When I got there there was only there was only one person working there and he said he had to make the order still. 30 minutes later I approached the counter and the person had completely forgotten my order. I was jazzed to try out this place on my last visit to Tampa. I love a Cuban sandwich. Also, it was a 5 minute walk from my hotel. I got there about 4 and there were only two other customers inside, already eating. I ordered the "finest Cuban sandwich on the planet" without mayo. They were having a bit of trouble with the credit card machine and the guy checking me out said "Nothing in this place works, including us". That was my sign. He got it fixed and my sandwich was made. I got back to my hotel, opened my sandwich, and it was cold. Like the bread was pressed and crunchy, but the meat was refrigerator cold and the cheese wasn't melted. It had never melted, you could see the holes in the swiss. As for the roasted pork, it barely made an appearance. It was a cold ham and pickle sandwich. A disappointment. Certainly not the finest. Would it have tasted better hot? Probably, I will never know. We visited on a Thursday afternoon and had no difficulty finding a table. I had their classic Cuban sandwich, while my wife had a salad. All of the food was good, though I wouldn't call the Cuban the best I've had -- it certainly met my expectations. The staff were great, friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, all of the empty tables were dirty from prior customers, so we sat at the cleanest and swept the crumbs to the side. No table cleaning occurred while we were there, though I will grant that the staff stayed pretty busy. Only half the tables had customers. It's hard to believe that this tiny little strip mall eating establishment that claims to have the best Cuban sandwiches really DOES have the best Cuban sandwiches (Well, the best I've tasted) I tried the Sandwich Combo (Choice of sandwich, side, and a fountain drink for $11.99 plus tax), choosing the Angry Cuban for my sandwich and fries for my side. It was just before closing and the counter lady apologized for not having any spicy dipping sauce for the fries, which was understandable. This sandwich was Angry indeed! Easily the best Cuban sandwich I've had. They got the spicy just right. The reason for only 4 stars: The tables were clean but all the condiments at my table were grubby, and some were even sticky. Most of their business seems to be carry out or delivery, they only have 6 or 7 tables. Obviously the tables are not high priority, but cleaning the table top while leaving the salt, pepper, mustard, and hot sauce dirty is just laziness IMO. It makes me wonder about the cleanliness of the entire restaurant. Next time I'll get my meal to go. A side issue: Being asked to tip up front is just wrong. You tip according to the service. Plus, I tip for table service NOT at a sandwich counter! That's like being asked to tip at the deli in the grocery store. I mean The Floridian used to be delicious, but I think this location needs a bit more TLC. The Cuban sandwich was still delicious, but the rice and beans were so mid. It used to be packed during lunch hours with a line out the door, but it was dead in there at 1pm on a weekday. Definitely recommend they try a new recipe for their rice and beans. My co-worker & I were moving our office again (2nd time this year if you're keeping track), and found ourselves starving mid-afternoon on a Thursday in May. As my colleague pointed out, one of the best things about working in Tampa is the endless Spanish food options! So we chose The Floridian for lunch on this day, and easily found parking right in front. I later noticed a rear entrance with a ton of parking behind the plaza. Once inside, we placed our order. We received our beverage cups, filled them and found a table. My chair had crumbs from a previous diner and I brushed them away. We sat for quite a while, and I watched two separate solo customers order & receive their food before ours was ready. This surprised me since it was around 2pm and not a super busy time for lunch. I'd added a tip, which I don't often do before service is complete, and noted that it didn't seem to affect efficiency. Slow service aside, our food was really good. I'd ordered the 5" Cuban combo with stuffed potatoes as my side, plus we added deviled crabs to share. Everything was hot & delicious. Note, my Cuban was pressed, and sans lettuce & tomato - exactly how I like it. My co-worker had chosen rice & beans as her side with the same Cuban combo, and she commented that she enjoyed her lunch as well. We will definitely be back! read more

Cuban sandwich and the Floridian Bean soup and a fountain drink. The soup is fantastic. Large bowl of it would be a meal in itself. The Cuban is maybe the best I've ever had. I got it with the works and that was just right. The perfect ratio of meats pickles and mayo/mustard is paired with hot Cuban bread that has a flaky crispness to the bite. I thought I would be carrying my order out but I was told to relax and take my time. I was full at a very reasonable price. We get the same meals every time-- for me the large Cuban combo, no end cut, heavy mustard and mayo mix, pressed hard, fries well done, pickle chips and large soft drink. Karen gets a large Cuban, normal mustard-mayo mix, no pickles and pressed normal with fried onion rings and a soft drink. Harold, the owner, also offers numerous soups. Thirty-plus years says it all. This place makes a fine Cuban sandwich on excellent bread. I saw that the local ABC said that the Floridian had one of the best Cuban sandwiches in Tampa, and since I was in the area, I dropped in to get their classic sandwich (well, classic minus the mayonnaise because that's not really classic, is it?) and a cafe con leche. The bread was from El Segundo, so it was great. And it was perfectly pressed. Everything else was perfectly fine but not great. Not a fan of the roast pork lunch meat when many/most local places will give real roasted pork. The price was also slightly higher than many of the other local places for a Cuban sandwich. The cafe con leche was fine but sweeter than I prefer. I went at a really random time (10am), so there was plenty of parking and no wait to place my order. I got my food to go, but everything inside the cafe looks clean and appropriately distanced. The ambiance is a little dark and dated. All in all, this place serves a perfectly decent Cuban sandwich, but I wouldn't call it one of the best of the city, and I wouldn't go out of my way to return. There are other places nearby that serve a good Cuban with either less processed meats and/or a lower cost. I'd give 3.5 stars, but I'm rounding up because these COVID days are hard on all restaurants. read more
