You know when you get to that point with your hair when you can't stand another day of looking at your regrowth and just need a highlight right that moment? That happened to me yesterday when I was in Lawrence on a business trip. I didn't think I'd stand a prayer of calling up for a partial foil and cut for 6pm that night anywhere, but after calling a few other salons, and explaining my dire straights, I called Fix and they said - of course, no problem. Michaela was simply lovely. She was incredibly attentive to match my exact colors and ended up working until 9:00pm on my hair when the salon should have closed at 8. The color is beautiful, and I left feeling 100% times better than when I walked in. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Not to mention I had a partial foil, cut, and purchased $60 worth of products and the total came to $154!! Now that beats cuts I've had in Boston, SF and London. read more

The longest mani-pedi ever. 3 hours is just plain craziness. My niece asked for flowers on her ring finger & they opted for a jewel instead (easier). Unfortunately it didn't even last through dinner since no topcoat was put on. While I understand people are new & have a learning curve - you honestly just don't do that to "paying full price" customers. First time at salon for a haircut and definitely my last!! I told the stylist specifically how I wanted my hair cut and once she was done it was uneven by an inch. She did not check the cut once she was done. I called to talk to the manager and the assistant manager was the one who cut my hair. After I declined to go back in for a fix I received attitude and simply stated I just wanted to let them know of the hair cut. They said thanks and hung up on me. Overall very happy with the experience. It's a very small, casual, friendly atmosphere. Both manicures and pedicures were fairly basic but the acrylics are good quality while not taking an extremely long time to apply. Technicians were very helpful and wanted to make the experience a good time. For my toes they didn't have quite the colour I was looking for so my tech did her best to make a colour similar to what I was hoping for. I paid $70 for a full set + a pedicure which I was pleasantly surprised about. The only complaint was that the services were fairly basic, if they included a little more of a massage they would have 5 stars. Great little place though. read more

The Fix is my go-to salon. They do everything, from manicures to massages. The hairstylists are friendly and their cuts are amazing. Walk-ins are welcome and their services are affordable. When I worked downtown I used to go only once or twice a year but now I can afford to go more often and I will drive all the way down from the western suburbs to go here. read more

I am from Kansas City, and had yet to find a new salon in Lawrence. Not having the time to take half a day off for my usual cut and color appointment back home, I decided to give The Fix Salon a chance. The fact that it had fairly positive reviews and was located downtown seemed promising, so on a whim I decided to walk in and see if they had anyone available to trim my hair. When I entered I was greeted by an older woman behind the desk, who I take it was the owner, and she herself offered to cut my hair right away as the only stylist in the salon was busy with another customer. She assured me that she had many years of experience cutting hair, but to play it safe I explained to her that all I wanted was a trim, nothing drastic. I already had face framing layers, and simply wanted my hair to be cleaned up a bit as it had been a few months since my last trim. While she cut my hair, she stopped and left multiple times to answer the phone. At one point she had the one other stylist at the salon come over and finish me off by styling my hair for her. I thought this seemed a bit unprofessional but since I was a walk-in I just let it go. The quality of cut that I received at this salon is comparable to what I would expect walking in to a great clips or a hair school. I now have choppy layers that are much shorter than I wanted. My hair does not even look smooth when straight, because these new layers add an almost shag-like effect. This was not really noticeable while my hair was being cut because it was wet at that point. I asked for my hair to be styled in loose waves. I didn't like how my hair looked when I paid and left the salon, but I attributed it to the way the other hairdresser had styled it, which didn't really match what I usually see on other women or what I receive when I ask for loose waves at other salons. After washing and styling it again myself at home, I realized that I had made a big mistake in trusting this salon. I only wasted about $40 or so, but what is most disappointing is that this will take months to grow out. I didn't even bother calling the salon to express my disappointment in the service they provided, because I would not even trust them to cut my hair again to fix this as it would probably just make it even worse. read more

My highlights turned out pretty cute. I wasn't sure what I really wanted, I just knew I wanted something different. Bri was really helpful in giving me some ideas to choose from. Went in the other day to get a partial highlight, cut and style and had Sam for my stylist. She did a really great job. The highlights are well blended and look very natural. My only big issue was that she took a really really long time, I was there for 3 hours, but it took that long because she was perfectionist when coming up with the color. You could tell she really took her time to mix the right colors. A great mid-range salon and I would recommend to all my friends. I will for sure be back. read more

I had a walk-in appointment because I was desperate for a hair cut. I walked out with what I paid for.. a $20 hair cut which was chopped and uneven. My stylist had no idea what she was doing even though I have fine, straight hair and just wanted a trim. Would not recommend their walk-in appointments. read more

I had called in for a appointments and the lady one the phone said yes we can fit you in and it will only be 25 dollars pulse tax and when I went to pay she said theres been a mistake and its 30 so I paid more than what I was told. Then who's ever name will not be said cut my hair and did a Horrible job and was very rude I said just do layers only a inch off she cut 3 inches off and made my layers all uneven .The salon i next went to she had said that this was the worst cut she had seen! Fabulous! I had a wonderful experience at The Fix. I had gone to another salon for a subtle ombre effect- or so I thought. A very long and expensive story short, I had streaky highlights that went way too far up and were pretty much my worst nightmare. I called in to the Fix and got an appointment the next day. My stylist was Sue, and she did a wonderful job. I was hesitant at first, but the end result was dynamite. Sue and the owner, who was working the front, discussed how best to apply the colors and which colors would be best to fix my atrocity of a hair color. They were both extremely knowledgable, and listened to everything I wanted. I'm so glad I went to The Fix! I will definitely be back! read more

I've been coming here for cuts and color for awhile now and it is by far and away the best place I've ever been to as far as dye jobs. Kayla is awesome and puts a lot of effort into working with you to achieve what you want. I've never walked out of here disappointed. I went here for a walk in eyebrow wax, and while the price is right and they were able to fit me in, the esthetician did a pretty poor job. My eyebrows were uneven and there were stray hairs. I can only imagine what her hair cuts are like...... read more

The first time they applied the wrong color on my hair. The 2nd time I wanted a tan and the girl did not applied the spray evenly . My feet and hands were whiter than my face and arms. The 3rd time I wanted braids. I went to the salon two days earlier to ask if they have any girls that knows how to do braids and they told me yes. The day of my appointment this girl had no idea how to work with my hair and the entire time she felt overwhelm because she couldn't get the style of braids I wanted. I asked the same girl to applied some eye lashes and she ruined putting to much glue on it. Not only she did a terrible job with my hair but also ruined my eye lashes. All those time I got charge for shitty work. SHAME ON ME for going back after the first time. I suggest going to a real salon instead of wasting for money in non-profesionals. read more

I would not recommend this place. I just got a cut and style. I think the hair dresser pulled out more hair than she cut when she brushed it. My bangs aren't even and my hair looks blah. My shirt is still wet and she almost poked me in the eye with her scissors. I felt bad for the girl because I think she did the best she could and she was nice, so I bumped up the rating to two stars. I got Cierra. I gave her a simple request: to take an inch off my hair and to leave the shape the same. Apparently, this is a really difficult task, because she took off about a half an inch except in one spot in the front, which she made shorter than the rest of my hair. I need to schedule another haircut somewhere else to fix what she did. read more

I was very disappointed with my haircut. I went in to get a basic male haircut. I felt like the stylist who cut my hair was very inexperienced with male haircuts. The hair on top left side of my head is almost an inch longer than the top right side of my head! The customer service is great and all, but she did such a bad job on my haircut. I will never go back! I've had one cut that I loved, one cut that I hated, and this time I didn't even get a cut! The stylist was 35 minutes behind and took a smoke break. I finally left because I was pressed for time and there was no way that there was enough time to get my hair done. The customer service was poor. The two times I have gotten my hair cut there the stylist reeked of cigarettes, which was disgusting. I've been to two different stylists at the fix over several appointments and have never received exactly what I wanted. The extra services I have received, like highlights, have been fantastic but their haircuts are severely lacking. My last haircut is so choppy the back of my head looks tiered like a christmas tree because the stylist got into a hurry over her next appt. and didn't blend. Other experiences with the fix include not getting the haircut I requested despite showing pictures and being very clear in describing what I want. The prices here are very affordable but you'd be better off spending more and getting a cut that doesn't look like it was done by a two year old with dull scissors. read more

Im an international student who came to Kansas with normal, natural looking blonde highlighted hair. I gave the stylist my colours that my hairdresser uses at home, and explained how i wanted my hair. She told me that they used similar colours, but instead she just dumped a load of bleach on my hair, and as a result it was 2 different colours from white blonde at the top to a natural blonde underneath and it looked yellow overall. I then had to spend even more money getting my hairdresser at home to fix it. Never will go there again or recommend it, I am still in the process of getting my hair back to normal. read more
