I went to a Halloween party and the host decided to use TFQ Food Truck to provide the food for the evening. ( FYI it's a great idea bc your guest just walk up place their order and receive hot food. It's paid for by the person having the party so no money is exchanged and there's no cleanup.) I tried several different dishes that were very good. My favorite thing I ate was The Fried Chicken, Bacon and Cheddar Sandwich. My Chicken was hot and had a good coating on it which made it very crispy. It wasn't greasy, and had just the right seasonings. It was served on a french baguette with lettuce, tomato, pickles and a nice remoulade sauce I tried their Shrimp n Grits. The grits were creamy, and the shrimp had a nice spice but not too spicy. The twist was a wonderful accompaniment of Andouille sausage., which had a nice spice. This added another layer of flavor for an extra punch. The next thing I tried was the wings. There were several different kinds and boy were they good. Just the right amount of herbs and spices. The sauces was a bit messy being in a costume for the Halloween Party , but the flavors were outstanding.... The last thing I tried was The Jambalaya. The rice was moist and all the flavors came together to make a wonderful dish. Everyone was extremely happy and enjoyed all the food. I was full, or I would've tried more dishes. I had the fortune to be at a company this Monday afternoon were they had several trucks there as a lunch event for their staff. I won't get into other truck names but The French Quarter was by far the best (in all fairness I did not try the Thai truck). I did, however, sample a dumpling, a taco, a chicken souvlaki, a slice of pizza, and a ice cream sandwich from the other trucks....and I came to two conclusions: #1: I would not have to eat diner that night #2: The Creole Tomato Chicken Wing, Jambalaya, and Po Boy were the best things I ate. The Creole Tomato Wing was big and meaty. It had a perfect crispiness to it and the glaze was sweet with a mild zing from the spices in it. The rice in the Jambalaya was cooked perfectly. The andouile sausage added a nice heat kick and the shrimp and shredded chicken were fine. I prefer my jambalaya a little spicier but there was hot sauce available which solved that one little issue. Po Boy?!?!?! More like Rock Star!!!! This was the highlight of the day! As I write this the juices in my mouth are building and I wish I could get one right now!!! The bread was soft, the right amount of pickles, the tomatoes were good (tasty and red not mealy), the shrimp were fried perfectly, and the remoulade is fantastic. HEY VENDY'S TAKE NOTE!!!!! BEST NEW TRUCK 2013?!?!?! This guy thinks so!!!! UPDATE (11/23/12): Okay, so now that I've been back (a few times) I can officially say I've tried everything on the menu. The Gumbo is really tasty....I'm not a big soup guy but this was good. The Beignets (I'd never had one before) are fantastic...if you've never had one it's basically a deep fried donut or fritter adorned with powder sugar. I noticed a almond taste to the one I had (which isn't typical at least not in any of the recipes I've seen) not that it matters...it was delicious...just be forewarned if you've had them somewhere else and have a nut allergy. And finally the Muffuletta, if you don't like olives this isn't for you! I happen to enjoy them and thought the sandwich was delicious. I never had one before....honestly, I didn't even realize I was ordering a sandwich. To the laymen this is basically a Italian sub (no lettuce or tomato) on a muffuletta (the type of bread) with a olive spread on it. So....if you like Italian subs and you like olives your golden! A little taste of NOLA, out of a NJ based food truck! I wasn't sure what to expect, but I've been wowed! The best jambalaya I've had since I last went to New Orleans 10+ years ago. A little bit of heat, but not too much. The key as always is the rice--perfectly tender, capturing so much flavor. Both the chicken and sausage were well executed. Just a pint of deliciousness! An exceptional gumbo, in a rich brown stock, with a similar sausage and chicken combo to the jambalaya, with its own tender rice added in. A little hot for gumbo today--this would be perfect on a chilly winter's day. Mmm, mmm, good! Last but not least, an exceptional beignet! Not quite on the level of Cafe Du Monde, but those are in a class by themselves. These, along with a cup of coffee, would be the ultimate cure for a hangover. A fine dessert. A better breakfast. The owner, Frank, stood us up over an important family event. He never bothered to call back to apologize or even to place the order and do his job. Every time I called him back he told me to call him back again in another three weeks. I honestly don't know how this man keeps his business running when he can't respond to a simple catering job. I was always calling him back... Calling him back... Calling him back. I ended up calling him 8 times and he didn't do anything. For the amount of time I asked him to get me this order, I could've started my own food truck. Finally after the 8th call, he ended up hanging up on me. I finally gave up in utter disgust because he never apologized, was totally inconsiderate, and entirely unprofessional. Buyer beware. I should've gave up on Little Frankie a long time ago. read more

Another great food truck that frequents Montclair! We had the jambalaya which was delicious, piping hot with the perfect amount of heat and spice. The rice was moist and it was chock full of meat. The shrimp po-boy was just out of this world. Every one of those crispy fried shrimp tasted like it was just caught from the Gulf of Mexico and I'm still thinking about that remoulade sauce that was just heavenly/addictive. The beignets are not exactly like the ones you may have tasted at Cafe du Monde (because these are almondy flavored) but are pretty amazin anyway.......served crispy, piping hot and showered with tons of powdered sugar. As a huge fan of the City of Nawlins and Cajun cuisine (one of my favorite vacation spots), I highly recommend The French Quarter Food Truck. OK for a snack but not a meal, this Pier 13 regular wins points for novelty, but loses them for stinginess. The details: Gumbo: probably the best main dish on the menu, the gumbo features a rich, well-seasoned broth with just enough spice, rice, and veggies. The menu also claims that it contains chicken, andouille sausage and shrimp, but you'll be hard-pressed to find those items in your cup. A few stray pieces of shredded chicken, sure, maybe a few tiny flecks of sausage, but no shrimp to be seen, at least not for me, each and every time I've ordered this. I'm pretty good with amounts, and I'm going to say that the gumbo has about 1 oz. of protein, total. If you were at a sit-down restaurant, this would make a fine starter / app. For an afternoon snack it's also fine, but for a meal, at least for me, it's just not enough. Jambalaya: I love jambalaya, and I wanted this dish to be good, but it suffers the same flaw as the gumbo - the chicken, andouille and shrimp are MIA. This is essentially a cup of seasoned rice. If you are on some odd, high-carb, anti-Atkins diet, this may be just the ticket, but if not, pass. Shrimp Po'boy: a decent (but not great) sandwich. Six fried shrimp on french bread with shredded iceberg lettuce, a few tomato slices, and remoulade sauce (think Russian dressing). Nothing wrong with that, but in a town that offers up some great sandwich options, this one isn't notable. Also, if I'm eating shrimp or seafood, I want the meal to be healthy. Fried shrimp + remoulade sauce + big white bread roll = a missed opportunity, and one that isn't delicious enough to justify its fat and carbs. Beignets: this may be the most-ordered item on the menu. Lots of people get 'em, and they are pretty good. They're made fresh to order, and are pretty substantial. A bit on the dense / heavy side, but good (even a few hours later, if you don't eat them all right away). So that's that. TFQ guys, if you're listening, you've gotta beef up (chicken & shrimp up?) those dishes. Just look at your competition: two trucks away, Luke's Lobster is serving up rolls that are overstuffed with shrimp or lobster. It's an easily fixed flaw. If you're looking for the best in Cajun food, you'll need to come to a food truck to get it. The chef/owner spent plenty of time in the kitchens of New Orleans; NOLA being one of them. I've ordered the entire menu and it's all delicious. The Muffulettas, Gumbo, and Jambalaya rival any from New Orleans, and the Beignets are to die for. Definitely worth your time to find this truck and hit it up...it's super-clean and new, plus the service is WAY faster than any food truck I've ever eaten at. read more

Food trucks are my newest obsession. The French Quarter Food Truck offers traditional New Orleans cuisine from their fried foods to classic po boy sandwiches. I split the fried chicken, bacon and cheddar cheese po boy. It was delicious, especially their sauce. I wish I knew what it was because it would probably become my favorite condiment. It was perfect to split as the sandwhich is HUGE and loaded with the good stuff... and it is also really messy. I ate standing up in a maxi dress, so it was not a pretty scene. Excellent New Orleans food. I had the gumbo which had great flavor and just enough heat. It was made with a light roux which will please most palates. My wife had the red beans a rice which chef makes vegetarian. It could use a little more spice but overall impressed with the flavor profile. We also shared the shrimp po boy which was fresh and flavorful. If chef had "real" french bread from NOLA it would have been a total home run but unless it's shipped up you can't find it in the north east. I recommend following on twitter and heading over to try some real good New Orleans food. read more

We had the Po Boys and the Jambalaya and I must say that we were not impressed. The rice was overcooked and mushy and the sandwiches were lacking shrimp for $8.75. When he retruned to the food truck, he was told that he'd have to buy a shrimp po boy for another $13. Why would your servers not believe him? I wanted to give this a better rating considering the Chicken, Bacon and Cheese Po Boy seemed like a good way to go. I was their first customer today (1130 am) and my sandwich looked good but when I bit into the boneless chicken nuggets, it was apparent that these were leftover from the day before. They were hard and dry and it honestly hurt my teeth. Food shouldn't hurt. If you're going to stop here, I would advice to try something softer. read more

It is a close to a meal in N'awlins that I have had in New Jersey. The Jambalaya was authentic and well spiced. It had the perfect consistency (and thankfully the rice was not the lead role in the cast list of ingredients) and enough heat in it to make you want to be drinking some sweet tea or a frosty Ibita brew. I only wish that it was easier to find this truck and that their hours covered later commuter arrivals. read more

I purchased the shrimp n grits and the shrimp po boy. The chef was inviting and was open to answering any questions. I questioned the spiciness of the creole mac n cheese and the shrimp, andouille sausage and cheesy grits and he offered me a sample. I would come back just for the courteousness of the chef and the cashier. They made me feel important. I cant wait for them to come back to our location. Creole mac n cheese here I come! Tried this truck at the Meadowlands Food Truck Mash Up. Although there were only 2 things left on the menu you out of the 5 or 6, one of the options was what I wanted anyway. The Shrimp Po' Boy had a soft warm baguette with lightly crisp shrimp. Crisp pickles and lettuce with a nice mayo that had a light kick to it. The service was nothing memorable but at 11pm and the Fest had been going on since 5, I couldn't blame them for just wanting to focus on getting orders out. Overall I had no complaints. Would have loved to try the Jambalaya but they were sold out :-( Doubt their in my area but hey, maybe we'll meet again. read more
