What an awesome beachy type eatery. From the decor, to the food and to the location. Sitting right at the opening of the Bayou Chico inlet where it feeds into Pensacola Bay sits the Oar House. Definitely a local hangout so you know it must be good. Tall, icy and well crafted cocktails and the appetizer, oh my goodness the appetizer. The Key Largo Shrimp were amazing with many different flavors. And don't leave without trying their Crawfish Etouffée soup. It was the best I ever had. Some other hits of the table were the fried grouper sandwich. A nice size fillet with tasty breading. And the Shrimp Po Boy had more shrimp than I've ever seen on a Po Boy. Just crazy and so YUM. Just a perfect place to enjoy your day (or night) watching the boats come in and out. Oar House is a Pensacola institution for good seafood, efficient service, and great place to watch the boats pass by. Their food is consistently good. The dining room is inside outside with a beach tiki atmosphere. There is also a volleyball court. I use get a salad with grilled tuna as a low carb option. If not, I usually get the seafood basket with fish, shrimp, and fried oysters with a side of cheese grits instead of french fries. I love dipping the fried seafood with the grits. Delicious. They also have really good seafood gumbo. For three people with 3 soda, an appetizer, and 3 main courses our check including an $11 tip added about $75 dollars. During inflation, where every restaurant is trying to take advantage and over charge customers, they have been reasonably priced. Could benefit from avocado added, but the side of coleslaw added a similar creaminess. Side of beans, salsa and a slightly spicy dipping sauce too. The tacos were LARGE and filled with shrimp lettuce and chopped tomato in every bite I do love that in this area one can easily find fresh fish cooked in a variety of ways! What a cute place to stop and have lunch! We sat on their outdoor deck and enjoyed a view of the water and marina. I ordered the blackened shrimp with rice and steamed broccoli, while my husband ordered the fish and chips. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The blackened shrimp was so flavorful! To end the meal, we chose to share key lime pie (even though it was a square). It had just the right kick of lime flavor and it was sooooo creamy. We loved it and highly recommend. This restaurant was recommended to us by a friend who had visited the Pensacola area. We just moved here and this was only seven minutes from our new home. The hostesses are excellent and very friendly. They seated us next to the water at a great table with a wonderful view. Our waitress arrived at our table, timely, and with a big smile. Drinks were ordered and brought right over. We had fried pickles for an appetizer and they were absolutely delicious. We all ordered seafood to include shrimp and grouper, which all came with sides of hush puppies and fries or grits. I opted for the grits and they were absolutely delicious I would really recommend the oar house if you're in the area visiting or if you just moved here or if you're a long-term resident. It is a great fun atmosphere and everyone there was wonderful. read more

We like to stop here for lunch when in the Pensacola area. This was our first trip back since 2021. Our service was fine. We like the view of the bay & boats. It's a beachy vibe. My husband's & friend's pieces of grouper were small & thin this tile. Tasted fine, but they felt the size of fish was very small. My nephews grilled medium ahi tuna was thick & large. My husband loved their root beer. The gumbo was was ok but not great, but the cup was a good size & he was glad he didn't get the bowl. The cole slaw everyone enjoyed. My oyster po boy was filled with a lot of fried oysters & was good, but the oysters & fries were not very hot at all. My margarita was a C, I make a better one at home. So while we still enjoyed our visit, it was not quite as good as several years ago. Fun photo ops for tourist throughout the place inside & out. The parking lot gets full. They don't take reservations so it gets BUSY at peak times. read more

OMG.... How can a favorite restaurant fall from a 5 to a 1 in a year. Three of us went for a late lunch today. How in the hell do you slice fish that thin to the point that the grouper is as thin as a piece of sandwich meat at the deli. My son had the fish and shrimp meal. I had the child's portion because of fish fingers and fries because of my advanced age. That small serving was good for me, but again the protein was very ministerial. My sons fries were disgusting. One of the very first restaurants that we tried after relocating to Pensacola. We followed up on the recommendations from our neighbors. The Oar House was one of them. As we arrived we were greeted by a server who led us to our table by the windows. The view of the bayou was pleasant with boats drifting through. A touch of Pirates of the Caribbean. The menu was quite extensive so it took awhile to decide our appetizers and entrees. Hushpuppies and a bowl of Seafood Gumbo to start. Then we had The Forklift, Blackened fish filet topped with provolone cheese and sauteed mushrooms. Also the Chicken sandwich that was marinated and blackened. To begin with this little seaside restaurant is a hidden gem. It's just a little off the beaten path, but what a beautiful view and what a fun place! The outdoor seating is awesome and the tables inside still experience the sea breeze as it is an open air establishment. Our server was good. She was good about accommodating our requests and was timely. She was not overly friendly or super responsive but she got the job done. On to the food. We all ordered off the lunch menu. The fried shrimp was really good as were the hush puppies that accompanied the dish. The cheesy grits were good and the coleslaw was okay. The red beans and rice they offer are a little different than any I've had before. Less of that Cajun zing and more of a Smokey finish. Very different but very good. We just ate here and my husband ordered fried shrimp. They were good as usual. I ordered the grouper and grits and coleslaw. Coleslaw is always great but it was a first time I had ordered this dish I and I love grouper and I love their grits but maybe it was a combination of the fish and the sauce. Maybe it was the combination in the heat but unless you just love something that tastes very fishy I would recommend staying clear of this dish. Every time I make it to The Oar House, it just hits right. There's something about sitting out by the water, boats easing by, live music in the background, and that laid-back Pensacola vibe--you can feel the stress just drop off your shoulders. This place is wonderful, located on the water so you can watch boats coming in to dock or leave. Outside Tiki bar is very trendy with tvs and open air feel. Seating at tables with umbrellas, sun shades all around the bar area, and extra seating area without tables too. Great place to relax and grab a drink and something to eat. I always find myself at The Oar House when in Pensacola. The vibes are great, friendly staff, and tasty food. Come on in and seat yourself, either inside or out. If it's nice out I'd suggest sitting near the water for pretty views of the marina. Lots of options here from a full bar to food menu items. My favorite is the Grilled Shrimp platter; it comes with ~10 well seasoned shrimp, rice, mixed vegetables, coleslaw, and hushpuppies. The perfect meal, in my opinion. Prices are reasonable. Stopped for lunch after diving the Oriskany. We sat at the bar and unbeknownst to me, you're allowed to smoke at the bar and had to deal with the cigarette smoke from a couple of smokers. The bar is outside so maybe that had something to do with it. I ordered the grouper & grits with a side of garlic green beans. This meal was fantastic! The fish was cooked to perfection, was very light and almost buttery. The grits with the sauce added a lot of flavor. The shoestring green beans were also cooked perfectly. They were nice and crisp with bits of garlic. The perfect side for the dish. This was the best meal I've had in the two weeks we've been traveling and eating out. It was accompanied by a local Pensacola Brewery beer, Riptide amber ale. Great beer if you drink ambers. The meals did take a bit to come out but hopefully that's because everything is made from scratch. If you're at the marina, come here and grab a cocktail and food. You won't regret it! read more

The Oar House advertises being dog friendly. So we decided to meet friends there for dinner. It was a cool night so the patio was not being used. We were standing near the front door (outside) and the person I assume was a hostess yells "NO DOGS" at us and then screams into the restaurant "He's trying to bring in a dog!", which I wasn't. I was just standing outside. And guess what, stray cats roaming inside. Wow. I've never been in and our friends who were regulars will never go back. We went to Bonellis and they took great care of us. Shame on this place for advertising dog friendly and then screaming and embarrassing us when we arrived. Terrible service. read more

Nice chill spot overlooking the water. Love that they have a sandy play area with corn hole and volleyball. The restaurant is pretty good in size, and they were busy. Service was meh, a bit slow that I had to stand up and look for our server. She treated other tables much more personable. We ordered the grouper mine was grilled and way under cooked and very salty. I question if it was truly grouper. On our final night in Pensacola, we chose to eat at The Oar House. I loved the logo, the location was close to where we were staying & we'd heard others talk about the restaurant. We had high hopes that the food would be great since the service & atmosphere were! Our hopes were dashed upon the arrival of our appetizer and entree at the same time. The Sriracha Shrimp Dip was mealy, and tasted like it was full of flour. If they'd baked it, it may have made decent bread. We got the Grilled Shrimp entree to split with broccoli & slaw. Everything was inedible. The broccoli was unseasoned mush. It seemed old, colorless & reheated. The shrimp were small, undercooked salt vats that we decided not to attempt after tasting them. The slaw was also flavorless & room temperature. We wrapped up all of our food & promptly threw it away once we got to our rental. Service gets 5 stars, atmosphere 5 stars, food is 1 star only because I could not give it a 0. Better luck next time, I guess. read more

Well, here we go again Pensacola! Another local place that just got marked off of our list PERMANENTLY! As it stands we are considering moving away just to find a city that has a food scene that isn't absolutely atrocious! I can't comment on the food this visit because it never got that far. Over the years we have gone here probably an average of four to five times per year. That isn't what you would call "regular" but we live north of town and we don't always venture that far. Our first interest in coming to Oar House years ago was to bring our dogs. We would bring them both, they would lay on the tall chairs on a towel and hang out. Our oldest dog recently passed and we brought our smaller chiweenie with us and everything was ok. Not Friday night July 18th! After we were sat and the waitress brought our drinks we got the dogs towel on the stool and he laid down and the waitress approached and said "my manager told me to tell you the dog cant be up on the chair!" I said "We have been here a bunch of times and it was never an issue?" And she said that he had to be on the ground or we couldn't stay. After I let that sink in I realized we had to go. I caught her and asked her to bring me the check because we had brought our dogs there for years and never had an issue. Our dog is an older dog and putting him on the ground isn't something we can do, he is scared of other dogs and he just lies next to us on the chair. See the picture attached to see how much trouble this animal was causing. As I paid the check I realized how many times we had come there and dropped $200, or how I brought family from out of town and dropped $400, or how I would bring business clients for a group lunch and spent $300 on just drinks and appetizers. And how this would be the very last time I would ever walk into that place. I called my family and told them how it was handled and they all said the Oar House is the "No More" House for us. I looked behind us and there was a table with a big dog and the dogs head was resting on the table. Other dogs at the bar were walking up to people, at eye level, sitting at tables around them. I think the worst part about this is how the "management" handled it. I owned a restaurant in the past and I would have handled it as an owner/manager, and not told the waitress to do your dirty work. And the funny part is that they were not busy at all. The approach was so poorly done that my attitude towards everything about this place, and their glorified "Captain D's" level garbage is one of complete and utter disdain. Let me be clear, this is NOT the first time we had issues here. Years ago we brought a dozen family members in to eat and drink, and after a two hour wait for our food I cancelled our entire meal and paid for the drinks and apps we had and left. You would have thought we learned our lesson ten years ago, but I assure our lesson was learned last night as we ate our $17.00 Taco Bell dinner watching a movie with a smile on our faces! read more
