I had the pot roast with the twice baked potato and the pot roast is so flavorful and tender. The twice baked potato is creamy and cheesy. My brother ordered the Prime rib sandwich with horseradish sauce. He loved it! He said it was quite tasty. My Mom had the Reuben sandwich and loved it. It was so big she took half home. I come here only to say that I didn't like the Prime Rib. It was cooked to a perfect medium rare but the meat was stringy and hard to cut, like if Angus Beef was Prime. This is my first visit to what in my family is a highly touted favorite, the service was superior and the concept is carried out with marvelous model airplanes and white cloth tablecloths. It takes you right back to those O' Club days and boy were they fun! The sides were terrific especially the green beans and I'm sure other dishes were great. Great atmosphere and great theme! We went on President's Day for a late lunch and the food was absolutely fantastic! Burgers were made with great ingredients (recommend the After Burner), BLT was classic, Junior Pilot Mac n Cheese was homemade and wonderful, the chips are also homemade, and the pretzel bites and beer cheese are on par with German restaurants! Love the breakfast menu at The Hangar! French toast is perfectly done and bacon crispy. My husband loves their biscuits and gravy. Coffee is delicious and the service is outstanding! My cousin pointed out that there is a full bar and a large bar area as well. They appeared to have nightly drink specials as well! The food should now actually be described as "cuisine" without the price one would expect. The chef is awesome, preparing Soup of the Day as, guess what? Soup of the Day, as in he makes delicious and fresh soup...dare I say "Yummy"?...every day. Oh my gosh, the Chicken Tortilla Soup is memorable! My daughter ordered it for my 3 year old granddaughter who, with every bite muttered,"Mmmmm, good, more". Believe me, had she not been our precious little angel, my daughter and I would have gobbled up every bite. The salads are beautiful with not a trace of wilted brown lettuce, cucumbers are crispy, and the tomatoes taste like sunshine. The salad dressings are home made and delicious. The shrimp is divine... mine was blackened .... and tomorrow, as I head to the Low Country of South Carolina, I am certain that I shall be served no better. Oh, did I say "Serve"? Well, the service will knock your socks off, fun and friendly, attending to every wish, without hovering. Disappointed. My wife and I went for supper on a Tuesday night. We were seated right away. The place is well decorated. Seating comfortable. The menu selection is limited. I ordered the Black and Blue burger. The patty was thin. It was overcooked. The seasoning on the burger was too salty. Hardly any cheese on it. Just a few sprinkles to say that it had cheese on it. I couldn't taste the cheese at all. Just salt. My wife ordered the fried green tomato sandwich. She said that the tomatoes were soggy. And the sandwich as a whole was flavorless. The fries were room temperature and not crispy. And they weren't busy when we were there. And for the meal it was overpriced for what we received. What an amazing establishment! It's like having a fantastic restaurant in the middle of an aviation museum. It's full of great authentic aviation memorabilia. Donated mostly by patrons. As a Navy veteran who served aboard two different aircraft carriers it was a REAL TREAT to see one of my former ships crew hat displayed and a photo of the ship on the wall near my seat. Ok so let's get to the food. Hands down this place rocks! The food is delicious and you can tell great care and attention to detail is practiced. Great flavors and plating. Every time we have eaten there, each dish has been phenomenal. The owner is a wonderful lady and she made a point to come and say hello and to check in with us each time we have been there. The restaurant's decor is cool. The staff was very friendly. My husband ordered their margarita and it was okay for what it was. But it was expensive compared to other places we've been that had a bigger, stronger drink. We both had the Caesar salad and thought it had good flavor. Their day special was shrimp on a piece of fish (can't remember type) with a lemon sauce. The sauce was good. The shrimp were cooked perfectly. The fish portion was huge, but tasted pretty bland. The green beans were over cooked (soggy, not crisp) and lacked flavor. I think you can see that in the picture. The key lime pie tasted homemade. It was tart and we wanted another serving! We tried this place a handful of times after it replaced Nichols, because the location is so convenient for us. The first time we went, the food was ok. Each trip progressively got worse, ending with a Togo order (for a family of 4) that we threw in the trash because it was just inedible. We really wanted to like it, but refuse to spend the $ (felt the food was a bit pricey) on food that just wasn't good. I'm always a little surprised to see folks still frequenting the place. Maybe we just ordered the wrong things, but we wont be back to test that theory :( read more

My daughter had her daughter's 5th birthday here. There were over 20 family members. The staff arranged the tables in a "U" shape for us all to enjoy the celebration. One of the waitresses joined our fun by dawning "Happy Birthday" paper glasses! She still had them on when we left . They had two waitresses assigned to our table. They handled the orders swimmingly, keeping them separated correctly and not missing any of our food. I had the Ruben and it was delish! Everyone in our party enjoyed their food and drinks. My son-in-law got the Prime Rib special and was pleased with the flavor, particularly the au jus. I paid for 10 of us (7 adults and 3 kiddos), all but one of the adults had two drinks and the bill was very affordable! The Moscow Mules were very good. The bill was so reasonable I was afraid they forgot something. But when I checked back, they nailed it. Being a Naval Aviation Veteran, I love the memorabilia and pictures. We love Ace's Fillin Station so when we saw the Ace's name on The Hanger on Avalon we were excited to try it. We went at 5pm on a Wednesday and it was very empty. Only three other tables/booths were seated. One booth in the first room off the lobby and two in the next room. We were seat in the booth in between the two in the second room. There was a conversation being held between the gentleman behind me and a waitress which was loud but on matters that were personal and uncomfortable for us to listen too ( mass killings by military and suicide of children) while the lady in the booth behind my husband talked so loud and continuously about "the way she does things " it was maddening. It would have been a more pleasant experience if they had spread us out more since there was so much room. The food was good and very generous portions. I got the chef salad which was fresh and plated nicely. It was $15.99 which seemed high but it was enough for this meal and another. My husband got the BLT with sweet potato fries. Again there was very generous portions. The bacon was crispy and thick sliced on buttered Texas toast with fresh lettuce and tomato. Mayo served on the side so you can decide if or how much you want. His meal was $12.99. The restaurant has an aviation theme and was well decorated and clean. It is worth trying if you like sandwiches and salads plus they have quite a few appetizers on the menu. read more

Fried Green Tomatoes were tasty.....The Pot Roast was better than most, I think the Mashed P. Which was great rose the level. The Collards were on point.....as for the rest of the order....not much to see here. Lasagna was underwhelming, BLT was a BLT, and the Rueben was an avg Rueben. A lite on the fries though. First visit - tried The Hanger for the first time on a Monday at 5:30p. There were only a few customers dining but it was early. The service was great but no one was there. The restaurant really has a strange feeling like maybe it's trying too hard with the overkill of military memorabilia. The music was odd too. We ordered 6 of the 50 cent wings which came with enough Ranch to feed the whole table. They were good! We chose a salad as a side & it came out first, good size & exactly as I ordered - minus tomatoes & onions. If you ask me, the "military themed names" are confusing & gimmicky. We had the ribeye & fried shrimp with twice baked potatoes. Meat & seafood were good but the potatoes were way too salty. 2nd visit (few months later) - Arrived on a Sunday around 6p. All of us in the restaurant were crammed in the back room which made things loud and chaotic. The waitress seemed stressed (which is weird because there were many of them) as she told us all the things she was out of which included Ketchup, tarter sauce, chicken pot pie. She took forever to bring us each thing - napkins, refills, utensils. Hubby's fish tasted like what you would get from Captain D's and my chicken salad had an odd taste, not fresh. The crescent that it was on was so stale that I couldn't bite/tear it. I started feeling nauseated shortly after I left and continued to feel sick all night after eating the chicken salad. HUGE mistake!!!!!! 3 meals 2 beers 1 margarita and 2 sweet teas would equal 90 dollars. We had to ask several times for condiments and garden for the burgers. This place is pretty big. When you walk in, there is a section to the right where the bar is. To the left is the rest of the restaurant. Behind the hostess is the restroom. The decor has the military and aviation theme. I ordered a Buzz Aldrin's which fried green tomato. It came with a bacon ranch dip. It was ok. When I cut it open, it's a bit watery. May want to dry up the tomato and/or season the tomato with some salt to soak up the extra moisture. $6.99 The snapper meuniere was under seasoned. But it was cooked well. It came with 2 sides. The buttered broccoli was not seasoned at all. Some salt would make a huge difference beside the butter. The collared green can use less vinegar. As soon as I put it in my mouth; vinegar was all I could taste. $24.99 I also had a Gulf Coast Brewery Backstabber Coffee Porter that was in a bottle. It was decent. $3.99 read more

Review Time: The Hanger Seeing this place is literally one block away from my other halves house, we decided to try it for dinner tonight. Let's see what this local Milton eatery has to offer. I truly have never seen this place super busy, but of course we are greeted with southern hospitality. I really like aviation them through out the restaurant. I wish I would have had the opportunity to take my dad. We were not very hungry tonight, so no appetizers. I decided on the chicken pot pie with mashed potatoes and greens; and he had the chef salad. His chef salad looked very fresh and loaded with goodies. Now, when I personally think of Southern cooking, especially in Milton, I think of fresh veggies, gravy, and fried goodness. I'm truly sad, because I love supporting local restaurants. My chicken pot pie had uncooked crust with frozen veggies in it and a very liquid bland gravy. The greens were canned with bacon added in it. The best part of the meal was the fresh red mashed potatoes, but I had to add a lot of salt and pepper. Meh this place was a pass. I'm a pilot so I had to check this place out, but the decor was cheesy. Food was pretty mediocre and definitely not worth the price. We shared the potato skins appetizer which took forever to come out, and then it was like 5 potatoes that were bland. Not worth $9. I got the queso burger, which was a soggy flavorless burger with nacho cheese on top (nacho cheese is not queso). It was disgusting. We tried a 2nd, but it wasn't really what we were looking for. We went to a 3rd location to find that the wait was longer than we wanted, so we settled for The Hangar. My wife ordered wings and a side salad. I got the patty melt with fries. The food was okay. We ended up spending over $50 bucks for 8 wings, 3 pieces of celery, a bowl of warm and slightly wilted salad, a Bubba burger on toast with a few onions and cheese, some french fries, and a couple of beers. The wings were edible, but slightly disappointing. The salad was edible, but slightly disappointing. The patty melt was edible, but slightly disappointing. The fries were edible, but slightly disappointing. The bill was affordable, but slightly disappointing. The wait staff were great. We ended up eating at the Hangar. It was relatively enjoyable, but not what we were hoping for. Milton really needs a restaurant that offers a menu that will keep people from driving to Pensacola for good food at a decent price. The building that the Hangar is in would be perfect for that type of restaurant. The effort they're making is valiant, but they're missing the mark - slightly. If the food was either better or more affordable, the Hangar would be a go-to place instead of a place to settle for. It's okay, but I enjoy the What-A-Burger patty melt much more than I did the Hangar patty melt, and spend much less when I do. read more

The server said the chili was homemade which may be true, but it was clearly warmed up in a microwave before served to us and was not warmed up long enough. The fried green tomatoes were no better.
