Three of us tried this hopping restaurant. When you walk in it is crowded & emits a fun & authentic vibe. The food at other tables looks amazing! We apparently ordered the wrong dish, because our experience surely wasn't matching the experience of others. We each ordered a Cuban sandwich. I've had many of these at other restaurants & they have been so excellent. The Cuban here was really bad. Again though, I think the other food we saw at other tables would have made our experience a great one. Our Cuban sandwiches had the correct Cuban bread for sure. But the meat was not roast pork...it was truly like a piece of bologna...yikes! The filling was sparse & lacking flavor & truly disappointing. However, I'm going to return again & try something else, because as I mentioned, literally ALL the food at other tables looked excellent.

A very poor excuse of a cuban

I can't believe the reviews, so I must have (silly me) ordered the wrong thing. What did I get? Funny you ask. A CUBAN. The 2* are for the bread. The meat in the sandwich is delicious cuts you'd get at subway. The flavor has a unique taste, especially when you bite into a black peppercorn. Something tastes like Mexican inside a sauce. Skip the Cuban, it's kinda disgraceful and if I wasn't so hungry I'd have thrown it away (to go order).

Food was authentic The sauces provided were good. Service was fast and helpful for my first time there I definitely would go back to eat again in

Love this place for Mexican tacos & it's 30 sec from my job. Quick Covid update: The tables are distanced, there's stickers on the ground, and the staff has masks and gloves. Sanitizer by the door when you come in and the food is great family food. It's like mom's cooking was so good they opened a restaurant. Do yourself a favor and swing by for Taco tuesday.

Favorite Cuban and Mexican food in the Tampa Bay Area. Great customer service and menu. Tacos are a must, best I've ever had.

The breakfast burrito here is amazing and very large for the price. We came here looking for a good brunch and got exactly that.

Host was nice and friendly. He walked us to our tables and got our menus off the wall. Coffee serving was big. Food came out fast after we ordered our food. It's a small kind of like a local diner. Cost wise for each person's meal was not that expensive. It was home comfort food that hit the spot for us. The location alone makes it a convenient and easy choice if you're staying nearby or heading out for a morning walk along the beach. Breakfast was exactly what you hope for at a casual beachside café. We had coffee, an egg sandwich with bacon, and a Western omelet with cheese. Everything was cooked fresh and made to order, and it definitely hit the spot to start the day. Simple, satisfying breakfast food done well. The service was great--friendly, attentive, and welcoming without feeling rushed. It's the kind of place where the staff makes you feel comfortable right away. Another thing that stood out was the pricing. For a beach location, the prices are very fair, which makes it an even better value considering the quality of the food and the location. If you're looking for a relaxed, no-frills breakfast with good food, great service, and an awesome location near the beach, Beach Shanty Cafe is well worth stopping by.

She was so friendly and gave great recommendations. There were so many things to choose from that I couldn't make a decision. I ended up ordering the "I can't decide" platter. How funny this was really a thing! It was perfect and let me try a little of everything! The pancakes were fluffy and delicious. They are made from a fresh buttermilk batter made daily, not from the box! The biscuits and gravy were so yummy. The home fries were cooked perfect with a little crisp. My kids ordered the fish and chips and a burger. Everything was cooked to perfection and packed with flavor. The fish was flaky and fresh. The burger was juicy and a good size. We will definitely be back!

Literally thought that I might have been in heaven. We got the outdoor seating (why wouldn't you) and we had a great view of the water. The service was really good and they were hospitipal. The view of the water was really nice and there were birds flying above the water. I also liked the humor that they had. Hung all around the restaurant were funny signs that said things like "No one cares about your diet, just eat your salad and be sad" or "If I agreed with you then we would both be wrong" Even the menu was funny. It said "Maggies Rules: #1.) Be patient! This is Florida. we don't get in too much of a hurry over anything! #2.) If you are mean and grouchy, Maggie collects a $10 cover charge!!! Please identify yourself! #5.) Unattended children will be given an espresso, loads of sugar and a FREE puppy! (We forgot rules 3 & 4)" As you can tell they have a great sense of humor. Anyway, I would 100% recommend this even if you have to drive a few hours. IT WAS SO GOOD!!!!!!

The brussel sprouts appetizer is HUGE. It was double the size I have received at other places, so took some back to the hotel for leftovers. They also came with a tasty dipping sauce that was unique as well. The Caesar salad was neutral; no strong flavor yet not distasteful. No anchovies taste either. I could take it or leave it. The filet steak was tender served over some mashed potatoes and thick asparagus wrapped in salty, yummy bacon. The smoky old fashioned and expresso martini (with Baileys added extra!) drinks were tasty. Make a reservation online and Uber/Lyft if you are close as it's easy in and out!

We ended up splitting the seafood pasta dish, and it was more than either of us could eat, even after splitting it. Service was good for dinner. Martini was good, but the blue cheese stuffed olives were prepackaged from a jar. Breakfast blew us away. Every dish we had was great. I don't think you can go wrong. Breakfast pizza was surprisingly great and enough for two people to split. Service at breakfast was fantastic. The coffee was always flowing and the servers were always smiling. The atmosphere and ambience are OK. I don't love the vibe, as it felt like a dated dining room experience. But Food was still great. If you are staying at the Opal Sands, the entire complex has amazing food and you don't even have to leave. Huge benefit to staying there.
