got turkey sausage gravy and 2 eggs with home fries. The food was very tasty but it wasn't very hot. My wife had a chicken salad with avocado and she was very happy with it, although it took a little extra time for that to arrive. Generally the food was good and the service was fine. read more

On Sunday trips to Reading to take 82 year-old mom back to her church, brunch is a usual part of the routine, and today we decided to break custom from the Wyomissing Restaurant buffet and try the Farmhouse Kitchen. The wife found it on Yelp, so we gave it a try. And it did not disappoint! On a busy Sunday morning, seating was at a premium, but we were steered to a table quickly and urged to grab it quickly by an employee. We placed orders, waited about 15 minutes, and had food delivered pronto. Coffee (Passenger Coffee) was solid, although I'm not sure there were refills. I ordered the omelette with chorizo, pepper and onion; it was really good- as were the home fries- but it just...wasn't...enough. Maybe I was really hungry, but I could have used a little more portion. Mom's pancakes (2) were good; son enjoyed the breakfast platter, and wife had the Root wrap (vegetarian, hummus, pesto, veggies). Food was enjoyed by everyone- no argument there. The mission of the Farmhouse Kitchen is fresh, healthy food. Everything is sourced locally, and there is no doubt of the quality of what is on your plate. I admire their efforts to promote healthy lifestyles, and let me enjoy a meal I can feel good about. Cost for breakfast for 4 was $75. My only issue is the food to cost ratio, but I suppose that's the price of eating healthily. There's a reason we didn't eat at McD's, and this is it. Yes, I'd wish for a little bigger portion for the $14 I paid, but supporting this establishment and its mission will bring me back in future visits. read more

Disappointing. I love a good breakfast when traveling. The Farmhouse Kitchen had good ratings on Yelp, so we decided to stop by. The menu seemed to be rather limited. I decided to take eggs Benedict (might be my favorite breakfast dish), and my wife ordered a French toast. Eggs Benedict were served with roasted sweet potato, made in the breakfast potato style - this was not bad. The eggs were cooked well, but this was the only saving grace. I never had more acidic hollandaise sauce ever, it tasted like it was made with vinegar. Tiny pieces of ham were barely chewable, and the dish was served on very strange pieces of bread, almost paper thin. The French toast was dark brown in color, and while it tasted okay, the bread had a texture of a grainy baby food, impossible to get by. It was also served with a syrup which seemed to be a diluted version of a store-bought pancake syrup. Truly mediocre. Not recommended. read more

Small spot for fresh, "farmhouse" food. Not many options to choose from on their small menu. Menus are seasonal. It's a seat yourself and order at the register type of place. Menus are by the register, you choose what you want and place your order. They bring the food to your seat. They are also huge on recycling as they have those recycled & reusable straws. I can tell there are no extra additives in their food because nothing was super salty or sweet. Here's what I ordered: 5 Grain Veggie Burger with a side of potatoes ($14.95): veggie burger was decent, not much flavor though. Didn't hold up well so as I bit into it, it fell apart. The bun seemed to be homemade which I enjoyed. The bread could've been a bit softer, which might've helped with the patty staying in place. Lots of yummy veggies and beans in the burger so I loved the variety. My wish is that they create some type of sauce to add on this burger as it was super dry. I'm a sauce person and the only topping I could add was ketchup. Some type of remoulade or aioli would be nice. The potatoes were okay as well. Had a hint of vinegar which was interesting. I also topped them with ketchup as i wish they had seasoning to them. Beef Sticks ($2.25): they have a choice between a sweet beef stick and a hot beef stick. Got the sweet one for my 3 year old. He thoroughly enjoyed it. So much so, I got none lol. Chocolate Covered Cherry smoothie with flax milk ($10): loved this one. All their smoothies are 16oz which is a great size. This smoothie I got for my 3 year old but ended up drinking it myself. Tastes like you're drinking a chocolate covered cherry! Not too sweet and not too chocolate-y. Peachy Green smoothie with flax milk ($9): enjoyed this one as well. Wasn't overly sweet and though it says peachy green, I could taste more greens than peach. Still good. Overall, the food is probably overrated but the smoothies are delicious. I would definitely come back for their smoothies. It is pretty pricey too so this will be a once in a while spot. Would definitely go out of my way to stop here (which is my new metric for 5-star restaurants); so if you find yourself in Reading, block out a morning to drop by! The decor is cute too. Bookshelves with food related books to feed your mind as well as your belly! It is on a cute road too that has all the small-town charm. Chicken Caesar Wrap was neatly proportioned and had a nice crust of cheese/dressing(?) in the edges. My wife didn't wait for me to snap a picture before grabbing a half and taking a bite. The Corn bread is apparently the best my wife has EVAR tasted (her emphasis, not mine). It was quite good, I do agree! It has all the small grains and bits of corn to confirm that it was "healthy," but enough butter to make it edible and savory. My wife ended up ordering more to-go. :) The Meat & Potatoes bowl was so good, I didn't have to put any other condiments on it; which I usually do with breakfast foods. The sweet potatoes gave it that balance of sweet & savory that all foodies seem to covet. Hadn't really understood the allure until now! I am a believer! Set aside a morning to come here. I went here with a friend this past weekend and thought it was a decent brunch spot. Tables were spaced out and all the servers wore masks. You sit at a table and then go up to the counter to order and pay. Someone will bring you your food when it is ready. The Pros: friendly staff, nice decor, wide variety on the menu, and decent food (+ coffee). I ordered the FHK chorizo salad (it was lemony but decent) and my friend ordered the meat and potatoes bowl and a cappuccino. She really liked both. The cons: it is slightly overpriced for some items, but I can't complain about the price of my meal. My issue was that my sunny side egg was just barely cooked- 10 seconds less and the egg white wouldn't have been cooked. The mix in too was very bright and lemony, but missing much else in terms of flavor profile. Additionally, the menu states that almost all items can be made with a vegan substitute- always exciting for a non meat eater. When I asked what the vegan substitute for the chorizo salad was, the response was "no chorizo." Now that is perfectly acceptable, except the menu makes it sound that there are going to be actual vegan substitutes. It should read, "most meals can be made vegan" to be more precise and in line with actual offerings. Overall, decent place to go if you're in the area and in mood for some brunch. But if you're vegan (or vegetarian), just be warned that despite what the menu says, there aren't many vegan substitutes available, only omissions read more

I visited this location and talked to the cashier about needing gluten free foods, he showed me the options of muffins and such. The menu had an option for gluten free eggs Benedict so I ordered that. After I ate, I asked to confirm the food was gluten free and the cashier said "Oh, sorry I forgot". Nothing else. I was so sick the rest of the day. I emailed the company to discuss my concerns and the fact he didn't say anything else or offer me a refund. Quite frankly an "oh sorry I forgot" doesn't cut it with food intolerances. THEY NEVER ANSWERED MY EMAIL. Clearly this company does not actually care about their patrons. Never again.
