First and last try. This is a restaurant that is fortunate to not have any legit Cuban food competition in the neighborhood. As the only one in the area they have successfully managed to fake it and get away with it. Place was busy, but not with Latins. Note all entrees are served with white rice, black beans, fried sweet plantains, and Cuban bread. The good is the lechón asado priced at $23, was good. The white rice is okay too. The sweet plantains were perfect. The Cuban bread was barely warmed up, and not flattened. Rushed to serve versus carefully preparing it was a concern. The black beans are edible but the taste is off. I couldn't place what ingredient they added to it, but the taste was distorted from legit flavorful Cuban black beans. My husband ordered the Bistec de Palomilla, Skirt Steak. It is served with chopped raw onions and a side of heavily oil based attempt of mojo. The quality of the steak was a huge disappointment for it was tough, burnt edges and was not properly marinated for it was tasteless. Unfortunately, we were not able to eat the steak. We ended up sharing my lechón dish. We ordered a half carafe of red Sangria and were surprised to find strawberries and blueberries in it. Not customary the fresh fruits used in a sangria. The inside of the restaurant consisted of a wall of bench tables, and several smaller tables in the center, plus upstairs loft seating, and a couple of outdoor tables too. About 10 parking spots offer limited parking. Servers were polite, slow, and forgetful. Unfortunately, it was a miss for us.

The food here is so bomb I got the Bistec de Palomilla I asked for Tostones instead of regular plantains and they fulfilled my request. They also asked if I wanted anything else. They were very friendly, I definitely felt at home here. Even while I came to get some food to-go they made the experience one I'll never forget. I'll definitely come here again! I live around the area and that was my first time there and I absolutely loved it the food the service everything was a 10 out of 10!

A wonderful place to visit. The service is excellent, the deco and vibes give you a Cuba feel. The food portion is generous and tastes great.

I have been here many times and never disappointed. I always get the camarones ajillo which is shrimp dunked in butter, white wine and other deliciousness. My daughter got the Cuban which is a good portion size and one of the best Cubans I have eaten. My husband got the filete de pescado a la pirrilla which never disappoints. If the main entree is not good enough, they include their delicious black beans, white rice and plantains. This occasion was extra special because it was my husband's birthday, so they included a flan with a candle and sang happy birthday. If you want to feel like you are in Cuba or at least on vacation, check out this place. The staff is always friendly; the food is delicious, and the sangria is a must have. Just be aware their parking lot is slim and is a little hard to get out and in.

Wonderful food. Everything was absolutely delicious. We started with a Spanish salad and Guantanimo shrimp and red sangria. Entrees were picadillo and lenchon asada - Perfection. The sides of plantains and black beans were so good! The best part was our server Jason. He was amazing! So warm and friendly - truly a pro and his love of the job and the area shows! He's a gem. Thanks for a great meal experience!

This place should not be called cuban! Food had no taste and very slim. The cuban sandwich was bread on bread on the ends, nothing of what you would expect of a cuban sandwich. I got the steak sandwich which was also disappointing, the meat and bread were dry and barely had some onions on it. The grilled fished had hair on it. Ambience also not inviting. I don't think anyone that works here is actually Cuban, definitely not the chef. Very disappointed for a Saturday dinner.

This place is a gem! The yellow golden sangria was beautiful and super refreshing. I highly recommend the flan cheesecake, it blew me away! Wish I could take a full cake with me

5402 Gulfport Blvd. S Gulfport, FL 33707 Hours are: Mon-Sat: 11am-9pm CLOSED SUNDAYS Saturday, Jan. 7, 2023 Greeted by Friendly Staff Establishment Clean / Comfortable Interior Temperature No Line / No Waiting at This Time Server was friendly, helpful & knowledgeable about food being offered. Husband ordered the Famous Lechon Asada Oriente Region Style Pork, roasted and seasoned to perfection with fresh garlic, oregano, white wine and laurel leaves, topped WITHOUT the grilled onions. His preference. I ordered the same thing except with the onions. It was amazing. Every bite flavorful with the traditional taste of Cuba. It comes with Cuban bread. It arrived just before our entrees. Hot, buttery and lightly crispy and tender inside. We got seconds. Food arrived hot & delicious. Drinks kept filled. New to the area and this was our first visit. Can't wait to go back and try their Cuban sandwich.

Empty at 12:30 on a Saturday?! Could not just drive past - had to stop for some Cuban deliciousness!!

Have been here a few times pre-COVID, but apparently never reviewed it? The food now is just as amazing and flavorful as it was before all the craziness. I'm happy they are surviving - and happy to contribute to that effort. If you haven't been here, come!! If you have, get back here and take advantage of their availability. The place is sparkling clean - and they are constantly cleaning - even when I was the only customer here!! Service is great still - and I took a few desserts to go. Get out. Spend money. Support l

Always a good Cuban meal at Habana Cafe. Been dinning here for years. Pork, shrimp, chicken. It's all good. And don't forget some flan for dessert.

Had high hopes but this place is below average. Had a shrimp appetizer which was ok and a fish dinner that was edible but had zero wow factor. Overpriced too for a 1/4 piece of fish (19.95) which was tilapia. Ugh! I've had an entire grouper fish for nearly the same price. Do check your bill. I was charged for a drink I never had. I'm sure none of the seafood was fresh; most likely frozen. We won't go back ever. P.S. After reading other reviews, I too got charged a fee for using my credit card.

We stopped in for breakfast at Azucar on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend after seeing a piece about them on "I Love St Pete." What got me excited to try them specifically was their seeming focus on street food items like croquetas, papas rellenas, and empanadas--while some Cuban food spots on this side of Tampa Bay like La Segunda or Bodega have Cuban Sandwiches and empanadas covered, not everyone does croquetas. Now, for someone like me, who grew up on those deep-fried, ham-filled, finger food-sized bits of goodness, that's just a crime, so I welcome any Cuban/Latin American joint to the area who serves them as long as they do them right. Let me assure any other croquetas fan reading this that Azucar DOES do them right, and a whole lot more! A few things to note before you go. Azucar is located in a tiny space next to the Wheelhouse on Central Ave--they took over the space previous occupied by Ohio Pizza Pie. Their business at the moment is mostly pick-up and carry out because they have VERY limited seating on site--basically a few tables and stools to accommodate patrons waiting on their to-go orders. Not to worry, though. Aside from calling in your order and picking it up, Azucar also utilizes GrubHub and Door Dash, so delivery is an option, too. Also, note their business hours. Azucar is open daily 8am-5pm, so they're targeting the breakfast and lunch market in the area. That means it's just about perfect for getting your cafe con Leche or cortadito first thing in the morning along with a breakfast empanada or tostada. That brings me finally to the food. Almost everything Mel and I tried that morning was delicious. The croquetas--obviously the first thing I tried--were perfect. Their ground ham filling was flavorful and reminded me of mornings with my dad in Hialeah, eating from corner cafes and walk-up spots. The breakfast empanadas also were excellent. Made from house made dough and filled with scrambled eggs, mozzarella cheese, and sausage, they have great flavor on their own, but be sure to try them with the dipping sauces they have to offer. If I have to be truly critical of anything, it was the papa rellena we ordered. The mashed potato stuffing needed some seasoning and the picadillo at the center, while flavorful, wasn't fully heated through. Little things that I'm sure will be corrected by the next time we order from them, which will be soon! Oh, and let me just say this: do NOT leave without ordering the Dulce de Leche empanadas. They're served up piping hot, covered with powdered sugar with Dulce de Leche caramel dripping out after every drop. Amazing stuff!

I noticed they were at one point awarded best of the bay which could just be locals supporting local businesses which is typically how that list goes, because I would definitely not vote this as the best Cuban sandwich. Cute little local shop with mostly outside covered seating and a couple inside two seaters. This is an order at the counter restaurant near treasure island/madeira beach. Great flavor but where is the pork? The meats were limited and the most important one very scarce. They also want $11 for just the sandwich. Was it the worst I've had? No. Was it authentic? Yes. Would i recommend this Cuban sandwich? Sadly, no. If it were half that price and you just wanted a cubano I would say yes. But if you are looking for a truly good cuban sandwich because you've never had one or are craving one, I would not send you here. Decent. But not great. Price too high especially for the lack of meat. For that I give 3 stars

The food, from the complimentary bread to the famous Cuban sandwich to the Tres Amigos Churros was exquisite. Every element clearly has thought put into it so that it flows together from the homemade plantain chips with the Cuban sandwich to the bread and the amount of mustard used. Nothing could improve anything that we had and I can't recommend the Cuban sandwich or the Tres Amigos highly enough! You have to try them for yourself. The prices are also quite reasonable. Sadly, it turned into one of the most disappointing dining experiences we've ever had. The restaurant is beautiful, full of history and stunning décor, and we were seated almost immediately. Unfortunately, that was the only positive part of the visit. Our menus were dropped on the table without a greeting, and for the next 25 minutes not a single server acknowledged us, even though we watched staff walk by repeatedly. We were also seated in full view of the men's restroom, with the constant sound of the door opening and toilets flushing. After being ignored for 25 minutes, I told my husband, "I guess no one is coming," and asked my nephew and grandsons if they wanted to leave. They all said yes, so we walked out disappointed, hungry, and let down. Such a beautiful, historic place deserves service that matches its reputation.
