I called to see if Greg could fix our non working remote. He said sure and asked when the last time the insert had been serviced. I asked are you supposed to service them? He said he would look at the remote (and receiver) and then service the insert. He came out and serviced our insert. which was really bad. Once he got that done he checked out the remote. He did some manual tests and everything worked as expected. The remote or receiver had gone bad. He ordered us up a new one and had it shipped to our house. He showed me what I would need to do to do the work myself but if I was uncomfortable in doing the work or could not do the work, he would come back out and install it. Our Heat-N-GLO fireplace had been giving me trouble for about a year. We had contacted the local Heat-N-Glo dealer and couldn't seam to get a service appointment after waiting 2-3 weeks. I turned to Yelp and found The Fireplace Guy. I left a message during the day and got a return call that evening. I explained the problem and Greg said he thought he could handle the troubleshooting and repair. The following evening Greg stopped by to see what he could do. After dis-assembling the unit he found the problem and proceeded to fix it on the spot. Greg was very professional and careful in our home laying down a work blanket, and being extremely careful with the fireplace components. He was also thoughtful in that he cleaned the glass on re-assembly and laid in some new "embers" that we had. Great rate, great service, and a pleasure to do business with. read more

Mr. Gomez quoted me a price of $150 to fix the electronic pilot and clean the burners.I specifically questioned him as to that price covering the pilot and cleaning and he said yes. When he finished he said he could not fix the pilot but will call a guy who will tell him what he needs to do to fix it and get back to me. I didn't want to pay him at that time as he hadn't fixed the problem I'd called him out on. I told him this but he was insistent that I had to pay him that day. $135.was the price for cleaning the fireplace. I called him a couple days later since I hadn't heard from him and his voicemail was full. He still hasn't called me and I don't expect him to. It's been a few weeks. I am thinking I'll be better off in the future not to call these independents as much as I'd like to support them. The success is spotty. Odd thing: I had an appt with him and called to tell him I'd like to wait for the following month as I don't want to put any more on my credit card. He showed up anyway explaining that he hadn't checked him messages. I explained the message. We made an appt for a couple weeks. At the end of the appt as explained above I was going to give him my credit card. He said he doesn't accept credit cards.....Weird, yes. read more

Called early Monday morning and Greg called back promptly and was able to come out same day to check the gas fireplace in a house we just bought. Arrived on time and was super polite. He cleaned and repaired the fireplace and made it look brand new! He spent about an hour and half ant charged $170 which seemed more than fair. read more

After reading the reviews, I called "The Fireplace Guy" to come out and fix my gas fireplace as it was not lighting. I was impressed with him....he was very nice and brought his daughter along. They got my fireplace going, cleaned it out and I thought all was well after writing a check for $100..... The next time we went to light the fireplace.......alas.....it didn't work, nor has it worked since. TWO calls (two weeks apart) to Greg have gone un-answered. Greg absolutely knows what he's doing. We originally called and didn't get an answer, but within an hour or so, he called us back and arranged to come and check out our fireplace SAME DAY! He was very prompt, friendly, and thorough in checking out our fireplace. We had never used the fireplace since we moved in, so it was very comforting to have someone reliable and not in it strictly for the money. I'm not sure who the person was that came out to our home. I believe it was either Greg or Doug. They came out and looked at our fireplace, did a quick cleaning but didn't get it working. They made a few small adjustments and repairs and decided to come back the next day. I don't think they knew what they were doing because they kept scratching their heads and calling each other on the phone. Weeks and months went by and I got no return phone calls or emails. They just disappeared and vanished and my fireplace is still not working.Do not hire them if you have a very expensive fireplace. They will mess it up. I do not think they're professionals so ask for their license before they start any work. They are a liability. I do not recommend them at all. read more

We found Greg on yelp and we're very pleased with how quickly he responded and came out to look at our two gas fireplaces. He did tuneups on both taking everything apart to the smallest detail and being very neat about it, laying everything out on a tarp. Because the fireplaces were 10 years old they were full of crud, insects etc. He even cleaned the insides of the glass. Everything works great now! Before the starters would barely work. Our outdoor fireplace had been out of commission for a year or so, and I called Doug to come take a look at it. The pilot wouldn't stay lit so he took it apart and cleaned the bug debris out of it, leaving it working like a champ. While he had the unit apart he cleaned inside of the fireplace, polished the glass, and shined up the exterior. Exactly what I wanted! I called Greg on Friday afternoon and came by on Saturday right @ 9 like he promised.. My gas fireplace has never been serviced since it was installed with the house in 2004.. The glass had a white tint and would take a few minutes to light.. Greg took it all apart and showed me all the dust that was collected and preventing the unit from working properly. I saw in someones review where Greg charged them $100 for his service. That is far cheaper than what I get here locally in Missouri where things are supposed to be far cheaper than they are in CA. To get my fireplace serviced it costs me between $200 to $250 on up to get it done. I wish he had his business in my area. At those prices he would have more work than he could handle by himself. read more

We called Greg on the strength of the excellent Yelp reviews, even though it wasn't clear whether he did chimney and fireplace inspections. He does - and he had time to come over a few hours later. He quickly checked everything inside and outside, explained what a few of the cracks indicated and told us our fireplace was in great shape and fit to use. We just need a chimney cap.
