The Fish House is one of our very favorite restaurants in Peoria. From the food, to the outstanding service, to the old-school atmosphere...we always have a top-notch experience here. While in town on business I was feeling the need for some seafood. Staying at Stoney Creek in East Peoria and have a place named Johna's next door, but reviews led me here, even though 15 min away in Peoria. I did get the food to-go, so it is sometimes hard to get everything totally right. I will have to say, I was pretty happy considering I had a 15 min drive back to the hotel! The food was still nice and warm. I got the seafood platter. It came with a very nice mixed greens salad with grape tomatoes, hard boiled egg, cucumber over mixed greens. The platter consisted of scallops (good), shrimp (a tad over cooked, but still completely edible) tilapia (excellent), stuffed crab shell (excellent), lobster (perfect! With only one exception - no drawn butter!). They did send cocktail sauce, lemon wedges and what looked and tasted like a homemade tartar sauce that was very tasty! Rice on the side (great!) and dinner rolls but no butter. All-in-all a very good meal, even if it was to go and in styrofoam. read more

While visiting from out of town, we decided to try The Fish House. My husband had been here before and had good food. It was a nice atmosphere, but needs to be updated. Because we are trying to watch our weight, we decided to get an appetizer, split the entrée and get an extra house salad. It cost almost the same amount of money to split an entrée and order an extra salad as it would to order two entrees. Not impressive at all. IF we would live in the area, we would have done that and taken the extra home for the next day. We've been to Jonah's before and will go there in the future. Best seafood in town. Great service, great selection of fresh fish. Yes the place is darker than other restaurants but no more than any other upscale venue. If you really want florescent lighting for your fries there are plenty of other spots for you then. read more

Last night my Husband and I had dinner reservations for 6:30. We were not seated until 7:20 after being told at 6:25 that it would be a 15-20 min wait. There was a party of 6 ahead of us that had a 6:30 reservation and were told it would be an hour and a half wait even with having a 6:30 reservation. Once we were seated the service and food were excellent and the food was well worth the wait. Management, you need to look at the front of the your house and have them catch up with the back. Our favorite Peoria restaurant. We love the charbroiled Alaskan halibut. The augratin potatoes are the best! It's kinda pricey so we only go on special occasions. Service is always excellent. We have never had a bad meal here. read more

This has always been one of our favorite places to eat. For the last 20 years our family has held my Mom's birthday dinner here and it has never disappointed. The food is great as well as the over and above service. We celebrated my Mom's 85th last night and it was great. We always bring in my Mom's favorite cake from a local bakery and the staff keeps it in the back brings it out with candles lit and serves it for us. There very few places where you can still get this level of food and service! Thanks for always making this celebration special for my Mom and my family! read more

Took my Mom to dinner, and am reporting on what I experienced. A bit dark inside, more old-supper-club-look than I'd associate with a seafood place. The good: Our server was excellent. Knowledgeable and helpful, with a great personality. The main course crab legs were delicious, as was the asparagus side. Not so good: My fried oyster appetizer ordered with light breading came with more breading than oyster. Would hate to see what the normal amount would have been. Minus one star there. Requested some hollandaise for the asparagus and was brought some sort of goo that was kind of hollandaise-flavored (if you didn't know what hollandaise was and your taste buds were defective). Yuk. Would it really be that difficult for a nice place like this to have real house-made hollandaise to go with their great seafood? No. IMHO the executive chef is apparently just lazy or can't be bothered to go the extra yard. Sorry, but that takes another whole rating star off on its own! read more

Our Sunday lunch for 4 was very nice. There were many things to choose from and all reasonably priced. There were not many people in the restaurant from 11:30-10:00PM, so hopefully they have more during the week or at the evening hour. Our waiter was attentive and gave us good advice as to what to order. All in all a good choice before going to the Performing Arts Center on a Sunday. read more

We had a reservation this past Saturday at 6PM for eleven to celebrate our Grandson's graduation from Bradley. Our table was ready at stated time. Our waitress was exceptional and catered to our every need. Wide variety of entries at reasonable prices. Dishes were attractive and the taste/quality/quantity were excellent. We have eaten at the Fish House on numerous previous occasions and have always found the same fine traits. I would recommend them to anyone. (PS - Children are always welcome quests.) read more

Born in Illinios, moved to Minnesota when i was 4, when my parents and I make a trip back every year, we take the time to schedule a visit to The FIsh House, I absolutely love lobster and steak so I always order the surf & turf, my father always orders the African Alaskan, which is a lobster tail and crab legs. You really cannot go wrong here, it all depends on how much money you are willing to spend, but I wouldn't definitely suggest the oysters rockefeller, even if you do not like oysters they are worth trying! read more

Excellent service and entries were great. Wife's Grouper Piccata and my crab cakes were excellent as was service.

Had dinner there last night, 6 people total. Not sure if it's normal for places today, as I hadn't eaten out in a long time, but they asked us how many checks we wanted. We also couldn't be seated right away because they hadn't bought out the water for the table. Strange, If you get there before 6pm, they have a less expensive smaller menu, which we all chose. After 6, prices are expensive. Some of our choices were the clams, chopped steak, and salmon. At the end, I asked everyone how they rated the food, from A to F, F being the worse. No A's or B's. Most C and below. The service was very slow, especially waiting for the checks and they were not even half full. We will not be back. read more

I've Never a bad meal or service at this restaurant. Top notch seafood and steak even for an area like Peoria. It's nice having a place that serves such amazing food and is also kid friendly. We bring our child every time and never feel ostracized. Dress is casual but can be fancier if you want. Julie the hostess is always very accommodating and Paul makes the best martinis. Even though this is a seafood restaurant they have the best steaks in town. I love how this family owned restaurant caters to any request. Excellent food and top notch service. read more

This is the best restaurant in Peoria! Our family and extended families favorite restaurant. Even if you do not like seafood, you will have an incredible meal. The salads are fresh, homemade rolls, fresh fish/seafood. This restaurant is a an asset to our town. Many years ago I worked part-time as a hostess at the Fish House, the kitchen is extremely clean and the owners are hands on, this is why this place is successful. Walking into the Fish House is like stepping into 1974, or at least how I imagine 1974 was. The decor is very dated, but it's dark enough there that you might not notice...okay, you'll notice but the food more than makes up for it. Everything on the menu is great. I get something different every time I go and it never disappoints. Friendly staff. read more

This place is synonymous with OLD -- older clientele, older decor, old credit card machine & register, etc. Not recommended for younger folks (under 40) as you may feel out of place. The food is OK, but we won't be returning to try anything else on the menu. read more

How can it be not even 6pm, empty tables abound but a 45 minute wait for a walk in table for two? They don't take reservations but you can phone ahead to be put in line. We will spend our money some place else. This is usually a favorite of ours. When attitude meets the market place, the market moves. Maybe next time they'll value our business. read more

Dark, dingy & dated. Poor quality fish, probably frozen. Nice salad, otherwise downhill from there. Waitstaff never came back to see if all was okay after serving meal, probably knew better. Not one of my better dining experiences. read more

this used to be a place I liked. a lot. don't plan on ever returning. bartenders never were friendly or personable. the waiter pushed the tazmania salmon. I tried it stuffed and only ate two bites. told the hostess as we were leaving it was the worst meal ever. she laughed and thought I was kidding. Still my favorite restaurant in the Peoria area. Have been going there for years...I think I went there for my high school homecoming back in the late 70's. It is better than Jonah's in my opinion. Our last 2 visits to Jonah's resulted in slow, poor customer service and cold food. Probably won't go back there again. We have never had a bad meal at the Fish House. As far as it being too dark, it's always been that way and people still love going there so as another reviewer said, if its not broke, don't fix it. read more

Went to the Fish House this Saturday have not been there in several years. The service was exceptional there was a few problems but our waiter was on top of them. The only issue was the Lobster Bisque i swear they tryed to pass on a cheese soup with some sort of chicken broth mixed in very very disoppointing. read more

The good: A great wait staff, well apportioned servings, and strong mixed cocktails. The bad: Oysters Rockefeller - was that cheese from a can, or block Velveeta? Not sure which, but the salty cheesy aftertaste couldn't be washed out with a cosmopolitan martini, or the caramel cheesecake. Salad was iceberg lettuce, with 3 spinach leaves a sliver of egg, and a cherry tomato, I asked for balsamic and got Italian, and it was drenched in Italian. I ordered the special, fillet minion stuffed with, yes again over (blue) cheesy and salty steak seemed well cooked but I couldn't taste it past the cheese sauce. The place was so dimly lit I couldn't even make out the pink center from the outer edge on the steak. My mate ordered Prawns, in what she described was a marinara sauce, and they were overcooked, a fork would not cut them. The ugly: Very Low- Lighting, decor outdated and stale, too high of a price for the overall quality. I would rather stay home and cook for myself than return here for a meal. read more
