I love grocery shopping and grocery stores! I was blown away when I came to this Giant Eagle because it is so much better than any I've ever been in. They have an entire section dedicated just to charcuterie!!!!! They have all kinds of mustards and jellies meats and cheeses. They have all the Pittsburgh shizzle you want and expect when visiting again after being gone for a bit. Parking is a nightmare in this plaza but I even tolerated that just to get inside and get to the things!!!! read more

I never leave a review but I felt that I needed to explain what happened this afternoon: I came to buy 10 Giant Eagle gift certificates. The cashier Jennie G was nice but unfortunately messed up with the gift cards. She said that a GC was not able to go through and asked me to get a new one so I did. She put away the one that was not working but she in fact loaded it with $100 and gave me an empty one. I realized this when I went home and started to compare the gift card numbers with the receipt and 2 did not match. I decided to go back and explain what happened. The manager on duty didn't even try to see where the cashier put the unused card (The cashier usually put all not sold articles in a cart) but the Manager didn't even look inside the cart and decided to watch the videos when I was there instead. He didn't even ask me for my receipt. The receipt could have shown the time I was there. Long story short, they all made me wait 30 minutes. I had enough and asked what the procedure was. Jennie explained that she put the card on a side and someone puts it in a cart. I asked another lady to look in the cart and she said that she already looked and couldn't find my gift card. I asked her to look again because she insist that it wasn't there. I then insisted to look at what was in that cart, moved a few things around and FOUND my card. I was dealing with incompetent employees who were not able to help me. They did not find my card. I found it! The manager was rude and told me sarcastically to have a good day. This isn't good. OMG how I wish we had Giant Eagle Market District stores where I live now. I remember going to the first one of these and fell in love with Grocery Shopping (that's a lie as I always loved it). Picture your normal grocery store, but with a more upscale decor, food stations where you can have lunch or dinner, more products to choose from, and a pretty slick beer area that manages to get around PA's terrible alcohol buying laws (one of the reasons I left the area). On this trip, I was looking for beer and snacks for the hotel and was able to find what I needed. It was September and there were lots of Pumpkin Beers to choose from. Winnie and her team did it again! I ordered a cake for one of my oldest and dearest friends Anna for her birthday on Valentines Day. I stopped in and visited Winne since she did such an amazing job on ky Christmas cookie baskets! We did a custome cake originally for 6 people of white cake with a strawberry suacr and freshed sliced strawberries inside with the whipped craam icing to taste more like strawberry shortcake. Then she had the outside of the cake to be cocered in white chocalte shavings. About a day before our party had grown from 5 to 9 and she easily changed the order and. Was able to accomodate us to the larger cake. I picked it up exactly when she said it was ready and it was really perfect and elegant. Thanks so much to her and her team. I will be sure to be getting my cakes from now on from Giant Eagle Marketplace Fox Chapel. We currently live in Forest Hills which is A pretty decent deive and there are lots of other bakeries in between but it's her seevice and professionalism that really makes it worth while. Patricia is a cashier , very rude , terrible customer service ,terrible attitude . She needs to quit her job and go lay on the couch and watch the price is right, she doesn't need to be working with the public. She has a foul mouth and she's very cocky. I'm surprised nobody has fired her, but I'm here to tell you this old woman needs to go. she makes the whole store look bad ,makes you not want to shop there. This is a large store but it has severely reduced its gluten free items. I talked to a senior employee who that he fields daily complaints about their reduction in these items and no complaints about reductions in vegan items. Since we have two family members with Celiac, I sometimes have to drive to the Wegmans in Erie. During the worst of the pandemic they did not make people in the pharmacy line wear their masks even though there were immunocompromised people wearing spacesuit like gear. I ended up transferring my prescriptions elsewhere. Today this store (right next to Fox Chapel) had a one day sale so people could restock due to multi day power outage. I pointed out that we lived near their store and that we would not get our power back until Tuesday or Wednesday. I was told that it was a corporate policy and they would not extend the sale even though many areas adjacent to their store would not have power for several days. read more

Th customer service is trash. Was put on hold three separate times with no intent to actually just check if they had a product or not. It's genuinely incredible that somebody can't just walk to that part of the store, use their eyeballs, and help a customer. I ended up just driving to the location to check for the product myself and there were about 20 people waiting in line for the 10 items or fewer line so I just left. Between the drive there and the time spent on hold, I wasted 1.5 hours of the 4 free hours I have in a day that aren't working. This used to be the grocer to go to. My kids could get a free piece of fruit while we shopped. I love the coupon book, though I wish you could somehow redeem them for delivery. I have mixed feelings about this store. I feel like it is trying hard to be a copy of Whole Foods, but failing miserably. The customer service is very distinctive between these 2 businesses. While this review isn't about Whole Foods, it would be wrong to consider the differences. When you ask for help, as I often do, the people at Whole Foods jump to attention and immediately assist in locating what you request. At Market District, they rarely help, shifting you to a different associate and passing the buck. I will admit that Market District has some unique features beyond the typical grocery. Their cheese section is very well done, and those employees are well informed. I feel like other parts of the store could benefit from the same attention to detail. The breads and bakery section seems to be a hit or miss proposition. You can find certain items there one day that are gone the next. It is as though they have no set pattern of baking and just make what they feel, so you could get good salt sticks one day and find none available the next day. The prepared foods can be a nightmare. I looked for a posted special and could only locate 2 of the necessary 5 items to complete their meal deal. I asked for help and waited while someone went to find someone else to answer my questions. When the right person finally arrived, they began pulling the meal deal special signs down. I'm not really interested in businesses that operate this way. If I'm in the area, I might stop in for some items. I will not go out of my way to shop here. There are far better and cheaper options available. In addition, Giant Eagle in general seems to enjoy playing bait and switch with customers. One card covers every one of their operations, but there is no cross promotions. You get different prices at GetGo, Giant Eagle, Giant Eagle Express and Giant Eagle Market District. They are all owned and operated under a single banner, but choose different pricing and specials for each location. Buyer beware. read more

VERY disappointed with their curbside pickup as of late. We have been using this Market District for pick up since the pandemic hit, and every week until Christmas they were able to complete my order or make simple substitutions for what they might be missing. Over Christmas they forgot all of the items that I asked for two of. Two weeks ago they replaced pizza dough with pie crust without checking with me like they usually do. And this past week, again, everything that I asked for multiples of, only came as one, and they just didn't put in one of the items I asked for. It's really frustrating when you don't have the opportunity to check your order until you get home only to find what you needed is not there. I have had to go back to the store, out of my way on weekends to return and exchange stuff, or go to a competitor closer to home to pick up extras of what I've already asked for. I don't know what happened here, they really had a great thing going and now I'm going to have to use a different GE even further away to provide curbside. read more

I'm a fan of this Market District. I normally frequent the one in Shadyside which is much smaller. I walked in and I was immediately floored. The little station for you to pick up a scanner, pay for your things and then go without waiting in any line is wonderful. The Starbucks stand is located to the right when you walk along with the cafe and alcohol. The prepared food station has a pizza section! A pizza section! There is so much to walk around. Multiple little stands featuring speciality foods and companies. I will be back to this Market District in the very near future and as funny as it sounds, it will be with my laptop. read more

Great selection of produce but their prices are *very* high. They're competing with Whole Foods, I think, to see who can charge the most. I only go there to pick up a few things, when I don't have the time to get to Aldis or Costco. The same brand of bread is literally 1.50 more there as compared to Target. Also, the staff is VERY slow and not especially friendly. I stopped going to the pharmacy and the deli completely because there's always a very long wait--even when they're not crowded! Being the only grocery store in the area, they're often swamped and don't have enough staff (or stock) to compensate. For instance, they literally have 20 plus check-out lanes but only three or four are open even when they're at their busiest. They should convert ten more to self-checkout at the very least, if they're not going to hire the needed staff. read more

I just ran into this location for the first time, but I did love all of the amenities and shops within the big box there was to enjoy. I ran in for some Sunday-Funday drinks (), but forgot that you can only purchase one case at a time. I'm so happy that this is the newest Giant Eagle to be updated and get the Market District treatment! The grand opening was January 22, 2015. Now that the word is out about the place being finished it is always packed and finding a parking space can be a chore. I just don't understand why it took Giant Eagle so long to turn this location into a Market District. They are headquartered in the Fox Chapel/ O'hara Township area after all. It's set up pretty much just like the somewhat larger Robinson location. For people who don't know, The Market District is a more upscale part of Giant Eagle, a supermarket chain based in Pittsburgh. The best way to describe this place is Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Wine & Spirits, Walgreen's and The Strip District all in one place! Take the cheese section for example. Every type of cheese you could think of and even some you have never heard of. Not sure what a particular cheese tastes like? No problem, they will give you a free sample. The amount and quality of the meat department is just mind blowing. Everything from beef to lamb, pork, chicken and so much more! Need some spices for the meat you just purchased? No problem. There is a spice and olive oil section. Vegan or prefer to dine Gluten Free? The Market District has that covered as well. The seafood section is just as massive covering just about the entire ocean. There is also a ethnic area that covers just about the entire globe including Italy, Germany, Spain and Africa. If you don't want to cook and bring home a quick dinner then check out the Cafe. The cafe has every type of food you can imagine. A pizzeria, a hibachi station, Indian, Sushi, a quesadilla station, a coffee shop, gelatos, a salad bar just to name a few. The bakery will even give Oakmont Bakery and Bethel Bakery a run for their money. Lots of different cakes, cookies, pies, doughnuts and so much more. There is even a cosmetic section that carries all the hard to find skin care products like Bare Minerals and Aveeno. I like this Market District location better than the East Liberty/ Shadyside location because it is closer to my house and the aisles here are bigger and finding a parking space is nowhere near as hard. Ok, so now this place is a fancy schmancy Market District (or as I think of it, a sad imitation of a Wegman's). I still stand by everything I said in my original review, but I will begrudgingly give them one more star for one simple reason: beer cave and bar! They now sell six packs...and shockingly, their prices for beer are reasonable and the selection is decent. They price gouge on everything else, so why aren't they being asshats about beer? I don't understand it, but I won't question it. They also have a little bar area where you can order beer and wine. It's totally bizarre to me that people can now get a buzz on at the grocery store, but again, I won't question it. Just because I gave you one more star does NOT mean that we're friends, Giant Eagle. I still hate you. But now I have beer to help me forget just how much I hate you. :) PS - They also have a cafe now that serves food, but I've found the quality to be underwhelming. read more

This location is in a convenient location with both plenty of parking and a variety of other brand name stores. Unfortunately, they don't rate quite well with carding those properly for the purchase of alcoholic beverages. One young girl presented a fake ID for the purchase of beer and then went in the parking lot with her friends. All of whom were under age. The LCB needs to clamp down on this. My wife and taken pictures of this lawlessness. All these stores need to be scrutinizing big time. read more

About Curbside Today. First time using this location. I arrived at 4:40. It was raining. Informed two people were ahead of me. It's 5:15. No groceries as of yet. Everyone else who has pulled in has come & gone. I'm not sure what the issue is but my Toddler isn't being very understanding about the problem. My pick up time was 4. Others came after me and were serviced. Unfortunately I was hoping to get home with enough time to get a few things done before a YELP event tonight. Not ok. Sitting in the car w a toddler who has to wait for Curbside is not a good experience. Bringing two dogs anticipating a normal curbside experience, even worse. Toddlers don't understand waiting. Dogs don't understand waiting. I've lost count to how many times the first three tracks of the Minions CD has played. ---- An update After others were serviced, curbside realized my groceries and I were still waiting. They claimed the stormed caused a glitch to the system which made pulling up some orders difficult. In the confusion each employee thought that the other had serviced my car. The employee was very nice about the mix up. However, over the experience was bad. W a glitch I would still expect a phone call letting me know there was a Delaney. I might give this location another chance. I so badly wanted to be able to use the location often. Sadly, I doubt that I'm going to be able to rely on the services. Shadyside Giant Eagle Curbside & The Village of Pine seem to have provided the best experiences thus far. read more

This is my favorite Giant Eagle. The decor is lux but it still has regular Giant Eagle prices. This store focuses more on high end offerings, as well as local brands. My favorite part of the store is the bulk offerings. I make pasta so being able to get the right amount of semolina is awesome! I also love the loose tea. It's a good price and if you're new to loose leaf, a dollars worth with get you several cups. The bakery has artisan bread made fresh daily. The cupcakes are so good! They have mini ones if your don't want to blow your diet. They also have a sweets area with fresh popcorn in many flavors, fudge, and vintage candy. The cafe serves pizzas and other meals that you can sit down and eat. There is also a bar for wine and beer. Lastly, there is a Starbucks inside. The staff are friendly and go out of their way to try and help you. This Giant Eagle gives you more of a shopping experience compared to the regular ones. *This review is for the seating area only. I really like this Market District! I come here to work often because the internet works great and the atmosphere is nice. There are big windows that let in a lot of natural light (when not covered by clouds), and this puts me in a good mood! There's a not-Starbucks-but-is-Starbucks area. You can use your app to pay and gain stars but you cannot redeem a birthday drink (insulting on your birthday, let me tell you!). No blonde espresso, but it's still good. You can also order food and have it delivered to your table. It's really nice, and they have good food! There is a strange phenomenon in the seating area. My favorite place to sit is at one of the 4 large high top areas by the giant windows. When this place first was remodeled, I came and all chairs were at the tables (4 large tables with 6 chairs at each table) . . . but every time I come, I notice these chairs are slowly disappearing. They have never returned. I've almost lost sleep over this. There are no other tables to which these chairs could be placed because these are the only high top tables. It's very bizarre. As I type this, 10 chairs are missing. I would assume next time I visit, 11 or 12 will be missing. So, if you want to sit at one of MY favorite tables in this Market District, I believe you realistically have 2-4 months before there is nowhere to sit. No one working at this Market District seems to care this is happening. The absurdity of the situation is almost unbearable. And, it's a shame because people SHOULD BE sitting at these tables. Why? Because they're Amish-made. And, the Amish are detail oriented. These are wood tables. And what happens with wood and pants? I'll tell you... snags. But Amish wood tables? No snags. Why? Because if you look under the tables you will see a large white vinyl sticker over the bottom to protect your pants from snags. I mean, that kind of intentionality is remarkable and to be noticed, praised, and utilized. That cannot be done if there are no chairs. Someone needs to solve this. In the meantime, you should work from this location! Bring your laptop, a few friends, and get some work done! If you want to sit, time is of the essence. read more

In the past two weeks, on two separate shopping trips, we bought a rack of lamb and packaged pork tenderloins both having a sell by date of April 1st. We opened each to cook, well before the date, and both were bad. We returned the lamb for a refund and the store refunded us no problem. We don't have time to go back for the pork so that's on us but how does this happen? Is the meat being stored properly, is it older than it should be? I have not been to this location since before the switch over to a Market District. Might I say, about damn time they did. This location was always busy prior to the change and needed an upgrade direly. I'm not quite sure if the size of this place changed, but there is more to be offered here now. The point that sticks out to me is the bar. Yes, a bar in a grocery store. They really have thought of everything now. "Hey, honey, let's go out tonight, I heard of this new fancy place." "Oh really, where is that?" "It's Giant Eagle." "That's it, we are getting a divorce, if all you are taking me to is a grocery store." I imagine that would be an exchange between a couple, or maybe it's the wine talking? Seriously though, I mean it's a good concept, but I wouldn't trust myself to shop after imbibing, that could be a dangerous thing. Customer Beware purchased trail mix nuts from their bulk section. Maggots in them. Spoke to customer service very rude and disrespectful because they do not want to take responsibility. They have not clean or shut it down due to me reporting this to them . I been a customer for over 30 yrs I expected more concern for the welfare of their customers and to be treated with dignity as a long time paying customer. Customer service cover for one another can't get to a supervisor because they received the call first. Lawwwd knows I love Market District for their variety and convenience. I like this location because of its proximity to my office. This location has a Starbucks and ample space to dine in, spread out, study or just chill. It's a clean space with a bunch of helpful folks who are always willing to help you out by answering a question. I think one of the biggest areas that gets overlooked is their self-serve spice section. This place has just about every spice you can think of to create a great dish. They also have a massive self-serve candy section as well. Please do yourself a favor and check them out. They have an amazing health and beauty section that offers hand-cut soaps, middle of the line beauty products such as NYX and always seem to carry a few independent type brands. Perusing the aisles are fun after wrapping up grocery shopping and before hitting the check outs. I'm not going to repeat the same things that have already been shared about Market District. I like this giant eagle, but i have lung disease and wearing a mask is difficult. i get out of breath very easily just by walking around and i was told i must wear one that it is the law. What about the man who worked for giant eagle and passed away. So i'll find another store to go to where i don't have to wear a mask. There are stores who permit people with actual medical problems not to have to wear them. The store itself is fine, but this corona stuff is crazy, everyone's so terrified. Don't come near me! Well, if i have to wear a mask that makes me wheeze and get out of breath. The guard was the one who insisted I wear it even though I have proof of a medical problem. :( read more

I love that this location has beer. It's really awesome to go in, have a pint and order dinner, then go shopping. A few things I'd like to see them improve ... There is only a revolving door in the cafe (beer area). If you do any grocery shopping before you buy your beer, you have to schlep your cart into the cafe, then back out to another part of the store to exit. This is probably universal to other Giant Eagles, but the plastic bags are garbage. I try to bring my reusable bags, but sometimes I'm in the area and just run in to grab a couple of things since I'm driving by. The bags consistently rip. The most recent had a package of hot dogs and a can of spray cheese in it ... nothing heavy, nothing sharp. The handles ripped off when i picked up the bag. The selection is good, the produce is generally fresh, and they have an expanded section with cool soaps, etc. It's also super cheap to fill a growler of craft beer -- usually around $11 -- and they always have one on special (right now it's Sam Adams Octoberfest for $9 ... not a Sam Adams fan, but that's hella cheap for a growler of beer). read more

This Giant Eagle receives an "A" for products, but a "F" for Curbside Delivery. I am an elderly woman, and I unable to go grocery shopping. I use Curbside Delivery to purchase the items from the store and have them delivered to my address. To my surprise the groceries were delivered to my apartment and left outside the apartment. I specifically left instructions for the delivery person to call when the order was delivered. NO CALL!!!! I am very upset because this is the second time this store has delivered the groceries to my address without a call to say your delivery has arrived as I have instructed when placing the order. Giant Eagle does not take the blame and the delivery services "Door Dash" does not take the blame. No one is paying attention. I even left a tip for the delivery person. I absolutely love this newly renovated Market District near my office! I try to stop here and get as much shopping done as I can since the Giant Eagle in the South Side leaves a lot to be desired. This location is bright, clean, and the employees are SO helpful. It seems like someone is never more than an aisle away if you have questions or need help finding something. Just this morning I stopped in for a few lunch items, and was not only asked if I was finding everything okay, but I was greeted with a pleasant "good morning!" from THREE employees as I made my way around the store. Their positive attitude and willingness to help customers is just wonderful. The store itself carries an insanely vast variety of products, ranging from generics and family favorites to health-conscious, organic, "trendy" items. Along with the newly renovated store, there is now a Starbucks located inside the main lobby (off of the produce department), and a little cafe that serves prepared foods. There is definitely no shortage of variety here, and they are open 24 hours! Perfect for an early morning trip on my way to work. read more

It drives me crazy that a neighborhood like Fox Chapel has only one grocery store. And one that has become a mediocre grocery store over the last few years. Every time I shop I come home with something I should turn right around and return. Today it was a roast chicken. Dry dry dry. It certainly seemed like yesterday's chicken. Usually they are fine. Sometimes excellent. Not today. Usually my problems involve the fresh grocery area. Bad potatoes. Bad onions. Mealy apples. Obviously held in storage way too long. I can't always cross the river for more choices in stores and the longer the Giant Eagle is the only choice the worse it will get. No competition equals mediocre goods and services. I did it, I ate breakfast at the Market District. I ate breakfast at the grocery store. And it was really tasty. I wanted to grocery shop (before the craziness of the weekend shoppers) and I needed breakfast, so I killed two birds with one stone. It was a Sunday, so it is good to know that Brunch starts at 8 am (7 am on weekdays and Saturday). We were the first in line and our food came in a timely manner. I ordered Steel Cut Oats which was a hearty bowl served with brown sugar, some walnuts and fresh berries. it was exactly what I needed. The oats were cooked in a maple syrup which wasn't overwhelming but just enough flavor. My BF got corned beef hash and a poached egg. That is how it is served, but you can get your egg however you please. Both items were hot and tasty. The brunch menu is limited as compared to the weekday b-fast. The only reason that I gave the Market District 4 stars is that by the time that we were done eating, it was so busy. That store is crazy busy in the mid morning on the weekends. read more
