First time coming here, wanted to grab some healthy drinks that would hydrate me from the unbearable heat. This place had a great variety of energy drinks, water, and snacks I was looking for but this place also boasts a great fresh fish section and food made to order. Check out lines are such a cool experience and our cashier was the most absolute, friendliest employees we've ever encountered. I really like this store -- the staff is excellent, and the vegetables are always fresh. My only suggestion would be to offer a wider variety of food options for vegetarians and vegans. Currently, there are only a some modest sushi, which aren't very appealing. Perhaps adding something like pizza slice or muffins could be a nice improvement. read more

On the website or the app look for the weekly sales and features. For us it's the deals on meat, usually chicken, beef or pork that keep us coming back. Above average produce too. Great service in the deli, they were out of roasted chicken salad. I asked a young woman at the counter if they had anymore. She checked in back, & brought out some extra salad. Just thought I'd mention it. Too often, there's complaints about bad service, not enough workers, etc. I'm sure there's still some good workers, they just seem to get overlooked, & unnoticed at times. I am something of a grocery store connoisseur, so when I say this some sort of fanfare should be playing: Best Supermarket EVER!!! What a lovely, clean grocery store. A big bulk section (with both grains and things for the health-minded and candy for the, well, not) dominates the center. There is a large prepared foods area, including a rotisserie which turns out no less than half a dozen flavors of rotisserie chicken (white wine-herb is very nice). There's beautiful produce with lots of organic options, and a nice meat counter (I ate their chicken tonight, very good; though I question the judgment of fashioning the bulk sausage into a pig head shape complete with two cherry tomato eyes). A large section of refrigerated drinks (alchoholic and not) availed me of my hometown pop, Vernors ginger ale, in a glass bottle, which I haven't seen in ages (usually it's just in cans); here you can create your own 6-pack out of individual bottles or grab a ready-made one. The staff I interacted with were very nice across the board. A few small complaints: lighting was a bit dim in the dry goods aisles (so much so that it looked like a couple of bulbs may have been out in a few fixtures? But no, I went back on another visit some weeks later, same thing. Everywhere else in the store was fine. This isn't your typical glaring-fluorescents setting, though; the lighting is purposely dimmer, but in the cereal aisle, for example, it was so dark as to be hard to read the boxes.). Also, the faux pergolas and magazine racks clustered around the check-outs make it hard to tell which registers were manned...and then it turned out only one lane was. (Not a big deal, it wasn't crowded, but there didn't seem to be anything obvious to me, like a on/off light over the register, to tell you, unless it was obscured by that arbor thing.) Of note: this store is of a gourmet bent, and while you can find 10,000 types of salad dressing, vinegar and mustard, there isn't a section of paper goods or toothpaste like in a regular grocery store. So it's not a totally practical place for all your shopping needs. Still, great place for when you feel like channeling your inner Julia Child! On the whole, this store is worth the trek for something different. Go out and get fresh today! read more

I really love Fresh Market and have been shopping here for years, but I can't stay quiet any longer on how rude the ladies that work the deli area are. My parents shop here too, and all three of us have observed how rude these ladies are FOR YEARS. They always behave like helping people is an inconvenience, and I am often ignored left just standing at the counter saying "hi" with no reply or ask for my needs/order. I'm under 5'0 and it makes me feel so silly, but my father who is 6'0 has told me the same thing, so it's not my height and the counter...all three of us are grown adults always leave our deli interactions feeling really crummy, and I've seen these ladies behave the same to other customers. I love Fresh Market but please consider changing the staffing at the deli-these ladies are horrible to customers and make one feel their horrible energy from a mile away. read more

Some potential customers are likely to complain about the assumptive higher prices, which I'm going to suggest we agree to disagree on. I'm not complaining at all, since I feel pricing is merited for those items that seem slightly higher than Jewel/Mariano's/Trader Joe's/Pete's. First, the best garlic bagels sold in Chicago's western burbs. It's tough enough to find garlic bagels in Chicago, to find crusty on the outside & soft on the inside, authentic garlic bagels, and fresh garlic bagels, is really extra tough. At $3.99 for 4, can't complain. Harney & Sons - Paris tea for $5.99 a can - great price, albeit a sale at TFM; Columela Olive Oil for $17.99, a good price as well. Organic - Strawberries, Medjool dates, large blueberries - all fresh and delicious. The fresh fruit tarts in the bakery are fabulous. Same for jumbo shrimp, the wild Nova Scotia salmon. Organic not-too-ripe bananas were $.69 a pound. Truly not breaking the bank. Staff are helpful, friendly, store is very clean. So many grocery and produce options in a relatively small store! Many unique options. The store is requiring masks right now and taking every precaution to keep staff and customers safe. They allow 75 customers in the store at once, no more. Especially for those that are relatively bored with pedestrian options in grocery items. The Fresh Market steps it up a notch and if you're cognizant of the sales, they have many. One's likely to spend pretty much the same amount here as at any Chicago area chain grocer. Definitely worth a trip, especially if you're in the area! read more

If I could do 3.5 stars I would. I went in here the other night after dinner with friends at Houlihan's in the Commons because I was on the hunt for pretzel buns. They didn't have any, which made me sad. I had never been here before, and was curious to check it out. Despite not having pretzel rolls, they did have a very large produce and bakery section. I wandered through the rest of the store just to see what all they had. It looks like the selection is good, but like others have said, it's pricey. It's definitely like Whole Foods in that aspect. I don't know if I would shop here regularly since it is so pricey and I'm on a limited grad school budget (plus, I am only in the tricities one weekend/month anyway). I would still prefer to go to Trader Joe's to get my random organic/hippy/fancy items I can't find at Jewel. But, if you live close by and prefer organic items, then you probably can't go wrong here. read more

Fresh Market has beautiful foods, produce is nice meats abd fish lovely and selections of unique meals good. The prices reflect all this, and I don't have a problem with that because I go there for a special experience. What I don't like is that after all that unique expensive experience, my items are bagged in paper bags ( I requested) that DONT have handles, in addition to that they are small and weak. By the time I got my 8 items at $65 to my car one of the bags had split at the seam. Very very frustrating, especially when I didn't have time to lug it back into the store and get it repacked. For goodness sakes, Fresh Market, you of all grocery stores should provide sturdy paper bags with handles. Trader Joe's and Blue Goose still do! Ah, The Fresh Market. My gem amongst the Jewels and Dominicks that line Randall Road. Let me count the ways I love thee: 1) Your amazing fresh produce section. I find fruits and veggies here that I've never even heard of before, like gold papaya and honey tangerines. I love your cranberry bog in the fall, and your selection of rosemary bushes in the winter. 2) Your sinfully good bakery items. I know you don't make them yourself, but I can't get enough of your creme brulee, cheesecakes, and mini cherry pies. Oh so good. And let's not forget the yeast rolls, which are nothing short of amazing - it's easy to eat two or three in one setting! 3) The antipasto bar. This is such a rarity in the suburbs, and it's so nice to see fresh, delicious olives that customers can mix/match. Your mozzarella slices with tomato and basil are pretty darn nice too. 4) The ravioli you introduced last fall, with porcini and truffles, is beyond superb. Outside of my favorite Italian restaurant in New York, I have not found such a good ravioli. A bit of olive oil is all you need to make a wonderful dish that will have the neighbors raving. And to think - it's available in your freezer section. Marvelous. 5) Your great range of foods, condiments and treats. You offer things like forbidden rice and duck fat. You have a fantastic selection of nuts and coffees. And your sushi selection is pretty impressive as well. I appreciate being able to get all of that just minutes from home. The only thing lacking at Fresh Market is the cheese selection. The offers a lot of mass-produced cheeses that really aren't very good, even with pepper and crackers to wash them down. I wish Fresh Market would look into some of the great Wisconsin cheeses offered by small farms up north. If it changed its cheeses, I would have no choice but to give it a solid five stars. read more

My aunt wanted to show me the Fresh Market and it was really interesting to go inside and see everything. As we walked in, my first thought was that this place was very similar to a Whole Foods plus an AJ's Fine Foods, like they had a love child and produced The Fresh Market. Now that isn't a bad thing, but definitely puts it in the expensive specialty store range. A fun place to come to for something special, but not one I'd shop at for regular groceries. My goodness, this place was enormous! They had a huge produce section, meat/deli section, bakery, dried fruit/nuts, and candy sections. Everything was displayed nicely but seemed a little pricey. ($10 for 3 artichokes - no thanks.) The meat section had some neat take and bake items like meat pies and seasoned fish. Their cheese section was also intense and tasty looking. Oh, and they had an olive bar. Not all of the olives were labeled, which really made me wonder what type of cheese was stuffed in those green olives, but still looked delicious. I'd love to come back here and try one of the meat pies. read more

Fresh Market is for the upper crust who have money to burn. UNLESS you just want a cute or seasonal item or thoughtful gift. I would never do my regular shopping here. Seeing the other reviews, the quality and price don't match. But, FM is good for some novelty items. The lo fat blueberry muffins have never disappointed me. The spicy angel hair pasta in the pre made salads is a winner. The bulk candy bar is fun and so are the seasonal knick knacks up front and the candy display. I stop in here for fun, not to fill my grocery list. I imagine this is the case for many, which makes me wonder about turnover and freshness, and if they'll stay in business. Anyway, until then, I'll still pop in for a pumpkin or some old fashioned candy or a specialty brew...just not for any staple items. read more

So I stop by for first time to grab cheese, ham and sugar and maybe one or two more things when I got amazed by the high prices low quantity, regardless to say I still grab what I needed as I'm already there but what really shocked me and made me make this review is by the paper thin cuts of ham and cheese, I mean yeah prices are like 11$ a pound but why tf that cut is so thin I got home and I'm making a sandwich with 3 pieces of cheese and 3 of ham. Think Whole Foods. I'm not sure if they're affiliated with Whole Foods but they resemble their layout. You've got high quality, organic choices here. Yes, they tend to be more expensive but in this case, you get what you pay for. Many of the items I buy here are pretty equivalent in price to the larger grocery chains. They tend to have samples throughout the store including my favorite, a coffee sampler right when you walk in. Always happy to spike my caffeine levels on the free. Fruits and veggies here are high quality and mostly organic. My son enjoys their bakery items and I usually pick up sushi rolls here, which are pretty good. As someone wearing a prosthesis, I went to Fresh Market to see what they have offer in a much smaller footprint. We do much of our shopping at Costco or Sam's Club, but there are some things you don't want in bulk. The vegetables are very fresh and can be purchased in amounts more in line with what two people can eat. In many ways the store reminds me of Costco but on a much more personal level. They carry a lot of the organic foods. The deli, meat counter and Bakery also seem to offer the shopper quite a bit with a smaller footprint. read more

Fresh Market, I gave you another chance when your "fresh, organic" strawberries came home with mold on them. My mistake for grabbing a moldy box of strawberries from your store? I gave you another chance when your deli meat went shockingly rancid after one week. I gave you yet another chance when your sushi made me ill. Yeah, yeah, I know, grocery store sushi is never a stellar idea. I gave you ANOTHER chance when I paid $8 for a pre-made salad that was full of limp, soft, wilted lettuce and spinach. But today is the day I vow to never patronize your establishment again, after finding a dead fly in yet another $8 pre-made Strawberry Spinach salad. A FLY. It's February - dead of winter in Illinois. I haven't seen a live fly in more months than I can count. Disgusting. Last straw. I immediately called Fresh Market and cancelled party platters I had planned on getting tomorrow for my daughter's birthday. I gave this place so many chances because I actually used to like getting their "fresh" fish, "fresh" meats, and "fresh" produce since, as anyone in the area knows, we're severely lacking organic options around here, particularly in the winter. But now I seriously question how fresh their products are, especially after reading some of these reviews. Their customer service has always been awful, but since I prefer to be ignored and left alone by employees anyway, it didn't bother me as much as the fact that their food will wreak havoc on my digestive system and wallet. I wish I had one good thing to say, but I really don't. I've never tried anything from their bakery, so that could be decent. Overall, you're honestly better off going to Super Target or Jewel. This store is similar to Wild Oats or Whole Foods. You walk in and it's like you are walking into a luxury grocery store. The produce here is phenomenal! They have exotic fruits, veggies and even TRUFFLES! They also have a different type of coffee to sample daily that they grind fresh. The deli is amazing, from the great salads, rotisserie chicken and other already made sandwiches and soups to take home. They also have an impeccable seafood and meat counter with knowledgeable staff. Another thing that makes them stand out above the rest is a great sushi chef, you can just go up to him and ask him to make you a fresh roll and it will be ready in less than 10 minutes. They also have a bakery with delicious desserts. This is also a good place to go to find organic everything! The dairy section is excellent for this. They also have a small olive bar that you can taste before you buy! And the cheese selection...to die for!! A few other things, I told you this place is amazing! They have a wide variety of imported beers and wines to mix and match according to your taste. And finally the bulk section, from nuts and trail mix to raw sugars and candies. This place is a great place to splurge a little on GREAT ingredients and deal with a very friendly staff! read more

We stopped in here to grab some specialty meat for a family member right before Christmas. Cute little shop - they have a lot of gourmet things, but seemingly nothing exactly like what we wanted. We got the meat (which was mostly sold out) and squeezed our way out the tiny isles. --also I remember a bunch of morons outside in the parking lot. People who didn't know how to wrangle their giant SUVs/spaceships into regular-sized parking spots... I guess that's the suburbs, right? read more

Well my wife and I had a taste for what we thought would be a great steak on the grill. She bought the 34.95 per pound premium filet. Big steak = big great food! NOT. CHEWY, grainy and not as good as Jewel! Filet mignon should melt in your mouth. Far from it. You could see the vertical grains when I cut it. She got some teramasu also and it had no taste. After losing my beloved Fresh Market in Glen Ellyn, I trekked out to Geneva and shopped at this Fresh Market for Thanksgiving dinner fixings. I pre-ordered my turkey with the meat department and they could not have been nicer on the phone. I was able to find everything I needed for my dinner...everything was very well-stocked. Employees were very friendly and helpful, even though the store was quite busy. Although I live a distance away, I will be back for occasional shopping trips here to get my Fresh Market 'fix.' read more

Sign on crab cakes read "buy one get one free." So my friends got four. Cashier didn't know how to ring it up. He went back to the meat section and was told that sale was for Saturday only (it is Sunday.) A female supervisor told the cashier not to honor the sign. She hustled back to the meat dept, before I could get back to take a picture, to remove the sign. When my friend got back to show me where the sign was it was gone. However, the butcher saw the sign on the back counter and said, 'If the sign was there we will honor it!' He walked to the checkout with us and told the supervisor and manager to honor the sale. Obviously if I could give this 0 or negative stars I would because last week I got a container of smokehouse baked beans that doesn't list it has meat in it but does. When I was at the store I checked the label twice because I was actually surprised it didn't have any meat in it as it lots of times sides such as this do. Anyway a few days ago I finally got around to eating it. I ate about 5 bites and sensed something off. Then I tasted meat and saw some stringy beef in there and was extremely disturbed because I'm a strict vegetarian and have been for years. I'm very upset this happened. There isn't really any room for error on stuff like this as I'm sure other vegetarians would agree, they would be traumatized to eat meat not only because of their morals but also because they are disgusted by even the mere thought of doing so. So that's where I am with this. If I had ate more meat I could have gotten sick and thrown up because my body isn't used to it. While this wasn't physically harmful to me it was extremely emotionally distressing. I sincerely hope that people who don't eat beef due to their religion don't end up in my situation. Also what if someone had an allergy to an ingredient that wasn't listed in one of your deli dishes and they ate it. Very negligent and dangerous! read more

We ordered the precooked Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings this year and could not have been more pleased. Everything had to be reheated yet the both the turkeys we got were not dry at all. The reheating instructions were very helpful. The mashed potatoes were a little dry but it was an easy fix with added milk and butter. (I prefer whipped vs. mashed) All of our 12 guests were happy. Stress free and delicious, I think we found a new tradition! It also was surprisingly affordable! read more

I have been coming here the last year to buy certain items, since becoming allergic/intolerant to many foods. I love their Tuesday sale on antibiotic/hormone free chicken breast for $2.99/lb & ground chuck for $2.99/lb. I will also sometimes get the grass fed beef as well. Their anti-biotic free milk is good priced, as well as the Fage greek yogurt I prefer. The do have some deli meat offerings without nitrates, and anti-biotic/hormone free meats. Their produce selection is decent, and the prices are not too bad. I love their heart healthy trail mix, and have tried others, that are just not as good. The carry a brand of tortillas there, that are my husbands absolute favorite. Nice selection of Kevita drinks, that I am totally addicted to. Not my only grocery store, but one of my main stores. read more

Fresh Market is great!! First of all, they have an a-may-zing candy selection. I'm a total fruity/gummy candy junkie and they do not disappoint. Gummi bears and the Australian licorice are some of my faves. They offer these delectable treats in both prepackaged (lb-ish) bags or in bulk bins, depending on how much of a sweet tooth you have. Also in bulk bins are assorted pretzels, nuts, trail mixes etc. The produce is great, although some of it is a little pricey here, they offer a great selection of apples that are huge, crispy and delightful (Golden Delicious are my favorites). Other highlights here include their butcher counter (very helpful and knowledgeable staff, esp Don), the seafood bar (try the seaweed salad with big ol hunks of tuna), and the sushi chef, who will accommodate your wishes should you choose something they haven't prepared already. Oh..the olive bar-- garlic stuffed are awesome, and they also have marinated mozzarella that is to die for. The staff is always nice and the lines seems to move quickly even during busy shopping hours. Overall this place is great, sure a little pricey for certain things but def worth it in my book!! read more
