While in the Philippines and seeing a Jollibee practically every other corner in places like Angeles and Manila. I was surprised to hear that you have restaurants that offer Southern-Style Fried Chicken, but also Waffles and Chicken and one was famous for it's Ube Waffles and Buttermilk Chicken.
Yeah, so I had to see that for myself and I ended up at Fat Seed Cafe, I don't know how they got that name but it was a small place with cool wall murals. The menu had a few interesting items but I had to go for the main dish. It looked good, and no Aunt Jemima or Mrs. Butterworth's syrup here. you get three whiskey glasses with 3 different syrups/sauces. A maple syrup with bits of bacon, salted egg sauce, and a pickled onion sauce.
I used all my maple & bacon syrup and traded my salted egg for my friend's maple syrup because I was not enough, the combo was so good, and I found out I could get salted egg fried chicken skin appetizers, so I was crackling and popping my meal. The chicken was good considering it was the Philippines because I had a lot worst in NY.
My friend had the bugger on a black brioche bun I wanted to try that too but I was stuffed after downing a Iced Cafe Mocha. There was more itemjs on the manu like pasta and pork chops, Mango rum Chicken, and crazy sounding drinks like one called Dark Matter, made with Gin, Cold Brew, Campari Bitters, Sweet Vermouth and Orange Peel, but I only got that one time here and after I got back to Jersey I wish I had done one more time at Fat Seed. And it was cheap too like 1000 pesos, like $20 for both of us.
But the trip change how I eat waffles or pancakes, I now pour my syrup on some crispy bacon slices on top of them. read more
