I can't even make this up, every staff member we interacted with was incredibly rude and dismissive. The employee helping us was not helpful at all and seemed annoyed by every question we asked. I was asking about different cuts of meat, and instead of explaining them, he made faces as if I should already know the answers. You're a butcher, helping customers understand the products is literally part of the job. When I asked about ribs and how many I wanted, his response was, "Well, that's going to be $300," delivered with a sarcastic attitude that made us feel unwelcome. Throughout the entire interaction, it felt like we were inconveniencing the staff simply by asking questions. Customer service was extremely disappointing, and the rude treatment completely ruined what should have been a straightforward shopping experience. I bought a 19.6 pound NY strip. They gave me 11.4 pounds of steak. I called after I got home and they say it's "trimming the fat" If you are going to remove almost 50% of ANYTHING you ask the buyer what they want to do with it. Period. Weiss is one of the best butcher shops in Pittsburgh. They not only offer a wide variety of meat, but also seafood, packaged meat, and other stuff you wouldn't find in a regular market. They are a family owned butcher that knows what they are doing. Been coming here for years and love coming every time to get meat, whether for a cookout of just for myself and my wife. They sale in a bulk size therefore the prices may seem like they are a lot but broken down they are cheaper than a regular big market store. The meat is fresh, normally cut in the morning and ready to get sent out at the counter. BEWARE: Do not be on your cell phone at the counter they will not serve you, even with a ticket. Felt like a noob when i went in but took my ticket and waited my turn. Watching everyone order and how quickly they got what they needed was impressive! No fuss and they are willing to do what you need. The employees were all very personable to the customers! When it was my turn, i ordered 5lb of ground chuck and 4 lb of kielbasa. And no, there's no cows hanging from the ceiling or anything. Nothing resembling an animal... just the tasty protein they provide. If you have a big order, they recommend calling and pre-ordering. If you're just looking to check things out and pick up a few steaks, they offer that option too. They operate with the ticket system- Grab one and wait for your number to be called. During the weekends it can get pretty busy, but if you pre-order, you can typically walk in, grab your pre-order ticket (yes they operate on different numbers) and get out quickly. So, here's the deal about Weiss Meats. If you get the bald guy who works at the counter he's a bit gruff, but great service and makes it an okay experience. There is a short fat guy with an earring and facial hair who works behind the counter. He has remarkably poor customer service skills and is beyond rude to customers. He's offended pretty much everyone I've brought to the store. I'd do my best to avoid him. Honestly, though, Weiss Meats has nothing that you can't find elsewhere in Pittsburgh, and for butchers who are rude/mean when all you want to do is give them a couple hundred dollars and leave, it's not worth the time. It is such a good deal. You can order it however you want it cut, they had a large variety, and you can also buy whole cuts. I believe their website has their most current deals. We got filet, ground meat, pork butt, chicken wings, and flank steak. So far we have eaten some flank steak & filet. Very delicious and fresh! The filet cut so easily.
