I purchased a pork chop plate over a bed of rice, cabbage greens, and sweet potatoes. It came with one small piece of cornbread and i also purchased a smapl drink. I was disappointed in both the price and taste. The porkchop was decent. It was a large size. But the crust just rubbed off. The crust was too soft or something. Its difficult to explain. The cabbage and sweet potatoes tasted like hospital food. The sweet potatoes were sweet but thats about it. When you eat at a soul food restaurant that has women who really know how to cook.. the dish will burst with flavor. The price was almost $17.00. That was way too much given the lackluster flavor and tiny portion sizes. The server was friendly but she shook the devil out of the serving spoon and i could tell management had more than likeky been on her severely to watch the portion size. I will be back to sample their other dishes. The staff was pleasant.

What's that old saying...? Don't judge a book by its cover. Well, this cover screamed meat and 3, c'mon on it! The staff were very friendly, the place was cozy with some communal tables in the building, and the food was fresh and hot. The hot bar worked well. I chose chicken and dumplings, cabbage (I love cabbage but family doesn't- so it is a treat when I am traveling without them), and Mac and cheese- fantastic. You can chose between a roll or cornbread. I chose the roll- it was fresh and lovely. My entire meal (with water) and tip... around $12.50. Great experience and a local gem.

I don't know where to start on this, if you enjoy southern food and southern hospitality, go no further besides being the most hospitable folks I have met. had fried chicken, collards and the famous Mac and cheese. Start with the chicken light and crispy skin, super juicy and tender meat. The collards were some of the best I have had ever eaten, a taste sensation, " try the famous and I heard this many times Mac and cheese it was the one of the best . They were not fooling and not to forget the corn bread . The manger makes you experience even better. Thank you all for a great meal and your great southern hospitality. If I'm even close to Macon I will make it back.

Salmon patties, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, chocolate chip pecan cookie, and a scratch-made roll.

Delicious! Some of the best Southern vegetables in the state. Baked goods are fantastic too.

This is a restaurant and a bakery. Serving homestyle cooking with baked goods and vegetables for sale as well. My companion and I opted for the salmon cakes. I had rice, field peas, pole beans, and corn bread. The food was really tasty. The dining room is not large. There is outdoor seating. It was nice outside so we sat outdoors. The baked goods were pounds cakes, cookies, brownies, fresh made yeast roles, and lemon bars. We bought cookies. They were all delicious. This place is off the beaten path. There is an antiques mall next door that looked like it would have been fun to visit. You go through the line and choose your food and find a seat. Other meats included fried chicken and there were other vegetables and starches to choose from. I'd go back!!

Fried chicken, mac n cheese, collard greens and a roll!

Staff is not friendly (specially kitchen workers). Food is mediocre and sweets are not good enough to consider visiting this place again.

You definitely feel the love with their servers. Extensive menu knowledge and very service oriented they aim to give you the best experience possible. So after a tasty cocktail and a very nice charcuterie board I went with the Crab and Panko Crusted Cod. Oh my goodness what a delicious entrée. A tasty crusted outside and so tender inside. And that lemon and miso creamed kale topped it all off. Definitely a place to try when in Macon. The only draw back is that it's up stairs on the 2nd floor with no elevator.

So on our way back from visiting friends at Lake Lanier, I as the passenger + navigator said..hmmm...we need a break but let's find soul food. I said. Who goes thru Macon and dont eat good. Not me. So, I hit Yelp. Then I asked AI. Claude. Claude gave me a list and there was the H! So we drove 20 minutes out the way. Best detour ever! Go early. Buy an extra meal for home. I gladly dropped my cash. ..salmon cakes made me cry....everything was off the chain. Well, I had my good juju on, I sat on a bench with a 30 year veteran of this place. She talked my ear off, what a delight. So the place is decked out in Allman brothers memorbilia. It was their early haunt as they rose to fame. Well the founder, older blk lady is dead. Her family smartly sold out to corporate. But it was worth it. They maintained all thats good. Even the tiny old bathrooms. Need an update for sure. But. .Definitely worth the visit. Parking was horrible! So go early! Now, you need to go by Macon cemetery. See Allman burial, civil war places. I want to explore Macon more now! Well, as we drove home, around Jacksonville, I reached in the back seat. No fork. Just a smile. Yes i fed my driver. Salmon cakes hit on all cylinders. Sadly the two meat plate left off my meat, turkey. But forgiven. I should have checked my to go order. Never trust. Always verify. Broke my own rules! Stop by. Soak up history, flavors in this quaint cafeteria style. Nothing fancy. Just pure delight!

Got the salad & it was a pretty underdone piece of salmon after asking for it well done. Asked the waiter why it wasn't blackened (out of curiosity) still ate it & called it good & told me we had to ask for it blackened. It was a very basic boring salad with a frozen piece of salmon for $20. My husband ordered a burger & fries. The burger was really good & he got goat cheese & bacon on it. The fries on the other hand were not it. Bummer because they are supposedly hand cut. They were drenched in oil. Like to the point that you couldn't even eat a few without feeling awful. They were soggy & heavy. Think homemade fries but in a super old fryer with lots of crisco. Overall very underwhelming for a place with such high reviews. Won't be back!
