I had used this business numerous times over the years. The online address shows them to be located at Southdale as they always were. I found no business at their previous location & no "we moved" sign. No map or roster of stores in Southdale lists their location. I called them but they didn't answer. I wandered around Southdale for awhile only to end up leaving. Whether this is the fault of Southdale or The Fixery doesn't matter. I won't go back. read more

I took a watch there spring 2020. Had to wait outside as this was at the height of co-vid so there was a limit as to how many customers could be in the store at the same time. The young fellow at the counter was able to figure out what was wrong with my watch. I was going to stop by there today (5/7/2024) to bring the same watch in. However, there is now a salon in that space. When I googled The Fixery, one of the hits said it was permanently closed. Also, I just called the # (651-690-5524) listed for it and got a message saying the # was disconnected. Per Google, there also was a location in Edina which is closed. read more

If I could give The Fixery more than five stars I would. This is the place to go for watch bands, batteries, clock repairs etc. They also sell watches. The staff know what they are doing, which isn't all that common these days and prices are very reasonable. The staff are also friendly and welcoming. They once had locations at the old Calhoun Square (don't know what its new name will be ), Southdale, and their current St Paul location. Now only St Paul remains. They are located on Cleveland about one half block north of Ford Parkway. On street parking in front of the store is hard to find but there is plenty available on nearby side streets. I highly recommend this watch repair shop. These shops are far and few now as these tradesmen start to retire and not many young people are taking over such skills. Not necessarily a get rich career path I am guessing. When my designer watch needed a new battery, I had a hard time finding a repair shop that would replace it. I was referred to the jewelry section of Macy's or Nordstrom's, but those places are such cut throat and they have the worst customer service and business hours. Also, I am not sure if these places know what they are doing. They contract out their work, sends them to another repair shop, charge an arm and leg and then call it a legitimate business. That is why I was so relieved to find the Finery who did a fantastic job for a reasonable price. The guy who helped me was the sole person I see every time I go there so I am not sure if he is the owner but he is very friendly. $14 for a battery replacement that took 5 minutes to put in. $24 for fixing the arm on watch and I got it back in a week. Not bad at all. Their hours are normal for people like me who has to work. It is located in Highland Park. Lots of 1 hour free street parking available. read more

I stepped out of The Fixery today and felt as though I was in Small Town USA 1950-in a good way. Super fast service by a very nice man and the price-egads! Cheap My 8yo son's watch is brand new. Not to mention it's his 2nd watch in about 6 months, but we won't get into how crazy digital watches are made these days. Anyway, "someone" stepped on his watch and the tiny plastic clasp broke. I would give the Fixery 10 Stars based on Integrity alone. I am traveling thru St Paul from Seattle area and do not have any experience with local St Paul businesses. My daughter sent me to the Fixery as a local neighborhood business but she had not been there either. On my first visit I asked for two batteries for key fobs. The gentleman said he could sell them to me for $10. each but his are optimized for watches that constantly supply energy. A key fob only requires batteries that draw a shot of energy now and then. He sent me to Walgreen's and I got two batteries for the $10.00. For my second visit to the Fixery, I took in my daughter's Howard Miller mantle clock that had not run for two+ years. The problem was how the chimes operated and interfered with the time mechanism. The gentleman put it on the counter, wound everything up, opened the back, diagnosed the issue and gave instructions on how to keep the clock successfully operating. All at no charge for his time and expertise. St Paul you have a gem of a business in the Fixery with great integrity. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! read more

I was glad when I found The Fixery because I wanted to support a local business and not have my watch sent away by one of the bigger jewelry stores. Unfortunately, the new battery lasted less than a year, and when I took my watch in to a different store I learned that the battery cannot be replaced because the repair guy at The Fixery had destroyed the place where the watch is opened by scratching it with his tools. I now have to send it to Coach to see if they can replace the back with a new part. If you have a cheap watch that you want handled quickly and for a little money then this is your place, but take caution if you have a timepiece you care about. read more

The problem: an antique shelf clock from my late grandmother has a chime rod broken. The complication: chime rods (especially old ones) are so specifically calibrated to one another that the entire set must be replaced. The worry: this watch repair shop in the middle of Highland Park, across from the R.F. Moeller / Rolex dealer on Cleveland Ave and Ford Pkwy, would overcharge and laugh me out the door. The surprise: unpretentious man in jeans and beard whom I immediately trust like a doctor quotes me far lower than I think is fair to him, and without even seeing the clock. The dude here was very knowledgable and straight up. My watch has a solar charger on the screen however the low signal kept flashing like I needed to replace the battery. I took it in to the shop only to find out that all I needed to do is to let it sit by the window in the sun and the battery will recharge. Due to our MN weather my watch gets covered up not allowing the face to get enough light for a charge but this shop led me down the right path. Don't go here to have watch batteries replaced unless your watch is worth more than $10 (the cost of the service). We all know it's cheaper to buy a new watch at Walmart than have the battery replaced. But while I had Swiss watches happily changed out for some years at The Fixery, one day I went there and an obviously junior employee who was being trained replaced the battery in my watch after a lengthy wait and the watch soon went dead again. Did they mistakenly use an already dead battery, installing it in my watch? Wrong battery? Not happy about training someone on my dime. And I'm not sure why they retire behind a screen, what does that mean? read more

DO NOT GET YOUR WATCH BATTERY REPLACED HERE. THEY WILL SCUFF YOUR WATCH AND NOT ADMIT IT. Called this place today to see how much a battery replacement was. I actually accidentally said "battery repair" and the guy sarcastically pointed out that they do replacement and "battery repair" wasn't possible. I don't mind people joking around but this guy definitely said it in a rude way, not a joke way. Even so, I stop in an hour later and he takes it behind a partition to replace it. The place was small and a little dingy and didn't have a lot of inventory (and what was there was pretty ugly). It only took about 2 minutes, which was nice. But he brought it out and it had a large scuff on the back. He says $12.86 (which I thought was a little high but I like to support small business, and I was in a hurry to get this done today) and prints the receipt. I don't sign the receipt. I point out the large scuff and ask, "does this normally happen when replacing the battery? That's a pretty big scuff." He says, "that is most likely the handiwork of an amateur. I suspect someone tried to get the back off in the wrong place." Then he tried to explain to me why he did the right way. I told him, "no, this was definitely not here before I brought this in to you. This is a new watch and the battery has never been replaced." He just pushes the receipt closer to me with the pen. He just wanted me to sign it and get out. I think he might have mumbled or said something without admitting he scratched the watch. He DID scratch it and then tried to play it off like he didn't! Then I gave him a chance to apologize and he DIDN'T. He just said he could polish it out but that would take a couple days. He was rude throughout the exchange. I'll keep it short, Mark told me to go get an OEM watch face and bring it back to him to install on my watch for $20 labor. 2 weeks later I did just that and ran into a grumpy old man working there. He claimed Mark didn't know what he was talking about. (why does he work there then???) The grumpy old man proceeded to tell me that "I would not be as smiley as I (was) if he attempted to change the watch face." WOW! its not worth it to him to change it for $20. "He could screw something up." He then told me he could change a battery for $10. Seriously folks go to wallyworld where they will change your battery for free. This place was a total waste of time and gas, and the owner is a jerk. They will be out of biz soon with rude behavior like that. read more

Have had battery's changed here on a few watches and talked about a few repairs. Owner dissed my watch choices (?!) essentially telling me Seiko Chronograph was crap, Vintage Bulova Accutron was junk, classic Tissot was garbage. I wonder what kind of watch he does like? All these watches are in good working order so ?? That's kind of a weird attitude. Also he bent the hell out of the Stainless Steel Band on my Seiko Railroad changing the battery. If he had removed it rather than shoving it out of the way (simply removed the band pin) this wouldn't have happened. On a different fully water proof watch I swim with he was not careful with the gasket and looked at me with disdain when I asked him to make sure when the battery was changed that the gasket was OK. It wasn't ok but he didn't seem to think that mattered. I had to go elsewhere to find that out after the watch fogged. Watch is OK but it might not have been had I actually swam in it rather than just showered.. The thing is, for the price he charges (the markup on the battery) more care is in order. Maybe I have just caught him at bad moments, but he seems like he is tired of his occupation. I think there are better more careful and comparably priced places to get your watch attended to. read more

They damage watches. No attention to detail. Avoid this place! I brought my YEMA Transantarctic Navigational watch (rather rare and collectable) in for a new battery a few years ago and had a couple of big issues with them: 1) Instead of removing the screwed in pins on the lugs to take the practically irreplaceable original Yema 1-piece Kevlar strap off, they just scrunched it together to slide it through the lugs. Despite being Kevlar, these are really prone to damage and fraying and absolutely cannot be treated that way. 2) They left a big fingerprint on the inside of the watch crystal. And this can't be cleaned off without opening the watch *again* which, if you are familiar with this particular rare watch, is not to be undertaken lightly. I also brought an old mechanical military watch in for a new crystal. They replaced the crystal, but left a few big gouges in the bezel of the watch from crystal lift tool they used. Seriously, this was scratched all the way though the olive drab enamel paint right down to bare metal! The one and only good experience I had with them was when I had a couple of links removed from a metal band. Bottom line: if you have a collectable or valuable watch, don't trust these guys with it. If you need a simple repair done on a cheap watch you don't particularly care about, they might be able to handle it. For anything more, go somewhere else. read more

Once, I went to have a repair done and came up almost a dollar short when it was time to pay. The old man, seeing my panic, assured me it was okay and gave me my fixed watch. For years I have trusted the service here for basic wristwatch maintenance. Recently we took in a German "anniversary (400 day) clock" that had been in the family for a long time but had not kept time or even run for quite a while. It now runs and keeps very good time. It is gratifying that in this age of time supplied by internet, quartz, or radio signal, that skilled clock and watch repair still exists. I highly recommend the service here. And I do not consider it overkill to have people with this level of skill replace watch batteries, when one considers how much damage can be done to a wristwatch at a department store or even a jewelry store. read more

Right. Let's talk turkey about this place. Recently, I took two quartz, analog watches to the Fixery in Highland for new batteries. Service was attentive and quick but when I got home I found that the back on one watch was not even screwed down finger tight. 2 weeks later, I found that the other watch was fitted with an incorrect battery. In total, $20 worth of incompetence. But I would like to thank The "Fixery" for the motivation to find out where I can get batteries for $0.59, change them myself with a $15 tool and to find a fascinating new hobby in watch repair and modification. read more
