Midday and wifey needed a pick me up, so after a quick Yelp search I discovered The Flying Saucer and set our course. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Located right in the heart of downtown South Haven, this shop is a bit unassuming from the outside, but cozy and charming inside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We were fortunate to find a parking spot right in front, so she hopped out and went in to order her drink. We needed coffee for the house, but I wasn't sure we'd find it here, so when she came back out with a bag of ground beans, I had to head in to see what was going on myself. Now I stopped here because I saw the pour over menu and as it turns out, Flying Saucer serves Uncommon Coffee from Saugatuck, and as a result, they offer a wide range of their beans for sale in smaller packages, which were perfect for the needs at home! Decided to stop in to get a cup of tea and a pastry/muffin. I was guilty of ordering tea without understanding that they did not have milk set out for customers to add after they ordered their drink. So I asked to have some milk added to my tea. A young man behind the counter nodded and then proceeded to add something to my tea. When he handed it back I asked him what he added, because it was obviously not milk, and he did not respond. I asked again and got no response. Then the cashier turned around and in a loud voice (almost shouting), said "You didn't ask for milk!" Then someone who appeared to be a manager came over and I again asked what was added to my tea. No response once again. The person who may have been a manager said we'll just give you another tea with milk. I said fine, and soon I received my tea, and I left. This is no way to run a coffee shop. There are other options in South Haven where the staff is not hostile, the staff is actually trained, and they actually want your business. read more

I stopped in for some pastries. Zucchini bread, brownie, raspberry sugar cookie, and a blueberry muffin. The zucchini bread tastes like it has ginger in it, didn't love that, but I liked everything else. The brownie was fudgy enough. I got a few drinks for my crew. A vanilla latte for my mom, a coconut latte for my husband, and a cold brew for myself. All were excellent. In particular I quite liked the coconut latte. It's one I never think to order for myself but every time I take a sip when my husband gets one I like it! And they make a great one here. We found this coffee shop mixed in with all of the shops in the area and were happy to stop in. The Flying Saucer is out of this world (pun most definitely intended). We were looking for a coffee shop mid afternoon, and this was one of the few that were still open. We got lucky! The inside makes you think you're inside of a spaceship. Awesome decor! The coffee wasn't half bad either. They have flavor pumps up the wazoo and the espresso was really fresh without any burnt type of taste. I got the double cold brew, which is cold brew brewed with cold brew. Apparently most places use water? Anyways, was really good and strong. I needed to add a little sugar even though I usually get my coffee black. The owners didn't disappoint with the decor and atmosphere. There is a book collection to explore about UFOs, futuristic furniture, alien posters, and other art within this theme which is a joy.
