We tried coming here during the evening one night and it was completely full so we made another attempt the following afternoon and they were completely empty. The server was very nice and the food portions were good for the price. They had YouTube videos playing music while we ate. The only thing is, once they started to cook and turned their hood fans on, the sound from the fans was overpowering and could become a little distracting while trying to converse.

Spicy chicken (half and half) and the complementary sides that goes with the meal.

I came here with my husband and wow the chicken was great. We order the special half and half (with spicy sauce and soy sauce) and an order of fries with it. Our server was very friendly and brought us our drinks right away. The meal took some time but we were served a corn appetizer during our wait which was hot and delicious. When the chicken and fries came out it was perfect. The chicken was crispy but saucy, and very juicy. The fries were also very hot and crispy and went well with the chicken. Be warned though, it is WAY too much food for just two people and you will have to take some to-go with you. On the plus side, it all reheats very nicely.

The Long Version: I love food places tucked away in industrial parks. So when I had a medical appointment in an industrial part of town, I looked up all the eateries nearby and Shorty's popped up. I picked up 2 sandwiches. They were $8.41 each and were huge. I ate half of each and saved the rest for later. The first sandwich was a grilled chicken sandwich and the second sandwich was a build your own 3 meats sandwich. I chose ham, turkey and roast beef. I got havarti as the cheese. For the grilled chicken sandwich, I got double smoked cheddar as the cheese. I got both sandwiches on the cheese and jalapeno bread and got the same toppings on both: lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, pickles, spicy eggplant, crispy onions and crispy jalapenos. I didn't get any sauce/dressing on the sandwiches because I don't like wet sandwiches. Both sandwiches were delicious. I loved all the different toppings and the crispy onions and jalapenos gave it that extra crunch. I'm all about textures so I really enjoyed the contrasts. Service was efficient. There are seats to dine in if you wish to, but it's more a takeout joint. Free parking available in the industrial strip mall. There are even picnic tables in the parking lot. Review #106 (2025)

The food is high quality - often locally sourced and organic. Dahl soup was tasty, with just a hint of heat from the spice. Chicken taco filling was tasty but... and I think this is where I'm struggling... I am realizing that I really don't like soft tacos. Something about the texture of the taco itself puts me off. I'm sitting here trying to decide if I'm being fair giving them a three because of my preference for taco shells. I guess what I'm saying is: take my review with a (proverbial) grain of salt. Would love to see a garbage can and recycling bin put out. Since they are located on the UOttawa campus during school year, plan to bus/walk to get there. (Parking is a pain during the week.) If you get off at Campus Station 2B, Sweetpea (the truck) is really close by. (Don't take my word for it though - things change, so make sure you check on that.) Staff was great. They have 2 tables and about 6 chairs for people who want to sit and eat for a bit. Would I return: Yes. I'd love to go again when it's not Taco Thursday, to try to get a different menu item. Would I recommend: Yup - if you like healthy choices that are locally sourced and organic, this is a great option.

TL;DR/The Short Version: Cute little place in Stittsville…read moreselling tasty soups and sandwiches. The Long Version: I had lunch at Wiches Cauldron recently and it was great. I got the Chicken Sandwich ($15.95). It was sliced real chicken breast meat, mozzarella cheese, mixed greens, cucumbers, picked onions and fig jam. It usually comes with mayo, but I asked them to omit it. All sandwiches come with a mini 4 oz soup. I chose the curried carrot and squash soup. The sandwich was delicious. The bread they use is a Kaiser and it's from Carp Bakery. It was soft and very fresh. I loved that the meat was real chicken and not deli meat. The fig jam was tasty and gave the sandwich a nice sweet taste. The soup was a bit watery, but was full of flavour. It had a strong curry flavour and the coconut milk in it made it a bit creamy. I enjoyed it. Funny story: I ordered the chicken sandwich. They ask your name for the order. The lady who ordered after me also got the chicken sandwich but she asked for no cheese. The cashier announced to the kitchen "no cheese on the chicken sandwich" and the kitchen asked "which order? Jennifer's?" And the cashier said "no, the next one, I haven't punched it in yet." Lol. I chimed in "I love cheese, I definitely want cheese on my sandwich!" The man in the kitchen said "alright, extra cheese for Jennifer!" And the lady after me said "yeah, you can have my cheese." Haha. So I got two slices of cheese in my sandwich. Score! Lol. Everyone working there was super nice and friendly. It's a small place, so the cash and the kitchen are right next to each other. I took my order to go, but there's seating to dine in. I noticed they have a small amount of branded merchandise, like baseball caps. There is free parking in their private parking lot at the back of the restaurant. Fun facts: The Wiches Cauldron started off as a food truck in the early/mid 2010s. Some time in the early 2020s they moved into their present location which was Red Gables Creperie before (it was also briefly Red Gables Ramen before they rebranded and started selling crepes instead of ramen). Looks like they probably do some concerts since they have a nice stage set up in the back. Nice menu and a lot of good beer options. Opted to try their radler and it was delicious, before I remembered I'm not supposed to have grapefruit. The waitress was quick to get me a replacement Guinness. The food came out pretty quick. My wife got the Tuna Poke Wonton, which came out deconstructed I guess... actually ended up working out pretty well. It was quite good, but the poke wasn't nearly as fresh as what we are used to in California. My chicken burger was delicious, the cranberry and brie on it made me feel like thanksgiving. It was really hearty and heavy for a chicken burger, but worth it! The highlight might be the kids menu though. The kids can pick from 4 items Poutine, Fish & Chips, Burger & Fries, or Mac n Cheese. But, it comes with a drink and dessert. Clearly our daughter was on cloud 9 getting chocolate milk and ice cream included in her meal. Her poutine was quite good too, not too salty, nice gravy flavor and melty curds. If you're in the area this is a great stop for food or drinks or both.

When I arrived the place was moderately busy, but i was greeted immediately. The restaurant itself is very cute and cozy. I will definitely be back for lunch or dinner. As we were walking out, my children noticed someone eating pho and even requested we come back. I ordered the Vermecelli with chicken and I am so grateful I did. There was so much chicken and the noodles were perfectly cooked. Even the salad was green and fresh, along with cucumber that had been cut into tiny strips. It also came with two fried spring rolls. I prefer regular spring rolls, but they were delicious, very crispy and flakey. I prefer my vermecelli completely mixed, so I added the dressing, shut the takeout box, and shook it up. This made it easier to have noodles, greens, and chicken with every bite. I was too hungry to think to take a photo, but will add some on future visits. Definitely recommend and will absolutely be back!

Most places around were not open on Saturdays, but Via Slack Coffee was, so that's where we went. Overall, it was very good. We both got the Sandwich Trio ($8.84 each, so with tax $10 even). The trio came with a sandwich, soup or bag of chips, and a can of pop. I got the roast beef sandwich, soup of the day, which was cream of broccoli, and a can of iced tea. My husband got the turkey sandwich, same soup and same drink. The default toppings on the sandwiches are honey mustard, mayo, lettuce, tomatoes, green olives, pickles, hot banana peppers and jalapenos. My husband got the default, but I asked for no mayo, no banana peppers and no jalapenos. Somehow I ended up not getting pickles either, but that's not a big deal. I'm glad I didn't get the stuff that I didn't want. My roast beef looked and tasted exactly like pastrami, but oddly enough, pastrami is not on their menu as a meat option. So I'm not sure if that's what they call roast beef or if the person making my sandwich made a mistake. I was starving and I'm not opposed to pastrami, so I ate it, but I was expecting roast beef. The sandwich itself was very good. I loved the variety of toppings. Everything tasted fresh and I felt it was excellent value for money. The soup could have been hotter in my opinion. It was just lukewarm. I'm not the biggest creamy soup fan, but it was their only soup available (understandable, because it was Saturday and I think most of their business is on weekdays. We were the only customers the entire time we were there). However, it had lots of chunks of broccoli and wasn't too salty. I'm happy that it came in a real bowl since we were eating in and not in a takeout container, but oddly enough we were given disposable spoons. I would have preferred a metal spoon, but it's not really a big deal, just something I noticed. They also currently have a Yelp check-in deal where you get a free Americano when you check in on the Yelp App. Both hubby and I checked in and we each got a free coffee (regularly $3.25). They were super strong and very good. They serve Happy Goat coffee. We sat down and waited for our food, but I did get up to get some water from the water dispenser and I glanced over and noticed that the server was wearing gloves to make our sandwiches. Extra points for this! Y'all know how much I like good hygienic practices! :) Service was polite and friendly. The place is relatively new and looks clean and neat. Lots of free parking in the parking lot out front. It's in a strip mall. Via Slack Coffee is a very good lunch option for people working in the industrial park. Most food places in industrial parks are takeout only with limited seating, so it's also nice that there is a lot of seating, mostly regular chairs, but also a few comfy couch-like chairs.
