Nevada Fine Arts has been my go-to for framing, as well as all kinds of art supplies for the last... three to four years. Most of my larger pastel paintings are framed here, and I really love it that I can just walk in and everyone knows how exactly I want it framed. The quality of the job is superb, and the cost is reasonable. I'm so thankful for their work. For the art supply, even if they don't have what you need, they may be able to get it for you. I've ordered my big easel through NV Fine Arts, and it saved me a lot of time and money. Staff is kind and helpful. Customer service is always friendly and patient. My one and only complaint is that the frame shop is not affordable for the average person. I've stopped in this store several times over the years looking for different materials to use in card making. But it is more a store for artists- great paint and brush selections, and other higher end art. And in the front right corner of the store is a nice professional framing area. I haven't used them yet. What I didn't know until a few weeks ago is the small gallery that is downstairs. Opposite the framing area to the back of the store is a set of stairs. Art lines the stairs and there are two small rooms downstairs to showcase different artworks. The week of May 7th, 2017 I ventured down to the gallery to check out a display that benefited the Nevada Humane Society and had work being shown by fellow Yelper Piyush. The teen knew what she wanted--some expensive markers that were understandably in a locked cabinet up front. I popped in Nevada Fine Art recently to get a matte or 5 for some picture framing I was doing. My first stop was actually a chain store that didn't come close to having what I needed. I knew NV Fine Art was going to be expensive but worth it because they have a phenomenal selection. I was correct! They had a great matte selection and they were huge! The other place I went to only went up to 18x20, my largest was 32x24. So yay, they had what I needed but YAY again - they cut the matte down for me for only $1 per cut! I can't fathom the travesty that would haev resulted if I attempted to cut them down myself, yikes. The customer service was freaking above and beyond - there was a slight mix up with the cuts and I wound up having to choose a new color for one of them, oops, but the guy helping me made sure I was 100% happy, and I am! read more

These guys are amazing. We were in crisis mode in Squaw Valley - our fat heads to support our friends participating in Ironman Lake Tahoe had been delayed in delivery, and we needed to act fast. We had contacted a print store in Reno to print the actual pictures at 4 feet by 3 feet, but had no idea how we were going to cut them out, or mount them on foam board. A patron at Reno Print Store suggested that we go to Nevada Fine Arts because they had large sized foam board that would suit our needs. We rush across town, call on the way, and show the guys the size of the pictures. They were so helpful, and suggested for a little bit more of a cost we have them mount them. After some negotiating - they agreed to do the mounting and cutting for us! The product was amazing! They didnt even know what a fat head was, and they totally delivered. While waiting for the mounting, I walked around the store - and they have amazing products, as well as a full framing department. To start, all of these businesses on South Virginia, in the Mid-Town area, had been rocked by recent road construction and loss of foot traffic as a result of detours off the roadway and the lack of parking. Then came the recent non-business friendly decisions by state and local government that literally has crushed Nevada's economy, more specifically, small businesses, like Nevada Fine Arts, that can't keep up with inventory like larger supply stores and chains. That said, here's my story, and ultimately, my support for this business. A couple of years ago, following my move, I was in search of an art supply store where I could purchase quality canvas, oils, and brushes. In my travels, I would turn to my main supplier (9 hours away) and stock up on my needs. I learned through other sources that Nevada Fine Arts had a good inventory and immediately looked them up ultimately purchasing a large canvas for a project. The store (pre-construction and Covid) appeared well organized, structured and stocked with what I would need. The canvas selection was okay, but I earned that they could order any size larger than what they would normally carry (storage issues). I could live with that. A few week ago, I returned to thee store in search of more canvas, which had to be ordered. In the meantime, I met the owner, who gave me a tour of his store and described his other services (photographic), which I was in need of too. The canvases where ordered, and to my surprise, arrived sooner than expected. My upcoming project changed and I needed to add another canvas, which was ordered. However, after two months and no update, I learned that a communication issue was part of the problem along with a production delay from the manufacturer. This left me very disappointed, and honestly, a bit bitter. Unbeknown to me, the weight of the issue heavy on the owner' shoulders too. So much that he felt compelled to generate an unsolicited email to me to express his apology. It takes a true business owner to communicate disappointment and passion for performance. We exchanged cordial emails (which will not be shared) and I was left with the impression that this owner wants to maintain a great business relationship with his customers. Ultimately, my canvas arrived, other items were purchased too, and I'm confident the photographic services will be used in the weeks to come. The bottom line (for me)...it takes a very professional person with heart to realize the importance of building relationships. I could have very easily have been brushed off and forgotten. The fact I was not earned my loyalty. Do I expect this store to stock everything? Of course not. Will I give them a chance to find/ order it for me, YES. I encourage you to let Nevada Fine Arts help meet your supply needs and give them an opportunity to come through for you. They are super knowledgeable and nice! I'm so glad I found them when I moved to Reno as an alternative to Michaels, because shopping at local stores always feels better to me. They have a great selection of quality supplies at their expected prices, (quality art supplies = paying the quality price no matter where you go! ) They also have extras like frames/candles/mints and stuff like locally made crafts up in the front! What I've noticed in the sections that I usually go for when shopping for my own projects - Paint : large selection of well organized watercolours, spray for mixed media, acrylics, and I believe oil but I haven't looked much yet since I don't usually paint with oil! Paper/Canvases : large selection as well of every type! Brushes : they sell brush cleaner and a wide variety of brushes for different mediums! Within 2 seconds of entering the store my roommate and I were greeted with a look of disgust by an older woman. Kindly asking where the frames were and if they could help I was then awkwardly and unenthusiastically shown where the frames were. After finding the right size I asked if they would be able to insert my photograph into the frame. The answer was yes...for $30!! On top of that I was told it would take 2-3 days. Made me wonder why I asked in the first place when all that I needed to do was take the back off, insert my already perfectly sized photo and put the backing back on. There wasn't even a car in the lot or another customer in the store. When I politely changed my mind and decided to do it myself I look up to see the older woman glaring at me shaking her head. First off, you do not know me. Secondly, I was nothing but kind and polite. Thirdly, I would never treat a customer nor a person in general with the absurd facial expressions and head shaking that my roommate and I were greeted with. Lastly, thank you to the kind younger gal who acted more maturely and more like an actual adult than the older woman. This place is awesome!! The staff is super friendly and will help you find whatever your need for your artistic endeavors. And if they don't have what you are looking for than they can most likely order it. This is the only shop in town that I have been able to find alcohol inks sold separately. The big craft stores sell the inks, but not a large variety, and only in three packs. So if you only need one color you have to buy the other two as well. Also those craft stores only carry one brand, Ranger. NFA has Ranger as well as Jacqaurd which is awesome. Along with art supplies they have all kinds of fun items for gifts. There is a gallery space downstairs with rotating gallery shows. It's very cool, you should check it out. There is even a studio space in the back of the store where different classes are held. Check the calendar on their website for classes, dates and times. If you take a class there, they will even give you 10% off any supplies you purchase the day of the class. I was on a search of a Bookbinding Awl which lead to this gem of an art supply story. Located in Midtown- its in the back corner of an antique coop dominated strip mall on Virginia & W Arroyo. It's a gold mine of art supplies! I've been to this shop a few times since I've moved to Reno and I'm not sure why I'm not there more often. The good -The staff as uber friendly and knowledgeable. -I'm always a fan of shopping local. -It's appears small but they place is packed with almost anything you'll need to start, finish, or create a project. -10% discount on supply lists for classes at NMA. The not so good -No coupons or ads to keep them top of mind for me. They are now back on I radar and I hope to become a regular as I reach my goal to finish all the 1/2 finished projects that are cluttering up my house! read more

I have been in several times with an idea but not much knowledge of the materials I would need to follow through with my plan. I thought that the staff was very helpful and handled my many questions with patience and expertise. I am a parent and volunteer art teacher at a local elementary school. The staff knows the products they sell very well and has always lead me to exactly what we have needed to create a stunning piece of art for the fundraiser art auctions. I see many mentions of the price at this store. As a frequent customer at Michael's and JoAnn, I can tell you that if you want a quality product, you have to pay more. NFA deals in quality. I'm an artist and muralist that lives in Reno but works wherever jobs take me. Over the years Debbie and the crew at Nevada Fine Arts have always gone out of their way to order and stock hard to find materials. I buy ALL my spray paint here and recommend that other muralists shop here where they can choose from a full line of MTN 94, markers, and caps. You can eek out a few nickels and dimes shopping online but when you are at your wall and running out of that one specific color you are just going to have to come here any ways. Might as well support local and keep your money in the community, especially because NFA has always supported the local art community Beside spray paint I also go through a huge amount of paper throughout the year. After talking to Debbie about the paper I order online through a different distributor she was able to find it and went out of her way to beat their price (plus shipping!!!) by 10%. This is why Nevada Fine Arts is a great store. They truly care about the needs of local artists. I've been coming here since I was a kid to get quality paintbrushes and canvases. Over the years I've dabbled in all kinds of arts from airbrushing to leather-crafting. I'll admit there has been some years since I've been back here, as the last time I was it looked like a lot of their stock, quality, and art varieties had dropped significantly and I had thought that maybe they were going out of business. The place was practically empty. I was apparently wrong, because when I came back in the store today they had everything I remembered them having and more. They even have more options in what they stock because their stamping/printmaking section has increased. They have more airbrushing tools, better selections of papers, and more burnishing tools than I last remember. They also have a gallery downstairs which was an area previously inaccessible. They've got a Day Of The Dead theme going in the gallery right now, which had sugar skulls of course, as well as all the bright saturated colors we all expect and love. They're going to breaking it down to prepare for the next one within the next day, but I really like the idea of having a gallery in the art store, so I hope they keep it up. Also I think at some point they used to offer classes? I don't know if they still do, but it looked like they had a space they could do so in the back part of the store if necessary. All in all this place looks like a Do It All kind of store. Love it more now than I did as a kid. read more

Tried to return a 20 dollar can of gloss coat today (thats right 20- bucks for a can of clear spray) cuz the can stopped working half way through... the guy tried to tell me" i did it wrong"... hey Einstein, i've used a can of spray paint before .... One must ask, was not working with me to fix this problem worth the bad mojo? If you, the owner, said yes then you don't deserve this communities business. To Debra: ... I love going into this store. Unlike big craft stores such as Michael's, this place definitely has a midtown feel to it. I am a supporter of local business and so far would not choose any other art store over this one. The people that work here are so helpful and friendly. They really know their stuff! I am new to doing art and go here mostly to get supplies for my art class. I have a lot of questions and am often looking for advise. The employees are more than happy to help. The prices cant be beat considering they will match any price in town. My favorite part of all though is the student discount and punch card.
