After 30 years in the 'burbs, my wife and I moved downtown in late 2021 into another, historic building on N Lake Shore Drive. We spent 3 years there, re-acclimating to City living. While we enjoyed our city life, we decided to move to 500 N Lake Shore Drive after viewing 10 other options. Boy, are we glad we made the decision we did. 500 N Lake Shore Drive (517 N Peshtigo Ct to ride-sharing drivers) is an awesome place to live. (A recent Plains State visitor, after a summer weekend here, said "You guys live in a resort!") Some days, it feels that way. The building is owned and managed by The Related Company. Related builds, leases out, and manages their own buildings. Such complete vertical integration results in a wonderful rental experience. Property Management, Concierges, and Maintenance all work together on a daily basis (including daily staff meetings among all of them) to help ensure that residents have a quality daily living experience. The amenities are all here - pool and pool deck with 6 grills (kept spotless by staff if a resident fails to clean up after their use), spa, huge Equinox Gym (also owned by Related), Common Area featuring fireplaces, pool table, and work/study areas, business center, special event rental rooms, dedicated dog wash, and Amazon Package pick-up lockers for secure package delivery. 500 N LSD has got it all. The staff - as a group - are bend-over-backwards accommodating and friendly. They pay attention to detail and are always willing to do the little things to make living here an exceptional experience. Resident parking attached to the building is operated by LAZ Parking, and have been easy to work with. We've been here for almost a year, and are thrilled we made the move we did. He was rude and dismissive from the moment I arrived, and made me feel discriminated against because of my appearance and accent. No one should be treated this way--especially in a place that claims to uphold respect and professionalism. I truly hope management addresses this kind of behavior so that all guests and residents are treated with the dignity they deserve. read more

I lived here for a year (only left because I relocated out of Chicago) and it is the best! I've lived in a lot of high rise buildings and this by far has been the best. I lived in a Related building in Manhattan for 3 years which is why I checked out this building when I moved to Chicago and the definitely have the best of what you expect from Related but with that extra midwest warmth and sweetness! The The amenities are fantastic and always well-kept (clean gym, working equipment, nice outdoor space and dog area if you're too lazy to walk more than 1 min away ;) ). The staff - the front desk, maintenance, and management - is so friendly and attentive. When I had to cut my lease early, Haley in the management office was very understanding and walked me through all my options to figure out what worked best for me. All the front desk guys are great - always nice to come home to see those smiling faces (Edward is my personal favorite) and I never really had to use the maintenance staff (because nothing in the apt broke) but they were always there to help - even helping me with groceries and large packages. So sad to leave this building - if I could have stayed in Chicago, I would have never left! :) read more

When I first moved to Chicago in 2016, I was quickly captivated by the glittering skyline, and among the architectural gems, one particular building caught my eye: this one. It was very high tech and foo-foo. Right along the shores of Lake Michigan, it immediately painted itself as my dream building after a one night stand with a guy who lived here. Look, at least I keep it real. Shame me all you want lol! It was 2016, I was new to the City and was going through the "phase" lol. At that time it was undeniably top of the line. Very fabulous and foo foo and luxurious. However, things change quickly especially in this boom of construction Chicago is having. Newer buildings, like ONE Chicago, have joing the chat with an array of ultra-modern amenities. These developments, replete with their expansive roof terraces, pet spas, podcast studios ( yeah, I've seen buildings with podcast studios lol) and in-house dining options, raise the bar in the luxury residential sector, inevitably leading one to draw comparisons. While it's indeed an excellent place to live, it is beginning to feel as though its not the 'IT' building. It's like the W Hotel. Remember the 2010's when the W was like the place to be? Now it's like not that fab anymore (probably due to the Starwood Merger). It's giving very W Hotel vibes now. Compared to other buildings in 2023, it lacks the unique amenities others , it compensates with a high level of service. Throughout my stay, I've experienced nothing but courtesy and professionalism from the attentive staff. Any maintenance issues were dealt with swiftly, and concierge services were always on point. The amiable staff was consistently welcoming, making the residence feel like a home rather than a mere piece of high-end real estate. I was able to get a great deal that was too enticing to pass up. It's a big space, good location and it's still a good building. Its location is second to none as it's literally in a perfect location, the staff are pretty cool, and it offers a comfortable living experience. Despite the new buildings popping up left and right, it remains a decent choice for those seeking to enjoy life in River North but they need to start updating fast. read more

This location has totally dropped in value. Management, customer service, unit insulation, plumbing etc makes this building and RELATED a terrible option amongst their competitors in the centralized downtown chicago area. Management is extremely unprofessional. They are rude and will harass their tenants. They've tried turning off my fob because I had my mask down while alone in the gym. Now I have to use my neighbors fob to go to the gym or knock on the doors to be let in. Who turns off your fob without notifying you? Especially during your last month? Please save yourself the OVERPRICED rent and move somewhere else downtown. Their "app" and rentcafe platform is glitchy and their customer service is often abhorrent. It is not worth it! MOVE ANYWHERE ELSE DOWNTOWN. Not here! Natalie often harasses younger women of color at this location. She is a "manager" but seems to be extremely bitter and very unprofessional. She knocks on my door and comes to my apartment unannounced to have conversations that she ignores through email. She also tried serving me 2 weeks before I vacated my apartment to simply try to intimidate me. It's comical but seriously needs to be addressed. They turned my rent on autopay without my permission and made charges to my accounts without my permission. Again, who does that? I will be updating with photos and more detail. My wife and I lived here for the year of 2016 and we were very happy all the way thru our stay. The amenities are excellent and luxury resort style. The staff is amazing. The concierge my hat off to the team of staff at the front desk, we have lived in other high rises and this team is by far the best team in Chicago. Also I want to give kudos to Will and Johnny they are world class customer service. The entire team is extraordinary but these two stand out. We did not encounter any problems while we were there, they only did have a huge leak on the 12th floor and Gym, but they got on it quickly. My wife and I were down there and the ceiling just began to leak over us. We alarmed the team and they jumped on it immediately. Another problem was the pool was always super busy in the summer giving you a Las Vegas college party vive, which we were not happy at all because it gets flooded by lots of college students that don't even live there. Most of the time is was guest of guest and that was not pleasant as several times we stumbled upon overly drunk college kids and some were just wondering in their own. Hopefully that changed and management got on top of that. People would just lay towels on the deck floor because there was no chairs available. Just too over crowded. The gym is LARGE and has Amazing views of the lake and beach with floor to ceiling glass. Such a lovely place to live. I love the changes of the color of the water. When the sun hits it, it makes it look like its shinning and glistening, when the clouds are dark it looks grayish, and when the skies are clear and blue, the water looks deep blue! The amenities are fantastic. The gym is large with state of the art equipment. Even the views from the gym are incredible. The staff is polite and attentive. Best building in Streeterville! I lived here for three years in a studio on the 30th floor and saw the building undergo some changes to what it offers and also in management. While I was here, the building moved from in-home package delivery and holding packages at the front desk to Amazon Lockers and in-building dry cleaning to Tide Cleaners, as well as having Internet and cable (with HBO and Showtime) included with utilities to having to get it separately. Though I felt that some of these changes took away from the more personal touches of the building at times, management made the transition very seamless, was always responsive to any concerns, and was determined to do good by its residents, honoring any previous cable contracts instead of forcing changes without discussion. What kept me at the building my entire time I lived in Chicago was its location, beautiful views, and wonderful staff. Lashanda, Immanuel, and Greg at Concierge were the best to come home to and sincerely cared about the residents, remembering my name and unit, greeting me by name, and chatting with me whenever they weren't too busy at the front desk. Roman and Ronald in maintenance were a pleasure to get to know. Work orders were always completed ASAP, and the team took the time to explain to me why things were not working or what further repairs were needed so I was also kept apprised of the situation. Kris Jackson, the assistant GM, is also very communicative and responsive to any concerns or questions about the building, always showing that she truly cares about the residents' needs. She once even got back to me when she was out of the office for a long weekend! As far as other reviews' noise concerns, I think it has to do with the luck of the draw as far as neighbors go. I did not have any loud dogs on my floor for a majority of my time at the building, so noise was not a huge issue for me. At that point, I chalked it up to the units being well-insulated for noise. However, once a neighbor moved in with louder dogs, I could see how some residents would say that barking was a nuisance. Nonetheless, working with management and the front desk could not have been easier to address the issue. They have protocols in place to talk to the tenants and checked in after any noise complaints I had to make sure the issue was not ongoing. From the moving in process to moving out (amid a pandemic no less), living at 500 LSD was a dream. The units are amazing, have beautiful finishes, and really made Chicago feel like home to me. Not to mention, the amenities floor was a godsend, especially the Equinox gym and spaces to study and get work done in common areas. I also always felt very safe in the building -- you can't use the elevator without a key fob. Even if a non-resident manages to get past the front desk and into the elevator without a key fob, there are no buttons for floors, so they would have no means of going up the elevator without a key or being first sent up by Concierge. Lastly, I could not commend 500 LSD enough for their handling of CoVid-19. They put measures in place to encourage social distancing in elevators and erected clear glass partitions at the front desk to protect employees. Despite the ongoing crisis and uncertainty, the level of service and open communication between the building and residents never wavered. They sent clear emails announcing what amenities would close, how they were addressing reopening, and security measures put in place during times of potential unrest. I was sad to go when I moved back to California but could not recommend this building enough for anyone moving to the city. The employees, the security of the building, and the beautiful units, all within walking distance from fantastic shopping and restaurants - what's not to love! read more

I honestly can't even find the words to describe what a wonderful experience it is to live in 500 LSD. I have lived in a one bedroom apartment for two years now and just renewed my lease for another year because I just can't imagine living somewhere else. Apart from everything that the building provides in terms of beauty and amenities (which you can see in other reviews by other residents), what really has kept me in the building is its people. They make you feel truly at home, and they are your friends above all. They go above and beyond to meet all your needs and they all do it with a smile! I really need to give a special shoutout to a couple of people whom I really can't thank enough and are the primary reason I'm staying for another year. CRYSTAL is a literal SUPERSTAR. She does everything with a smile and all she ever does is give you the most positive vibes no matter what. She takes care of everything and so quickly, and it really feels like you're being taken care of by family. She's so professional and so friendly, I feel like I can rely on her for literally everything so thank you thank you thank you! And thank you for all the laughs along the way! Also a special shoutout to everyone at concierge who have always gone above and beyond for me, but especially Lashanda, Immanuel and Vince - it's an incredible feeling to be coming back home and getting such a warm welcome from all these amazing human beings! It is rare that you see 5 star reviews for an apartment building but 500 N Lake Shore Drive gets my highest recommendation! I broke this down into categories in case these are things you may be looking for in a luxury apartment experience. UNITS My unit was a studio/efficiency and it was spacious and I never had any real problems. Appliances were all new and functioned well and my view was to die for. They also have really gorgeous guest suites for relatives and friends visiting the city that are much more reasonable than hotel rates. LOCATION What can I say, after living in 6 different Chicago neighborhood, Streeterville is my favorite. The walk score is close to perfect as within blocks you have Walgreens, Chase and PNC Banks, AM C Movie Theatre, Navy Pier and the lakefront, Capital Coffee Shop, Kanela Brunch Restaurant, Northwestern Hospital, and many stores fitness locations (Puree Barre, Orange Theory, CorePowerYoga). I did not have a car and didn't miss it. There is a ZipCar in the building for urgent transportation needs outside of Uber. STAFF Will is the chief manager at the front desk and he is AMAZING. Service with a smile and he ensure that residents have what they need from the wider team. Ed and Vinny are support staff and are without question two of the coolest dudes you will meet. Haley crushes it as a general manager and Kris is just as great as Resident Service Specialist. For candor, I saw a few reviews where Haley didn't receive top markings for managing the building years ago, but since them the team has made tons of improvements and I think other residents would agree that she does a great job. No building is without challenges and I have given this team high marks because how they respond is pretty great. PRICING 500 N Lake Shore is priced competitively, and in 3 years my rent never went up more than $40. There are brand new buildings popping up all over Chicago but Relate really invests in keeping this building up and it still looks and feels new. AMENITIES The gym and the pool area favorites.There are fitness events and classes monthly and during Chicago's major events - Air and Water Show, 4th of July, NYE, the pool has a stunning view. The business center was the least favorite - the printer is often out but the Mac computers are always working. Overall, I had a wonderful 3 years at this building, and would recommend it- especially for transplants that are looking for a home away from home in a neighborhood where you can walk to just about anything. read more

500 N Lake Shore Drive is a stunning, super lux, high security building where the staff go the extra mile on a daily basis. As a 7-year veteran renter, I cannot say enough wonderful things about living at 500 N LSD. My apartment is gorgeous with a beautiful view of the lake, the river and DuSable Harbor. The appliances in my apartment are all stainless, high end and should anything ever need repair, the work is completed within hours, at no charge. This building is so secure that visitors cannot get past the 24/7 concierge to even get on the elevator. The Equinox gym is to die for with super modern equipment that receive frequent tech tune ups. The common areas are all beautiful, super clean, the pool and the pool deck are monitored and cleaned twice daily. I can highly recommend living at 500 N LSD. I have been living in this building for more than 3 years and I waited this long to write this review because I want a review based on facts and substance not rants or raves. I have lived only in A class buildings both renting and owning so I have a very good idea on what luxury is. I have to say that this is the most I paid for a 1 bdrm and the nicest. Is it worth it? That depends on what matters most to you. Lets start with the location...Streeterville! This is one of the top 3 areas in Chicago. I still prefer River North over Streeterville and Gold Coast but this area give you proximity to the lake and the mag mile. The area is very touristy because the building is right across Navy Pier, one of the few things I dislike esp during the summer time when tourist season is at its peak. But you can forget about that the moment you walk inside. The building defines the standard for what luxury should be. So many buildings tout themselves as luxury but after staying in this building you will truly know what luxury means. I have a one bedroom unit in the 30+ floor facing NE which gives me a great view of the lake both from my living and bedroom. The kitchen has gas range which is a big plus for people who love to cook. The bathroom is like a 5 star hotel bathroom with carrera marble and ceramic tile. Only downside is that it only has a regular not soaking tub. The storage is really generous not to mention a walk in closet. My utility package which includes everything except phone and electric bill is 135 and my typical electric bill is in the 30s per mo. Not bad at all considering I cook 6 days a week and work from home. For those of you who are noise sensitive like me here are my thoughts. Keep in mind that I have an abnormal standard for quiet so for a regular person these might not be any issue. My first year, I did not hear much from the person above me, the second year when a couple with 2 big dogs moved I could hear them more often especially when they play catch with the 2 dogs. The sound just travels easily on those faux wood floors. Its amazing that there is concrete between floors but you can still hear these sounds. You wont hear regular footsteps unless someone is wearing heels. I don't hear much from the neighbors beside me but I do hear it when the shower is running from the adjacent units. You can also hear noises from LSD and Grand esp during the super busy summer months. Construction is ongoing for One Bennet Park across the building so pick your unit well To put things in perspective, I am signing a lease for my 4th year today so how bad could these noises be right? Lets talk about the amenities, this place get 6 out of 5 stars. Yes, it even exceeds your wildest dreams. It is a wow place when you go to the 12th floor. 1. The state of the art gym is equinox. I know personal trainers who say its one of the best gym that they have seen in a rental property and I agree. 2. If you work from home like I do, the 12th floor has a big area that can be used as a work place. This is one of my favorite aspects of this building and it really brings great value to someone who WFH. 3. The pool area is pretty sweet. 4. Lots of grills and seating area out by the pool. But I think the best aspect of this building is the level of service. When I first moved in, I spoke with the bldg manager Sasha and I told her. Are you striving to be a Marriot or a Peninsula? She quickly said the latter. This is what you will get from this building. The most important aspect for me is customer service and the people behind this building knows world class customer service. Behind all this is the mother of the ship Haley Rafferty, the building manager who ensures her ship runs smoothly and flawlessly. Having traveled the world and stayed in luxury and ultra luxury accommodations, I am very critical of service and this building manager passes my test with flying colors. She is professional, efficient yet personable as well. I have raised issues with Haley multiple times and she quickly addresses it. If you have a reasonable request and a founded issue, rest assured that it will be addressed. If you are just an entitled trust fund baby brat then the issue is with you. Yes we have those types in the building as well. Another great asset for 500 LSD is Will Rivera who is the face of the building. He is the lead concierge guy. His personality and can do attitude makes living in the building even better. Emmanuel and Gerard are great too, some of the door staff need some polishing. Big props to the maintenance crew (Johnny, Aaron, Ronald). If you have an issue with your unit, they are there to fix it immediately. Moved to GA about a month ago and hated to leave. Apartment, building amenities, dog friendliness and location were all great, but the STAFF is what made living there the BEST. Met Crystal first and quickly learned she was a tremendous "go to" resource. The concierge staff all learned our names, are incredibly friendly and often went above and beyond, especially Lorenzo, Lashanda, Emmanuel and Vinny. The maintenance staff who worked in our apartment when we were there were also fantastic - Ron and Samantha. We very much enjoyed the special activities, food truck visits and even the online posts from neighbors selling items before move outs. We lived there just over a year and there's one thing I don't get. The management never updated their staff photo page - I couldn't even tell you what the manager and assistant manager looked like - no pictures. To that I say "C'mon man!!! Is it really that hard to keep your staff page updated??? Especially since your staff is probably your best asset?!?" That being said, I can only hope the management recognizes the hard work the staff does for them - a tremendous sales tool! If we ever have the chance to move back, we would definitely return to live in this building! read more

I really want to like 500 Lake Shore Drive but we have had too many issues and too many property managers/ staff since we moved in. Pros: Location - great location although public transportation can be limited this Far East. New building - for the most part the building still looks new. Kitchen - really love the finishes in the kitchen. Cons: Management: Haley is just as incompetent as the previous manager. I honestly don't know where Related finds these property managers. Related is a great company and should not hand over a building to clearly unqualified people. - we had our car broke into our 3rd night living here. The guy literally walked in past our parking 'security guard' who only called 911 and did not try to stop the guy from entering the building. Naturally I was furious as this guy was only in the garage for 3 minutes which means he cased the garage prior so that he knew exactly what cars he wanted to break into. The old property manager tried to give us the run around and I had to hire an attorney to make Related pay for my deductible. As other reviews have stated - the garage is very busy and a lot of people come and go, your car/ you are never really safe... Even in the nesting area. - We moved into the building in January with the expectation that when a one bedroom apartment came available - we would move. The leasing office and management have made it so difficult for us to try and move that we will just sublease our apartment and move back to Aqua in LakeShore East! Staff: - We have lived at various high end buildings around the city and have always loved our doorman and other staff. 500 doorman are worthless and quite frankly - extremely frustrating to deal with. Anytime they call to let us know we have a food delivery instead of saying "Hi Mark, I have a food delivery here for you - is it okay for me to send them up? ..... Great I'll send your food up now. Have a gray night" we get " your food is here and on its way up" and then they hang up without us ever getting a word in. Bryan... I think is the name of the admin in the management office - not sure what he even does. I think he has been with the building the longest but for some reason we don't really know what he does. Residents: We live on the 28th floor and the smell of weed is always prevalent. I have talked with other residents on the floor and we all know what unit it is coming from. We have told management over and over again about the unit and how frustrating it is to have visitors or family visiting and it smell like you live back in a college dorm. The building seems to be a party place. We have had issues with the people above us partying until 3:00 AM on a TUESDAY with load music and a girl who laughed like a dying animal. You might as well avoid the pool in the summer if you have family or kids in town. I had family visiting and we decided to head down to the hot tub. My two cousins who are 9 and 10 got to hear a story about one of the residents 'Fu**** stripers in Mexico' and how he prefers a certain type of mouth to give him oral sex. Fast forward 30 minutes and my cousin needs to go to the bathroom. I show him the men's bathroom/ pool locker room and as soon as we walk in there is a guy doing two lines of blow on the bathroom counter. Honestly for the amount of money we pay to live here, Aqua is a much better place to live or even Loews (which has way better amenities). If you are someone who works hard and wants to enjoy the time you do get away from work -- don't move here. You'll find yourself finding every reason to stay at hotels around the city just to avoid the circus that is 500 North Lake Shore Drive. read more

My partner and I were among the very first residents to move into the building when it was new. The first few weeks were heaven because we had the building and amenities almost to ourselves and the staff had not yet started to turn over or become burned out from the frat and sorority-like residents. The building is stunning, among the best we have lived in anywhere in Chicago, LA, or New York. Related Rentals which is from New York, knows luxury rentals better than anyone and in some ways, I still miss our apartment because we had a corner two bedroom overlooking the lake and the views were incredible and the interior finishes sophisticated for a rental. I also loved the Equinox gym and really enjoyed running while looking at the lake and city. Then the students moved in and management was completely overwhelmed. Who knew there were so many entitled, trust fund kids in one neighborhood who could afford (well, who's mommy and daddy could afford) rent here? As other posters have noted, loud parties every night of the week became the norm, we smelled cigarette and weed smoke all of the time and the pool was out of control and not in a good way. One night we saw a drunk dude in a horse head mask have sex with a woman in the hot tub while their buddies got naked in the pool. Classy. Complaints to the totally inexperienced and inept management were met with vague promises but basically nothing was done. The doorman and concierge staff were equally frustrated and we felt sorry for them because when the building opened, all but one were excellent and tried to enforce the rules but received zero support from building management. Related's buildings in New York are generally very well run and I am surprised that they would entrust such a beautiful property to unqualified management in Chicago or allow the building to became the luxury frat house that it is. Simply not allowing guarantors would get rid of the problem residents and encourage professionals who actually work for their money to move in instead. The building itself is amazing. The community is awful and I would never recommend it to friends or family over the age of 20. read more

I've been living here 2 months now, and I *adore* it. Here are just some of the many, many reasons: 1. My apartment is gorgeous. It looks exactly like the model pictures on their website, and it was immaculately clean when I moved in. I have a studio, but it is spacious, and the clever way the closets and kitchen cabinets are designed allows more than enough storage space (and I have a lot of kitchen equipment). The kitchen is a joy to cook in, with plenty of counter space and a very well-performing oven, range, exhaust fan, and under-the-cabinet and over-the-stove lighting. My view is to the North, but I still get a lake view because I have 2 mirrors positioned such that I can see the reflection of the beach by Navy Pier and the water when I'm in the kitchen or living room. 2. The amenities on the 12th floor are equally gorgeous. Outside, look to the left and you get full view of the lake all around, and look to the right and you get a wonderful city view. There's free coffee, tea, and cream, many cabanas and grills, a hot tub, and a pool. I went to a social event up there for the residents, and there were complimentary drinks and great food. They have a pool table, a library with another gorgeous lake view, and too many other features for me to list here. Everything is immaculately clean and beautifully designed. 3. The door men and amenity supervisor are professional and friendly. Have a guest, maid, or delivery coming over when you can't be home? Just authorize them to be let in using the resident website. They also coordinated my move. There are dollies available by the lobby if you're taking lots of groceries or other weighty items up to your apartment. 4. A key fob is needed just to have the elevator go to your floor, so I feel very secure here. 5. The utility package is generous and reasonably priced (a flat fee [I think $85?] includes heat, A/C, cable, internet, water, trash, etc.). I only pay electric, and I gather I'm just paying for the amount that my appliances and lights use. Again, it is a dream to live here, and I would recommend it to anyone. I haven't moved into 500 Lake Shore yet so I'll be updating my review at some point. I wanted to give 5 stars to the amazing help we got from the management in finding an apartment for us. In particular Elizabeth has been the best leasing manager I found in Chicago so far. Very patient, always available to answer questions or show apartments that we already seen also on her day off. There is a very distinctive approach that 500 Lake Shore seems to take, less corporate and more close to the people. That is probably one of the reasons why their building has almost no available aparments and the reason why they keep building new constructions. They don't just know how to deliver luxury finishes, they know how to provide a luxury service. Very good so far. read more

I'm giving a one-star solely based on management. I have been living at this building for 2 years now and it seems they were very desperate to hire the current GM, Natalie Stubbs. I have never met such an unprofessional, rude, and aggressive woman in management. Related has really made a lot of paying tenants uncomfortable with this vindictive woman running the show. Going from Shruti (who was a gem!) to a woman like this is extremely disappointing. Other than that, the front desk had some rock stars! I have not seen a few similar faces in a while and now when I walk in the building it is not very warm and friendly as it used to be...unless Immanuel is working. What a great guy! Carmen, Maria and Greg are very kind and brighten up my day whenever I do get a chance to see them. It says we have a 24/7 doorman, we in fact, do not. I have a friend that lives in a Related building in New York and every-time I visit, I get jealous of how effortless her building is ran. New York should give this building some tips! There is a man in maintenance named Johnny and I will not allow him to step foot into my apartment. He has the worst attitude ever! Also, there are A LOT of dogs in this building. They are very cute to look at but they never stop barking. The amenity floor is OK. The pool is packed everyday in the summer which is fine with me, but you can tell others get a little annoyed. My tip is to avoid this building.....Staff gossips non-stop, too many dogs, and you pay too much money to have horrible management! read more

----Editing this review from 3 stars to 5 One of newest 500 North Lake Shore Drive representative was made aware of our parking incident. This individual has bent over backwards to resolve this matter and has given us alternative choices that we were uninformed initially regarding the parking spaces. There are 10 floors to the parking structure and the top three floors are well secured / gated (& wire fenced) private residence only monthly paid parking. The transponder is scanned twice from the first entrance, as well as when you get to level 8 for the garage door to open. And it is scanned again twice on your way out. We were aware of the 'preferred parking' in floors 1-7; spaces by the elevators, however not assigned. We couldn't really park there, since our Blue Link signal is weakened in those areas (for winter auto start). So, we were originally parking anywhere where there's a spot available (usually on level 4, across the elevator, and closest to the glass wall). So, the top three floors pretty much have assigned (numbered) 'reserve parking' which are similar spaces as the 'preferred parking' on the lower floors. And open parking / unassigned for anybody allowed to park there. Oh! And the key fob is required for the elevator to be able to access floors 8-10. My boyfriend, and I specially, feels much safer for our vehicle, as well as for myself walking to my car at around 5am when I leave for work. He use to walk me in the morning. The parking lot already gets busy before 6am from the construction crew in the area. Besides the top three floors, the elevators, as well as the main lobby have security cameras. Also, for future reference. In the first floor of the parking garage are parking for future residents, available zip cars, as well as hybrid specific spaces. Soooooo, finally! We feel like we've found our perfect apartment in Streeterville! :D read more

I have lived in two different convertible studios in this building, one facing south and one facing north and they have both been great, with gorgeous views of the city skyline and views of the lake when looking north. The apartments have floor-to-ceiling windows which mean you never have to have the lights on during the day. The amenities in the building are exceptionally good: the gym is incredibly well resourced and has the best views in the city, the pool deck is magnificent, and there are various other TV rooms, games areas, etc. The staff and management are mostly excellent - the door staff are friendly and helpful, the engineers get things fixed quickly, and they keep the place tidy and well-run. The assistant manager, Kris, should be avoided, she is not helpful and seems not really up to the job, but the manager, Natalie, makes up for her - she is friendly and helpful and thinks outside the box in terms of fixing problems. There are some small things with the fixtures that could be better, where the developer went cheap - the kitchen counters mark easily, the windows only open a couple of inches, the air-conditioners are noisy, etc. But the building itself is beautiful and the apartments are well-designed. The location and the pool deck alone makes living here a dream. read more

I am finally writing a LONG over due review. I lived in this building for two years and moved out last January to try something new, which I will forever regret. I would give this building a 5 star, but I did have some issues with management that I will explain. As for the good stuff: STAFF The staff in this building is incredible. It truly is like living in a 5-star hotel. I've lived in two Related Management buildings before and felt this way at the other locations (in NYC) as well. Related does a really great job of hiring staff. I definitely took this for granted while spending the last several years living in Related staffed buildings. Everyone from maintenance, housekeeping, the leasing office and concierge is very professional, while also friendly, personable and extremely good at their jobs. After living there for a few days the concierge and doormen all new my name and unit number. After living there for a year most of the staff felt like family. This truly is the best team of staff I have ever had taking care of me. SECURITY The security in this building is impeccable. As a young, single girl living there alone I always felt safe. They have a high tech security system including smart elevators that are programmed only by fob access. If you do not live in the building, you are not getting in without checking in at the desk. If for some reason you happen to slip through the door undetected, you still will not have access to the elevators without a fob which forces you to have to turn around and check in with the doormen in order to have access up. SOUND/NOISE This building is sound proofed. I have seen a few reviews that complain of noise, but to be honest I never heard a sound in my unit coming from the hallway or neighboring units, and most people I've spoke to who live in the building or have previously lived in the building always comment on how sound proofed it is. On occasion I would hear a faint dog barking, but it was never as loud as other buildings I had lived in. My neighbor also really liked to blast music and his bass... I did hear it in the hallways when I passed his door, but I never heard it through the walls once inside my unit. AMENTITIES The amenities are top of the line. The gym is the best gym I have ever had in a rental building. The equipment is always up to date (it's partnered with Equinox), it is HUGE for a rental building and the views of the lake are gorgeous. The pool and pool deck are really nice and the cabana spaces are really well done. Each cabana has its own grill and seating area, which I took advantage of A LOT. The views are beautiful and housekeeping keeps it very clean. Security monitors the pool deck so that it doesn't get too busy or noisy, something I really appreciated. Pool decks at luxury apartment buildings should not be a college party, and the staff at 500 does a good job of ensuring that it isn't. The first summer I lived there it was a problem, and I know a lot of residents complained. The next summer they hired extra security for the pool deck and installed some new rules, which made living there in the summer so much more enjoyable. PETS This is an extremely pet friendly building. If you don't like dogs, then do not live here. The dog run is really nice and is pretty large. It is enclosed, so you can take your dog off the leash. They clean it and power spray it every day. They had just renovated the grass before I moved out and it never had that gross dog run smell. In the winter they did a really good job of keeping it shoveled. PLUS: they use non chemical/dog friendly salt and cleaning supplies in the building! PARKING Parking is kind of a pain in the building. The garage is shared with the public and you can't reserve spots, so your competing for good parking with people who don't live in the building. On the weekends it's especially annoying because the garage gets really full with Navy Pier tourists and sometimes it takes a while to find a spot. They do have private resident parking, but its on the top floors which takes extra time to get in and out of, but if you're like me and care about security and safety then its worth the time and the extra $100 per month. SO WHY 4 STARS INSTEAD OF 5? MANAGEMENT This building has had a lot of turnover in management, which says something, and I had some issues of my own with them while living here. I'm not sure if the situation has improved since I moved out, but I hope it has. For being a Related building I'm shocked that they don't have better customer service and better relationships with their residents. I had a few incidents with the manager and assistant manager (two things that they were extremely in the wrong about). They did apologize and the manager even sent me a nice bottle of wine to say sorry, but I never really got over the way I was treated and it was ultimately the reason I moved out after two years. My wife and I have been renting for 8 years and this is THE BEST experience we ever had. It all starts with the staff. I'm pretty sure they hire based on personality because every single person who works there are the most hospitable, positive, and caring people. This is our home so to have these employees there is truly amazing. From the maintenance workers, janitorial staff, the concierge, to the management staff, my wife and I love them all. We had one issue with a rent payment, it was solved immediately with nothing but positivity. They all remember your name and treat you like family. I don't know if you can beat the location, right on the lake. There is no bad view from this apartment whether north, south, east, or west. Just unbelievable! Sad to leave this wonderful building. It was a fabulous experience living at 500 LSD. The building is gorgeous. Always a pleasure to come home and enter the wonderful lobby. The staff is incredible - friendly, professional, courteous, helpful - they seem to know everybody. Building maintenance and cleanliness is top notch. Even the cleaning staff seem to know everybody! If you are a dog owner (or lover), it doesn't get any better. The building is so accommodating to pets and the area surrounding the building has wonderful paths for walking. The building was constantly innovating to make the living experience even better. I lived in another Streeterville apartment for a few years before coming here and it was night and day. One of the best places to live in Chicago! I lived here for three years, moved out this past September (due to a job change), and am missing it dearly. Here are the things I loved: - The quality of the apartments: This place was built as if it were condos - high-grade finishings, top brand appliances, lots of storage - basically everything I would choose myself if I were doing a custom unit - The kitchen in my unit was giant and the oven had a bread proof setting... I never knew I needed a bread proof setting until I lived here - 3 years and never had one maintenance request (everything worked great!) - Great sound insulation - neighbors had two barking dogs and never heard them unless I was standing close to my door - The service staff throughout the building were phenominal, and quite frankly, it took moving into a place with inferior service to truly appreciate them - there is always someone at the front desk 24/7, usually two people - staff is constantly cycling the building cleaning anything and everything (I swear they deep clean the grills a couple times a day) - shout out to Will who will do anything to make you happy and smile even when you're throwing him sass - So many nice perks like they'll deliver your dry cleaning or packages straight to your apartment - Location is unbeatable (right off the lake front trail if you like to bike) - Amenities like pool and gym are top of the line - I agree with some of the other reviews regarding the management office - I had mixed experiences with them my first few years, but they were noticably better my last year (and very accommodating when I was waiting on a job offer and had to keep delaying notifying them whether I was renewing my lease) Here are the things I didn't love: - Like other reviewers mention, the pool area can turn into a frat party on weekends - The ellipticals in the gym had some kind of resistance issue on and off the entire time I lived there and could never seem to get that fixed, with multiple requests - Construction on the west side of the building was very noisy during my last 6 months there... but at least it was during business hours Tip: - Ask them for a copy of the pool/amentities agreement before signing your lease. At least while I lived there, they had some crazy lines in the agreement (e.g., manager can take away your access at their sole discretion, manager reserves the right to start charging a membership fee with 30 days notice) - basically I just crossed out those lines before signing and they were fine with it read more

Knowing what I know now, I would never have moved into this building. I have lived in a one block radius for 30 years. It is overrun with dogs. I listen to dogs bark virtually every hour of every day. There have been dog feces in the entryway and urine in the elevators. Rules about dogs in the lease agreement are never adhered to or enforced. Other sources of noise include traffic from LSD, abundant construction in the neighborhood and unnecessary noise within the building. Specifically, unit doors are designed to SLAM shut. The noise is extremely loud and very stressful. Other problems I have had to deal with: water pipes have burst forcing me to vacate the apartment for a few days with no compensation, railings on the deck have had to be replaced due to safety concerns, the porte-cochere replaced due to poor construction, etc.. I would also note that the crowds at Navy Pier park in this building, so when friends come to visit they're shut out of the parking. read more

My fiancé and I have lived in the building for a year now and just signed our second lease. We absolutely love the modern building and high end amenities, but what really makes the experience worth the cost is the staff. This is the only building in Chicago that has "standing staff" and it makes the biggest difference. The staff is attentive, knows most residents by name, and makes the extra effort to make your life easy. We have lived in 4 other high end apartment buildings and I can honestly say 500 LSD tops them all! In the summer the pool deck is managed perfectly with a balance of security and friendly staff, making it enjoyable. read more

500 LSD is the absolute best apartment building in the city. The amenities are top notch and the location can't be beat. We never heard our neighbors ever, nor did we ever have any major issues. My girlfriend and I lived there for 15 months with our dog (very high energy) so the close location to Olive Park was ideal. The door staff and maintance are really what make the place great. We have since moved out of state to an AMLI residence (due to work) and it just isn't the same. The entire staff all take the time to get to know you and welcome you and your guests ready to help you with anything you might need. We didn't get to say goodbye to Gerard before we left town, so he called us when we were on the road wishing us luck and to stay in touch. After 15 months of living there, they feel like family. That door staff and maintance crew deserve the world. Rent can be a bit pricey, but it all depends how you value your time. You don't waste time commuting to work or to the gym. I worked in west loop and it was a 10 minute express bus ride. Plus, you get a great firework show from the pool deck in the summer time. If you're on the fence about signing here, do it! Love everything except there's no private yoga studio & only a very limited number of one bedrooms with glass walk-in showers.... I chose the amazing view of the lake & city over the glass shower in the end. However, I may contract out if I can find someone who knows how to uninstall a bath tub and install a glass door, stand-up shower at a reasonable price. They said I could do that... it's just more $$$$ that I don't have!!! Lol, aww well, I'll learn to love candle lit baths & make it artsy... waking up to the view of what I call 'the ocean' is what ultimately won my heart over. I love serene, calm atmospheres. If you know anyone that could help me install the shower & get the tub out please point in me in their direction! So far I'm having trouble finding companies that do this. This June marked my 5-year anniversary living at 500 N Lake Shore drive and it is really hard to summarize what an amazing experience it has been. There are so many great things about the building from the views, units, amenities, lakefront and the list can go on but what truly separates it from other places and what has kept me there this long....is this people. The staff Is amazing from the people at the door, the porters, maintenance staff and management...they go above and beyond to provide the best possible experience for their residents. They pay attention to every little detail especially on the amenity floor to ensure that "Luxury Living" it way more than just a tagline used on building brochures. Over the years, I have looked at every new building in the area and I always came back to 500 N Lake shore drive because of the views, the people and they truly created an experience that can be defined as luxury. The units themselves are gorgeous and provide plenty of space but for me it was all about waking up every morning to sweeping views of the lake and city. It may cost a little more but being on a high floor with a view of the water will create an experience you will never forget. I probably have over 1000 pictures over the years of stunning sunrises/sunsets/lake phots that look like something out of a magazine. The 12th floor amenity space speaks for itself...do a tour and you will once again see the true definition of luxury living. Top notch grills, private space to host events, an amazing pool and hot tub that allows you to have a front row view of the fireworks twice a week in the summer. I used the pool deck/event space more than anyone and it is another reason why I have loved the building so much. Because of the relationship with Equinox, the gym is amazing and has plenty of space for a great workout.....also remind yourself that you can roll out of bed and be on the lakefront and Riverwalk. The neighborhood is great and has become more resident friendly with the additions or target and whole foods the last few years. The building has also done a lot the last few years to bring even more services to the building from meal delivery to car washes. If you are looking for the true definition of luxury living, this is the place for you and keep in mind that one of the best parts of the building are the people/staff. Very few times in life do high expectations get exceeded and this is one of them. I am so grateful for the staff and the experience they have provided me the last 5 years. read more
