I was so fortunate to find the FurKid Company a few years ago after a thorough search here on Yelp. This company is so organized, friendly, and communicative. Lana and Beth have been total rockstars throughout the years with scheduling, and I have never had an issue in my years working with them. Whenever my usual walkers, Amy and Danielle, had conflicts, I would receive an e-mail from Beth and Lana letting me know and giving me the name and e-mail of the walker who would be covering for them. I am so lucky to have had Amy as my walker for my entire time with FurKid Co. Amy was beyond awesome and a total pro with my quirky pup, and I probably trusted her more with him than I did my own family. She was always punctual, responsible, and communicative. More than that, she was so sweet with my dog, and my dog adored her in return. I received an e-mail from her every day with a report on how he did on his walk, and additional texts when something time-sensitive came up. Amy was such a tremendous help throughout the years, going above and beyond the duty of a standard dog walker, giving me wonderful advice, tips, and tremendous peace of mind. I am beyond grateful for all of her help; she is truly the best of the best! About a year and a half in to my time with Furkid, I decided to add an extra mid-day walk to my dog's day, which is when we met our second walker, Danielle. Danielle was such a kind, sweet person and very affectionate with my dog. She was also great about giving me updates on the goings-on of their walks. As I mentioned above, Milo is quirky dog, and I was impressed with how quickly Danielle adapted and learned from those quirks given the shortness of the walks. I sadly had to move from my old apartment in June of last year, and my new apartment was not in the area that FurKid Company services so I had to say goodbye to this wonderful company. I write this review with some regret, as I have moved from The FurKid Company's area of service. I will miss working with them. I don't think I can disagree with anything else others have said about Beth and Lana, and all of the sitters @ the FurKid Company. All sitters were always nice and professional towards me, and more importantly conscientious, caring, and attentive to my (big) little kitty. All of the sitters were great at following my detailed instructions. As many have stated, the emails with photos after each visit were great, though sometimes I was made jealous of how well they encouraged my little guy to play! And while only 1 of the sitters who came to me had previously used an Aerokat inhaler system, all were more than willing and able to learn to ensure my cat received his medication. Prices are very fair compared to others in the area, especially considering the amount of quality time each sitter puts into every visit and the sometimes short notice with which they can become available to make sure a pet is taken care of in the absence of his or her usual human. If I ever return to their area, I would not hesitate to contact The FurKid Company for their help. read more

I've held off on writing this review until I left the city, as I was concerned that Beth may have told other dog walking companies in the area not to take me and my new dog. I did not want to make the situation harder for myself by posting a public review at the time. FurKid Company had walked my prior dog for over two years (February 2014 through August 2016), until he died. During that time period, we first had one really amazing walker that I loved, and then there was a series of frequently changing, less great walkers, including one who initiated a physical altercation with my doorman and was thereafter banned from my building. During those two years, I found Beth to be pretty inflexible and, while overtly cheerful in her emails, she was challenging to work with at times. But finding and getting started with a new dog walking company can be a challenge, so I was resigned to trying to make it work with FurKid. For what it's worth, I was concerned that Beth may have been deliberately assigning a rolling, frequently-changing series of the newest and least inexperienced walkers to me, despite my having been a client for years, in an effort to get me to quit their services so she didn't have to fire me. Paranoid? Maybe, but maybe not, as you'll see. Perhaps Beth felt the same about me as I did her, because when my dog died, she sent her condolences and said they looked forward to walking my next dog, whenever I got one. Three months later, I adopted again and soon after asked FurKid to set us up with walks. I got a series of evolving excuses from Beth, over the course of 2-3 months, about why she couldn't accommodate us in their schedule (the holidays were too busy, they didn't have any open time slots in January, they just signed a new contract with a building in February and had no extra walkers, etc etc). Ultimately, she told me they simply had no availability for any extra dogs in their schedule. But when my friend emailed them about their new dog, FurKid immediately offered to put them on their schedule! Apparently there was just no room at FurKid for me and my dog. I don't know if Beth didn't want to work with me or didn't want to work with my newly adopted dog, who had some trust issues, so maybe Beth felt FurKid was not equipped to work with him. I can see why she wouldn't want to say directly that FurKid couldn't handle dogs who were a little more challenging to work with, but since she didn't say that - or anything other than the repeated lie that they weren't taking new clients - I couldn't help but feel very hurt and angry that she would lie to me after being her client for 2.5 years. Beth also "referred" me to FurKid's "sister" dog walking company, but that company also lied to me about not having any availability in their schedule (when they could schedule my friend's dog just fine), so I also wonder if Beth blackballed me to that other company. It was a very frustrating and hurtful situation at a difficult time in my life. It's incredibly unprofessional for Beth to choose to lie to long-time customers; I wish she had just told me the truth (whatever it was) instead of a series of overt lies while I waited months for her to have an opening for us. Luckily I was able to find a company in the neighborhood who worked with my dog's trust issues and was easier to work with overall for the next two years before I moved away. But now that I've left NYC and don't have to worry about being blackballed by the local dog walking companies, I wanted to let other dog owners know about my experience with FurKid and Beth. read more

The entire team is FANTASTIC! Beth is extremely professional. James (our walker) was adored by my english bulldog, Geri. He wrote a long, well-thought email to me every single day. Unfortunately, I'm moving to the West Village so need to move walkers but here's a copy of James' final email to me which I feel is an excellent example of how much love he gave to my dog: "Hey Matt, so unbelievably sad to hear that Geri is not gonna be on my schedule brightening up my day anymore with high fives and tug o war games! :) She was definitely the highlight of most of my days! Such an adorable little lady, full of love and play and personality! I hope you guys are moving on up to bigger and better things and that Geri will be able to find a great new friend to devote their time to her so that she can have fun When you can't be around! :) it's been truly great being able to know both of you and wish ya the best. I spent a little extra time with Geri today as a fair well treat. I got there at 2:30 an took her out to do number one and then we played until 3:25. Then I said farewell! I've just started with The FurKid and I'm SO happy I made the change. Skye is my dog Daisy's walker and in just 2 days, I already see such a difference in her. Today was a cold day, and she typically takes Daisy to the dog park as part of her time. But, since it was cold out Skye took her inside and played with her a bit so she could get some energy out. It really shows the personal touch they give to our little fur babies and I'm super appreciative. Although incredibly reluctant to hire a walker for my 5 1/2 year-old dachshund, Cash (as in Johnny), I set aside my overprotective tendencies for his benefit while working long hours on a contract job and decided to contact RECESS (after reading through the collective praise given for the agency here on Yelp). The friendly and accommodating response I received from Beth only further me put at ease since I had feared that my emphatic concern for Cash's safety - and the fact that I'm an attorney - might be off-putting from a liability standpoint. Echoing fellow reviewers, I love the reports I receive after each of Cash's walks and, above all, knowing that he made it home safely. On this note, I will say that my concern is fairly well-justified seeing as Cash's last home was a big house on a mountain top with a golf course as a backyard and virtually no traffic to contend with. Also, he grew up with a pit bull/rottweiler mix and therefore has a dangerous affection for bully breeds. Despite these risk factors, his walker (Kate) has brought him home after each walk without even one solitary incident to report. Not only that, but she also routinely makes sure that Cash is comfortable, has plenty of water and gives him a few treats (if I leave them) before leaving the apartment. And given how uninviting my living quarters can be sometimes, this extra effort is all the more appreciated. Truthfully, for this outstanding level of personalized care and attention, I'd expect to have to pay nearly double what RECESS charges, but their affordable rates are just one more reason that I will never have to look elsewhere for a mid-day caretaker for my sweet Dachshund (or any other dog I may adopt in the future). And for my fellow East Village dog owners, I could not recommend RECESS more highly. read more

We found the FurKid Company based on a word of mouth recommendation and they are every bit as fantastic as we were told they would be. I have an irregular work schedule but they are so organized and the communication is so good, clear, and fast that we never had an issue. We had a few different walkers during the couple of years that we used their services and they were all great. Punctual, responsible, and sweet with our dogs. They always gave us a full report on how our dogs did on the walks, which we really appreciated because we had an elderly dog with some health issues. Plus it's just fun to see pictures of your dogs out having a good time while you're at work. I was wary of using a company because I had always had individuals walk my dogs in the past but Lana, Beth and their staff are amazing and I never worried about anything with them. I whole heartedly recommend them if you are lucky enough to live within their service area! read more

I am SO happy I found the furKid company!! Last year I moved to Manhattan and was so worried about trying to find a new pet sitter. Since we travel pretty often, finding a sitter we could trust to take awesome care of our Moo (cat) was a big concern. Thank god for Beth, Lana and the furKid company! Right from the start they made me feel so comfortable; they were so nice, easy to work with and accommodating. You can tell they really care about what they do. Plus you get short updates with pics of your pet from every visit (which we get way too excited about), so you can relax knowing your pet is being taken care of . I am so so glad we switched to FurKid from another dog walking company, walkers of which failed to show up on a regular basis. We have been using their service for the past 1 year and 8 months and it has been a great experience. We are moving to Westchester next month and are really sad we have to leave Furkid. Lana and Beth are extremely responsive. Their walkers are the best - they handle our anxious rescue dog very well. We also have a puppy who they have worked with since she came home when she was 12 weeks. They are very helpful with the potty training and are consistent in instilling good habits in our puppy. When I gave birth to our human baby, Lana and Beth and our regular walker Jack (who sadly moved away) helped us so much - Jack stayed over on a short notice, walked the girls and kept us in the loop. During my 33 hours of labor and 2 days of hospital stay after the birth, we were glad that Jack took care of our furbabies. We would highly recommend the FurKid Company to anyone who wants to find a good walker for their pup in the city. We will miss them greatly! read more

Beth and Lana are incredibly responsive and prompt, making scheduling easy and payment a breeze, not to mention the incredibly competitive rates for such a high level of service. I cannot speak highly enough of FurKid Company. They have been taking my pup for walks twice a day for the last few months. Kenny, her regular dog walker, is awesome and sends daily pictures and updates of her walks. He easily adjusted to any new variations on my dog's diet, harness, etc. as I learned about her needs after she was adopted. FurKid Company also keeps specific notes on each dog so that if a substitute is needed he or she will know exactly what each dog needs. FurKid Company has always been extremely responsive if I have any questions or need to change my schedule. They have also been flexible with coverage when I've needed it on weekends. Kayla recently watched my dog for a weekend in my apartment and I knew she was in good hands with updates throughout the weekend. They also jumped in last minute to cover my neighbor's dog for a weekend when my neighbor's dog walker backed out. read more

I am so thankful for Beth, Daphne & Caitlin. My husband and I have a golden retriever puppy, and I was so nervous about her having potty breaks and playtime during the day. Beth answered all my questions via phone, and even more by email prior to us starting with them. We were paired up with Caitlin, who loves our dog just like her own. I cannot say enough good things about Beth and her team at the FurKid Co. We have been using them to walk our Shiba Inu for the past four years and due to a move, have had a few different walkers - they have all been AMAZING to our somewhat quirky little Shiba. She definitely needs a little bit of extra love - shy, timid - and Beth and her team have gone above and beyond to make Emi feel safe with them. They are responsive (and every email is refreshingly happy), responsible, and most of all - everyone Beth employees truly loves animals. The few walkers we used all made us feel like our dog was in such good hands while we were at work. They are all AMAZING! I left to visit my parents for a week and I wanted to make sure that my dog is being treated great. They responded professionally and they are just fun! There's just something about Recess and their team that it's hard to explain unless you meet them in person. I felt very comfortable right away and that I could trust them. I've used this group for the past 2 years with only great experiences. Beth has been excellent about setting up schedules for us, whether it is my regular work week schedule or a period of time where I just need sporadic walks. I've also used the overnight stay service and only have wonderful things to report on that as well. We receive update emails after each walk that talk about where they've gone on the walk, how my dog was feeling that day (which is important when she is feeling ill), and just give me comfort that my dog is being well taken care of while I am out. My dog and I have had a few of the dogwalkers in the group take care of us for both regular walks and overnight stays (dogwalker changes due to my schedule variations over the past 2 years) - and everyone has been excellent (Evie, Jen, James, Dara, Vera, and Annie have all been in my home and trusted with my dog) . Usually Beth would set up a meet and greet for the new walker to meet me and my dog and to see how the place is set up - which I really liked. I just moved out of range for the company, and luckily Beth had a recommendation for another group that I could use (I did consider not moving out of range!). And, my doormen and neighbors would comment on how they liked my dogwalkers - which is a big compliment because they also gossip when they see dogwalkers that they don't think are up to snuff! High marks for responsiveness, flexibility, reliability, professionalism, and most importantly, for love and care of my dog! I am really going to miss using this group on a regular basis. read more

We have used The FurKid Company from the moment our little Maltipoo was able to start taking on the streets of NYC (fall 2014 after all his puppy vaccine shots). He is now just over a year and we NEVER once had to worry about our little guy not being cared for by anyone in Beth's team. Beth is an absolute delight to deal with and always so accommodating. Our little guy is absolutely in love with Daphney and she is equally as sweet to him. Unfortunately he HATES walking so we haven't been using them as much as we did when he was younger but I never hesitate to call them when I want him to get some fresh air or have some play time in Thompkin's park while we are at work. Mike Hubbard is the best dog walker ever!!! Recess Dog walking services is so professional. Mike sends wonderful emails after every walk giving me updates on the time they had together. I recently had my Mom's dog stay with me and had Recess walk her in addition to my dog. Coordinating all of this was so easy and smooth. I really appreciate the quick responses and wonderful service they offer. I go to the dog park that Mike takes my dog Angel to and everyone knows Angel!
