I've been living in Middle Georgia for three years and somehow just discovered The Fresh Market. I have Yelp to thank for this life update, while in town casually strolling to see what grocery stores Macon had, it popped up in my search. When I lived in Atlanta, this was my go to grocery store, so imagine my excitement realizing there's one within a 35-mile radius of me now. Cue the happy dance in the parking lot. It's tucked into a large shopping center, so there's plenty of space to pull up, park, and prepare to spend more time (and money) than you originally planned. The moment I walked in, I was hit with the comforting aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, basically the grocery store version of a warm hug. On top of that, every employee I passed greeted me. Everyone was genuinely friendly and eager to help, which made the experience even better. I felt like a kid in a very upscale, health conscious candy store. If you're trying to eat better, this place makes it dangerously easy to stay on track. They have everything, fresh squeezed juices, exotic fruits and veggies, prepared meals, plus a quality meat and seafood department. Don't even get me started on the baked goods and yes they offer vegan and gluten-free pastries, self control was tested. I was especially impressed with their dairy free selection. There were plenty of yogurt and milk alternatives, which made this non-dairy girl feel seen and supported. One of my favorite parts was the snack displays. There were so many unique, better for you options that I hadn't seen anywhere else. I grabbed a bag of herb-seasoned popcorn on a whim and let me tell you, it did not disappoint 10 out of 10. The store itself is quaint, but don't let the size fool you I easily spent an hour exploring, especially the seasonal items. Between the fresh flowers, quality products, and overall inviting vibe, this place is officially back in my rotation. It may be "close ish," but it's absolutely worth the trip. read more

This particular Fresh Market is located in a nice sized shopping plaza, so parking was not an issue. The service is professional and friendly and it has a nice enough ambiance to it. I picked up some chocolate as a little treat to myself while here. All in all, this was a positive experience. read more

I like the store for the most part. You can get some quality items here and some unique ingredients as well. The one issue that I have is the breads. They break up their bread and sell 4-5 slices by the pound. I ended up paying $4 for about 5 slices of bread. I think that's a bit on the absurd side. It would be a deterrent from going here again for me. I would have to need something very specific. read more

Really liked this market - had a good amount of organics, lots of interesting and unique foods (crackers, cookies, chocolate, Christmas foods, imported, etc), nice selection of gluten free things, and an ok selection of domestic wines but only a few imported wines. Living in Houston I had Whole Foods; this place is the equivalent! And I love it! The classical music playing in the background sets the mood. There is a coffee bar set up at the entrance to sample their blends and/or pour a cup ($1). The fresh vegetable and fruit section looks like a painting with everything full, fresh, and vibrantly colorful. There was a sales gentleman who brought around fresh guacamole in which we ended up buying some. There is an olive bar in which we were able to sample several varieties; I personally loved the cheese stuffed jalapenos and the prosciutto wrapped mozzarella and olives. In the center of the store is a full deli with cheese samples, sushi, deli meats, sandwiches, pot stickers, etc. The list goes on. There are several cuts of fresh meat behind the counters including stuffed chicken breasts (which I will definitely be saving for for my next journey). In the back of the store are the pastries and sweets. We tried the banana bread, blueberry bread, and pineapple coconut...all of which were delicious! The wine and beer selection will take you a few minutes to peruse as they have several different ones to choose from. In all, set aside some money for a splurge and promise you won't be disappointed. read more

We drove to shop here from other reviews. Probably will not go out of our way again but will swing in if we are close by. It has been a challenge moving to rural Ga to find the quality of produce and fresh food that we were used to. Their seafood is mostly previously frozen. So excited I found this location!!! I just started a new nutrition plan and eating out can make that a little tough. However, Fresh Market is great for having prepared meals/options available for purchase...SCORE! Now this location is a little smaller that the ones back home in the Orlando area. But none the less they got the job done. One evening I went in for the burbon salmon...delicious! I also had the jumbo shrimp cocktail...yummy! They are also great at allowing you to sample any of the prepared sides before your purchase...Winner! My food was so good on Wednesday, that I went back for more on Thursday! Great Fresh Market, it was one first experience shopping at this location and it was quite pleasant, the staff were super helpful and went the extra mile to make sure my shopping needs were might. Next time that I am back in the Macon area I am definitely going to shop here again or fresh groceries. I'm sure it's been said in previous reviews, but this place is basically a miniature Whole Foods. Even the logo is pretty much identical to that of Whole Foods Market (same font and it's called "market" too). I like Whole Foods, so I like this place too! Obviously the prices are going to be high, but this supermarket carries more specialty foods than you'll find at your basic supermarket. They have a seafood salad bar, an olive bar, pickles, and lots of pre-packaged but fresh foods like sushi, sandwiches and wraps, crab cakes, chicken dishes, etc. They offer free samples of their coffee. I tried the TFM signature blend and thought it was great! I'm pretty picky with my coffee, but realllly enjoyed this blend. 4 stars! read more

My past two experiences were both online orders with delivery by Instacart. Both proved to be better than expected. Since I didn't want substitutions with my order, I called ahead, ringing each dept (bakery, deli, and seafood) to make sure they had the items I wanted delivered to my Mom. Penny in the Bakery Dept was friendly and so helpful. When I ordered a cake for Mom's 90th birthday, and asked Penny to write Happy Birthday on it, she wasn't sure there would be enough room, so I then said 'well, then just put Happy 90th on it.' Mom received the cake with the full 'Happy 90th Birthday' inscribed on the top. The ultimate crab cakes are absolutely delicious, as are the quiches. The Fresh Market is a bit expensive, but for those specialty food items, it's well worth it. And the staff have always been more than helpful. Great grocery store! read more

Shopping at Fresh Market (Macon Ga) was an experience I will never forget. This store is on a level I have never seen. Gorgeous store run by a team of people that made the experience that much more special. The staff was so helpful & friendly. You do not feel like your in a grocery store. It felt like I was on vacation at a resort. Seriously best store I have ever been in. Can we take a moment and take in that intoxicating aroma that goes throughout the entire store? Closest thing to a Whole Foods and Trader Joe's in middle GA "y'all!" = ) Personally, I like saving money when grocery shopping and I must admit, majority of the products here are marked up but that is expected (you can find cheaper quality versions in other stores). We usually come to this store to get their breads/pastries which are really tasty and I have found to be better than Public or Krogers. Specifically, the croissants are good, so is the cranberry orange loaf. I was pretty happy to find some unique desserts such as cookie dough that you can eat straight out from the container (no need to bake), and skir (Icelandic yogurt). We also get their CA lemonade because - CA. hah hah. Overall, this is a good break from the rest of middle GA- it is nice to get an urban shopping experience in the amidst the backdrop of the rural area. Recommend you check the place out. read more

No one can deny that Fresh Market has the loveliest atmosphere of any grocery store, and that the employees are super friendly. The produce, though, is overpriced and no better than Kroger's. They do carry some specialty items that Kroger doesn't carry--like figs and Meyer lemons--but they're usually exorbitantly expensive and nothing I'd buy on a regular basis. Fresh Market also frequently runs out of basics like regular-sized limes. My big complaint concerns the items that are made in-house. Everything I've ever purchased from the deli has been way over-seasoned and over-salted. It's expensive stuff, and I usually end up throwing half of it away instead of saving it for leftovers. I once bought their rosemary rolls (advertised as a house speciality), and the top of the rolls was so encrusted with sea salt crystals that they weren't even edible. read more

This location has seen better days. They used to be a miniature Utopia in the middle of GA. Now, they're no better than your regular grocery store. They still have some items that some stores may not carry, however, with the usual chains expanding their selection, it's starting to not be the case. There's really not much here to come for anymore. It's just an overpriced grocery store at this point full of things you can get elsewhere, and sometimes better quality, much cheaper. You shop here just to say you have done it and to feel bougie. Other than that, you're wasting your money. I used to feel like a kid in a candy store when I came but now it's just blah. The produce isn't as fresh as it used to be and the selection now leaves much to be desired. If you know what this place was like in its glory days, you'll soon walk out and just go somewhere else. I also dislike that a lot of novelty items they used to sell that were hard to find, they stopped carrying them and now I have to go online for the things that I used to shop here for. This market was not bad. The atmosphere is very relaxing, classical music in the background, welcoming sign in the front, flowers and candy in the front like Trader Joe's or Sprouts. And a bit like Whole Foods. The prices are somewhere in between Whole Foods and Trader Joe's. I liked that they have lots of organic variety, and they tell me about the specials on the organics. The manager even mentioned that the 1 lb organic spinach clam shells can get down to $3.88. I was sold!!!! We salivated in front of their seafood bar, but for $12.99/lb, we decided to skip. The olive bar had nice roasted garlic chunks; it was a large selection for $9.99/lb. The dessert section was nice, and the meat section was nice. They were very helpful whenever I had a question. I wanted a larger selection of organic tetrapak soymilk, but I didn't see much. There was also a small selection of corn tortillas, so I will have to get those somewhere else. Overall, this will be the place for me to shop when I need to get my veggies and meats. When I was there, some of the products did NOT scan correctly, so I had to eye my receipt, and I heard other customers say that some of their products didn't scan right. If you find something scanned wrongly, they are quick to make a change. read more

I love shopping at Fresh Market--if you're a smart shopper, you can pick up some awesome deals on higher quality meats, snacks and produce, not to mention some items that are harder to find in the Middle Georgia area. I know this is common sense, but if you're shopping for just a few people for, say, smoked salmon, instead of buying an 8oz package at Publix that you won't be able to eat all by yourself, you can get 2oz from the seafood bar here! It's nice to have that option. They also do a great job of offering samples of new products and cooking explanations. read more

But when times get hard and the normal all time customers fall on hard times, we are shunned as we find ourselves on welfare due to the economy. How can they get away with discriminating against those that receive food stamps? The money is the same and they don't have to pay service fees to receive the funds. Expensive, but well worth it for the selection of some of the specialty items. I love their bakery and deli, although some of the salads are hit-or-miss. As far as dry goods go, this is the only place to reliably find good organic quinoa, which is a staple for me. They also carry a great variety of pickles, olives, canned veggies, and sauces. I'm a big fan of the prepared sandwiches. Run in from the ambulance, grab one, bottle of water right across the way, quick to pay, healthy lunch. The meat and seafood department leaves something to be desired for me, however. All this other stuff in this store and you have *two* lamb cuts to choose from? I don't want or need a frenched rack of lamb every day. (OK, I lied, I do want it every day.) Sometimes all I need is a shank to braise or some shoulder. Also $9.99 for grass-fed beef is highway robbery when I can get it for $5 or $6 direct from the farmer at the Mulberry Street market. Seafood selection is great when it's in season, meh when it's not. (Seriously, it should be a crime to even freeze tuna or salmon, much less sell it like that.) I also recently bought a pound of shrimp that were advertised as 21-25... I got 34 shrimp. And although they were advertised as "fresh" the female specimens I got were full of roe when peeled/deveined, something that should not happen outside mating season (I bought the shrimp in April, mating season was all the way back in November). read more

Love this store! Their produce is amazing! Very fresh and the department is set beautifully. They have a nice seafood selection and great meat selection. Their bakery is out of this world! The fresh breads and cakes and cookies! This is a gourmet style grocery store so they have some of the higher end cooking ingredients. I always buy my ribeyes from here. I've seen this store many times while in the area but rarely have stopped in until recently. The major con I see with this store is that it's not closer to my house. It does have the feel of a whole foods atmosphere with the dark ceilings and track lighting but I don't think near as pricey. In fact, I'll have to come back and compare prices but believe this to be a little cheaper than Kroger. They're not as big but have items that Kroger used to have but no longer does. On the general atmosphere, clean, trendy, music in the air but not deafening, friendly staff, well arranged. It's odd to be looking in the produce section and have someone to ask if they can help you. I found their produce to be fresh and priced at or below what you'd see at Kroger. Plus, I believe that have a range of organic items throughout the store and not just in the produce. One thing I liked was they had bean sprouts. Now, they go bad fairly quickly and I can see why now with this economy the way it is, some stores just can't afford to stock them. This store does and they weren't half rotten either like up the road at that "natural" nasty store in that fancy shopping center. Large selection of beer at general prices. I look at a few brands to compare prices to gauge whether a store is at average, above or below. Guinness is a good indicator, I think. Under ten bucks for a six-pack and that's not bad for the Macon area. They do have an extensive wine department but didn't look that over so can't give an opinion other than a large selection. Saw there deli department but haven't tried anything there yet. While it did look a bit expensive per pound for some of their prepared foods, I would imagine if you bought KFC by the pound you'd see it about the same price. I didn't buy a lot. I had places to go and a car gets hot in the summer sun. But, when I checked out, the lady treated me like I'd bought a million dollars worth of stuff. I will have to do an update on this store after a few more visits but so far, I have to recommend going to it even if you just buy a few items because of the music, the atmosphere, the pleasant employees and just looking around you'll be in a better mood than when you walked in. read more

This is the swanky "macon will never get a whole foods" grocery store. It is expensive, but they have stuff you won't even find at Publix. Definitely give them a try for their fresh flowers and coffee selection. They also have all those nifty pay-by-the-pound snacks and candies. read more

I agree with Joe on the salads. Wow has that gone south. I use to have one 3 times a week. Now they have gone to $7.99 with limp lettuce, soggy croutons, and if you're lucky one half filled cup of dressing. (Usually they forget the dressing!)The salads on the deli bar look browned and old. Do yourself a favor if you want a salad. Drive on to Wendy's for $6.99- a chicken breast, pecans, apples & 2 dressing cups! Fresh market-you are losing your cool for me. :( read more

The fresh market is not what it is lived up to be. My wife and I have experienced spoiled food not once but twice in the form of cheese and seafood. While it tends to be decent the majority of the time the staff there is terrible and only adds to the dissatisfaction of your experience. Today the deli worker lashed out at me for not knowing what size macaroni and cheese I wanted when ordering it. I have been continually talked down to by the staff and will no longer put up with it. I'll proudly shop at Kroger or Publix as I find the quality comparable and the service 10 times better. You have lost a customer today because of the deli worker. read more

The problem with a store like this in Macon is that actually despite it's name almost nothing they sell is actually fresh, but past or nearly expired. It isn't the store which is the problem as it is a nice place only that there are not enough shoppers to keep the inventory moving. Nearly everything I have bought there is borderline expired and the specials are discounted for a reason. I enjoy going for the variety but really the freshest groceries are at Publix and the best deals are at Krogers. First time I've ever been here. I went in because I was looking to start on a more organic and fresher diet with my husband. When I walked in, it was great. I enjoyed the atmosphere, the music I could have done without. I went up to the fruit area to look at strawberries and blueberries. The strawberries were old and has fuzzy mold on them and the blueberries were rotten as well. It seemed like no matter what I looked into, none of the stuff in the produce section that was not packaged was fresh. Maybe I went in on a bad day, but I only managed to buy a couple things that came in bags and boxes. Kinda of an overpriced store, but it's fresh stuff. Ended up going to Kroger for the rest of my organic needs. May go back, but not for a while. read more

macon's answer to Trader Joe's or AJ's fine foods. beautiful store. divine smells. little pretentious but they're the only place i can buy my girlfriends yogurt so i shop there. the bakery/desert section is ridiculous and i avoid it at all costs, lest i become morbidly obese. sushi grade fish, some grass fed beef, and they have an awesome prepared meals section. everything is a bit on the expensive side, so get your essentials at a normal grocery and come here to feel uppity buying 'organic tahini'. read more

This Fresh Market is not all that fresh, and not all the employees are professional. Sometimes, my cashier and bagger converse and ignore me during checkout. Last night, I got treated to the cashier asking her bagger if she was "leaking". (I looked around to confirm I wasn't in Kroger.) After they talked to each other a little longer like I didn't exist, I deduced that the "leaking" would be from the bagger's breasts as "breastfeeding is cheaper than formula." My discomfort was clear but this particular cashier was not only unphased, she seemed determined to keep the subject in my face like a little social justice warrior advocating breastfeeding and I was going to have to hear about it. When I glanced at the bagger, she drew her jacket tighter around her breasts, like I was an intruder and had looked at them! (I'm a straight senior female.) As for the food, the steak is priced by the cuts you see (approx. 6 oz. or less), NOT THE POUND so read the placards carefully or you will think you have a deal when you have actually paid about twice as much as other supermarkets. Also, I have purchased vegetables and salads that are not fresh and seafood from the seafood bar that turned out to be spoiled from sitting under a hot light. The Deli help is often iffy. I've been noticed but ignored for several minutes in some game of chicken between them until one of them breaks down and helps but that is the same at Kroger. I limit my purchases to the breads, eggs, carefully picked salads (for my employer) and sushi but I check Publix first. read more

I must say, something has gone wrong with that prepared salad bar--the one that has the rotisserie chicken salads and coleslaws etc. Too many times we purchase from that counter and the salad has either already turned or we wind up eating something that turns the next day--just vile. Some of those salads are just old mountains of cold leftovers repurposed into an $8 a pound "Mediterranean" something or other. They can't possibly be making all of those salads daily.., Burned too many times-fresh mozzarella another souring issue-often choked down in some of the worst caprese salads I've ever assembled. And "Organic GA peaches" -$3.99/#? Such a mushy mess that I throw them out after just one bite wondering how a place called "Fresh Market", in Georgia, can't sell me a decent peach...one that I'm willing to pay ALOT for. Biting into that beautiful, impressionist peach made me feel like the sucker at a carnival, lured into thinking... I'll be a winner THIS time!...only to be left empty handed and with a wallet that's slightly lighter. Friendly, helpful staff make it more tolerable. read more

The Fresh Market is a great store but lately, their customer service has gotten awful ! I went to buy some flowers for my wife and the next day, they were dead ! My wife called the manager to complain and try to explain to him what had happened and he rudely interrupted her by saying " listen honey..." she couldn't believe it. He then had the courage to ask her to bring the flowers back so he could look at them and possibly " exchange " them but said they didn't do refunds at Fresh Market. I've been going to The Fresh Market since it opened, and am a fan of everything except the salad counter. I used to love getting their chicken & pasta salads, but lately they have been inedible. The chicken salad had so much pickle relish in it that it tasted like tuna salad and was ridiculously sour. The two pasta salads I got were doused in some much red wine vinegar (clearly someone forgot to mix it with olive oil!) to the point where the entire family threw their entire portions away after one bite. Someone is clearly not tasting some of the items before placing them out for customers, and simple things like salt and pepper or seasonings aren't being used. Hopefully the salads can be improved upon and brought back to a better standard, because right now it does not prove to be worth the high price. read more
