Frame-Shop @ Lakeside is extremely well run, professional, insightful with respect to what framing works well in what settings, and all-around a great shop. I came in 30-minutes before close with a large project. I was greeted by the owners and they walked me through various options I was afforded through their extensive collective/catalog. We landed on an option that I felt would be beautiful in my home. The staff offered extremely sound advice with respect to what type of framing style should be used -- I'm very pleased with not just the border of the frame, but also how the print is hung in a "floating" fashion within the frame, which exposes some beautiful details in the artwork. I'm also grateful that the owner recommended that I _not_ splurge on the most expensive acrylic to protect the artwork. I feel that we made an excellent balance between quality and affordability. Given the current Covid epidemic, I wanted to help support local business when I had a framing need. As it turns out this shop has been family/locally run for many years. With Christmas looming, I needed a present for my oldest daughter. I remembered a print we bought from an artist at Sac Anime the year before and thought it would be nice to make it more presentable. The staff was incredibly courteous and helpful. They even had a "poster" special which worked perfectly. I know custom framing is expensive, but their rate was quite reasonable. Some thing shouldn't change and a good framers is one of those things. This shop carries frames I have not seen available in 30 years. Emily the salesperson was excellent help. Older female worker (manager maybe in her late 60s/early 70s?) was honestly incredibly rude and acted like she could not be bothered. Constantly had sassy attitude from the moment we stepped in, despite the fact that we were paying an absurd amount of money for something that could've been done at Michael's with less hassle and cash. Other workers were actually very pleasant, though, and the frame was good quality. Unfortunately, after waiting for 3 weeks to pick it up, they framed it in the wrong orientation even though we walked them through and they wrote down (on the back of the art piece) which side was up and down. Just decided to hang it 90* tilted instead of go back in and deal with the manager again. Overall, very expensive ordeal to get treated like we weren't welcome by manager and have our art ultimately framed incorrectly. I'll give 1 star, though, because the kids were nice and the frame was still good quality, despite the careless mistake. Edit: ever think that I was so disappointed that I created accounts on services that I didn't even have just to warn people? Nope, but the rude manager is in your profile pic, you'd do well to get rid of her! And it was my son that paid for the frame. read more

I've had over 500 prints framed in the last 10 years. New to Reno, I sourced all the reviews I could find to limit the time I spent searching for a good farming shop. Based on my visit here, I was taken by several things that made me send my stuff to LA even considering the shipping costs. 1st they only had a few different mat options; I'm used to thousands of choices. 2nd they had an extremely limited selection of framing options; I was shown 9 samples and was warned they all might not be able to order some of them. Their pricing was so high, I could have framed 5 prints the same size in better materials in NYC where I'm from. Seriously, if I were thinking of getting 2 large pieces framed here, I'd reconsider and just buy a dry mount press, mat cutter and miter box. You'll save $1500 and be able to frame your friends stuff in the future. Even if you screw up a few mats you'll still save money. There's really very little skill involved. Or just drive to S.F. and drop them off. Overall, this visit was a shocking disappointment. read more

I had a very large print of my daughter's original painting made and wanted a high quality frame for it. The size was unusually large and no one was able to create a backing for framing until I finally tried Frame Shop. The team was amazing in helping me choose the right frame but more than that, owner Dan was innovative in how to prepare it for framing. I mistakenly had it printed too small to allow for a proper interior mount, so Dan came up with a solution. Once I had it home, after two months I noticed it bullying up on edges. I called Dan and he came straight away to pick it up. He wanted to make it right and went above and beyond. He had a much higher quality print made of the correct size so that it could be prepared properly for framing and returned it. The cost of printing and labor was not small but Dan never even negotiated with me, he took on all the extra costs to make it right. It was my error to begin with, but Dan didn't think to charge me as he should have. This kind of service is very rare today. A local business doing high quality work. Your bad if you do not get your art framed here. read more

I am pretty lazy and don't do a lot of reviews, but I'm making an effort because the Frame Shop is worth it. They nailed the job I came in with. I brought in two fox prints, and they did an incredible job with both. One print was damaged from glass during a fall, and there was no trace whatsoever of damage by the time they were finished. The matting colours and frames they selected (I let them guide the artistic direction) were so, so perfect. These pictures will be on my walls for years or decades to come. read more

I don't generally review shops or items; however, I felt my experience was worthy of a negative review. I took a lino cut print to be framed. I knew what I wanted from the start a simple maple frame with no mat only a spacer. It took forever to get the print back and I took it home only to note a large gouged area in the print along with other dings to the paper. I called then took it back, told them who the artist was and where to contact her. I had already contacted the artist to hold a replacement, which she then kept me appraised. After over a week, I had to call the shop and ask why hadn't the print been ordered. Two days later the shop ordered the print. They quickly turned it around and when I went to the shop to pick up the new print, I spoke with one of the owners. She offered no apology, nothing to recognize the hassle it was for me. Damaging a print it pretty egregious, then framing it and passing it on as finished was even worse. I understand mistakes happen and working with the public can be a challenge, but customers need to be treated fairly and well enough. I was not, I will never recommend or use this shop again. read more

Amazing work. We purchased four lithographs from an auction and the existing frames and matting were in bad shape. The Frame Shop fixed them right up with new frames and mats and we absolutely love the way they turned out! The woman that assisted us during our order was very friendly and gave us some great ideas and options for frames and mats. They have a ton of framing options; some of the materials have to be ordered and may take time. Our order took a little over two weeks. It was well worth the wait! The frames were well packaged when we picked them up and included a satchel with all the hardware for hanging! Our lithographs had certificates of authenticity glued to the back of the originals, The Frame Shop added a pocket to the back paper of the new frames to slip the certs into. Love it, great idea! Professional framing is not cheap, but the prices are fair here for professional, custom framing and the quality of work is high. We are very impressed and will look to The Frame Shop in the future for any framing needs! read more
