I cannot base my review on the food , service nor ambiance-wondering why? Unfortunately they closed their doors leaving us and two other ladies standing in the cold with no explanation as to why they closed so early. A lady inside was trying to tell me they ordered food to take out then they told them they had no food-WHAT!!! Servers didn't even look our way -finally a waitress peeked out and told us they closed at 6pm because they had only two cooks and they were overwhelmed WHAT! Mind you if you listen to recordings it says no reservations needed lol. I was sooo looking forward to tasting the food what a disappointment-if Freaking Rican wants to be successful in New Jersey you have to have FOOD cuz we like to eat lol. read more

As soon as I walked in, I was greeted with a warm welcome. My original plan was to order food to go but, I ended up staying talking to staff & customers and eating at the restaurant. I was impress with my dish (Trifongo with pork). I wish the Trifongo would had been bigger being that it was so good and the pork pieces were the Best I've ever had. The pork pieces were big chunks (half meat and fat) Best Combo!. I didn't want to miss out on the Pernil and Arroz con Gandules so I order it to go. The Pernil was juicy, tasty, and tender but the rice had an overpowering taste of cumin. But, it wasn't bad. The only down size of the place for me was the place not having a bar. Being that I visited on New Year's Eve, I would had loved some Coquito or a cocktail to close out the year. I was very excited to hear about the soft opening of The Freakin Rican, located on Cedar Lane in Teaneck's Downtown, and was eager to try the food. I am writing to provide feedback regarding my first takeout experience yesterday. Order Logistics I placed my order around 12:00 PM for a 4:00 PM pickup. Although I arrived promptly at 4:00 PM, I needed to wait an additional ten minutes for the order to be ready. Upon receiving the food, I immediately noticed the bag was not warm at the bottom, nor did it have any protective barrier like cardboard at its base. The Order I ordered the following items: * Pernil con arroz y gandules * Pasteles meal (pork) * Chicken and beef empanadas * Sancocho Dish Critique The highlights of the meal were definitely the Pernil, which was tender and perfectly seasoned, and the Sancocho, which was very flavorful and satisfying. However, the rest of the meal was unfortunately disappointing: * Arroz y Gandules: The rice was lukewarm and tasted stale, lacking the freshness of newly prepared rice. It seemed as though it might have been reheated from the previous day. * Salads: All accompanying side salads were wilted and did not taste fresh. For a soft opening, I was unfortunately rather unimpressed. While the pernil and sancocho were excellent, the issues with the rice, salads, and initial waiting time left my overall experience feeling comparable to neighboring Latin restaurants in the community, without a distinct standout element. The food was awful. I was highly disappointed. I've been ordering stuff from them online and live close to this location so I was happy and eager to go. I Ordered arroz maspostiado that had no beans and the tostones burnt. When I mentioned it to the waitress, she looked at me with a what do you want me to do look. Lovely place and ambience and must say looking forward to going back, but the food has to be better. I ordered the breaded steak, which was delicious for my taste, but salty much more saltier for my wife. White rice was delicious and the other dish that we ordered with the black beans was the steak with onions and a bit much thinner than expected and not moist at all just very dry. Which was surprising. The black beans are to die for and overall I have to be right in the middle. Looking to try it again to give it another try and we hope that we can enjoy a nice Latin dinner which made me think of my mom's cooking with the breaded steak. It's not just the worst Cuban restaurant, it's the worst restaurant! I've had better food frozen direct to microwave. The steak could've been worn as a shoe if it weren't for the veins and fat. Every other hot item we ordered was cold, hard, and of microwaveable quality. What a shame that they couldn't deliver a quality product after the effort that went into rebuilding. read more

The food was amazing! Every dish we ordered was fresh and very tasteful. I strongly suggest you work on service and experienced waiters and servers. I had to ask for water several Times before finally insisting and we were finally served water. We arrived at five and were still waiting for the snapper at 7pm. We left without having it. The greeter at the front should be very engaging, warm, and eyes wide open. My brother, you've got the food down and I want you to succeed! Maybe they just need more training? read more

Update, the food here is not very good. I was with two other people and we were all very disappointed. As a PR man, I can say, this place needs a serious overhaul. Two of us had steak with onions, the other had the peril. We all left 1/2 of our food. Dude , season your food, watch your kitchen. Your cooks will kill your place. read more

We were so excited to try the mofongo. Waited over an hour for our appetizers that were just okay. Waited ANOTHER HOUR for them to tell us they ran out of steak. TWO HOURS TO FIND OUT WE WERE NEVER GOING TO GET THE DINNER WE ORDERED. When we got up to leave they said "you don't have to pay..." NO SHIT we aren't paying. The bench seats were so uncomfortable. We also heard another table ask where their food was and the waitress said "I don't even know." Who says that to customers?! They gotta get it together. For the love of god do yourself a favor and avoid this place. I just read the other reviews on here and it says they only have two cooks. That's apparently their excuse every night. Last night, 11/22, I was looking forward to my order as there aren't nearly enough GOOD Puerto Rican restaurants in NJ. I ordered online and got my confirmation text that the food was ready at 4:28pm. When I arrived to pick it up, I had to wait another 20 minutes. In total, a full hour past the confirmation text. I asked the hostess what happened and she blamed the "system not creating the ticket". Whatever the reason, my order was an hour late. No attempt was made to comp me in this visit or the future to make this right. My experience fell flat. read more

Was very excited to hear that a location was opening in Teaneck. I grew up in Queens and love the location there. Went for dinner on a date night with my husband. Food was great! Service was good and the decor and ambiance gives the place an island feel. Will definitely be going again. read more

Ordered trifongo with grilled chicken, 2 beef alcapurrias and maduros for Door Dash delivery. There was no sauce for the dry trifongo, I got 2 crab alcapurria (thank goodness I'm not allergic to shellfish and the maduros were not ripe enough, more like tostones. Where should I start. Let me start by saying I support all or most Puerto Rican establishments. I am from Puerto Rico born and raised in Jersey City and privilege to be able to have grown up some of my life in the main Island. I want my Puerto Rican brothers and sisters to succeed, and this is the reason why I must write this review. I want the Freakin Rican restaurant to succeed but it must do better with the food. We purchased close to 200 dollars' worth of food and the only thing we took home was the carne frita, the alcapurria and my son took his rice, beans and pernil. My good friend had the bistec con cebolla and it was bad. No seasoning and I had the red snapper. The red snapper was dry and as big as my hand. ( I am a female who weighs 150lbs and is 5 feet tall and petite so imagine how small the fish was.) My friends daughter was hungry and could not eat the food and they went to another Spanish restaurant to eat food. I went to the Freakin Rican in NY and the food is way better. I am so sad about this, and I hope the food in Teaneck will improve. PS the pasteles were very average as well, nothing to brag about which I really wanted to do. Good luck. Judy Rivera read more

I tried to place an online but I didn't know that it didn't go through until I arrived. I wasn't a big deal. I would just go inside to order. I asked to place a to go order and was told they weren't taking any orders. It was only 6:30pm. The excuse was that they only had two people working. So that was my experience. Food was authentic Puerto Rican. Delicious and we ordered take out. Best Puerto Rican food we've had in a very long time!!!

Food was great and the service good too but they are seriously understaffed and ran out of beans when I went. Also they dont service booze. They're new so lets give them time but I had the steak and onions and it was great. Need for them to hire more people before I go back. read more
