Shopped here for groceries for first time in three years; I used to go often. Reason for not shopping here regularly now: The location is no longer convenient. Thirty minute drive. However, recently we have used their pick up-catering and this lead to writing a Yelp review. We have ordered their wraps twice in the past 3 months for gatherings. The quality and presentation were great. Guests praised the taste and ate every one. You pick assortment; $72. a tray. We also ordered mini muffins and croissants. The muffins were not worth the cost. Fresh Market has good sales each week and a frequent customer reward program. We were big fans of their signature healthy store made chicken salad. In the past, I would pick up "meal plates with one protein and two sides" when they were on sale on Tuesdays. Other Pluses: The selection of premium coffees bagged and ready to grind is extensive. The deli counter has quality products. The meat and seafood departments are first rate. Ready to serve/eat food section is excellent. They offer drive up pickup. Lots of spices available. On 4/21 bought a "Prime" NY strip steak, to treat myself. 12 oz about $17. I couldn't chew most of it. It was filled with connective tissue. Not sure how steak that is classified as "prime" could possibly be this bad, or mis-labled by a market. read more

My experience so far has been hit and miss. The main draw for me is the deli section, and that's also where they dropped the ball with the curry chicken salad which was rancid and forced me to take it back for a refund. The overcooked chicken certainly didn't help, and I'm not sure how much they care, or if they do, about their deli food being returned, because when I took it back the first response from staff was, "do you have the receipt?" Otherwise, their egg and potato salad, clam chowder, and butternut squash with pecans and cranberries were all tasty, so I guess it's been more hits than misses. This rating is just for this purchase. I would rate the store itself much higher. I purchased two PePe Fromage Pizzas. The crust was nice and crisp, but there was hardly any topping on it. A little ricotta spread then hardly any mozzarella and four small pieces of fresh basil. More like a crisp flavored flatbread. It smelled good but was disappointing. For the second year in a row, we chose to have Fresh Market supply our Thanksgiving meal. Utilizing their Holiday Meals webpage, we selected the Essential Holiday Meal ($69.99) which serves 3 to 5. There are only three of us, so this was perfect. There were plenty of leftovers to enjoy. We were obviously pleased enough with our meal last year that we decided to return. Our Essential meal consisted of: Fully Cooked Turkey Breast (3 lb) Yukon Gold Whipped Potatoes (2 lb) Traditional Herb Stuffing (2 lb) Homestyle Turkey Gravy (30 oz) Green Bean Medley (1 lb) Cranberry Relish with Walnuts (8 oz) There were also a la cart options available from which we added Oyster Stuffing ($12.99) and Roasted Butternut Squash with Pecans and Cranberries ($9.99). Complete reheating instructions were included with our order. The turkey breast was moist and flavorful, the whipped potatoes were creamy and tasty, the traditional stuffing needed more spices for my taste, but was perfect for my sister-in-law. The oyster stuffing was perfect for me with lots of flavor. The gravy had lots of flavor, the green beans were average, and finally, both the cranberry relish and the butternut squash were delicious. We had selected a window of time to pick up our meal the day before Thanksgiving. There were signs directing customers where to go to pick up online orders. They were well organized and promptly retrieved our order. We may want to consider Fresh Market for our Christmas ham dinner. read more

The Fresh Market is simply the best high quality food market in the Capital Region. The fish, meat, delicatessen, and bakery sections are excellent. It is a good resource for gourmet items. While Whole Foods is more extensive (and, has the area's best cheese offerings, and better produce) the Fresh Market is a less claustrophobic shopping experience. On a downside the produce is very limited and very expensive. I find myself making regular pilgrimages here (I sorely wish one was in the Town of Bethlehem, which sorely needs a good food option.) Some of the distinctive items are available as the chain is based in the South (e.g. the availability of Duke's mayonnaise, a truly excellent condiment.) The deli, bakery, and meat/seafood personnel are warm, welcoming, and very helpful. The cashiers can be either very nice, or very indifferent, which is a buzz kill after the shopping experience. read more

The Fresh Market in Latham, New York will no longer receive my business and or the business of my family, friends and neighbors due to its pervasive pattern and practice of racial discrimination/practices and cultural bias against customers and it appears employees (see Yelp Review). Suffice it to say, that as a person of color--I've experienced (repeated) discriminatory treatment and service that was racially motivated and when brought to management's attention was dismissed and blatantly denied. From being blatantly ignored when seeking service at the different department counters to being severely humiliated by being falsely and publicly accused of shoplifting by the checkout clerk! I would encourage others who care about social and racial justice to not support this business until they expeditiously respond, address and correct this matter. Beyond it's outward inviting appearance of a welcoming upscale/boutique grocery store in an affluent/suburban location -- The Fresh Market in Latham,NY is anything but that to customers and (it appears) employees who are African American. They try to pass off other kinds of fish instead of what is labeled in the case. We thought we bought stripped bass only to find out it wasn't. They gave us a piece of thawed previously thawed sea bass. They put it in the case behind the striped bass. We're not fond of sea bass. Were they saving the striped bass someone else? I have been here a couple of times in the past to do some shopping. It is a cross between a regular grocery store and a co-op, and it has that "healthy" vibe going on. The food isn't cheap, but if you want high quality products then it might be a good value. I don't come often but occasionally stop in with my wife when we want to have a fun date night. We won't do our regular shopping here, but we stroll through the aisles and impulsively grab things that interest us. Of particular note is that they have various options for ground nut butters, which I really like. I don't find the location convenient to where I live so I don't come very much. However, I don't have any complaints about the place. The Capitol District is blessed with a good assortment of supermarkets (though sadly lacking the big "W" from Rochester) but if your regular culinary routine is starting to turn stale perhaps a trip here might recharge your batteries. read more

Let me start this review by saying I'm biased very biased because I unabashedly love The Fresh Market! I'm a sucker for the classical music and low lighting. I swoon when I get my free coffee samples. What will it be today? Perhaps Salted Carmel or Cinnamon Hazelnut? It's a great place to walk around when escaping housework or teenagers. Now for the reality of shopping there. Yes it's overpriced (but they have lowered a lot of their prices recently) and some items aren't anything special. Who go as there for everyday items though ?!! You have to know how to shop there. I get ground beef and boneless chicken on Tuesday when it's 2.99 lb. and their meal deal on Thursday is also great for feeding my family of 5 when I'm just too exhausted for meal planning. I like all the seafood I've had and I love their specialty burgers. Other items my family likes include: the Cheddar rolls, olive bar, rottiserie chicken (have you ever had a price chopper one, yuck!), recently added wing bar and roasted pork. I also love their raw pumpkin seeds and roasted almonds. I've had some delicious fruit on occasion. I'm not wild about their sweet bakery it's just ok and I wish they would lower the price on their ice cream!!! My advice buy when things are on sale or whatever unique item tickles your fancy and enjoy the ambiance. Save the ketchup, saltines and chicken stock for BJs or Hannaford. read more

We come here for the ground beef and chicken special on Tuesday. Not happy they raised the price to $3.99 and if you're a "member", the price is still the same. What I really dislike are the huge, tough chicken breasts on special! What are these????? Stewing chickens? And you can't find a smaller package either. I must say the meat counter guys have improved. Not too long ago, the counter was staffed by surly meat guys who would roll their eyes if you wanted a smaller package of meat......like it was an imposition to wait on you. We even had a few of them throw the meat package on the counter and tell me to come get it! Luckily those people have been replaced by more service-oriented people. And speaking of meat.....here's my complaint: the rotisserie chickens have been chintzed down considerably. We used to be able to get 2 meals out of a rotisserie chicken. Not any more: they are now half the size BUT the price is still $8.99 plus tax! Tasty yes, but we won't be buying them any more. FYI, the delicious-looking cakes you see in the bakers cases are previously frozen! What a disappointment. Won't make that mistake again. Finally, the ambiance of the store is nice: quiet, rarely any screaming kids. On that point alone, it is worth doing "some" shopping there . Lovely, higher end market reminiscent of an Amazon Fresh or Whole Foods. Many fresh food options but I didn't see a lot on different breads - mainly white breads. Interesting candy options as they had a whole display centered around different taffy varieties. Read the ingredients as they had a lot of cool brands that sounded good on the packaging but had a lot of hidden sugars and not so great ingredients. Location was clean and very busy. I wouldn't do my normal groceries at this location due to the higher prices but it was great to pop in and grab a few items, especially harder to find healthier items. read more

Got 4 of the Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes for my husband who loves crab. He was terribly disappointed in them due to the fact he couldn't take a bite without crunching into shell pieces. I understand this happens but every bite? They aren't cheap (even on sale) and I was so upset to have picked up a thoughtful dinner he would love, only to have him upset by the constant crunch of crab shell. I'm a fairly hardcore veteran of Trader Joe's and Whole Foods, being a recent Californian transplant, and thus my experience of The Fresh Market is probably inevitably going to be in contrast to these two bookend stores with similar, but hardly identical, approaches to better food. As a general type, The Fresh Market is indeed wedged between Whole Foods and TJ's. It's smaller than Whole Foods but bigger than most TJs. It's got regular grocery departments like Whole Foods but has a higher proportion of processed foods. There are smaller dry goods sections (such as personal care) than WF, this type of thing being virtually non-existent at TJs. I may be overgeneralizing here, but it did seem like a "medium" option to TJ's bargain- and processed-food and Whole Foods' high-end-everything Whole Paycheck approach. There are a couple of problems with The Fresh Market, which I strongly suspect are localized and "break-in" issues, so I'll deal with the complaints at the end of the review. First off the good stuff, which predominated my experience. The produce is excellent. Good organic brands, not as big a variety as Whole Foods, but more than TJ's and more on the fresher side. Certainly the best winter produce I've found in the region since coming here, which is going to bring me back. And the prices are (generally) cheaper than we typically had at Whole Foods -- this is a straight Apples to Apples comparison (literally, in some cases). The meat selection for red meat and poultry was decent, with good free range and natural alternatives and a reasonably wide selection at, again, better prices for some similar items than Whole Foods had but not quite in the bargain hunting level the non-organic TJ's items usually are. I like the layout of the store. It's easy to see where things are, the aisles aren't endlessly confusing, the "gourmet" and prepared food areas are in circles you can easily get around, and in general the lighting and mojo are good, right down to the piped in classical music. I didn't buy any of the prepared foods but they looked appetizing and there looked like a good variety. The checkout lines are a little confusingly blocked by bumper ends, though, and there's not a lot of negotiating room at the end to get your stuff together. That said, it's an improvement on both the typical Whole Foods and TJ layouts. Some nits, followed by criticisms. The "gourmet cheese" section is what I'd call Safeway-quality - hardly anything really unique, and I couldn't find local cheeses (I looked hard, maybe I missed them, but they weren't highlighted). The "bulk foods" area is small and is really emphasizing things like trail mix and not grains, seeds, pastas, and so forth the way Whole Foods does. The seafood section was pretty discouraging - just as bad as the Hannaford-Price Chopper-Shop Rite universe. In general, items were in smaller sizes or with fewer brands than a bigger store could support; for instance I couldn't get organic milk in gallon sizes, and the only California olive oil was flavored. Now I'm going to beat you up a little, The Fresh Market. The staff were pretty clueless about food, across the store. The seafood guy didn't know what I was talking about when I asked about sustainable fish or mercury counts. The butchers were a little unclear about cuts and origins of the meats. The produce guy was nice but couldn't tell me how old some of the stuff was and made some errors on the origins of the food. In general they seemed badly undertrained for a higher-end food store. If you're going to use quality as your niche, you better support it with staff who know the food and can sell it for you. Then there was the "coffee problem". I stopped in the middle of the store to get some coffee, where the urns appeared to be self-serve. No cups in sight. Absolutely no staff to be found anywhere near the coffee area. So I got out my own travel mug, something I've done 500 times at Whole Foods or Starbucks over the years, and poured myself a cup. Then, when I went to check out, the clerk was aghast I'd POURED MY OWN COFFEE INTO MY OWN MUG. She told me not to do that, and she had no idea how to charge me. I had to wait for a manager, who dithered a bit before having my coffee rung up as...fresh flowers? I was scolded NOT TO DO THAT AGAIN. So, I've just saved them a few cents for their cup, and prevented another styrofoam bullet from entering the environment, in part because I couldn't find any )#)@ cups to begin with and nobody to help me, AND I GET A #$#)@_@ING talking to? I mean, I got 10 cents back when I brought my mug to Bux, here I get the stink eye? C'mon folks you gotta do better than that. And, I got no bag refund for bringing my own bags. What's up with that? So, that said, relative to the area this looks like the only option for a lot of things in the organic food line, and it's not terribly overpriced, so I'll be back. I just am not going to buy the coffee if I value my life. read more

Removing one star... only one, because of a few things I'm quite picky about. I've been here maybe 6/7 times now. Most of the things I have purchased from here have been delicious and indeed fresh, However, I brought home a pineapple last night, looked at the bottom and there's a moldy spot. I bought large bottles of sparkling Voss the first night I visited a week ago, that have still not come back in stock since then. My daughter purchased some blackberries and said they had a musty taste. And I purchased some ready to eat salmon last night, that was absolutely fishy and dried out. Maybe because people don't buy it enough to replenish it and it just sits there? Their ready to eat chicken is great.. love the whole chickens and breasts. My daughter likes their garlic sesame wings.. spicy. I treated my pups to some of their ribs last night and they had no complaints! :) So basically a few things need tweaking and a bit more monitoring. Luckily they have amazing customer service and a fantastic return policy! read more

I'm now here about once a week. The Fresh Market has made it into a regular rotation, even though it's out of the way. It's not Whole Foods. It's certainly not Trader Joe's. It's not Wegman's. I think it's best to approach this store on its own terms. A lot of items are pricier than similar items one might find elsewhere. Sometimes this is because they are overpriced. But other times it is because The Fresh Market products are actually better. - Roast chickens that weren't fed antibiotics (when they were alive). - Prepackaged sliced cheese made without the use of rBST. - Grade B maple syrup (which is surprisingly hard to find here). They have tasty challah at the bakery (although they do come frozen for kosher reasons). The bakery even torches creme brulee to order. Get the pre-stuffed cannoli at your peril. Not everything is great, and the service especially at the bakery counter and the deli counter can be slow. The cheese selection is a major personal disappointment. But this is by far the nicest place to get groceries in the Capital Region. And if you have kids, they can get a card for the cookie club. Finally made it down to FM. Thanks to their policy of "if it's in a bin with a scoop you can sample it" I emerged about 15 pounds heavier. But also about $141 poorer (we stopped in to get salad for dinner) so I guess the joke is on me. The comparisons to Trader Joe's are apt. Rather than a full line market it's a curated selection with a lot of variety packed into a not-huge space. The difference is that while TJ is mostly house brand items, FM is a broader selection of brands. I didn't find anything outrageously overpriced. And there were some really nice sale prices. Whether you love or just like FM is going to depend on how much you agree with their selection process. I'd give five stars for the produce and the bulk bins, but found the butcher, bakery and deli sections fairly thin. (And more attuned to folks who want a semi-prepared meal to finish at home than those who are going to cook from scratch.) A special note to those from down south: they have both field peas (frozen) and Trappey's pepper sauce (chiles in vinegar, for dousing said peas). read more

Let's talk some baseball. I am no pitcher, but if Fresh Market was the opposing team, our team would pull off the perfect game. Today was my first time trying the place out, and I was highly disappointed. At first glance, the place looked welcoming and vibrant. I was drawn to the salmon deal that said buy one get one free for 5.99. I started to ask a question to the lady that came over about that deal. "How much would I need to get to get that deal...." She cut me off with something along the lines of, I'm helping this customer, you need to get a ticket. I definitely didn't act as if I was cutting in line, but she definitely made me feel like it. The answer probably would've take two words: "any amount." Decided that I'm not having salmon tonight. Strike 1. I then went over to try some coffee. They had some samplings which was nice. I was pretty satisfied with the pumpkin spice decaff, but not so much on the decaff. I asked the lady if there was a caffeinated pumpkin spice and she snapped at me saying that all the samplings were out in front of me. Strike 2 I went to the check out, thinking overall, my first impressions were really bad. A $3.79, 4.99, 5.99 came out to be 17.49. I was actually a little preoccupied with figuring out whether the cash register was wirelessly connected to the TV, so I took a look at my receipt as I was walking out. Now I know tax exists, but I didn't think I needed to tip my cash register. I wanted to talk to someone about my receipt because it didn't seem right, and I was charged for a 10.99 bulk item. As I went back to a register, the lady incessantly said, "I am closed after this customer, please find another register." I was holding my receipt and shopping bag, obviously not looking like I was going to purchase anything. But that didn't seem to matter to her. No customer service there. Foul ball. So I finally got someone to help me. He initially said, the 10.99 was a bulk item. Then he almost tried to convince me that the 10.99 was for the coffee, but I said, no that was 5.99. I usually don't remember prices, so that might've changed my mind. And then he came to conclusion that she accidentally pressed the wrong button. He gave me back the $11 in cash and said, "we'll call it even." No apologies. He wasn't rude, but it's nice to hear a simple sorry. I mean think about it, that was 3 products I bought. Most people buy a lot more, which makes the mistakes harder to check. Strike 3, game over. The ninth inning was the highlight of the game. Let me tell you, it was no easy feat, but I have decided, I am not coming back here by choice unless management makes trades for better players or maybe a Joe. I'll leave on a high note. In hindsight, I feel like I lowered my standards for buying stuff from them because I don't just buy a product; it's also about the service. I'm sure if they recruited Wegmans, their team would hit a home run. That's probably never going to happen, so I guess I'll have to wait on 79 Wolf. Please make that happen Colonie. The fresh market is Latham is a breath of fresh area to the area, it not only serves healthy things and gluten free things, but stuff here is downright delicious. The store is always nice and clean, employees always nice, and the best part? Free samples! I find myself going here a lot for bakery items and delicious wraps, the buffalo chicken wrap here is the best and for 6 dollars you really can't go wrong. Chocolate items are a bit expensive here, but everything else seems priced fairly. I never go here and not buy anything, pies are also amazing. This is by far my favorite place to get groceries, they have items I never knew even existed. This place is usually packed some come early to get a good parking space. read more

I haven't visited the store in probably a few years, as I tend to do my family grocery shopping at a larger store with more selection, but thought I'd head over this weekend to see what kind of specialty items they had on a rainy day. I recall the store being very pretty inside, and I know that the bakery has some quality products, so I thought why not see what I had been missing out on. I have twin toddlers who I decided to bring along for a ride to get out of the house, and I have come to the conclusion that Fresh Market is definitely not a family friendly place to shop. When I first walked into the store, there were a ton of carts in the vestibule, which is great, but there were so many stacked up that there was only a small entrance and space to get into the doorway. So, I could not even enter the store with my double stroller (which is not even overly large, it was a compact umbrella style) without moving a couple of carts out of the way. I was never greeted by anyone in the store with a smile, nor was anyone around to offer any kind of assistance. My toddlers can be a bit loud, but they were generally in a good mood while we were in the store. My son did knock a few boxes of cookies off of a display, which I promptly picked up, but I felt the stares of the bakery employees after that occurred. I also noticed that there were cantaloupes on sale this week, and they were a good size, so I did buy one...I gave it to one of my kids to hold in the stroller, and shortly after, thinking it was a ball, they dropped it and let it roll on the floor. I picked it up, and was planning to purchase that same melon. But, again, I saw an employee give me a look of disgust that that happened. The final, embarrassing straw was when I went to checkout, and of course could not fit in the checkout lane. I had to walk around to the end, move a display, and come through the checkout line on the other side. Again, the employees were not friendly, nor did anyone offer to help move anything so that I could navigate my way through and pay. This had me thinking, what if they had a customer in a wheel chair? My stroller was probably the same width as one, so what do they do to cater to shoppers who may have a disability requiring one? I'm convinced that this store does not care to serve people with families, and is catering to the Loudonville elite - or at least that's what was projected on to me and my children. I've never felt more anxious or looked down on while out shopping! I will not be returning any time soon, and will make sure to tell friends of mine with young children about my experience. *Edited to add - I'm sure my personal experience is not the norm for most people. As I mentioned, the store is very pretty, and if you are looking for something specific, then sure, this may be the place for you. But for normal everyday items, I would stick to shopping elsewhere where the prices are more reasonable. read more

The Fresh Market in Latham is now open! ! My folks and I went to check out the Grand Opening. The place was mobbed due to the newness and being the first store in NYS. I've also shopped at The Fresh Market at Hingham Shipyard, south of Boston, which is a very nice store. The parking lot was full, so we had to park across the street. This market looks very nice. It's organized, bright and clean, not as big (sizewise) as the standard suburban supermarket chain (Hannaford & Price Chopper), but similar size as a typical Trader Joe's (which has good prices) and similar concept to the slightly larger Whole Foods Market. There are several departments/sections including good selection of fresh produce, freshly prepared foods (sandwiches, entrees, sushi), gourmet salads, meats, deli, cheeses, dairy, seafood, bakery, coffee, snacks, nuts, organic & healthy groceries, flowers, frozen foods, and more. The products sold here tend to be on the pricey side. However, the bakery rocks! I picked up some Almond Croissants and Chocolate Croissants for only $1.29 each and muffins for only 60 cents (regular price $1.09), a great bargain compared to Au Bon Pain where I normally get my sweet treats at double the price. I tried out some free food samples throughout the store including some cheese and BBQ spare ribs cooked on the grill outside, which were dry rubbed, chewy, and salty tasting. We will definitely be back to The Fresh Market in Latham since this is a fresh healthy alternative to the other markets in the area, which sell everything else including the inexpensive processed foods. When you are born and raised in Albany, Price Chopper and Hannaford are the only two grocery stores that really come to mind. A few years ago when Fresh Market announced they were making an entrance into the capital district I couldn't believe it. Having shopped at Trader Joes a few times out of state, I was hoping Fresh Market could bring some of the same qualities and selections. The store is quite small, compared to others, but contains almost everything most stores have. One of the main reasons I shop at Fresh Market is for fresh beef. Fresh Market carries Hereford beef which is known for being leaner and more flavorful compared to most beef. The full service butcher counter carries it all from filet to chimichurri skirt steak to premade gourmet burgers and much more. Every time I have purchased beef here it has been amazing and tasty. Fresh Market also has very good prepared foods. I have recently fallen in love with the curry chicken salad (thanks for the recommendation ;-)) and the baked potato salad is very good as well. They offer many other prepared foods such as fried and grilled chicken cutlets, meatballs, salads, and twice baked potatoes which I have heard are good. Other unique features are that you can grind your own fresh peanut butter as well as create your own 6 packs of beer, which is nice. Fresh Market can be a little more expensive than other places but if you are looking for quality items and don't mind the increase then this is the place to shop. read more

I'm SO pleased to have The Fresh Market in our area. With no Trader Joes, or Whole Foods of any kind we have been lacking any "fancy schmancy" place to shop. This place fills the void. They offer gourmet cheeses, fresh veggies, wonderful breads, amazing fresh meats, spices, sauce, oils, nuts, ooooooh.... and the COFFEE selection is a reason to go here all on it's own! Now granted, I'm not completely love struck. I do know that it's expensive, and the Organic selection is kinda small and expensiver (yes, expensiver is a word)... But they offer LOTS to make up for the few short falls. I love the Cage free Omega 3 eggs and Nitrate free bacon and deli meats. They have coffee samples out to taste daily. While there last week I tried the Pumpkin Spice flavor and fell in love! And as I walked around the produce section sipping my miniature cup of hot coffee the smell of pumpkin candles in the air, and the soft elevator music playing around me truly had me high. I was blissful.... very blissful. I went on my lunch hour to grab a few things. Stumbled across the Hot Soup section which had Turkey Chili amongst a few other options. I grabbed a small bowl. It was DEVINE! I added a sprinkle of salt, pepper, and Tabasco (just cause I like my stuffs spicy!). I was impressed with the meat chunks and cooked down onions and peppers in it. Very flavorful. I'd definitely get it again if the opportunity arose. The staff was incredibly nice. I interacted with 3 people that day: A guy at the butcher counter who was very friendly and took the time to walk me over to the Nitrate free bacon section out by the eggs. A lady at the cheese counter who explained to me the difference between some cheeses. And the cashier who after me telling him I was bummed they didn't have more organic fruits explained to to find them, where they usually are, and apologized for the inconvience. They were all Aces! The Fresh Market - Grocery Near Me - Latham, New York

The Fresh Market is definitely a gem in this area. Yes, I said "gem". I was eager to try it but waited a few weeks after it opened and went on a Monday evening. It was still busy, but nowhere near packed, and we had to wait in line for... oh, roughly 3 minutes. I was disappointed by it's small size, but I am still impressed overall. So, two stars for uniqueness, three stars for superb quality, minus one star for TFM's petite size and limited selection -- in some areas, anyway. The produce section was pretty extensive and everything was very fresh; far superior to any grocery stores I've been to in this area. If you enjoy sorting through bruised, overripe fruits and veggies, examining them extensively to pick out the best of the worst, TFM is not the place for you. The butcher and deli also had a lot of unique and hard to find items. And the bakery -- oooh, the bakery. I had to rush past it quickly and try not to splash any drool on the display case. Everything looked amazing. I may need to come up with an excuse to throw a party so I can buy some of that sweet, beautiful goodness. As a few other reviews mentioned, I was disappointed by the small size of the household section. They carried only a few eco-friendly cleaning products (Method), so I guess I'll have to keep going to Target for their broad selection. On the other hand, TFM is a true grocery store, so what can I expect? I want to note that TFM definitely focuses on *fresh* -- the produce, meats, cheeses and baked goods are the stars of the show. I don't think they have a single freezer in the building. And although all the basics are minimally covered, I wasn't impressed with their selection of dry goods such as pastas, cereal, etc. I also wonder if they might extend their hours eventually. I'll admit I've been spoiled by 24-hr grocery stores, but it'd be so enjoyable to take my time perusing these absurdly narrow isles during off hours so that I wouldn't constantly have to move out of people's way. Seriously, the aisles aren't wide enough for two carts to pass each other. TFM's floor plan designers and shopping cart purchasers need to work on their communication. I use to work at the fresh market and when i used to work there ive experienced racism i didnt feel welcomed there as a worker.When i worked there it was around the winter time i remember i was working and i finished early so there wasnt much for me to do so i got to leave early, at the time it was snowing it was really cold outside so i went in the break room to wait on my bus it was 10 to 5 minutes away, so I got on my bus and went home. The day after when i was at work a manager came to me angry and said that they got me on camera not leaving when i was suppose to leave early and then she said i wouldnt be getting payed for the time i was in the break room waiting on my bus, and there was this other time when i just came in to work i clocked in and a manger stopped me and asked me what time i left work the other day, I didnt feel welcomed there i felt like they didnt want me there, there was this other time when i was in the break room and taking my 15 min break and a manger came to me asking if im on my 15 min or my lunch.To anyone who reads this im black i felt like they were being racist towards me and when i use to work there they had me shoveling snow and they didnt want to give me any hours when i was working there. I found this place by accident when the place I planned to go for lunch was not open. I ended up getting an amazing spinach, feta, berry and walnut salad that was incredibly crisp and fresh. I also got 2 chicken breasts from the counter that were perfectly cooked and well seasoned. I didn't get a chance to browse the store as I was in a hurry, but the prepared foods top notch. Before there were Trader Joe's and Whole Foods in the Capital District and when Honest Weight was small and not at its present time expanse, Fresh Market offered something "new" and could get away with its senseless isles and high prices, but it is hard to convince yourself to shop there now. On a Friday afternoon around 4:30 only one of the six cash registers was open. I had to wait over 10 minutes to buy one item and there were seven more people behind me and no manager in sight! I wonder how badly run places look like this stay in business! read more

Caveat Emptor, Check your bills! My wife and I have had more than several experiences in which what we were being charged at the register was not what we expected when we picked up the item. When we caught them at this, we have alway gotten the price that was on the shelf (except for the meat counter incident where they wanted to charge us a higher than shown price as the claim was that it was a more expensive cut of meat -- of course, if it had been marked with a higher price I would not be complaining, but the only price shown at the meat counter was the lower price). The frequency of these events means that we have to always be on guard. We do not have these sorts of problems at Hannafords or Trader Joes. read more

The Fresh Market or "TFM" as I call it is the closest grocery store to my house...in fact it's only like 5 minutes walking. This is a blessing and a curse, I routinely pickup dinner here but I also do alot of my regular grocery shopping here as well. It's a great store, with an excellent, friendly, and attentive staff. There is a great selection of foods and as the name implies it's all fresh. The first few times I came here I just threw stuff in my cart carelessly not looking at the price only to be shocked that I had just spent $60+ on some cookies, shish kabobs, avocados, beer and french bread. More recently I challenge myself to go into here and spend less than $20, it's hard. I'm glad TFM exists but make not mistake this is not an all encompassing grocery store, I think Trader Joes hits that mark better. TFM is good for what it is, specialty items but you'll be broke if shop here for your weekly grocery needs. I've created a list for of the dos and don't of TFM. ::-- The dos and don't of TFM --:: DO - Buy the produce here, it's fresh and not too much more than a typical big box place. DONT - Buy generic common items that you could get anywhere, generally they are $1-$3 more expensive (e.g. sandwich bread, milk, cola, paper plates). DO - Buy Sandwiches, roasts, soups other dinner items at the deli. You won't be disappointed. DONT - Buy $8.00 hot or BBQ sauce, it's disappointing. Google Rufus Tegue. DO - Get the fliers and monthly catalogs so you know what is going to be on sale during "two for Tuesdays", "Foodie Fridays" and "Half-Price Saturdays". P.S. TFMs down South can sell wine in their stores, aren't you jelly now? DONT - Go here hungry or slightly buzzed after happy hour, you'll see why at checkout. CHA-CHING. DO - Buy the bake goods, desserts and freshly made breads from the bakery. The cranberry corn muffins are "off the chain". DONT - Buy your beer here, there's an excellent selection and yes you can make your own 6 pack but the prices per item are $1-2 more than the distributor two minutes away with a better selection or even the Stewarts across the street. DO - Sample the coffee and whatever else they giving out it's usually delish. DONT - Buy the coffee unless it's on sale... read more
