Stopped in for a bite after reviewing the menu. The food was truly authentic coconut rice with beans and Sofrito along with beef was absolutely the way to go! They have seating inside and some seating outside if you prefer. The food was absolutely delicious. Definitely a small treasure worth searching for. A sweet older man was the one providing service serving our food and providing descriptions. The space is not a super fancy, but it's definitely a must if you truly would like a delicious meal.

Loved this spot in downtown st Pete. The owner was super welcoming and gave us great recommendations. The beef was amazing and super tender, the plantains were delicious, and the serving sizes were actually quite large.

They let us sample the meat selection and they were all so good! Went with the paprika chicken and the coconut rice, sweet potatoes, and guacamole for the sides. The miso curry sauce is amazing! The staff were also so kind! We got it to go, as it was hot inside. Entire place is gluten free, except for the Cuban sandwich!

We stopped by towards the end of the night and were able to order and get our food immediately. The cashier was nice and friendly and inside was clean. I got the Island Umami Bowl which was really good and had a lot of flavor! The highlights were the chipotle sweet potatoes and the sweet plantains. They were really tender and had amazing flavors. The chicken was okay mainly due to the texture being a bit dry. I figured it was in the pot all day but it could have been more tender/moist. I also opted to switch sauces and got the Jerk Sauce which was absolutely delicious!

Our friends took us to St. Pete's and recommended The Floribbean for dinner. After a quick glance at their online menu, I was excited to check out their jackfruit. Walking into the place for the first time, I became an instant fan of the island vibe atmosphere. A man, who may have been the owner, greeted us right away. He was friendly, great humor, and fun to talk to. Sadly, he shared with me that he removed jackfruit off the menu because it wasn't very popular so he suggested I get the Curry Tofu which is made with coconut milk. I like that the menu clearly marks all vegan options. Ordering is easy. I picked Gandules (pigeon peas with tamari and brown sugar), Curtido Slaw, and Chipotle Sweet Potatoes for my 3 sides. I had the Jerk Aioli for the sauce. This bowl also comes with a small garnish of crispy plantains. Every single element of my bowl was so wonderfully flavorful in their own way and I legit made "mmm yum" noises with each bite, raving about how good the food is. I don't have a lot of experience with Caribbean food so this was my first time having gandules and jerk aioli. BTW, while I loved the jerk aioli, I really didn't need it because the food is tasty on its own. https://bit.ly/4hW6iw6 This is one of those restaurants that I will absolutely make time for the next time I'm in the area. 5-stars!!!

We enjoyed the food at The Floribbean and service was friendly. It was a bit pricy for the portion size but the sides were very varied and meat was cooked well. The beef was delicious but quite oily. The lime aioli was to die for!

No frills build your own bowl type of place or choose from the menu. They serve it right in front of you. Everything was flavorful and so good! I would say the cleanliness/orderliness is a bit unusual. The ingredients look slopped everywhere in uncovered containers. However, everyone was friendly and the food was good. I'll be returning.

So good! Amazing, helpful people with the most delicious food. You won't find anywhere else like this place.

After a few drinks at 3 Daughters, we were getting a little hungry so we decided to take a short walk to the Floribbean. Here's my take on the experience: Quality of food: Good. You get to pick 3 sides to make a bowl or you can go with their signature bowls. We tried two of their signature bowls: Island Umami and the Yardbird. The Island Umami comes with smoked paprika chicken, coconut rice, chipotle sweet potatoes, sweet plantains, and miso sauce. The Yardbird has basically the same ingredients except for black beans instead of sweet potatoes and Jerk aioli instead of miso sauce. Both bowls were absolutely bursting with flavors and the portion size was huge! I would suggest splitting a bowl with someone next time especially because that coconut rice is super filling. Décor: kinda cool but could use more. They had a couple of little hula girl decorations made out of coconut. There wasn't much besides that other than the tables were also colorful. Cleanliness: okay. The tables were being kept mostly clean. Service: okay. The person taking the order was also the one that would create your bowl. They only had two people working on a Saturday night and both looked super tired and stressed. Price: reasonable. The bowls cost around $12 but the portion size is huge. If you're up for some healthy-ish food that's a little different than the usual then checkout The Floribbean.

Great restaurant near downtown! I was craving something healthy and that was open around 11am on a Monday and this place popped up on my google search. The restaurant is fairly large on the inside. I was greeted by the staff member there who went over the menu with me. Menu is pretty simple to understand and full of different food items you can mix and match within a bowl. I decided to go with the yardbird but instead of getting coconut rice I substituted it with brown rice. It had smoked paprika chicken, plantains, brown rice, ginger black beans and jerk aioli. The staff are generous and gave you a liberal amount of protein compared to similar style chains like chipotle for example but you are paying about $4 more. The flavors were magnificent! It was extremely delicious but I'm not sure if it fits the healthy food category but definitely don't mistake it for junk food. Overall great join with plenty of space and great staff. Food is also delicious! Will definitely come back again.

Veggie bowl with coconut rice, ginger lime black beans, plantains, salsa, and lime crema

Oh my gosh this food was delicious! I love a good bowl, and this one did not disappoint. The coconut rice was so flavorful and soft, the beans had a good ginger taste to them, the plantains were cooked perfectly, and the salsa had a great flavor. There were so many other options as well, so I'll have to come back to try them! The cashiers were very kind and quick, and the ambiance is pretty nice with plenty of seating. I will definitely be coming back!

Fantastic food; the option to pick your sides and protein is fantastic. Great prices for quality food and flavor.

Tonight was one of those--with just a little salt in the air and a soft island rhythm tapping its foot in the background. I sat down at Pepo's and was served a plate of roasted pork resting there like it knew it belonged--tender, patient, and full of purpose--laid over a bed of warm yellow rice. There were chopped white onions scattered about, honest and bright, alongside black beans that tasted like they'd been simmering all afternoon without a single worry in the world. And then there was the yucca. Not firm or stubborn--no sir. It had been cooked long enough to give up its starch and relax a bit, turning soft and generous, almost like stewed potatoes that had wandered too close to butter and garlic and decided to stay awhile. Comforting in that slow, unhurried way... the kind that makes you lean back in your chair and exhale. But it was that pork... well, that pork had a story. A quiet one. The gentle punch of Cuban mojo--sour oranges and garlic shaking hands just right--bringing along sunshine, music, and that unmistakable feeling that you're exactly where you're supposed to be. Not flashy. Just honest. Like a good song played at the right volume. Truth be told, the meal was so good that before I left, I ordered a Cuban sandwich to go, along with a Cuban tamale--already looking forward to lunch tomorrow while flying back toward the Northeast, tracing the Florida coastline below. I imagine it'll taste just as good at altitude, maybe even better, with a little daydreaming and a smile. You know, meals like this don't just feed you. They put you at ease. And I can tell you this much--I'll be back one day. Because when food makes you feel this welcome, you don't forget it. You just carry it with you... maybe humming a tune as you go.

We stopped in for breakfast at Azucar on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend after seeing a piece about them on "I Love St Pete." What got me excited to try them specifically was their seeming focus on street food items like croquetas, papas rellenas, and empanadas--while some Cuban food spots on this side of Tampa Bay like La Segunda or Bodega have Cuban Sandwiches and empanadas covered, not everyone does croquetas. Now, for someone like me, who grew up on those deep-fried, ham-filled, finger food-sized bits of goodness, that's just a crime, so I welcome any Cuban/Latin American joint to the area who serves them as long as they do them right. Let me assure any other croquetas fan reading this that Azucar DOES do them right, and a whole lot more! A few things to note before you go. Azucar is located in a tiny space next to the Wheelhouse on Central Ave--they took over the space previous occupied by Ohio Pizza Pie. Their business at the moment is mostly pick-up and carry out because they have VERY limited seating on site--basically a few tables and stools to accommodate patrons waiting on their to-go orders. Not to worry, though. Aside from calling in your order and picking it up, Azucar also utilizes GrubHub and Door Dash, so delivery is an option, too. Also, note their business hours. Azucar is open daily 8am-5pm, so they're targeting the breakfast and lunch market in the area. That means it's just about perfect for getting your cafe con Leche or cortadito first thing in the morning along with a breakfast empanada or tostada. That brings me finally to the food. Almost everything Mel and I tried that morning was delicious. The croquetas--obviously the first thing I tried--were perfect. Their ground ham filling was flavorful and reminded me of mornings with my dad in Hialeah, eating from corner cafes and walk-up spots. The breakfast empanadas also were excellent. Made from house made dough and filled with scrambled eggs, mozzarella cheese, and sausage, they have great flavor on their own, but be sure to try them with the dipping sauces they have to offer. If I have to be truly critical of anything, it was the papa rellena we ordered. The mashed potato stuffing needed some seasoning and the picadillo at the center, while flavorful, wasn't fully heated through. Little things that I'm sure will be corrected by the next time we order from them, which will be soon! Oh, and let me just say this: do NOT leave without ordering the Dulce de Leche empanadas. They're served up piping hot, covered with powdered sugar with Dulce de Leche caramel dripping out after every drop. Amazing stuff!

This morning, we were served what can only be described as tepid, stale, weak coffee--at a staggering $15 for two cups. It wasn't just disappointing; it was borderline offensive to call it Cuban coffee. True Cuban coffee is bold, rich, dark, and unmistakably strong. What we received was the opposite: a pale gray liquid with a suspicious, artificial flavor, as if something had been added to mask its age or poor quality. Temperature? Lukewarm. Strength? Nearly nonexistent. Authenticity? Zero. If you're expecting a proper Cuban coffee experience, this is not the place. It misses the mark on every level. For anyone in Gulfport who actually wants real Cuban coffee, go to Pipos in St Pete; it's worth the drive. Their coffee is exactly what it should be--strong, flavorful, and authentic. No comparison. Havana Cafe should either fix their coffee immediately or stop advertising it as Cuban. As it stands, it's overpriced and deeply disappointing.

The music upon entry was Latin classic and exactly what you'd want a spot like this. My friend and I split the Pork Sandwich which is usually my choice and he got the Palomilla Steak. We asked for some extra on the side and that helped make the sandwiches taste a little less dry. You gotta love mojo to come to a Cuban restaurant!
