I was recently in town and per my usual, I had stayed at the Gallery on Wells. I have friends who live in this beautiful building whom I visit a few times a year. The building is conveniently located to everywhere I need to be, the amenities are top notch, the hospitality of the door staff and the office team are exceptional, my friends, who are 5 and 6 year residents, absolutely love everything about living at the Gallery on Wells. I highly recommend this building if you are in need of a conveniently located apartment home, run by professionals, who actually recognize you and know you by name!!! read more

The reason I am giving a great review is because of Serena. Serena has been wonderful since the day I moved in. Any issue that arises, she is the one to take care of it. She ensures the safety and comfortability of all of the residents and takes the time to make sure all individuals are taken care of. She is the heart of the gallery on wells and everyone else in the building agrees! We all know that there is an open door policy with her and feel comfortable enough to bring anything to her. The ladies in the leasing office, Serena and Nay, were extremely friendly and helpful with all of my questions prior to moving in. On move in day, we were assisted by a gentleman named Matt. He went over and above to make sure we understood the process, rode the elevator with us to explain how to get to the floor you need, and even showed us where to find the apartment. Trust the other terrible *real* reviews you see online for this building! Beware of even touring here if you care about your privacy - I was recently walking through the lobby when I overheard one of the leasing agents openly making fun of a prospect's budget to the doorman (and they were using names). -Some floors are designated as "fur free" in leases, meaning nobody on the floor is supposed to have a pet unless it's an emotional support animal. My "fur free" floor had many pets on it, one of which was a puppy that barked incessantly (to the point where I couldn't take phone calls in my apartment). When I surfaced the issue to management, I was told that I "needed to be patient while the fur baby adjusted to its new environment." So not only did they violate their own lease terms, but they didn't address a serious noise complaint that disturbed numerous tenants for months. They've had the same issue on other floors, according to other tenants I've spoken with. -The building is not kept up well. The apartments are outfitted with cheap appliances, floors, and finishes that break. When something breaks and you have to submit a maintenance request to have it fixed, you get charged for it after the fact without being told. I cut my foot after a piece of the floor in my apartment came up and instead of apologizing and fixing it, they charged me $28. The amenity spaces are surface clean, but actually disgusting. The building exterior is cleaned once per year, so be prepared for your windows to be so filthy you can barely see out of them. -The property manager is rude, discriminatory, and shouldn't be in a service industry. There are other reviews on here that cite her abuse - BELIEVE THEM. She charges non-rent items to tenants without explanation or evidence, addresses questions with condescending and inaccurate responses, and relentlessly bullies anyone who complains. Also (hint hint), look at Google reviews that mention the property manager in particular. -BEWARE of moving in or out of this building! Upon giving notice, management will send you a threatening email saying that the apartment must be "in better condition" than it was when you moved in, and then "suggest" you hire your own cleaning crew, or you'll be charged a $40-$60/hour cleaning fee (the subtext is that the building relies on tenants to make their apartments "move in ready" for the next tenants - while most "luxury" buildings would conduct their own turnover cleanings - so be prepared to move into filth). Also, insist on an in-person inspection when you move out! I did because I was worried management would try to charge me for damages I didn't cause, and sure enough, they did it anyway. Things they're billing me for include: (1) $590 to replace their refrigerator because they claim I dented the door (image attached - it's barely noticeable). (2) To fill in pin-sized picture hook holes, so beware of even hanging a photo in your apartment (image also attached - they're charging me even though my lease explicitly states that "We will permit a reasonable number of small nail holes for hanging pictures on sheetrock walls and in grooves of wood-paneled walls, unless our rules state otherwise."). (3) For putting my furniture legs directly on the floors, "because I should have known to put felt pads under my furniture." (image also attached - nowhere in my lease does it say that I could not put furniture directly on the floors - they're charging me $8 per floor tile). As a general note for move ins - inspect EVERY INCH of your unit and put any damages (no matter how tiny) on paper or you WILL be charged for it upon move out, whether you caused it or not. During the move out inspection, we were screamed at and called liars by the assistant property manager, adding to the harassment I experienced from the property manager at this building. They also threatened to report me to credit unions even though I have no outstanding balance with them and have never been late with payments. Do yourself a favor and choose one of the many other buildings in River North to live in - the building right across the street is a far superior building with comparable prices and you won't be treated terribly. They also pay for fake reviews to improve their rating, so if this one gets removed, it's because they falsely flagged it. read more

I'm in my third year with The Gallery on Wells and have truly enjoyed my time here. Gallery Team - Gabby is an absolute joy. She's incredibly helpful, attentive, and is just a gift to the world. The front desk staff are equally as wonderful. Frank, Ken, and Trisha are so nice and welcoming. Maintenance is quick to respond and requests are easily resolved. One of the maintenance team members is even my cat's best friend. They are just that delightful. Units - The units offered at The Gallery have great layouts, specifically for the convertible units. Not only is there a bed nook, but the living space is very generous for a studio layout. The finishes are quite good and the in-unit laundry is always a huge plus. Best of all, they are pet friendly. Amenities - The amenities are absolutely incredible! There's a rooftop deck, grills, pool, fitness center, sauna, business center, and dog run, all of which are well maintained. Packages are managed through Luxer One which makes pickup a breeze. Any packages that are unable to be held by the Luxer boxes are placed in the management office for easy pickup. Building Events - Perhaps one of my favorite aspects of living at The Gallery is our artist in residence, Luis. He hosts periodic art classes and has his art displayed throughout the city. Additionally, The Gallery has hosted a variety of events including salsa dancing, movies by the pool, art tour, bingo, and on-the-go breakfast during my time here. Location - Located in River North, the location cannot be beat! Fitness studios and restaurants are plentiful and three different grocery stores are within easy walking distance. read more

I lived in the Gallery on Wells for two years and just moved out. I was simply moving out only for a change of pace and scenery. I have all great things to say about the Gallery! My favorite part was the views. You are NEVER going to get a better view, day and night it is amazing. Gallery Team - I wanted to give MAJOR cuddos to both Gabby in the managment office and Craig. Gabby went out of her way during Covid-19 to help me with tasks in my apartment while I was across the country. Craig couldn't of been nicer and has helped me with a number of tasks throughout my time at the Gallery. They both have been EXTREMELY helpful the last two years! Two reasons why I didn't give it 5 stars but SO close. One being the front desk. I do want to recognize that when you are paying a lot to live in a luxury high rise it is important to me that these people try to get to know you. Not once in my two years living at the gallery did any front desk worker try to learn my name. Trisha, Ken and Frank couldn't have been nicer but I would have loved for them to at a bare minimum to try to learn my name. Also in the managment office Trudy is extremely cold and rude and should not be there. Whenever I had a problem or something that needed attention I would ALWAYS go to Gabby or Craig. One time I had to go to Trudy for an isolated incident and she could not have been ruder and was uninterested in anything I told her. This was a serious incident that needed her help and attention and she was no help. Lastly, I would highly recommend anyone looking to live here it is great I cannot say enough good things about the building. read more

Please use caution if you are considering renting here. I live in an ADA unit, and I noticed in November that my windows were whistling and letting air into the unit. I submitted a work order in early November to have the windows fixed. It is now March, and this issue has not been solved. Management has indicated that the window handles on ALL ADA units are defective and in need of replacement, but it has been nearly five (5) months, and this has not been resolved. Management did not offer to move me to another unit (after numerous complaints) and INCREASED the rental price for next year. Really unethical. Very disappointed in this building. I hope they do not rent out my unit until the window issue is resolved. The pictures show the blue electrical tape I had to use to try to prevent air from getting in the unit. The Gallery on Wells is a gorgeous building that's perfect for busy professionals who work downtown. The units are beautiful and there are tons of restaurants, fitness studios & coffee shops within walking distance. My pet care team, Highrise Pet Care, frequently works with the concierge & management team and they are always super helpful and easy to work with! read more

I moved in early June and thought I'd give it at least a month before writing my first review. Pros: -Views, Views, VIEWS. The views are to die for and there is ample natural sunlight in both the main area, kitchen and bedroom which sold me on this place in the first place. -Beautiful amenity deck on the 10th floor with a POOL and hot tub. I appreciate that it's open until 11 pm because sometimes you just want to go to the hot tub later at night and look at the city skyline. -Large gym with plenty of equipment- weights and cardio on the 8th floor -Very friendly front door staff! -10% off coffee at Dollop Coffee which is in the same building/lobby. -Many rewards through Magellan across the neighborhood for food/drink discounts. -Cement balconies so you can sit outside in the rain without getting wet. -Fun events for residents occasionally offered -I cannot hear anything from my neighbors in my apartment. This has been a huge issue at other places I've lived. -Heat/ AC included -Floors in the main unit and bathroom are very easy to keep clean-- everything is brand new. Cons: -Management must figure out a solution to the package situation. They use Luxer One for their packages where you get an email when you have a new package and then go to the 8th floor and punch in a code to release it from a secure vault. Sometimes I get my packages over 24 hours after they've been delivered. As an Amazon Prime member-sometimes it's crucial I get the packages within the 2 day shipping time but I'll have to wait until management puts it in the Luxer One vault. This place would be perfect if it weren't for this! -My dog refuses to use the 3rd floor doggy potty area if it's been recently hosed off. It's a combination indoor/outdoor area with cement all around. There are hoses around to clean up the #1 messes from the pups but once it's been hosed off I guess it doesn't "smell" like an area acceptable to go potty for him. If there is leftover #1 from other dogs in the room he will use it. This is why I end up taking him outside most of the time and he pees right on the sidewalk. Sorry neighbors- there's no grassy areas right outside. -Water in the shower does not get as hot as I'd like. I turn it to as far hot as it will go every shower. read more

The convertible unit layout really is amazing. I've lived at many studios of the same square footage as their convertible and the convertible layout makes all the difference. I've loved downtown Chicago all my life. We looked around for a few months to make sure that we'd make the right decision. And then we found Gallery, close to everything we needed. Our main decision maker was the building staff. As soon as we walked in, we were welcomed and felt at home. We met Trudy the building manager she greeted us at the entrance of the office, such a warm welcoming smile. With all of the options to pick from in River North, how do you make the right decision? For me, it was finding someone that was honest and to the point. This person for me was Sam Kizis on the Gallery team. A year ago I started this process with Sam and ended up not being ready to move but regardless- Sam was patient and kept me in the loop. Fast forward to a month ago where I restarted the process and reached out to Sam. Without hesitation, she showed me the same units (due to my crazy request) and immediately when something opened with my move in date, I got a phone call. To say that Sam was patient with me through this process would be an understatement (repeat questions and silly ones at that). The building is so clean, updated, and has all of the amenities (best in the area I would argue). I am happy to say that I am finally moving to the Gallery this Spring and could not be happier with the process. read more

During COVID we were hopeful that Magellan management would be understanding about rent costs and the current economy but that was far from the case. Both my husband and I have had salary decreases and every other luxury building we looked at in the city was offering at bare minimum 1 month off (many offered much more). After presenting Magellan Management with research, specific rates, and facts it was clear they were unwilling to work with us in any capacity during these times. We were excellent tenants with no pets, no children, no parties, not smokers, etc in an already low capacity building. We were only asking for only 1 month, which based on our research is standard. Additionally, we had been paying a premium for additional amenities for private residents including private balconies which were shut down through 90% of quarantine with zero updates. I suggested allowing apartment residents to "check out" weights or pieces of exercise equipment and pay a small monthly fee, an idea I never received a response too. They also never put together updates on when the gym or pool would open. In closing, they also mis-priced our current unit significantly lower 3 separate times and when we called we were told this was an "error" and it was not able to be rented to us. The doormen and maintenance staff at Gallery were wonderful and it's sad the management team was so unhelpful and dismissive. I would not rent from Magellan again. They don't communicate, listen or care about residents. read more
