It's fair to say that Will Heck, the proprietor of "Heck of a Deal" would be an excellent museum…read moredocent but taking up residence in the small town of Escalon, there are few museums at which he could share his knowledge. Solving this problem, his store (more like a series of storefronts) satisfies by providing a venue to that's both fun to poke around in and made hugely interesting by the owner's knowledge of what's on his shelves. The proprietor of Heck of a Deal is a storyteller, a collector, and insanely knowledgeable about pottery (and a whole lot more). As I peered in through the windows of the closed store, Will came out and unlocked the doors, welcoming me in. If the place looks closed, peer in for a while and I think you might have the same experience. Once inside, Heck of a Deal is what appears to be a small town curio shop, filled with dusty garage sale and storage container contents. You've been in this type of shop in many places but you've never really been until you go through this shop in Escalon. The way things are organized, though it appears they're not, is logical and can easily be explained by the proprietor who seemingly has a tale to tell about at least one piece in each collection. Mr. Heck will guide you to the valuable pieces and explain what makes them valuable and unique. There's plenty of things that aren't valuable, and prices are low and very reasonable, but even the prices of the more valuable pieces seemed reasonable. Mr. Heck just loves this stuff and wants to share his love with you. I learned so much here and saw so much that I felt like a window had been opened to something about which I never previously knew a thing. I made a couple of small purchases but the stories left me yearning for a few of the more valuable offerings. If you drive through Escalon without stopping at Heck of a Deal you're really missing an amazing experience. You should be seeking this place out and if you do, don't forget to ask "what's the most valuable piece you have in here?" then wait for the story to pour forth.

Went with my family and the man told us to come back at 5 and it will be half price, I asked him what time they close and he said 2 or 3 . I said so shouldn't I be back around that time he said you can but we will be here until 5 cleaning up. So my mother and I went back at 2:30 and he said oh welcome back ladies and asked what we came back for and I proceeded to ask him if he is honoring his word about it being half price and he said well I will do my best to talk the other lady down. We then told him we were interested in the cedar chest that was marked 65 and he went and talked with the lady and she said she could do 40 so we passed. As we were going out through the garage she said oh you ladies are still here and I said no we laughed and came back because the gentleman said that if we came back at five or after they closed that it would be half price and she said well he shouldn't have said that we're really tired and it's been a long day yada yada yada. So I then said well how much is the chair the rocker she said she could do 40 and it was originally 50 and I said well it's really sad that you guys aren't honoring what the gentleman said and again she proceeded to tell me how tired they were. Then the gentleman came out into the garage and she asked him. Did you tell these ladies if they came back that they could get 50% off and he says no and I said are you serious? You're calling me a liar I said did you not tell me to come back at five and he said is it five yet in a smart ass way and I said you know it just forget it you guys are the most rudest un honest people I've ever dealt with, and we go to a lot of estate sales. So then I proceeded to tell her that she was going to get a very nice review from me and she says just take the chair don't threaten me with a bad review. I said that Man just called me a liar and I am not a liar and then he contradicted himself by saying is it five yet I said I will never come back to one of your estate sales. She also tried to make us feel stupid like we didn't know what we were looking at and how much it is actually worth. She was very rude to my daughter also earlier in the day. I ordered a bed frame online from their website and tried calling two separate days to schedule a…read morepickup time. Both times I called they could not locate my order and would tell me they would call me back, but would never call back. It took nearly a week later for them to realize that they didn't even have the item I ordered in stock and to offer me to buy something else that they did have in store. After letting them know that wouldn't work as I already had the mattress, I had purchased a bed frame, they let me know they would be able to issue a refund and that this would take 3-5 business day. It has since been two weeks later and I can't event get them to answer the phone anymore. Finally today after An 15 business days later, my refund has been issued!!! Only issued!! I'm very disappointed as I was trying to support a local business. I will never attempt to come here again.
