This is a very cozy restaurant reminiscent of many years ago. Food was very good. Obviously this is a very popular place for locals.

I can not say enough good things about this place. It is a must try. By far and away, the best food I've yet to experience in Peoria.

Yes it is expensive but one of the best meals! You need a reservation. We had the raw oyster which was outstanding. Hubby had grilled Halibut which he said was better than when we were in Alaska. I had the Sweet Chili Thai Sea Bass which was out of my comfort zone but will definitely order again. We ended with a shared dessert. With 3 drinks the bill was $165 without a tip. The Fish House has a huge selection of seafood! They have any seafood you could imagine and they have a fresh daily special which is usually something expensive and exotic. I have had the tuscan mahi mahi which was superb and the jumbo grilled shrimp is also wonderful. The dinner rolls are wonderful when they are fresh. The atmosphere is very dark and romantic. Decor is very nice and classy. Both times I have been we have never had to wait for a table. It is usually pretty busy though and maybe a little noisy at times. Never disappoints! Peny was our server and she is friendly and professional! During Covid 19 it was nice to see business going well and precautions being adhered to as needed. The oyster stew never disappoints and the surf and turf were great. Copper River Salmon charbroiled to perfection and a filet cooked perfectly to medium. To Chef Justin - thank you! Very good food. I had the halibut charbroiled and have never had better. Because it's good food and service it is extremely busy, make your plans. Service was as good as the food. We were in a group of eight and all were very pleased. Decor is old style, dim lighting but still a nice place. You will not get lost in the restroom. We come here frequently...tonight was one of the worst visits we've had. Loud, obnoxious people at a table just feet away (I know the restaurant isn't responsible for their patrons' horrible behavior) and our table wasn't the only table that was pissed! However, nothing said to the offending diners. Our server could have cared less about being there tonight, much less about taking care of her tables...I've seen more personality in a blade of grass! I can see why people from the area say this is Peoria best seafood restaurant. Many options the staff were very friendly and provided outstanding services. We were seated very quickly and were greeted by our waitress. She recommended the Tasmanian Salmon. The waitress was awesome, knowledgeable and it really showed that she enjoyed her job. Unfortunately I forgot her name, but she said that she was there for eight years. Now for some constructive criticism, the place could use some updating. The place is a little dark and dated. Yes, the Fish House can be dark, but to me, that's part of the charm. It's older and the interior is filled with a lot of dark wood and nautical charm. The servers are always professional and we always enjoy our meals here. In my opinion, this is the best restaurant for seafood in the Peoria/East Peoria area. I also think their dinner rolls are up there with the top three I've ever had. If you are from one of the coasts you may have had better seafood, but I always enjoy seafood at the Fish House. My husband has also ordered their steaks, not being a huge fan of seafood, and they are good as well. And they do make a mean au gratin potato side. Who would have imagined that a fish restaurant in Peoria, Illinois would only be average? This place earned stars for a robust menu filled with menu choices, but lost a star for being so dimly lit that it was not "romantic" but felt more like the lunch break at the coal mine. My meal partner got the Neptune Platter at $22.50 and it had a small chunk of lobster, some scallops the size of miniature marshmallows, two medium shrimp one crab shell stuff with crab cake and a piece of tilapia. I got the Canadian Scallops described by the wait-person as the "big" ones. Well they were bigger than the bay scallops, but still they were only about one inch across, and the six (or was it five?) scallops looked so pathetic on a 12" square platter. It was the worst job of "plate coverage" I have ever seen. The au gratin potatoes taste good, and if I had not had that as my side dish we would have been stopping at the Burger King on the way home. They had three soup choices, which we avoided because each was proudly made with heavy cream and butter. read more

This is, in my opinion, THE BEST restaurant in a 150 mile radius. (OK, paralleling Le Mekong, Moline). We have made a point to stop at the Fish House on every opportunity when traveling though Peoria, and wow am I glad we have. I always remember that it's good, but I forget that it's GREAT. It embodies the old-fashioned meaning of "GOOD" food, service, attention, quality, and atmosphere. I thank God they are still persevering. They are as great as ever, even during COVID. The atmosphere is calm and comfortable, and the attention to service and quality of food shows utmost importance. Having fresh, flown-in seafood in the Midwest is a true treat. And the Fish House takes special care that no precious morsel is poorly treated. I really mean it, their GRILLED OYSTERS(!?) with GRILLED BREAD(!?) are Perfection! And everything is "old-style," meaning served with your choice of salad/soup/potato/veg. I chose salad with blue cheese & crumbles, and fried zucchini. It was Hand-floured zucchini slices, nothing salty or processed, and with homemade ranch. The salad was to die for. And their waitstaff is obviously Well-Trained in the art of service. They know everything about the menu and are kind, friendly, yet discreet. The seafood is top-knotch, makes you think you're on the coast, and every choice of preparation. We had an 8:45 reservation. after 9:30 my husband checked and they said they went past us but will seat us now. and when we were seated they were like 4 or 5 empty tables. Our waitress was not very attentive had to ask for everything. I saw the order at another table and inquired she said that was king crab so I ordered but mine did not come out that big at all when I asked she said she put in for the king crab but that is not what we received. for $160 for 2 people, we will not be back that was ridiculous! This has been one of my favorite restaurants but my last trip there was a real disappointment. I ordered the King Crab Legs, $74.00 plus. This is my favorite meal but not this time. They were about as dry as they could get them. I may be back but it won't be for Crab Legs. read more

The Fish House has always been the go to place for seafood and nice dining in our area. This last visit we planned to splurge for my birthday meal. And splurge we did! Wine was $20 for a GLASS! Yikes... almost double or more of what higher end restaurants charge per glass. My grouper Oscar had barely a drizzle of sauce( which I ordered for my love of hollandaise). My husband's Thai chili sea bass was delicious, but Over $40 per entree that only included one side. Neither entree included a salad-that was extra. They changed their creamy garlic dressing-a runny Italian now. And coffee came watery/diluted. So not the standard of quality we were used to. Service was great, I will give our waitress that, but for $160, I could have made an excellent lobster dinner at home with a nice bottle of wine! In my opinion... not worth it! read more

Great place for fIsh in Peoria. The decor is older and the crowd has mostly blue hair,, but the service is good and the prices are reasonable. Food quality has always been on point as well, which is pretty important at a fish joint. The menu is extensive and they have daily specials as well, so you don't get stuck in a rut ordering the same thing all the time. Wine selection is quite good as well. Only thing we haven't tried are the desserts because we're always too full from dinner. This is your spot for fresh fish in town. read more

Came here with my wife for one of rare date nights, it was our first time here and it was a major disappointment! Nothing we ordered was even close to being worth the price we were charged, my wife ordered the Entree Tuna and should have been an appetizer with amount she got and on top of that it was over cooked! I had Broiled Seafood Platter and everything had the same taste, the lobster, tilapia, scallops, and shrimp also the shrimp was freezer burnt. The crab cake tasted like bad Thanksgiving stuffing. I live in Boston. Naturally, I'm spoiled for a good seafood restaurant that has reasonable prices. But even in midwestern Peoria, I would hope for better. I went early enough that I could get the early bird dinner menu. "Canadian Scallops" at $16.95 sounded attractive, but when the plate came out, there were only three of them! Sea scallops are about an inch to an inch and a quarter on each side, and these fit that. I ordered mine broiled. I think the broiler was not as hot as it should be, as there was no carmelization, and they were a bit rubbery. Not much garlic in the garlic mashed. Another reviewer ordered the regular price Canadian Scallops and got six, probably for half again the price. So the early bird specials are a bit of a rip, in my opinion, and I think they are designed for seniors who don't want to each much anyway. (BTW Bay scallops, also on the menu, are small, about a half inch on a side, generally a bit less tender and less sweet. I don't think I have had them even once since I tried the larger and sweeter sea scallop.) I had a bite of charbroiled tilapia, and a bite of the special cashew-encrusted tilapia. The fist itself is very bland - but it is a mild fish. The charbroiled one was too dry - I think fish this thin should probably be quickly pan-fried. The cashew one was tasty, but mostly it was the cashews I was tasting. The "lobster" on the menu is frozen African "lobster" tail (and the menu calls it "African lobster"). Technically this is a crawfish, not a lobster, as it has no claws. If you find one of these fresh, the body is worth eating, but usually you find them only as frozen tails. I did not try it, but have had it in another Illinois seafood restaurant. I assure you that fresh lobster in Maine is an entirely different experience, and for the price, I would not bother with this cousin. The decor is old-fashioned, and the light is not bright. If you like fancy decor, this place does not have it, but good seafood places in Boston with good prices are generally simple, family-style places, a lot like this. read more

Excellent place for deliciously prepared fish dishes. I usually go for the Alaskan wild caught salmon which is a delight. Often they have some exceptional specials which I would highly recommend. On the downside, I wish they would remodel the inside which is way too dark and kind of old: Robert Irvine could do marvels there. Otherwise it is one of our favorite place and you are not getting the usual chain restaurant greasy and calorie laden dishes which you would find in places such as the Red Lobster. The Fish House is many notches above and both my wife and I make it our bi monthly location for mouth watering fish and seafood dishes. Try the Mahi Mahi or the grouper. Smells like dirty, wet Depends inside. Lots of seniors though. Maybe that was it. Very dark thoughout too. That orange lighting makes it easy to fool the eyes when looking at a steak temp that is overcooked. I paid $70 for a dinner for two and you're going to serve us INSTANT mashed potatoes and au gratin potatoes from a BOX? No seasoning on the filet mignon either, even though my wife asked for extra seasoning. My charbroiled Chilean Sea Bass was completely flavorless and I wouldn't be surprised if it came frozen just like the cute little onion rings you top your filet mignon with. I'm no food snob. I work hard at two jobs for my money and hate wasting it. I think a $27 fish entree should be absolutely amazing; this was not even the least bit appetizing. Never again. read more

I went here on a busy Saturday night with my family. We called ahead to be put on a waiting list. It was particularly busy, because we ended up waiting an additional 45 minutes from the time of our arrival, a full hour and a half from when I called in. The hostess was abrasive and fairly rude, and she should probably be fired. After we got past her, things were great. Our waitress was very polite, and provided prompt service. There was a large selection of seafood, and all of our dishes were delicious. We ordered a seared tuna and a plank salmon with a sweet glaze. The glaze was a little too sweet overall, but not enough to mark it down. I'd probably stay away if I didn't have a sweet tooth. As for drinks, I was surprised that they had blue cheese olives for the martini that I ordered. It seems like I can never find them anywhere. Although, it wasn't as cold as I usually like it. Overall, the fish house gets 4 stars. It would have earned 5, but the foul attitude the host gave me knocks it down one. read more

Immediately entering the Fish House I was quite alarmed by the atmosphere. It was like they decorated once in 1974 and never bothered to update. The lighting was so dim it took awhile for my eyes to adjust. You'd think a restaurant with this menu and price range would have white tablecloths at least. Instead the tables and art work feel like they are taken from a truck stop. Our service, though, was spot-on. We received a friendly greeting and prompt seating by our hostess. Our waitress was also courteous and attentive. Most entrees were in the $20 range. My husband ordered the special with the jerk seasoning. They have early dining specials from 4-6pm through Thursday, so I ordered the halibut from that menu ($16). Our salads quickly arrived and were tasty, but I believe it was just iceberg lettuce. Honestly, I wasn't sure because it was so dark in there! Warm dinner rolls were also served with our meal. My halibut and my husband's special (escolar) were very good. My halibut serving was very small (~4oz) and was accompanied by one floret of broccoli...that's it. I left dinner still hungry. I guess I should have got the regular size?? Overall, I felt my dinner was very overpriced, albeit well-prepared. Also, I could not get past the tacky decor. If I could give 3 1/2 stars, I would. I don't think I'll be back unless someone else was paying for it. p.s. Later that evening I 'googled' escolar and found it was banned in Japan and Italy. The place has a very laid back vibe, but the lighting make it very difficult to read the menu and made me feel like I was in some type of dream sequence. I ordered some shrimp with ravioli (I think) and was very disappointed. The sauce was extremely gritty and the pasta was cold. Everyone else in my party seemed to think their food was pretty okay. My husband and I went there last night for dinner. I had the Neptune's Platter and he had the two African Lobster tails. We also had the sampler platter of Alligator, Oysters, and Calamari for an appetizer. For dessert we had the Key Lime pie. The food was absolutely delicious! Prepared perfectly! This was worth the wait as the lounge was comfortable for drinks and had good selection at reasonable prices.
