Maybe they're not an essential business, but I do get a kick out of watching birds at the feeder outside!

I hate to admit how often I shop at this store because I'm usually not a fan of mega chains or pet…read morestores in general. However, I've been coming to this store regularly for several years. We now have a fishtank with 2 frogs and 5 fish and we got everything from this store (moss balls, tank decorations, the animals themselves, food, chemicals, filters, etc.), I come here once a month for dog food, and we even did a beginner dog training class with Andrew, who I'm not sure is still there but he was excellent. Do your own research on fish. Some of the staff are very knowledgeable, others will just try to get you to buy something. They sold us a single neon fish that was actually a schooling fish and the salesperson said it would school with the other types of fish in our tank, which wasn't true, and I think that neon died of loneliness after a few months. I started out with one frog and specifically asked, do I need a pair, which they answered no, but turns out frogs need friends so I went back for a second and they are doing fine. Anyway, it's what you would expect! Staff are friendly and helpful but please do your own research.

If zero stars were an option, that's what this would be…read more We have a 4-year-old St. Bernard, roughly 210 lbs. We were not asking for grooming -- just a nail trim and grind and an ear cleaning. We brought him to this same location in June for the nail trim and grind with zero issues. Today, from the moment Samantha saw him, our dog was treated as an inconvenience. We were told they had "never seen this type of service" for a dog like him -- for a service this store had already performed in June. She was rushed with him and visibly irritated when he laid down on the floor. He's a giant breed with imperfect hips on a slick floor with no traction; getting up isn't quick for him. When my husband stepped in to help get him up -- which he did without difficulty -- they asked him to leave. They then failed to finish the service because our dog was, in their words, too difficult to handle. So we left with an incomplete nail trim after the one person who could actually get our dog up was told to walk away. Sara and Abel, both of whom identified themselves as the manager, informed us they will not service him going forward. No solution was offered first: no mat or non-slip surface, no offer to book him with a groomer experienced in giant breeds, and no willingness to let the owner assist. If you have a big dog, or any dog that might inconvenience these employees, I would not bring your animal here. A nail trim and ear cleaning should not be beyond a store that advertises pet services.

It's very clean and has all sort of food and treat options for digs and cats. What I really liked was the vast choices and quantities of frozen raw food. A food type I feed my dogs as often as possible. The staff were exceptionally nice and the shop dog made me smile. She was very friendly and super interested in what I was buying. I left with a few new toys and some fish skins my dogs absolutely love. I don't live especially close to this business but if I did, I'd sure stop in to shop the raw foods. The only reason this isn't a five star review is the prices. I felt they were a tad high and designed to cater to affluent "all natural" types and that really is my tribe.

Everyone who works there is so friendly and greets us (well most importantly Calvin!) by name and with enthusiasm! Megan, Julia, Nicolette, Finn and Rowan all make Calvin feel like the most special, best boy in the world. Which he most definitely is so it is very nice of them to recognize!! They are also so knowledgeable and we have made great discoveries there. I trust that anything they carry is of the utmost quality and safety for my fur baby, and that gives me a lot of peace of mind. They are diligent in their research and quality checks. I love that they have so many local and small brands. They have a great education wall and such a great variety of products! Calvin always gets lots of treats in addition to all the love and they partner with other local businesses. So grateful that we discovered Hero's!

Wardle Feed & Pet Supply - A 4 week old "hen" with a large comb that turned out to be a rooster

I have had the worst experiences with Wardle's and just want to warn others…read more In June 2024, as a brand new chicken owners, I bought 3 Rhode Island Red hens from them. I was not able to go into the coop with the sales associate so he just went in, grabbed whatever three hens he could get and put them in my carrier. When I got home and took them out, I noticed one could barely walk. I tried to give her some rescue 911 electrolytes in her water and access to food thinking maybe getting scooped up and put in a box and then being in a car for 15 minutes was a stress on her nervous system and she just needed some time to acclimate. I called Wardle's to tell them what happened and asked if I could switch her for another hen. The manager told me no because she could be sick... even though that meant they had just sold me a sick chicken. She struggled for weeks. We had to keep her in a separate coop and spent countless dollars on a ton of different supplements trying to figure out what was wrong with her and to keep her alive. Finally we tried Vitamin B12 and after a few days of it in her water, she able to walk normally. Although she was always a pretty sickly chicken and not even a year later we found her dead in the coop one morning (no sign of attack or any injuries). Fast forward to September of 2025. We wanted to get a few chicks to raise and integrate with our flock. Against my better judgement, we went back to Wardle's to get chicks. They only had 4 week olds and again, we weren't allowed in the room where the brooders were to pick the ones we wanted so we just told the associate how many and which breeds. We got 3 gold laced Wyandottes, a Rhode Island Red and a Barred Rock. I looked in the box and noticed one of the hens had a pretty big comb. I asked if that was normal because we definitely didn't want a rooster. They assured me it was a hen. 3 months later, our "hen" has started crowing. We can't have roosters in Lakewood so now we have to find someone to take him or cull him. It breaks my heart. Of note, since then we have ordered chicks from McMurray and Meyer's Hatchery and had really healthy, beautiful, hens. Not a single rooster. I would highly recommend ordering from a hatchery over buying any chickens from Wardle's!
