This is a really fun little ice cream shop. The location is good and there is plenty of parking and the area is not too busy so you could go for a short walk if you were so inclined. The actual caboose is quite cute and makes for a fun theme, especially if you have young kids, they will love it! The staff is friendly and the ice cream is good, I have tried a few of their flavors, but, the one I like best is key lime pie. It has chunks of pie inside the ice cream and really tastes amazing. I came on a saturday night & there was a line. The place is definitely popular! I waited about 10-15 minutes till I got to order. I ordered two scoops in a cup - one salted caramel and one chocolate fetish. I really liked the salted caramel! The chocolate fetish was okay but it tasted a bit like it had been frozen a little too much. There was ice flakes in the middle but it was okay. Overall, this is a good spot with good prices. Cool walkup, food truck like place to grab some quick ice cream. They have a large offering for all types of ice cream lovers. I tried the one scoop of mint chocolate chip on a waffle cone. They are VERY generous with their scoops. My wife got the salted Carmel with heath bar topping (you can top your ice cream with pretty much anything). She got two scoops and cooks barely finish. The treats look awesome from the photos posted on Yelp. They do offer banana splits, which I didn't see on their menu. That's what I will be getting next time I go. The service was good with what seemed like one person taking orders while the other prepared your ice cream. They take credit cards as well. The ice cream was good, solid even, although I've had better. It is directly across from the vintage pizza, which seems like an ideal location for families with children eating out. Frosty treat to beat the HEAT! It really is a hidden treasure. Located on the side of the road, you'd think it was just a nostalgic train caboose, rather than a spot to get your ice cream fix, but it is indeed a well of frosty treats that are as every bit unique as the caboose itself. The down side is that it is rather out of shape. It's in desperate need of an update. The outside is just a strong gust of wind from having its facade ripped off, but it does the job. The inside is rather cramped and when I was there, the manager/owner (I assume) was telling me that the heat outside was tripping their A/C unit .. so I must have been like an oven in there! As you can see they have some unique flavors and have a variety of ices, sorbet and cups to cones. I picked up (2) quarts and a single cone for less than $20 plus tip. Fun hacks, they do allow you to "stack" flavors (2) in a container, but I sweet talked her a little and she put a little of flavor I just wanted to try on top. They all the treats your looking for + some I'm definitely going back to try. Like this 3 cookie sandwich sundae that I was so tempted to get, but driving was not going to allow me that fun!!! They also have doggie treat for the fur babies. So outside of needing a power washing and a fresh coat of paint...you really need to get your caboose over to this Frosty spot and take home all the treats to keep you cool and satisfied, during this heatwave. I've known of the Frosty Caboose for years. Driving by this place several times, and never stopping in due to crowds, it wasn't until fellow yelper Tammi D and I were fresh from a park walk at the nearby Dresden park, that we stopped here for some ice cream when crowds were low. I ordered the following: 1 Cup of ice cream ($3.25) For no extra charge, you can split your cup with two flavors. Of the two flavors, I got their ACHHHH, Like BUTTAH pecan, and Sea turtle madness. My favorite of the two flavors definitely was the Butter pecan. Creamy, but a bit too sweet. They did manage to keep a bit of the crunch on the pecans when you bit into it though, so not bad! The Sea turtle madness is salted caramel, and as the frosty caboose staff says, no turtles were harmed in making this ice cream. While this wasn't bad ice cream, it fell short to me in terms of flavor, and I wasn't wow'd at all. There are a couple of lots for the caboose, although the paved lot we were on had heavily faded parking lines, making it a bit hard to see where/how to park. The Caboose itself is a kid magnet, and that's definitely one of the great draws of this place. Parents bring their kids and kids climb all over the caboose. Who cold resist a train and ice cream on a sunny day?? While I only tried two flavors, the frosty caboose offers 36 dedicated flavors year round, and also offers a handful of season flavors. Maybe if/when I go back i'll pick different flavors that appeal to me a little bit better than what I tried. For now though, i've tried a lot of really good ice cream and i've had much better. This ultimately is what I think is the Caboose's biggest issue for me. There's a lot of ice cream competition in Georgia and the general area of chamblee/buford highwy, that do just as good or better. The Frosty Caboose is a Chamblee tradition. I'm giving this ice cream parlor five stars for a combination of reasons: quality, value, and novelty/fun factor. This is a neat place to grab ice cream and the ice cream tastes good too. If you're in the Brookhaven, Chamblee, Doraville, and Buford Highway area and looking for a yummy dessert or icy treat, this place should fit the bill. First, quality. The Frosty Caboose serves Greenwood Ice Cream. This ice cream is produced locally in Atlanta. Greenwood has been around for almost 70 years and is actually located just about a mile and a half down Peachtree Road from the Frosty Caboose. Greenwood is an old school ice cream supplier. Even high-end steakhouses like Bones in Buckhead serves Greenwood. You can get the same ice cream here at the Frosty Caboose. Second, value. At the time of writing this review, you can get one scoop of ice cream in a cup or sugar cone for as little as $3.25. Two scoops in a cup is $4.30 and three scoops is $5. Cake cones and waffle cones are available too. Currently, the most you'll spend on ice cream alone is $5.30 for two scoops in either a waffle cone or waffle bowl. What a deal. The Frosty Caboose offers a variety of sundaes priced at $5.49 to $6.49 each and kids sundaes for $3.79 each. You can create your own sundae too. There are over two dozen sauces and toppings to choose from, from mini M&M's to Rainbow Nerds. You can get hot dogs plain ($1.75) or dressed ($2.25) and even a hot dog meal with chips and a drink for only four bucks ($4). They also have $2 coffee and hot chocolate and $5 apple cider. You don't see pricing like this often these days. Third, novelty/fun factor. The coolest and most memorable thing about the Frosty Caboose is it's literally an old caboose that's been repurposed into an ice cream shop. The converted caboose is a retired Missouri Pacific Railroad (MoPac) caboose from Iowa. It's painted bright red with an ice creamy (and melty) white top. The caboose sits in a parking lot next to an active railroad, the Norfolk Southern Railway, as well as the MARTA rail line. You're allowed to climb up and hop on to the platforms on either side of the caboose. Of course, it makes for great photos and kids love it. The Frosty Caboose carries at least 36 flavors of frozen yogurt, sorbet, sherbet, ice cream, "gourmet light" and Italian ice at any given time, with most of the options being ice cream. Like most ice cream stores, free samples are available. I've tried several flavors and they're all delicious. Vanilla, black cherry, chocolate chip cookie dough, mint chocolate chip, pistachio, birthday cake, cookies & cream, coffee almond fudge, almond amaretto, and double vanilla. I couldn't tell much of a difference between the vanilla and double vanilla and the lady behind the counter couldn't tell me the difference either. I really don't have any recommendations other than to try different flavors and see what you like. All the flavors I've tried have been good. The ice creams are generally rich, creamy, and flavorful and, in my opinion, more dense and less airy than popular store-bought ice creams like Ben & Jerry's and Haagen-Dazs. The taste is classic and traditional unlike newer and more creative ice cream brands like Jeni's. One isn't necessarily better than the other; they're just different styles. I've also tried a Coke float and it wasn't bad. $4.80 for a 16-ounce serving. Credit cards are accepted, even for single scoops ($3.25). Plenty of free parking is available in two separate lots that surround the caboose. One lot is paved and the other is gravel. The only downside to the Frosty Caboose is there's not much in terms of seating. There are a couple benches and some planters you can sit on. Other than that, you'll be standing on or around the caboose. It's not a bad atmosphere. There's some vintage charm to the place. If the caboose isn't charming enough, you can buy affordably-priced souvenirs to take home with you such as shirts, hats, whistles, train-shaped cookies, and aprons. Always find this one to be a fun treat with the kiddos. The I cream is quality and they have a variety of flavors and a few different types of options (we usually just stick with the scoops). The line can get a little long but there is plenty of parking and we usually find a place to sit on the areas around the trees or next to the train tracks. The best peach ice cream in town! Because Georgia is known for their peaches I had to try their peach ice cream and my god, I wish peach was a regular ice cream flavor everywhere. It was so fresh and creamy and the peach chunks perfectly complimented the ice cream. About $4-5 for a cone or cup! We've driven by here a few times, but never stopped in. The setup is pretty interesting, an actual train car on an old set of train tracks. There is plenty of parking. We stopped by on a Friday evening after 9pm, they close at 10 and by the time we were leaving there was still a line of about 10 people. The actual ice cream was pretty mediocre, decent, but certainly nothing special. We opted for a cup with two scoops, pistachio and chocolate peanut butter. They do have a wide variety of options and the portions are pretty large. Prices are not bad. Overall, an ok quick ice cream spot. read more

My friend/coworker and I finally decided to try this place today. We work two minutes away and have been saying that we were going to stop in for at least a year. I settled on a single scoop cup of coconut ice cream with pineapple topping. I'm a fan of all things pina colada. My friend ordered Chocolate Fetish after sampling it. While we waited for our orders, the nice lady explained that the ice cream is from a local business and that some of the flavors change with the season. She encouraged us to come back and try their fall flavors. We got our orders and man oh man were they good!!! I'm not even going to attempt to describe how good, just trust me on this. The first time I came here was in 2013 and I can't believe I didn't come back til now. They serve Greenwood Ice Cream, which is located just down the street and is the best ice cream I've ever had. Usually, Greenwood only services restaurants, but since Frosty Caboose is a restaurant... I never realized I neglected to review how awesome Frosty Caboose was until I noticed I also hadn't been back here since my date here in 2013. What a shame! It was a slightly brisk night, but that didn't deter us from our ice cream mission. It was open until 10 on Sunday night so we took our time getting there. Sure enough all the lights were lit and the sign shown bright in the night sky. Honestly I believe this area is such a cute and romantic area, but I decided to bring my friends to the sacred ice cream train car. The walkway winds you up to the counter, where the bored but friendly server let's you sample the different flavors, which seem to change with whatever they have in stock. After trying quite a few, I decided on the Coffee Almond Fudge, three of my favorite things in a scoop of ice cream. I got the sugar cone, which I prefer to a cake cone, with a single scoop for 3.25. I was surprised to see more than just a single scoop on my cone (maybe it was the small tip I left in the tip jar)! You can also check in on the little number pad they have. Each time you check in you get a discount or free item. My offer was discounted hot dog, but it was after 8pm by then, which is when they stop serving them. No matter, I was still stuffed from dinner. No bathroom in sight, but I didn't intend to stay here long enough to use the restroom. I had a good time hanging out by the caboose and the tracks with my friends. After just having brunch, I needed to satisfy my sweet tooth so decided to stop in here since I had a Scout Mob deal to use. The stand is close to the railroad tracks and I wasn't quite sure how parking was so I parked across the street and walked over. I tried about 5 or 6 flavors before I chose Butter Pecan. I wasn't crazy about neither of the flavors but since I spent about 10 minutes trying different flavors, I needed to account for that lost time by purchasing something and supporting a small business. The old man and three staff workers were super patient especially with me trying so many flavors! Its a ice cream shop though; it's to be expected. I go to Chamblee but just not in that area often. I think the look is cute with a red caboose as the ice cream shop. I never had Greenwood Ice Cream before but it is yummy. I got my usual, mint chocolate chip waffle cone. It was delicious. I have to come back and try more flavors. I always go with my standard and if I love it, I will come back. So it's like a food truck or like 99% of Brusters, where you order, get your ice cream or whatever you got, and find seats outside. There were benches around the parking lot. The parking lot isn't huge but there is another parking lot close by that you can park. I've seen others come from that way. It is also located next to the train tracks so it could be possible you are eating at Frosty Caboose and a train come by. Ice cream is yummy. Greenwood Ice Cream is good. It was caramel ice cream with caramel swirls and little chocolate chunks. It was wonderful, and the scoop was just the perfect amount. There were many different options to choose from including, but not limited to, waffle cones, banana splits, shakes and at least 20 different flavors of ice cream and numerous toppings. They have specials for kids too, and even hot dogs. It sits next to the train tracks and there are picnic tables and benches so you can go enjoy your ice cream and watch the trains go by, it seemed like all the kids loved that!
