Kate and her team (Morgan!) are amazing. We were very nervous to take our 8 week old Corgi puppy Bootsy to his first puppy socialization class, but within the first few minutes we knew we'd made the right decision. Kate and Morgan are amazing, patient, and extremely knowledgeable. Bootsy is now 16 weeks old and we have been attending a class (now TWO classes) a week since we got him. He is now in the basic obedience course and we plan to continue onto intermediate classes. We also did a private training with Kate, and we cannot express how caring and patient she is. She went above and beyond the course material and really took her time with us and gave us a wealth of information. It's led us to have an awesome puppy that people stop on the street and remark on how well behaved and sweet he is (for so young a pup!) Obviously, you have to put in the work too. Kate is there to give you the skills and tools but it is up to you to keep up with the training. Kate Perry is the bomb. I found her by researching a bunch of dog training sites and comparing prices in NYC. Before you attend any of Kate's classes, she recommends you contact her so she gets a sense of how your dog will react to other pups. I rescued my dog from a foster group that rescued her from a puppy mill. She was EXTREMELY timid and scared of everything. I brought my 8 month old bichon to every one of her socializing puppy classes for 4 months. My pup totally broke out of her shell and she was ready to move onto Kate's training classes, where she excelled. Kate generally has 2-4 "interns" who are also training to become dog trainers. They're very helpful in answering any questions when Kate is busy. Trust me. When you have your very first pup, you have tons of questions. Kate Perry is a dog whisperer. I wish I had known about her earlier and what it means/how important it is to get your puppy socialized early on. The first class for puppy classes is free! This is great economically, but it's also great because you really know what you're in for. She goes over fundamentals (along with help from other great knowledgeable staff) of puppy-raising and important commands that you should start to work on. As classes progress, she starts to advance certain commands and works with you individually if you're a repeat-attender. As first time puppy owners, we had no idea what to do with our new dog. Kate Perry and team helped us connected with our dog and teach her important skills, but we also got access to other pet parents in a support group environment to deal with all the issues every puppy owner faces. I had been carefully planning for the arrival of my second companion in life for many months before going to pick out my new labrador puppy. I travel constantly for work, and planned to have him trained as a service animal so that I could take him on flights with me. I wanted to be sure I started my new friend out on the right foot. In preparation, I had googled "dog trainers" in NYC and Kate's site was one of the first to come up. But it wasn't until, coincidentally, a few weeks later I was at the airport and a young labrador puppy walked past me with his owners through security. I marveled at how calm and trained this little puppy was in the craziness of the airport. He kept his eye on his owners and acted perfectly. I was blown away. "THAT'S WHAT I WANT!" I thought. I walked up to them and said, "Excuse me, but could I ask how you were able to get a puppy of this age so well behaved?" They both exclaimed at the same time "Kate Perry!" I'd remembered the name from my Google search. The rest is history. I emailed Kate's assistant and was immediately contacted to get my new boy enrolled in puppy and group classes as soon as I picked him up. I started him with Kate right at 9 weeks. We went to every puppy class and a full session of group training classes. The knowledge and training was invaluable. At 10 weeks my puppy was flying with me and acting just like the example I'd seen a few months before. Since then we've worked with Kate with private classes and advanced training. My little guy plays dead, gives "high-5's", rolls over, and we've only just started. More importantly than that, he's welcome everywhere we go, because he's so perfectly behaved. He's been to 5 star hotels around the world where dogs aren't normally allowed, and greeted by desk and bell staff that say "Logan is welcome here anytime." The most important thing I've learned from Kate is that 90% of the training is for you, not the dog, and those first few months can be crucial. We still have routine sessions with Kate learning new things every time, and Logan goes nuts when we senses Kate is due for a visit because he knows we're going to be learning AND having fun. Kate is an extraordinary trainer. I had taken my pup to another group class by a very well-known trainer; it was good, but not great. Kate's classes are indeed great. Her teaching is clear, engaging, and common-sensical. Not only does she break the lessons down slowly and effectively, but she also explains why she does certain things (and why she doesn't do others). She pragmatically aims her teaching at the NYC owner, with the understanding that big-city life presents special challenges. That approach is invaluable. I have had private and group classes with her, and both were amazing. After two private lessons in just a week, I was able to take my fearful puppy out for a long walk, whereas before that he just wouldn't budge (the previous trainer's feedback wasn't helping). His separation anxiety was much much better. In group class, he learned to focus and I learned how to work with him on several crucial commands. Financially speaking, her rates are extremely competitive. You get much much more for your money in Kate's classes. Her six-class course cost substantially less that my dog's first puppy course. The level of attention and support you get at Kate's classes cannot be matched. She works with fantastic people. Helen is absolutely terrific. Kate's "interns" are also very hands-on and helpful. I could not recommend Kate and her team more highly; they have been game changers for us. We have two dogs, and when we added the second--a rescue puppy who's got cattle dog in her mix and who needs a task basically all the time, we needed support. We signed up our pup, Marlow, for Puppy Socialization, and right away things started to shift in our home. Kate & Morgan really focus on training owners to prepare dogs for life in NYC--skateboards, strangers, sirens, other dog owners, etc--and also focus on nailing down basic commands so that your dog will pay attention to you. We also did some private sessions with Kate's team member, Sherri, who really helped us with crate training and behavior in the apartment (less barking when people come to the door, no jumping when people come into the apartment, meal time manners, etc). We found that the private sessions were really helpful for making our other dog, Wylie, comfortable with the new puppy and for setting some boundaries between the two dogs. Finally, we did Kate's Basic Obedience class with both dogs. This class was the most impactful for us. The dogs learned lots of skills that have totally transformed our dogs' behavior. With this class (and with lots of at home practice), both dogs are walking really well on leash in the city and have mastered commands like 'sit,' 'down,' 'stay,' 'come,' and (our favorite and the most life changing of all) 'leave it.' Kate and her team have been a wealth of resources and are always available to answer questions and to give recommendations. They really empower owners to become trainers themselves--in all of the work that we did with them, we learned how to communicate with our dogs, and that we have to do the work and practice what we've learned. From that work, both of our dogs seem so happy and well adjusted, and their behavior is great--we get told daily by strangers how good both dogs are. Chows are stubborn and mean....saws everyone until the see Pumba the 8 month old chow obey and tolerate stagers (even babies) touching him! We worked with Kate from the day we brought Pumba home at 9 weeks and went from a nippy baby peeing and pooping everywhere, getting put in time out constantly at playtime for not responding to cues to a certifiable GOOD BOY who respects other dogs boundaries and always plays nicely. His impartial parents know he is the star of doggy daycare. Chows are difficult, but can absolutely be trained to be good family pets with with help of Kate and Morgan! read more

I'm a dog walker that's been coming to class for 6 months now (and counting) and I can attest that Kate is an outstanding trainer!! I worked with Kate and her wonderful interns about 3 or 4 years ago with Gracie our adopted Rescue dog. Gracie didn't need the training as much as I did. Kate is fabulous. Our rescued border collie is a proud graduate of Kate's puppy socialization and basic obedience classes. When we brought him home, we had never raised a puppy before--Kate and her team taught all 3 of us everything we needed to know about communicating with each other! Kate Perry is fantastic. She's one of the best dog trainers around. She gets to the heart of who your dog is and tailors her classes to each dog. Awful. I would never go back to her or recommend her to anyone. She did not know how to address the issues my dog was having and when she tried something that did not work she would say "see I just wanted to show you that would not work". When I called her to discuss an issue I was having with my dog she called me back and left me a voice message saying maybe I should get rid of my dog and place or place my dog somewhere else outside the city such as in the country. When I called her back to discuss this with her I got her voicemail. I left her a message asking her to contact me to discuss her voice message. I have never heard back from her. That was over a year ago. She is very expensive and does not know how to train a dog except for what she has read in books. She is unprofessional and felt it appropriate to leave a message on my voicemail saying I should place my dog elsewhere and then did not have the decency to return my call to discuss this. Since that time I have worked with a trainer who is very creative and knowledgeable. My dog has become a wonderful pet and companion and I could not imagine life without her. read more
