My wife and I were here again last week. I agree with the other reviewers, that this is the best seafood restaurant in the Peoria area. First of all, it is dark. It's SUPPOSED to be. That's how restaurants were in the 1970s, and this place has the 1970s vibe (and I went to many restaurants in those days). If you want a restaurant with light bright enough to read a contract by, then Red Lobster is just down the road--the bright lights there will allow you to color your placemat with the crayons they give all the screaming kids. The Fish House is a place for an adult dinner; or even a romantic dinner. That's why restaurants had candlelight in the 1970s. The food is solid. I have lived in Florida, and spent a lot of time in New England (wife/in-laws are from there), so I know that there can be some really outstanding, "rave-about it for weeks" seafood restaurants. This is the midwest, but still, the food here is very good. It's not imaginative, and they probably haven't changed their recipes from the 1970s, but I think the food is solid, and it's one of our favorite restaurants in Peoria. The wait time to be seated here is always long. I'm not happy about it, but I know that going in. The prices are a bit high for Peoria. Not prohibitively so, but more than you would expect. Last week my husband and I were able to enjoy a nice quiet kid-free meal. It was the first time we had the chance to get out in months. I wait tables myself so getting out is rare. We are on a tight budget so we don't go out often- Fish House hit the spot! We were able to take our favorite wine and pay a small corking fee...so nice! :) Plus we had a SUPERB server. Because I serve as well. going out isn't always enjoyable for me- but our server was wonderful! She was so knowledgeable and really knew her menu - excellent! We ordered the stuffed mushrooms to start, I could eat the mushrooms for my meal....yummy!!!! :) I then had the cedar planked salmon and it did not disappoint. I have had this before and it was just like I remembered. I traded soup for a potato and had to take some of the fish home. My husband had the pecan crusted tilapia and he devoured it! We shared a desert and I will admit, it was a bit dry. But at that point, we really did not need it! The decor and the setting was perfect and service was outstanding! Wonderful dinner!! read more

We love their specials, crab cakes and the stuffed salmon. They offer wide variety of drinks, the portions are large and food is very flavorful. Very relaxed atmosphere considering all the people they were accommodating. The servers coordinated well and were well versed in the menu. I had the grilled oysters. Hard to find a place that serves them. They were different than I had in NOLA. The butter was appropriately understated, and the hints of sriracha, garlic and fresh oyster flavored came through. Excellent! Then came the grilled redfish, served over cubed sweet potatoes and sautéed Brussels sprouts. All worked together to support the slightly smoky and mild redfish. Very nice combo. The bread is fresh and warm- like crescent rolls, only fresher. The potatoes at gratin had a very like but flavorful cheese sauce. This Midwest boy appreciates the attention to the staple as well as the great sea food. A creamy key lime pie, with a nice level of tart lime coming through the creaminess topped off a wonderful meal. The chef knows how to mix sauces, especially cheese sauces so they do not overwhelm the food. Can't wait to try other dishes on our next visit! read more

We have been going to the Fish House for many years, most recently on January 12, 2013. Like many restaurants the food and service fluctuates from ok to great. This time the food and service were great! The hots rolls were fantastic! Same goes for the steak and salmon. I read some of the other reviews about the decor not changing and the restaurant being dark. Both are true and I think it is funny because my husband mentioned the same two things when we were there last. All-in-all we obviously continue to patronage the Fish House. Maybe the old saying, "If it isn't broken don't fix it" applies here. read more

The food was as good as always, but the service and the precautions for COVID were not up to par. We were seated for 20 minutes and had to go up to the hostess before our waiter came to talk to us. He never apologized or acknowledged our wait. He also took his mask off when he talked with us. It did not seem they had blocked off any tables or moved the tables to be far enough apart. read more

Overall terrible experience. Celebrating anniversary. Ordered based upon waiter recommendations, they were out of the appetizer, main course (Sea Bass really), rice and garlic mashed potatoes. I can understand if we ate at closing time or if these were specials, however we dined at 630PM and all the items were NOT specials. How can they be out of rice and mashed potatoes? I later found out that they were also out of lobster bisque, but apparently they microwaved some....it seems to me the MGR has not idea on what they are doing. I won't be back.... read more

This and Jonah's are hands down the best seafood places in P-town. I'm surprised this place doesn't have more reviews since it is quite the popular place; packed with a 30-40 min seating wait on the weekends. The atmosphere is in the aphotic zone; dim lights, dark wood, nautical theme. We come here somewhat frequently and they consistently have good food, both seafood and steaks. Usually I have the seared tuna (always fresh) or salmon. Tonight I had the Connecticut blue point oysters in a half shell and they were delicious. I ordered half of them "sriracha grilled" and they had some diced sautéed onions and herbs mixed in. Yum! Hubby had the Filet Oskar (steak topped with crab and hollandaise sauce) and enjoyed it. I thought it looked kinda funny but the taste was full of flavor. The meal starts off with warm FANTASTIC bread rolls. The lobster bisque was a bit odd. I can't decide if I liked it or not. No actual lobster pieces in, yet had a cucumber base. Did they change it? Their desert menu is varied enough by including creme brûlée, flavored cheesecakes, key lime pie, and some pecan bourbon cream thingy I can't wait to try next time. We had the turtle cheesecake and it was topped with the best caramel sauce. Service is professional and efficient, water glasses were frequently filled. Came in for dinner with my parents. We were excited to try a new place. We were not disappointed. The service and food were fantastic. The staff was great. We made a 6pm reservation and had to wait a bit at the host stand. The decor was rustic, but chaming. I would recommend giving this place a try. I really like this place. It's old-fashioned, dim-lit, and very tasty. Their rolls are scrumptious and always hot out of the oven. I love their cedar plank salmon and crab cakes-both awesome. Their house dressing-some garlic vinaegrette is also amazing. The price isn't too bad and if you eat before 7pm you can order smaller portions for a lot cheaper. Not too shabby! read more

Have eaten here many times and always enjoy the meal but not the noise level and darkness. Recently went with friends from out of town. We have been in full restaurants that were dark and noisy but the decibels here ruined our meal. Maybe something can be done to update, lighten the rooms and decrease the noise. Gradually the noise level was so loud we decided to go elsewhere for coffee, drinks and dessert. read more

My husband and I had dinner reservations for 6:15 and were seated by 6:35. I loved the decor and atmosphere. It made me feel reminiscent of dining out with my grandparents. The house was packed with many white-headed patrons. This is generally a good sign ;) We ordered an appetizer of fried gator. It was not impressive. The pieces of gator were small and there was more breading than meat. The serving size reminded me of an order of fried clams. It was served with a marina sauce and a Thai sauce. I preferred the Thai and my husband said he would've been happy with a cocktail sauce. They also brought out our rolls. The rolls were good. Then came our lobster bisque and oyster stew. Both were to die for and the soups were exactly what the rolls needed. I would have been satisfied right there. The bisque had beautiful chunks of lobster and blue crab, it was the best I've ever had. The oyster stew was heavenly and forget the butter served with the rolls they must be dunked in this buttery concoction. Our main entrees consisted of lobster tail and filet, and Hawaiian big eyed tuna. Everything was cooked perfectly. The lobster tail was large and delicious. The steak was ordered medium-rare and was spot on with a wonderful grilled flavor. The garlic mashed potatoes were wonderful but we hardly ate them for lack of room! The tuna steak was the star at this meal. It was cooked just seared and completely raw and served with fresh ginger and a Wasabi sauce. It was huge but we ate every last bite. The Fish House has the best seafood in central Illinois. I cannot wait to return because there are several items I want to try. read more

The Fish House has a huge selection of seafood! They have any seafood you could imagine and they have a fresh daily special which is usually something expensive and exotic. I have had the tuscan mahi mahi which was superb and the jumbo grilled shrimp is also wonderful. The dinner rolls are wonderful when they are fresh. The atmosphere is very dark and romantic. Decor is very nice and classy. Both times I have been we have never had to wait for a table. It is usually pretty busy though and maybe a little noisy at times. Service is always excellent, never had any complaints. One of my favorite places to go in Peoria! read more

We had dinner reservations for 8, including 2 infants. We actually were seated before our reservation! They did not have any high chairs for the infants available however, a staff member did bring them later in the meal (which was awesome!!). We did get appetizers, we got the Crab Turnovers and the Calamari. The Crab Turnovers were seriously PHENOMENAL. Sadly, you only get *2* buttttttt you can add additional turnovers! The Thai sauce served with the Calamari was amazing! Everyone at our table got a different entree, my husband got the salmon that was the special for the evening, I, blackened Grouper, his sister the Hoisin Mahi, her man got the cashew crusted tilapia, my father in law got the Thai Sea Bass, and his wife got the pistachio crusted Sea Bass. Had my dinner at the bar, and despite there only being 4 other customers in the bar/lounge, service was slow and not a very pleasant experience.
