My bff and I came here for happy hour after our massages at a Vi La Vita Spa. We sat at the bar and were warmly greeted by Thomas. We started off with a traditional espresso martini and a pumpkin espresso martini. These were delish!! The pumpkin martini wasn't overly sweet, it had just the right amount of pumpkin flavor. For happy hour food, we ordered 8 oysters and buffalo chicken wings. The oysters tasted so fresh and crisp. The wings weren't battered and fried so they were relatively light with great flavor. Thomas then made us the best dirty martinis with bleu cheese hand stuffed olives. If you're a bleu cheese person, these will be right up your alley. We finished with calamari off the happy hour menu and a glass of Chianti. We had the best time enjoying fabulous drinks and food, we never wanted to leave. Still a cool place to go but service has definitely declined. Ordered a couple of drinks and truffle fries. Took a look time to get our drinks and the fries. Even though it didn't seem busy. When the fries were brought out the waitress didn't bring napkins or utensils. The utensils I could care less for but eating finger food without having a napkin isn't what I like to do. She left before I realized we didn't have utensils. It was about 5 minutes before another waiter at another table came close enough for me to ask for utensils. The ambiance is always great here. It can be packed and you can still have a conversation with someone. The decor is cigar room classy. Still one of my favorite spots. read more

So disappointed. We went to John Ash Front Room on Father's Day after a theatre matinee for a Burger and Pizza . The burger came bare ( was supposed to have had caramelized onions and fixings) and not rare ( as requested). And before the Pizza even came out...they said it was incorrect...so we had to Wait. While we waited, we ordered more champagne ( and had good conversation). BUT, having been a patron of upscale restaurants for over 40 years, we expected, at least one champagne comped...but nothing. So sad The Front Room has fallen so far. read more

The happy hour option here is good, but EARLY! Happy hour is 2-5, so if you are trying to hit it after work keep that in mind. We have been several times over the years. Our most recent trip was a few weeks ago. They were great to let us get orders in with minutes left before 5. My sister pre-ordered a cocktail that would be served after 5 and they honored the HH price discount but our refill drinks were full price, so plan ahead! Our total with drinks (6), mussels and fries, flatbread, asparagus salad, tuna tartare was $180 for the 3 of us. Felt pricey, but I guess it's not surprising considering where we were. We had a pleasant time. The staff was great and made our experience enjoyable. We went specifically to try out their happy hour and the menu was just OK. Not a lot of selection. There's way better happy hours in the Santa Rosa area and no drinks were on the happy hour menu it was just two dollars off the regular full price cocktails which was a little disappointing. We probably won't be back for happy hour, but it was a good experience to try. read more

I've been to John Ash countless times for dinner and I've always heard great things about The Front Room's happy hour. Today was the day I finally tried them out. We stopped by right around 4 pm for after work drinks. The Front Room wasn't to busy and we opted for seating at the bar. The happy hour specials/drinks weren't great in comparison to other happy hours we've tried but we enjoyed the extensive cocktail, wine and menu options. We ordered 2 shots of Casamigos tequila reposado ($15 ea), truffle fries to share and I ordered myself a mocktail ($12). I'll admit the mocktail I had was the BEST I've had in forever. I've cut back on drinking significantly and I was overjoyed to see they offered multiple mocktail options! Summer 2024 I'm on a mission to find the best happy hour spot in Sonoma County. Oddly the mocktail options here put The Front Room in my top 3 picks for top contender. 8/10 for happy hour specials. The overall happy hour ambiance was lively. My wife and I we're looking for Happy Hour spots in Santa Rosa and with the help of Yelp found this awesome spot! I really liked the decor and charm of this place right from start opening this huge wooden door. You look around and there's a nice fireplace and turn to the right and there is a beautiful garden area. Happy Hour from 3-5PM There were about a half a dozen happy hour appetizers at $9 each. My wife is vegetarian and we enjoyed the fresh warm pretzel accompanied with picked veggies, stone ground mustard, cheese pimento and fresh cracked salt. She also enjoyed with Hummus served with warm pita, veggies crudités and olives. I'm not vegetarian and enjoyed two fully loaded fish tacos and two pork belly sliders. My wife also thought the happy hour Pinot Noir was wonderful. The service was great and the dishes were delivered quite quickly. First time eating in the Front Room at John Ash for quite a few years. Mostly small plates on the menu. We shared a plate of marinated olives and chipotle cauliflower wings. The cauliflower could have used a little more spice. I went with "Tips and Toast," Angus filet tips, mixed mushrooms a la crème, garlic roasted ciabatta, with whipped potatoes. My wife went with Grilled Fish Tacos made with halibut, La Tortilla Factory handmade tortillas, cilantro cream, chipotle salsa, and slaw. To finish, my wife chose a trio of gelatis, and I went with a chocolate cremeux cake with peanut butter gelati. The setting is very nice. The food was very tasty, but service was a little slow between courses. read more

This used to be a 5 star place for Happy Hour. We'd go a couple times per month. However, we are sorely disappointed that they have taken the Loempias off both the Happy Hour and Regular Menus. That was always our first go to choice. They charge you $8 for 3 dinner rolls. They're tasty but at least make it 4 rolls. This is bread. One thing that is consistently stellar at the Front Room is the Staff, they are attentive and nice but not pushy. The staff is 5-Star. Their Happy Hour wines and beers are also good as are their Truffle Fries. The HH menu has been in flux (who wants to pay $8-9 for a Pretzel). Bring back the Loempias! read more

One of my favorite places to grab dinner and drinks without being so formal. I love the comfy broken-in leather chairs and sofas. The dark and classic at-home library design is perfection. I love how well the Old World comes through. Its the kind of space that's great for schmoozing or date night. I love their selection of tequilas. No 1942, but they have Clase Azul and Casamigos (George Clooney's tequila is smooth yet, so fire). They have a veranda/ sun-room that looks out into a beautiful garden. Brunch would be amazing here. I yet have to experience it. I can tell you though that the appetizer olives, beet and arugula salad were a perfect start. I really enjoyed the Truffled Potato Leek soup. It was creamy and hit the spot. Light and farm to table is always the best kind of meal! I also enjoyed the vegetarian asparagus risotto made with Kite Hill almond milk. It was an unusual surprise to see this on their menu. I was thrilled and delighted to see that there were vegan options on their menu. So a couple nights ago, we ended up here because it was close by and convenient to pop right in without a reso. Its definitely a hidden gem. You wouldn't be able to see it off the main street. And for this reason I also love the privacy and inconspicuous location, which the John Ash Co. restaurant embodies. Ok, the place is usually full when I've gone, so word has gotten out...It was just a little late getting to me. I love this place. I've been here once to happy hour and another time for just drinks and a quick bite. The food is real good. The happy hour small plates look delicious. I went on a Sunday and got the burger deal of the day ($10). Outstanding burger w/ fries. Top notch, one of the best in the area. Wait staff is very attentive. Atmosphere is a little upscale, yet casual. Get some local wine or brew along w/ a small plate or burger and have a relaxing time. Christy is amazing. I was bummed when candice left and then sean, but christy appears to never be leaving. I cant say enough great things about her. She is a coctail wizard, super nice, and makes you feel welcome no matter how busy she gets. She doesnt KNOW me but I'd like to think she recognizes me from time to time. Either way she is always very pleasant. I come here mainly for happy hour and the food recently has become less awesome. They just changed up the menu and I go back and forth about being happy about it. I wanted a change but now I don't like the new items. Lol. Whatever will I do. Went to happy hour yesterday (Friday evening) and had the chicken wings, lumpia, and oysters. Got deathly sick about a half hour after getting home. Food poisoning from the oysters is my guess. Great small plates in the Front Room. Relaxed and a sweet place to settle in to sip a nice glass of local wine and order one small plate after the other. The empanadas and fish tacos are a must!
