A visit from local favorite bartender Matthias caused the need to visit this bakery, which doubles as a bar a few nights a week. Full stocked bar with some interesting ideas for drinks. Square top peninsula bar to the left as you walk in and lounge area sofas and arm chairs to sit in groups to the right. Place is clean and just FYI it has one unisex bathroom and the place opens at 7 PM. This Friday night featured an appetizer menu, what I will call a munchies menu of tacos made by another vendor, and bottle cap bingo of all things. I tried the pecan bourbon old fashioned ($13) and found it to be good. I try to limit the add-ins somewhat and so I just stuck with Buffalo Trace on a large rock for the rest of the night. My wife had several mixed drinks that were in the $12 range. Matthias came up with a drink that was, per my wife, "sweet and strong." I thought maybe she was thinking of me when she ordered but she nixed that idea pretty quickly....LOL Mini-charcuterie ($12) I thought left something to be desired. Beef jerky added with just a toothpick of cured meats. Not sure how they fit three different types on there but they did and it was just enough to make you want more. Cheeses seemed to be basic run of the mill diced. Per my wife it was ok, but she would probably pass on ordering it again. It's not meant as an entree to be fair and there is a good portion as a whole, but just overly simple and a little light on proteins. I'd cut down the cheese and double the toothpick, also 86 that jerky stuff and probably have a decent plate. Maybe even through a couple extra strawberries on there. Two sisters sitting next to us ordered the artichoke and spinach dip. They said the dip was fine but the baguettes were way over-toasted (i.e. too dry) and that seems like an easy fix. Later in the evening during bingo I tried a couple of tacos. They are brought in and stored, reheated when ordered. Unfortunately it seems like it as the flour tortillas are quite soft and it just doesn't come out fresh. The relleno burrito is just a relleno wrapped in a flour tortilla; the potato and chorizo had my wife's approval and mine as well. Laura runs a good bar over there, and some of you may remember her from Torchy's down the road. Fair pours and prices commensurate for around the area. Bingo runs pretty quickly, even the blackouts and the organizer had a plinko game a la price is right style. Was a fun run down memory lane for me. In a bit of irony, we never ordered dessert, which is the main focus of this business during the week. The samples I saw looked pretty good and it seems like the bar is just a way to make use of the space off bakery hours which I can appreciate. To me though they are nearing that price range where I'd expect a little better from the kitchen for appetizers. About $120 was the overall tab which we capped with a 25% tip. On my wife's birthday, I called the store to see what gluten-free options they had. I was able to speak with a kind representative who told me that they have just a couple of flavors of cupcakes that are gluten-free. She asked me which I would like. And so I was able to call in get a cupcake set aside for me and when I showed up at 5 o'clock just shortly before they were closing for the day she greeted me with a smile and handed me the cupcake. The only drawback is that I think we got chocolate and vanilla confused. Nevertheless, my wife enjoyed the cupcake and a birthday wish was granted. Glad I discovered The Flour Shop Bakery. I love blueberries and so I bought a loaf of lemon blueberry. It was perfect - you can definitely taste the blueberries and lemon zest and the loaf stayed moist even after refrigeration. It's a perfect afternoon snack or breakfast. I have been visiting the flour shop since it was in the shops of HV. The red velvet cupcakes have been my guilty pleasure and most desired sweet treat for as long as I can remember. My family always gets special occasion cakes here and they never disappoint. I hate to be nitpicky but as you can see in the picture there are a couple little details missing that bummed me out just a little. The dot for the "i" and the line through the "t" in birthday were forgotten so when you get a closer look it looks a little bit off. I ordered many items to try. Sugar cookies were devoured by my kids. They enjoyed them. The gluten free cupcake texture was great but the chocolate buttercream frosting wasn't my taste. I don't know if it was vegan maybe? or how to describe it but it was kind of flat or lacking in some way. The smores bar and sugar cookie bar weren't for us. I was concerned that the sugar cookie bar was raw but searching reviews I see that the bar is suppose to be gooey/doughy. It was too doughy and raw tasting for me. I only mention this so others won't be surprised. We also got red velvet and carrot cupcake and both were fantastic. If I only got these I would easily rate 5 stars. Frosting was wonderful and not too sweet. The perfect amount, too. Moist and flavorful cake! A couple of weeks back, I placed an order for a number cake. I stopped by this morning to pay for my cake order and to possibly add another cake. I inquired with the staff member (not sure her name, but she had short colorful hair and wore glasses) about my current cake order, and how many people it would feed. She told me she didn't know and would have to go ask, but not in a friendly manner. I told her I would like to know ballpark how many, she rolled her eyes and turned and walked away to ask someone in the back. When she returned, she told me my order would only be enough for 20 people. I then responded with needing 2 more cakes cause I would need enough for 40. She seemed annoyed at my request, rolled her eyes again, then stated that she did not have what she needed to "change my order." She then looked at me and stated, "You want this with the same budget?" in a condescending tone. I told her that I would, of course, increase the budget, but she did not seem to want to help at all. I ended up telling her I would come back at another time to pay for the cakes and not to worry about it, and left. After finding another bakery that was kind and helpful, I called and cancelled my order. If I may also add, while this was going on, another employee was standing at the counter taking another order and heard the whole encounter. Needless to say, I will not return there. read more

Okay I judge bakeries HARD. It's gotta be good, fresh, and worth the calories. I will say this was worth every calorie it had to give. My SO and I were in the Flower Mound area and decided to drop in and check it out based upon reviews. The girl behind the counter was very nice and helpful and answered all questions we had about the items. We decided to get a smattering of things to taste at home: Key Lime Pie: 10/10 SO is from Florida and says this is legit. Perfect color, flavor, etc. Whoopie Pie: 7/70 SO said this was a little soggy burger it tasted really nice Lemon Bar: 9/10 Very moist (which I like) and good texture wished for a smidge more lemon flavor. Meringue: Don't know the official name but it was a hollowed out meringue filled with buttercream and topped with fresh berries 12/10 this was so epic. Light and fluffy and just wonderful. I am usually ambivalent about cupcakes and find they look charming but taste bland. Not so at The Flour Shop. Theirs are simply amazing! We had 48 mini cupcakes ordered in advance for a party and they were soooo good. I am actually glad it is a 20 minute drive to get there otherwise I would have serious trouble keeping these as a sometimes treat. We ordered cookies and cream and (I think they were called Lara's favorite or something similar) which were vanilla cupcakes with strawberry filling, whipped cream on top. Both were amazing. I've been to the new location a few times and I have to say that I strongly prefer the old location and how things used to be. That being said, I would say from the reviews and conversations with other Yelpers that there are 2 distinct ratings for this place. First, there is the rating for ordering fresh products- designing a cake, ordering a tray of cupcakes, etc. The consensus on that seems to be 4 to 5 stars and I'm glad to know when the items are baked fresh, they are still as stellar as I remember. Every time I have been in there one of the bakers is at a table consulting on making and delivering a wedding cake or a large order of some sort, so special orders and catering seem to be a distinct part of their current business model. The second rating is for the bakery itself, when you walk in off the street and want instant dessert gratification. That's a 3 star, and not just because I miss how it used to be, that really has been my experience every time I've come to the new location. On a personal level, I'm so disappointed because this was the only bakery I could consistently count on for so long and now they are so different. On the other, I respect a small business has to make changes to survive and I think the changes are a reflection of what the local audience is demanding. The current location is fairly large with a lot of seating. Up front is the display area to the left, a couple of tables in the middle and a sofa/chair layout to the right with a coffee table. In the back are various tables behind a partition and they keep their bussing containers less noticeable in the corner. It's actually a nice layout and the staff is much larger now, accommodating the size. I hardly ever see a familiar face when I stop by. In the previous layout, mini cupcakes could be found on any day of the week and in a variety of flavors. Since they've done away with those (unless you order an entire tray) I have been missing the perfect matching flavors, the moist cake and the great texture I came to count on. The larger cupcakes are dry and often bland. They usually only carry vanilla, chocolate and a couple of other flavors. I've tried multiple, including ones I used to get in the mini size and the filling has been lacking (both in flavor and actual quantity, there is very little) every time and they run from dry to stale. They have expanded their offerings in the bakery so you can also choose from a pie or two and several cream pie slices, cookies, brownies, bars, cake balls and usually another item or two. I've tried a couple of slices of pie and a cookie and they've been average to good. Many may find it satisfactory, but they are also a bit expensive for what you are getting. I am slightly annoyed that prices aren't easily posted like they used to be and on my last two visits, they weren't on the board at all. As a consumer, I prefer knowing ahead of time that the cupcake is now $3.79. I usually inquire about the prices before asking for a specific item, but if there is a line I may just ask for a slice of pie out of consideration and then get a little sticker shock when it's nearly $5. The point is, marking the trays or putting prices on the board would be both lovely and preferable. My rating is both a split of the in store and ordering experience, as well as a recognition that I probably took the adjustment harder than others because I'm so particular about desserts and loved the original format so much. Just because I can't find that old magic I loved, doesn't mean many people won't be plenty happy with it. However, I want a bakery to be consistent quality that matches the price so that I can count on it when I'm struck by a craving or want to eat my feelings in the form of sugar. read more

Me and my mother were driving around Flower Mound and passed by Flour Shop. We are both dessert addicts, so I did a U turn and in we went. I was very impressed initially with how big the place is. You can defiantly go in and sit down and have a cupcake or three. The second thing that caught my eye was the variety. I love a good bakery, but sometimes I get a little let down with the selection. That was defiantly not an issue here, as they have many unique selections you don't see anywhere else. One of those things being the Creme brûlée cupcake. Creme brûlée is my second favorite dessert after tiramisu so I was very happy to see this unique cupcake. I'm happy to report that it did not disappoint. While the sugar topping was quite crunchy, it defiantly had a strong smoked sugar taste and was quite delicious. It also was not overly sweet, something that usually turns me off about cupcakes. I saw something else out of the corner of my eye that sparked my interest, and that was the sugar cookie bar. That is something that I usually wouldn't go for, but it reminded me of something from my childhood that I loved from Great American Cookie. The sugar cookie part of the bar was decadent. Like the moistest cookie I've ever had. It was the perfect balance of sweet and salty. I wasn't a fan of the frosting or sprinkles, as it just kind of made it wayyy to sweet. I really wanna ask about ordering a giant cookie cake version of the bottom for my birthday. No frosting at all!! I took away one star because the person helping us out could have been a little more helpful. She couldn't awnser our questions and seemed a little burdened by us. I gave The Flour Shop 4 out of 5 because I have had some good desserts and some lack luster desserts but the good ones that I've had are really really good. For example, the banana pudding cupcake is so delicious. I wanted to go back to the bakery to get another one but I didn't want the person working their to judge me. I could've told them I'm getting it for a friend but they'll catch me in the lie because that cupcake would not make it out of the parking lot. The customer service is hit or miss. Also the website is not that accurate. I tried to order some cookies for my uncle earlier this year and they had all these great flavors listed on the website but when I called the store the options were limited. Five stars and more is what Cara deserves. She saved our wedding by baking our cake just a couple of weeks before. We received many compliments from our guests. Even our wedding coordinator said she had tasted many wedding cakes and this was one of the very best, if not the best. Cara also baked thank you cupcakes for our guests "How Sweet It Is To Be Loved By You". And, I heard about how good these cupcakes were for weeks after the wedding. Some of their favorites were: Pecan Pie, Lemon Drop, Red Velvet and Black Forest. I really want to love this place but sadly every time it's just disappointing. A birthday cake my husband ordered had fallen & sunk in the middle, but they filled it with WAY too much icing to level it out. Then the cupcakes have gotten smaller, yet prices got higher! One week I got cupcakes from magnolia in Waco- paid $3.50 for huge, beautifully decorated & icing a mile high w adorable toppings. Then the next week needed cupcakes for a birthday dinner, so I tried once again the flour shop- SADLY disappointed yet again! The cupcakes look like my teenage daughter made them from a box cake mix with cheap paper liners. The chocolate with coconut actually sunk down almost below the liner it was so flat. In my line of work I am constantly running to the bakery to pick up cookies, most recently a cake and they never disappoint. I walk in and know my face and greet me with the warmest smile. I particularly like that their cupcakes are small versions of their cakes so we are able to sample different kinds before committing to a 6 or 8in cake. For our first round, we tried mini-cheesecake, Chocolate on chocolate, triple threat, Carrot, German's cupcakes. Enjoyed the cheesecake very much -- less tang, more creamy. Choco on choco and triple threat aren't too sweet for chocolate. We liked both but prefer the triple threat more. German's cupcake is least of our favorite but that's probably because we don't enjoy coconut on cakes as much. It is not as moist as the other cakes we listed. read more

This bakery has such good reviews that we drove all the way from Fort Worth to get a cake. I Ordered a "Triple Threat" cake for my cancer group. The pictures were MUCH different than the actual cake. The actual cake was not nearly as decorated or "special". Although the cake was far from bad, it was nothing special. We all agreed I could have gotten a cake from Central Market that would have been just as good and half the price.
