This joint is right next to Majek Vineyard's and they're just as equally nice and friendly. Why are people so lovely out in Moravia? This joint is legit Italian and is run by an Italiano transplant who actually lives in Katy but comes in every weekend to run the vineyard. What's interesting about this place is that you can taste all the wines FOR FREE--and they are liberal with their pours. My friend and I chose a cozy sofa setup and settled in for the tastings. The owners even give you a little small plate of nuts and cheese for your tasting. I mean! While we didn't love any of their reds, the blanc du bois was perfectly refreshing and balanced. I liked it so much I even bought a bottle. The setup is not as cute as Majek but the customer service is just as good! read more

Lunch was amazing (tuna salad, charcuterie board, hummus) and we didn't leave empty handed. 6 cases later and a number of specialty spices, oils and jelly - we are set for quite awhile! The sweetest place! I hosted a bridal shower here, and the owner is so kind, easy to work with, and easy to text/communicate with. She provided the wine, food, water, charcuterie all on gorgeous serving dishes. We had our own room with beautiful windows, a view, and a bar. Such a great variety of delicious wines. We decided to stop here on a leisurely trip and were very pleasantly surprised by the wine and service. Our server was very knowledgeable about the wines and the wine making process, listened to our likes and dislikes, and recommended wines that we truly enjoyed! Our favorites were Cardinal's Crown, La Jefa and Opal, though Cardinal's Crown was our overall favorite. The best thing about the wines is that even though they may be sweet wines, the sugar content is very controlled so that the wine is appealing. All my LGBT friends, family, and supporters of the LGBT community. I don't ever post things like this but I wanted to bring it up. My wife and I went on a wine tour last year for our anniversary and one place that we loved the one at is called Majek Winery, not far outside Houston. We had sense gone back twice to pick our wine up, and both times that we went the atmosphere complete changed when we walked in holding hands. I ended up canceling our membership, and actually wrote an email why we canceled. At NO POINT did they ever apologize for the way that we were treated, and just took our cancellation. When they finally called after a month of requesting to cancel, I spoke with the owner, who gave me a run around about the wine, canceled the membership, and again at no point addressed the e-mail I sent. We are huge wine loves and it is a shame that we canceled, however I feel like I should make those aware who love wine as much as we do; and to be aware of this place if you are going on a weekend wine tour. The hardest part about this is, if you want to discriminate by all means that is your prerogative, however have the decency to be up front about it rather than making others feel beyond unwelcome. read more

Majek is my preferred winery in the area, not only for the wine but for the kind people who run it, and for the adorable space and ambience it has. For me, their wine is the closest in quality to some of my favorites from South America. Go Texas! They have a nice selection of sweet, bubbly, and dry whites, as well as sweet and dry reds. My favorites are the bold, dry reds, Black Spanish and Cardinal's Choice. What a JOY of a place to find on our way back from hurricane volunteer work in Victoria! We learned a great history about the Czech's that live in the area, their family wine recipes, and the land and grapes surrounding us. We did two tastings, trying a total of their 8 wines, and we were wildly impressed. They are right next to another winery, so if you're looking for a good stop on your Texas wine tour, they are worth the miles! We appreciated the nod to Texas with the barn like tasting room, and the friendly games under the trees outside. We also appreciated the kindness of the owners (many other wineries do a HARD SELL on their wine clubs, and Majek's did not, which was a blessing and made it much more relaxing). We've done the winery tour In Fredericksburg but none compare with the hospitality we received at Moravia Vineyard & Winery. Earlier this year my husband and I treated my parents to a weekend getaway in the Schulenburg area. We, quite by accident, ended up at this wonderful little winery and I must say we were won over by the graciousness and hospitality we experienced there. The wines are excellent, and the owner leads you in tasting each wine offered. He even found a wine my mom liked (hard to do). We all bought some bottles to take home. Go! Our day on the Texas Independence Wine Trail ended at Majek and we were not disappointed. The tasting room is nicely decorated, a little eclectic, but comfortable and warm. Tastings are served in European style glasses versus stemware, making for a different style of tasting, which we thoroughly enjoyed. My husband and I hosted a wedding party at the Moravia Winery & had a fantastic experience! Luca (the owner) graciously let us come by multiple times before the event to walk around the winery and plan. The day of, he let us move around the seating (which he provided tables and chairs) and helped setup the food buffet. He even purchased beautiful flowers for center pieces. His staff helped serve wine and assist with guest needs. The venue and weather was perfect. We stayed as long as we needed to until the last guest left and we cleaned up. The inside of the tasting room is perfect for a mid-sized Party with plenty of room to sit or mingle. The additional rooms were great to spread out the dessert or to store the additional coolers we used to move the food. The vineyard was beautiful for pictures! It is quite in that area, so guests could enjoy sitting outside. I can not recommend enough if you want the perfect, south Texas venue - use Moravia Winery & Vineyard!! read more

Located out along the countryside of Schulenburg and Moravia, this winery is a good place to kick back and enjoy some wine, friends, and music, plus art. This friendly establishment by Randy and Lynne Majek started out with vines planted in 2013. Lynne is a graduate of the Texas Tech Viticulture certificate program (2013) and has applied her new found expertise to the Texas grape growing industry. This family land had once grown many different types of crops in the past and now Randy and Lynne are embarking on growing grapes on this rich fertile soil. They have about 1.5 acres of Blanc du Bois and Black Spanish vines planted on the estate and hope to have their estate wines made from the 2015 harvest in the coming months. Randy is getting his expert training thru Tech's enology certification program, as well. They opened their tasting room in March of 2014. The folks at Texas Custom Wine Works have helped them out with their initial releases of Texas wines. Currently, the Majek's have nine wines to sniff and sip from along with their own unique large shot-like wine glass, which also look reminiscent of juice glasses. There is both a dry and semi-sweet Blanc du Bois that are both quite nice, but the special treat is the Sparkling Blanc du Bois. It is a nice sparkling that's dry and quite refreshing. Dry red wine lovers will be pleased with the Black Spanish (Lenoir) wine. It has all that expected tastes and flavors of a good dry red wine. Their port-style Lenoir can pack quite a punch in both flavor and aroma. Sip this one lightly. The Cardinal's Kiss is something you may not expect but don't miss it as you will love it. It's a mix of Riesling and Black Spanish that has turned out to be a delightfully sweet and unique combo. There is also a Tempranillo (dry & sweet) on the list, a sweet Orange Muscat and a dry rose (Cardinal's Perch - Merlot/Tempranillo/Black Spanish blend) to try, as well. While you're enjoying the tasting room and your sipping, do take the time to check out the paintings on the walls from local artists. You'll enjoy the country friendly atmosphere and the views of this place from the tasting room that has a wall of large open windows that give just the right light and scenic backdrop.
