I live in New England and had never had trigger fish before. My dear friend's son works at The Fishing Hole and we went for dinner. Her son said the trigger fish was a MUST try. That was 4 visits ago!! Now every time I come down for a visit a MUST DO is a meal at The Fishing Hole on Avalon in Milton. Today (and always) I get the grilled trigger fish. Today I had the baked beans and hush puppies as sides. The trigger fish and baked beans both were absolutely fabulous. I loved the hush puppies. We started with the calamari app which was delicious. I call in my order. They said 20-25 minutes. I got there in less than 15. My fries were cold and stuck together. Fish was ok, hush puppies were the best thing on the plate. Online menu said the meal was just over $15. I understand things have gone up. It was $17.63 plus they charged a $1.77 takeout fee. You'd never guess how comforting the inside is based off the outside it gave very good vibes and very homey! *We started with the calamari as our appetizer and was very pleased. You get a good amount for two people and seasoned very well. *We ordered the blackened catfish which was probably the best catfish I've had at a restaurant. It came with hush puppies, which were also the best hush puppies I've ever had. They were so soft on the inside but crispy on the out and flavored so wonderful and they were big and you got three of them. We ordered a side of garlic bread with the dinner too, which was also really good. * my husband ordered the fried mullet. You get a very good amount of fish for the price. it was really tasty and seasoned very well. The tartar sauce paired very good with it. He got a side of french fries, which were really good. Unassuming place, easy to miss. Very nice interior, well lit, clean , tables nicely spaced. Excellent service. Expansive menu. Outstanding food! I had the bacon wrapped shrimp which was excellent and my brother had the fried grouper which he really liked and he doesn't like anything! LOL. The side salad was surprising. Dried cranberries, slivered almonds, spinach, etc. a side salad is usually pretty boring, this one was a pleasant surprise. Hush puppies were obviously homemade and very good. Everything was perfectly cooked and attractively presented. Word of caution: everything comes steaming hot! Handle with care! LOL. Kinda pricey though. Separate prices for cash and credit. Went to the fishing hole a few weeks ago and will be making a trip again really soon!! We went on a Sunday after church and the wait wasn't long at all. The service by Olivia was out of this world!! We appreciate you so much!! The catfish was cooked perfectly, the coleslaw was delicious, and the hush puppies had us fighting over who got the last bite. The star of the show though? We've been here a few times now, and It's been hit or miss with service. The food is always good. This last time we both had the seafood basket. The shrimp was cooked perfectly. The mullet was lightly breaded and tasted amazing. My husband said the only disappointment for him was the oysters. He said they lacked flavor and were dry. I love their salads. The firecracker shrimp app was delicious, and a big portion. We had great service until we got our food. After that it was like we were invisible. When the food was brought out, I asked for more cocktail sauce, and our waitress said ok! It never came. Had to chase down our check, I know they share tables, but I imagine it's hard to keep track of who did what, and who's taken care of. read more

So, I have heard the Fishing Hole advertised on local News radio for some time but never tried it. Why did I wait so long? As we drove up the outside did not impress me, but the inside, the staff, and the food was very impressive! My only complaint was the music. For such a relaxing atmosphere the music should be more classy and less Creole. The owner should think of having some live jazz music. Eh. Not a fan. We started with the fish poppers, which was called chum balls because they were foul. The calamari was good, but the ranch buffalo sauce was a weird fit and the marinara sauce was just jarred. The mahi dinner was overcooked and tasted like an unclean grill - it also had the exact same shape as the frozen mahi from Publix. The fried shrimp were the best, but the cocktail sauce was had frozen and had way too much celery seed in it. For a not cheap dinner, we were pretty disappointed. We just came in from Pennsylvania, and this was our first restaurant in the area. The electric just went out, but one of the owners came out and said don't go anywhere. I will do this for you with a flashlight. She took our order never wrote anything down and came back within 10 to 15 minutes with one of the best meals I have ever ate anywhere there were six of us and everyone's meal was absolutely perfect !!! that was one of the greatest moves. Make sure when ordering have the waitstaff repeat back what you ordered, we had a very disappointing experience. We ordered Trigger fish sandwiches with one side that comes with it. What was brought to us was a dinner platter. Almost double the price. When she tried to serve it to us, we said no we ordered sandwiches. She brought back the same fish plate to us and said I will bring your buns out. Shortly after that the sandwich buns were brought out and we made our fish sandwich, and it was delicious! But when the bill came we were told since we had the bigger portions they're charging us for the dinner platter. So the bill was about $30 more than we expected....... I went to the new location on 90 just before the bridge. Had oysters, mulllet, and triggerfish sandwich. The person shucking the oysters needs some training, but they were fresh and very good. The mullet was also very tasty! The seasoning was perfect! The triggerfish sandwich was not great. It was not fresh and was soggy. Lesson: whenever you serve a fried fish sandwich always make sure there is a crust on the outside. This will keep the fish from drying out. Anyway, the fish was dry and not fresh. Passing through and stopped in for lunch. The food was over the top good! Crab claws were perfection. Hush puppies some of the best I've ever had. Catfish was on point! I came to this restaurant on a whim. I was not disappointed. I ordered a cup of seafood gumbo, grouper nuggets and a blackened Triggerfish sandwich. The seafood gumbo was good, but the grouper nuggets were insanely fresh, which is a huge plus. They weren't overdone as many restaurants might do them, but they were perfectly fried and tender. They were so tender that they fell apart and the tartar sauce and had to be eaten with a fork. The blackened triggerfish was cooked to perfection. The flaky flesh was mildly sweet. Very disappointed. I ordered Mahi Mahi fish tacos. Menu states "Soft flour tortillas" for some reason they made them crispy. Also they claim HOME made Pico de Gallo, all they need to do is go on You Tube and get a recipe. The fish was blackened, then over seasoned the fish and it was too salty. Absolutely awful. The place was great when it first opened but our last experience was abysmal. When my wife was served her food our waitress said my meal needed something quickly redone and would be out shortly. Fifteen minutes later they brought my plate out and it was not what i had ordered. The waitress suggested i eat it anyway and they would comp the meal. I told her i didnt like what it was couldnt eat it. She said they would take it back and make what i had originally ordered. Another 15 minutes later my wife was done with her meal and the waitress said mine would be out very soon. By that time i had had enough. I told her to just forget it.
