Have been coming to this spot for many many years and it always hits the spot. They are fantastic for catering ordered-they'll deliver anywhere for a fee and it's totally worth it! Was so excited to see and try a Peruvian chicken place near me! Can't go wrong with getting a classic combo - we got the #2, which comes with your choice of rice (yellow or white) and beans (pinto or black), salad, and sweet plantains. The chicken was succulent and tender - paired perfectly with the zesty green sauce! We also tried the Lomo Saltado - the steak was perfectly cooked, tender and super flavorful! We have had a craving for Rotisserie Peruvian Chicken since we had had it for the first time when in D.C./Virginia and loved it. There are many places in NYC that we are sure also do this right. This is NOT the place in ALL the tri-state area we are sure! We did a takeout order in person. If we remember correctly the order consisited of: 1. Combo which is a Whole Chicken ["Uncle Paulie's Chicken"] + Rice, Beans, Maduros [= Fried Sweet Plantains], Avocado Salad, "Green sauce" [= Aji Verde] & choice of 2 Liter Bottle of Soda. When we came for the in person pick up, we had to ASK FOR A BAG to put the soda in, which was suprising to the girl behind the counter that we did not want to just carry it out in out hand! *Note: MOST if not all of the counter staff are school age girls. When we got the food home, the tasting of the chicken, it had NO flavor as in comparison to what we had experienced in D.C./Virginia! The "green sauce" had the consisitancy of WATER and the rice & beans could have been cooked longer! LOL....Maduros [= Fried Sweet Plantains] were OK though... We went there recently and ordered some food to take out.....it was the lomo saltados and the arroz con pollo.....when we opened the food at home we discovered basically two dinners consisting of rice and very little beef or chicken, and what was there was dried out and tasteless.....certainly not worth the money we paid......it has clearly gone downhill and would not recommend eating there....... When buying Peruvian food, I never question the restaurant because, in my experience, most Peruvian spots are always delicious. But boy, was I wrong about Uncle Paulie's. I ordered their fried rice and rotisserie chicken (white meat only) which came with three green sauces. I almost ordered extra sauce--thank God I didn't. Let's start with the sauce..it was watery and completely flavorless. I've never tasted anything like it and not in a good way.The fried rice was barely passable. It tasted old and wasn't anything special. But the real disaster was the rotisserie chicken. It was incredibly dry, and the meat was literally white--no seasoning, no color, nothing. I have been coming here for years. I used to love this place. This is the first time I have had such a horrid experience. I called in to place an order for pick up. Now I didn't know businesses do this nowadays but when I asked for the total, the girl said the price and that a 4% surcharge is being added for credit card payments. Now I didn't know this was legal now but I asked her at the time why this was being done. I said, "isn't this illegal"? It was a simple question that would have been taken care of with an answer of no, and that it is there policy. But instead she says, if you have a problem with this, you can speak to the owner. Then she says I will pass your number along. I then said forget it, I don't need to speak with owner. Then she got all angry and said why am I taking this tone with her. And then she hung up on me. Then I get a call about 2 hours later asking if I'm going to pick up my order from another person who works there. The original girl kept my order in even after hanging up on me. Who does that? The owner of this establishment should get rid of this person from the counter area or the whole store. I have spoken with the owner several times in the past. He seems like a very nice person. Why he hired this girl is beyond me. It's the girl that speaks better English. The other girl with the broken English is so much more polite and knows how to treat customers. She is terrible and will only make your business look much worse. She does not know a damn thing about how to speak to customers. This BAD employee of yours is destroying your business. Before writing this, I have read some of the other bad reviews and it seems like many other people have had issues with this girl in the past. Either the owner no longer cares or this girl is his daughter. I will not be coming back until she is removed. I have recommended your restaurant to so many of my friends over the years. After the snowstorm we wanted to sit down and have a good hot meal and it just didn't turn out that way. The soup we ordered tasted delicious, but was served warm. Service was good but we had one happy waitress, and one who seemed like she didn't want to be there. We ordered our main course which I wouldn't recommend the Churrasco steak which had a funky taste to it. My wife's pepper steak was delicious and served hot but my rice and beans were also cold. We have been there 3 times and each time the food has been excellent. This place is a hidden gem! They may have the best chicken soup in the world! It would float out of the bowl (so light and tasty) but it has so much chicken in it -- it can't! The side salads are average or below but who orders the salad? Not us - we have discovered the chicken soup! We are seniors and frugal so we get a chicken each week at Costco and make chicken salad, etc. And their chickens are good! But for a treat - we go to Uncle Paulie's and get their daily special and it is enough for two - tho' we get 2 orders so we can take one home! Uncle Paulie's chicken is excellent. It is mainly a carry out place and the service...leaves a lot to be desired but some of this is cultural. In Peru the service is what we would call slow but it is measured and the servers want you to have time to enjoy your food. I ordered Seco de Carne and I was very disappointed, the seco had no flavor and it was not on the typical green, cilantro sauce, it was like if the meat had been cooked/boiled separate and placed in the dish, I called and asked the waiter if that was the way they prepare the dish with no cilanto or sauce and she said she was going to ask the cook, after this she never came back to the table with an answer or any comment until we asked for the check to pay. I really loved their shrimp chaufa but I wanted to order their combo special for $25 which includes a chaufa (regular chicken or beef or veggie), avocado salad, a whole chicken & a liter soda. Their chicken was delicious, juicy & well cooked. I got chicken chaufa & the chicken pieces are chunky. I loved the green sauce & drizzle it all over the rice, you must ask for extra!! Avocado salad has a yellow sauce that is also very tasty.. next time, I must ask what they're made of. With taxes, this filling delectable family meal comes to about $28. This place is my go to place for lunch time Peruvian food. It's got an excellent lunch special. I get the pollo saltado. It is cooked well and has the right balance of chicken to fries to tomatoes. It comes with the green sauce which also is great. Just wish they would give 2 since the portion size is large. You also get a Salad or soup on the side. The salad has a vinegary green dressing which sets up the palate well. The lunch special also comes with a drink. Huge portions, great flavor, and good price. Can't ask for more. read more

This place used to be good with generous portions and real Peruvian taste but now they are very cheap with the ingredients, the chaufa years ago was excellent with scallion onions, scrambled eggs, a lot pieces of meat and the perfect amount the Peruvian soy sauce (siyau)...now is almost white rice !!? The ceviche portion everything is smaller and bunch of roasted corn called canchita....please don't put inside !! The food still is good and will be delicious again if the owner stop being cheap with ingredients and charging clients for the green sauce $50 cents each small container that is almost empty and I know the ingredients to prepare this sauce and the cost is low. The waitress was friendly but the food potion is ridiculous. I order a family combo that was almost $30. I received a whole chicken, a plate of salad, and only a big spoon of rice. I asked the waitress why there was barely enough rice for only one person when I ordered a FAMILY meal, and she said that is the rice portion. I had to order more rice and pay extra. We love Uncle Paulie's. We order from here at least once a month and are never disappointed. The restaurant isn't very close by to us but they will deliver a little outside their normal range if you spend $50 or more. The staff is always very friendly and the delivery guy actually helped me carry all the bags (including a bunch of Amazon boxes) inside my house. So far, they have not messed our order up, even when we request changes to the meals (such as more of an ingredient or substitutes). The prices are very reasonable and we can usually get 2 meals out of each entrée. read more

Their green sauce is AMAZING! I am a huge fan of their rotisserie chicken lunch special that comes with rice, beans, green sauce, soup or salad and a drink for a whopping $8 and tax. The chicken is always fresh and moist, and I love the flavor of the beans. The place is tiny, but that's where you get the best food. I've never had anything else here, and to be honest, I don't feel the need to because the rotisserie chicken is warm, soul hugging food. Support this small, local business and try it out! I really like this place, I have come to this places for 4 times past months, have ordered about pretty much same thing every time and I just love it!! Highly recommend: 1. Sea food chowder soup($8.5): This soup is so large that I am almost full after having it, this soup is not the creamy chowder soup you have thought, it's with a lot of seafood, onion, corn, a boiled egg and some rices( i believe it should be rice) in there, and the soup full of flavor, i am a soup person, and this is the soup that I can drink it everyday! So good! 2. Ceviche Mixto($14) : this is also very good, the seafood is very fresh, the lime juice cooks the fish well. Remember, they can adjust the degree of the spicy depends on how you like, I think regular spicy is already very spicy to me, so I will suggest non spicy or mild spicy. It started a bit rocky for us. When we walked in it was very busy and it took a while to bring us the food we ordered. As the meal progressed, these are the things I wish we knew coming in: 1. Portions are huge! We ordered soup and the waitress was kind to recommend that we split it among the two of us. Well, I am glad she did. The soup was rich and flavorful and there was no way one of us could have finished it alone. It had a generous amount of seafood and rice in it. 2. Food takes time. If you want to be in and out of a place - this may not be the place for you. This restaurant is not a fast food joint and getting food takes time. It's a good place to come, eat, sit and talk for a while. The food - I have been to Peru and was happy to see some native classics on the menu. Among those was the giant corn. It made an appearance in the mixed ceviche and in the soup we ordered. It was prepared the same way they make it in Peru and I love it. They also had Inca Cola. It is very popular with the locals in Peru. Overall - the meals were plentiful and seafood, rice, vegetables were not spared from any dish. If you are watching your figure or a light eater like me, stick with a few appetizers or just one main course. If not, you will end up with lots of take out at the end of the meal. I have eaten lunch at Uncle Paulie's.....let's see.....maybe 40 times. I guess that would be enough of an indicator of food quality and value. But it's not enough. I took my 79 year old father there for dinner once a few months ago. He hates everything. I don't think he's like a new restaurant since sometime during the Carter Administration. As per my recommendation, he ordered the chicken with beans and rice and ate quietly. In the car ride home I asked him his opinion, fully expecting to be flamed with criticism. He loved it and has returned several times since. The food is excellent, served efficiently and politely and is really inexpensive, especially when ordering off the lunch menu. For $10 including a very generous tip, you can eat like a king and enjoy every bite. Love it. read more
